  Had a very early dinner and the place was all ours 😁 The food was really tasty - I particularly enjoyed the octopus with steamed veggies, as well as the shrimp. We also had some sangria which was refreshing. Service was pretty decent. I would recommend this place for some delicious seafood.   Arrived at the restaurant for early dinner slightly before 6pm, the restaurant was empty. The staff was friendly and helpful with the menu. My first time trying Portuguese Cataplana dish, it taste pretty good. A single portion of Cataplana was quite a lot for me to finish. I wanted to have fried calamari for starters and the staff offered the fried calamari without the sides of chips for €5 instead of €8. Overall excellent experience with a local taste.   If you're in the centre of Albufeira and are looking for a typical Portuguese restaurant, Veleiro is the place. (we were just strolling towards the top of the street and, when we passed the restaurant, we had a double take when we saw the food that was being served to one of the tables - so we had to go back the next day to try it!) This is a very small, simple restaurant owned by a Portuguese family and serves typical food from Portugal. The 'bacalhau' (salt cod) in Portugal is rarely seen in the UK but is a staple ingredient in many traditional Algarvean dishes. You must try Veleiro's 'Bacalhau à Brás' and the 'Bacalhau à Lagareiro' (in the photo below). The food can take long to be served as it's mainly cooked from scratch but well-worth the wait (there are also great starters while you wait plus a very decent house wine. In short, don't expect a 'posh', glossy and polished restaurant but, instead, expect the best typical Portuguese food that the Portuguese would eat themselves, served with a big smile and a lot of care.   A little restaurant in Old Town Albufeira with mostly terrace seating. I admit I was dining on a solo traveller’s budget so my experience might be a bit skewed from the other reviews. I ordered some fish fillets, which were cooked tastily but it was quite a wait. The service was friendly enough but not very welcoming when I sat down. I liked the soft boiled potatoes, but didn’t get to finish them as flies started attacking my dish (open air seating in Portugal, it’s hard to escape them). Only 10 euros for the dish.   Delicious traditional Portuguese food. Lots of options to choose from and reasonably priced. I ordered the Bife à Portuguesa. The portion was huge, the beef was cooked to perfection (medium rare), the sauce was a well seasoned creamy sauce and the potatoes were fresh. My partner ordered the mixed grill and all the meats were seasoned to perfection. Very delicious, came with a side of fresh chips and salad.   Went in with no pre conceived notions about the staff, just heard good things about the food. I don’t write reviews unless they are very good or very bad. The staff here was downright rude. Regardless of the language barrier, the young guy did not talk to us, just took our order, and the older lady was even worse. We were given our food and they retreated to do other stuff. Never asked how we were doing or if we wanted anything else. We were waiting for our check and it wasn’t coming so we went up to the register. She didn’t say anything and handed us our bill. She then made a shooshing motion with her hands for us to leave. Long story short, the dessert was fine, very rude staff.   Amazing Portuguese dishes at a local restaurant! Total worth of money! We went there for two nights! Friday and Sunday. We went there just before 8pm, just a bit of waiting. There was a queue after 8pm due to a high perk. We had grilled sardine and seabass as our main. On the 2nd night we had octopus and grilled goldbream. Had a pudim for sharing at both nights. Not to mention that the boiled potato and vegetables which came with the dishes were also nice. As it was busy with a small friendly service team, 3 kitchen team members at the small kitchen for a high peak, sometimes needed to wait patiently, then the servers came back as soon as they could. Mainly we paid for fantastic food with friendly service, without really breaking out banks 🤩 Will go back to try another dishes next time!   Unfortunately yesterday, we weren't satisfied at all with the services and food. No friendliness and mindfulness at the services. The starter didn't came after 20 minutes, only after asking where the bread, olives and sardine patê were. Just in that moment the dishes and the starter like bread and sardine patê came, not the olives. But we didn't complain. The plates for the starters weren't put on the table smoothly, so that we have had a very unpleasant experience. The small salmon filet was heavily burned on the backside, it is dry and lacks salt. This dish came with some little vegetable which has absolutely no salt and 2 small potatoes, cutting in halve. Bread is from the starter. On the other dishes, the steak has an extreme sour sauce and is over salted. The vegetarian spaghetti is ok, but so salt. The Haku Filet came directly from the freezer and wasn't heated as disired. The neighboring tables were complaining to the waitress as well, while their fish were too dry... The waitress offered them some calamari as a recompensation, but they refuse as they have already.   AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! The food is gorgeous, full of flavour and super fresh. The restaurant is a little bit away from the very touristy area, which I was happy as it made it quite calm. The food is very traditional and they have all those amazing Portuguese dishes that you have to try. We had the cataplana for 2. which was ridiculously GOOD and very well served. The service is also very good, they are not pushy at all and give you all the space you need. The price is reasonable and it is in line with the price around the country (Not under or over priced). They seat you elbow to elbow, precisely 20 cm between tables, money must be more important for them than their customers.   We were staying in o veleiro apartment in August last year. And it’s fabulously done up. The only drawback is the entrance is through the cafe seating on the road and it’s just a flight of stairs up. The living dining and a restroom on the first floor and two bedrooms with a separate rest room on the second. The bedrooms have a balcony overlooking the cute town andtrust me but albufeira isn’t a town one should miss. One of the best towns in the algarve.   Food was very tasty, I have to admit it. But the service was one of the worst ever. One lady who was serving us looked like she wanted us to leave as soon as possible, not a single smile. We ordered salads to our mains and they forgot them. Also there was on older lady walking around and just taking away stuff from the tables when people didn’t even finish yet... She took our bread away, which we ordered to the fish. She also took someone else’s ketchup and they had to ask for it again. Terribile service.   Rented apartment just 3 min walk from this restaurant so it was first on the way to old town - nut it couldn't be better. Great food, lots of choices on menu, friendly service. They make in house PiriPiri sauce - use with caution - it is flamethrower grade. Highly recommend. The staff are always very friendly and they have Sagres beer on draught. It can be busy at lunchtime as well as evening, depending on time of year and a lot of locals eat here. Today I was craving Sunday lunch , my fav place has shut for refurbished so had lamb stew with fresh veg , hubby had chicken curry , half bottle of wine , magners and apple pie with ice cream and cream 30 euros .
