  Great place to get fresh fish and seafood! The food was delicious and it was a great way to experience traditional Portuguese food while in Albufeira. The food was so fresh and yummy!!! The restaurant is located high above the beach for an awesome view and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. The service was good and we had a lovely time.   Nice location away from the busy bars however be careful when ordering there are no menus and prices we paid £16 euro for two bowls of chips, our mussels where £80 and where just in a watery sauce & Shrimp was £60 . These were classed as starters. Tasted nice but wasn't worth the money.   A Ruina is a picture perfect seafood restaurant on Fisherman's Beach in Albufeira 🐠 We visited as a special treat for my partner's birthday. The restaurant setting is absolutely stunning with views of the sea and Old Town. At first we were a little unsure because there are no menus and you must order off a blackboard, but once we saw the array of fresh fish we understood that you get to pick from the very best of produce. My partner loves seafood, he had lobster to start and fresh cod as his main, both he said were the best and freshest he'd ever had. I had mozzarella, tomato salad and fillet mignon. Both absolutely bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection 🌟 We shared a homemade Banoffi dessert that was to die for 😋 Our waiter was an absolute gentleman, so polite and friendly and he made our dining experience even more enjoyable.   We were a group of 4 who had a late lunch this afternoon. We were served politely, and looked after despite being the last group in the restaurant. The food was nicely cooked and well presented. 2 had pargo which was served with veg and potatoes and a perfect lunch. The other 2 has spaghetti a la Mar and the other a burger.   Overpriced for what you get. TikTok lies about the view you get. There is a small chance you see the view of what you see online. There isn’t a menu and you are expected to go to the counter to order which makes you feel very overwhelmed to order quickly. There are no prices explained or portion sizes, which we sadly wasted a lot of food due to this! We ended up spending €53 on shrimps for two people to which we could only stomach half. One portion would have been more than enough for 2 of us. My advice would be to be cautious.   Would not go back, the 2 stars was because the sea bass was cooked well and tasted nice (although only served with 1 1/2 tiny potatoes and some basically raw carrots and broccoli) but it was well overpriced. The old guy at the fish counter is vague and borderline rude, everything is sold by the KG but he will not give you a rough idea as to how much things cost just shrugging his shoulders if you ask. We actually saw some people walk out after speaking with him. I would not recommend it, and there is plenty of choice of restaurants in the area if you want fish.   Really lovely restaurant with astonishing sea views. Staff when we were there were quite nice contrary to other reviews I've read. Their ordering system felt like a little bit of a trap though. Order the wine, then get led over to the board to order there and then. Not much time to consider options or price. And in terms of price, please be prepared to spend a lot of money if you go for this place. You are spending a premium that I personally think is not that worth it. We ate in other places in Albufeira with a similarly pleasant atmosphere but ate at least twice as much food for three quarters of the price. I'm a fan of fresh catch eating and this is wonderful seafood I can't lie, but for me not worth the money.   Don't go there. Started nice , we had a table as soon as we arrived. Then it went downhill. They didn’t give us a menu, sent us upstairs to choose our fish. No price ever mentioned . Still ok as I speak Portuguese and could read the menu in the blackboard behind the counter . We chose squid salad as a starter but to our surprise they serve them without cleaning all the inner bits which surprised me . I even asked the waiter if they eat the insides in Portugal but he confirmed to me that obviously not as that had to be cleaned. So why they serve like that is out of my mind. That is pretty much the fish poo. The bread that came as couvert wasn’t fresh, my husband had dover sole and it was tasteless with its boiled vegetables. I had clams that were ok, if you don't expect anything about the sauce which was very watery and no taste. My opinion is , over priced meal that is not worth at all. Even if it was half the price I would not go back . Save your time , the terrace is cute but it’s dated, the music is old fashioned. It was a disappointment, they stopped in time. They try to upsell you where they can -i.e. everyone needs their own starters and mains, and the concept of sharing a plate wasn’t the norm there.   The only positive was the lovely location. There is a menu on display on the wall behind the fresh fish counter. However, no menus is offered at your table. You are invited to go to the fish counter to choose your fish. No other menu options were offered. The fish we chose was nice, and it came with boiled potatoes or chips and vegetables at around £40 per person for the main course. We left feeling disappointed with the quality of the chosen dish for the premium price we paid. I don't normally provide negative reviews and normally choose not to return. One of the fish we had was extremely delicious but it was recommended for 2 people, cost 140 euro, and was served with a small side of bland vegetables and a couple potatoes... ordering a fish dish, fully prepared with sauces, etc, at a nice restaurant is often less. I appreciate the idea but it's not worth it if you aren't all in on fish alone. Our large group left hungry but spent 2x more on this meal than any other we'd had in the region.   Absolutely fantastic setting and food, the sardines and red snapper were the best I’ve ever had. The restaurant, service, food and wine gets a 5. BUT along with the fantastic setting comes the density of tables on the balconies, along with smoking. A couple behind us smoked alway through, and then both had a cigar !!!!. I understand it’s allowed etc but should there be no smoking areas !!   A fairly nice spot selling pretty decent fish. There is an extensive menu of seafood and fish that you pick out at the counter including crab, lobster and octopus. The location is great, with beautiful views of the sea. Its a fairly standard local seaside fish place. Really enjoyed the meal but was comparing it a bit to the fish I'd eaten at a restaurant the night before, which my friend and I agreed was a bit better cooked and seasoned.   I have to say, this was far the best spot for having dinner. Not only the location with the amazing sea view also the quality of the food and the service was just amazing. I'm vegetarian and even though they didn't have a big choice for vegetarian food I was served with an amazing plate of pasta with mushroom sauce, which tasted extraordinarily good. And our waiter, Jose Cartas, just gave us the greatest experience ever, we never had to ask for anything, he just knew when to fill our glass and when to ask if we want something.   I have good points and bad points about this highly rated fish and meat, seaview restaurant. To begin, confusing entry to the premises. We had to manually call over a waiting staff to assist us with finding a table. When we where led upstairs, we unfortunately received a dirty look from one of the assistants while being seated. We did have a lovely view over the sea and our waiter for the night was very friendly. We had squid ordered for starters. The squid was nice and fresh and the vegetables that came with it were clean and pure. For the starter I ordered a fillet steak with peppercorn sauce medium rare. The steak was underwhelming, however the broccoli was delicious. I tried some of the sea bass my friend had and it was delicious. I regret not ordering that to be honest. In conclusion, the food was good but not great and other then entering the building, the night went smooth and we had a good meal.   Overpriced mediocre food. You pay for the view. No menu, fish is priced per kg which is pointless as you have no idea how much you get. You can start your bill off with €10 for bread and water which you get no say if you want it or not. €12 for a couple of slices of tomato with mozzarella cheese and black pepper which you could make for less than €1. Fish cakes were OK but again €13, overpriced. €25 for a salmon filet with 3 baby potato halves. No host to seat customers, I actually asked another customer (also walking around lost) if he worked there, his reply "no, apparently nobody does". Uncomfortable atmosphere from the start. Do not go here, so many other beautiful restaurants in both old and new town. Have not had one bad meal anywhere else in our stay, but avoid this rip off.   Nice place but for Portugal this place is expensive! The seafood is excellent but anyplace that has a menu that charges per kg for seafood is a ripoff and they didn’t disappoint.   Me and my children wanted to visit this restaurant all week, we'd seen it from the beach. Finally found it, children were so excited. First of all we waited at the door for 10 minutes, no one came to greet us.   We spent a lovely evening at La Ruina and ate very well; it has no fixed menu, meaning that you choose a type of fish or meat and it’s cooked to order with the accompanying vegetables of the day, a new concept for us but nonetheless very well done and delicious.   I had visited The Ruin whilst I was in Portugual for a lovely dinner. The food and service was immaculate. The fish are caught fresh everyday and you've got the choice between a variety of different fishes to choose from which is grilled, seasoned and cooked whilst you wait dinning with some bread, hummus and olives. The service these guys had provided were top notch with the chef and wairters reassuring and suggesting which is best for our taste. Couldn't go wrong with this place. Pricing was decent considering it's just off the hill with a beach/coast view. I'd strongly recommend! But the rudeness from one staff member in particular on arrival led me to walking back out the door.   Worst sardines in Portugal. We ordered something that is quite hard to mess up yet what we've got served a plate with very dry and burned small things resembling sardines. There is a fire grill yet we got the sardines 3 minutes after we've ordered them. I'm pretty sure they just microwaved them to worm them up. Shame.   As seafood lover I can say this place nailed it. Clams and mussels absolutely perfect. Nice touch of coriander and all ingredients in balance. I've had these a lot and this was top class. If you like taste of grilled fish, bit of smoke aroma but still prepared so that fish is not dry this is the way they do it here. Absolutely perfect. Place was quite full so reservations recommended.   This is a restaurant specialising in fish dishes only. In doing so they have mastered the art of cooking fish. The fish I had was cooked to perfection. The restaurant lends itself to clientele who love the finer things in life, with the wine selection, ours recommended by the waiter, complimenting the food and bringing out the best in the flavours of the fish!   The €30 house red wine was a blended red which tasted like more like a €5 wine. We started with grilled octopus and baby squid rings. Both of which were chewy, overcooked and lacked flavour. We had a similar experience with our mains. The tuna steak was overcooked to point that it was inedible. The seabass was fresh but lacking in seasoning. Again overcooked. The vegetables were the best part of the meal. We shared chocolate mousse and it was raw and not cooked properly. Total bill came to over €100. Service was fine. Avoid.   Climbed up to the top of the restaurant at night to have a drink and maybe a little food. There was a good amount of seating at the top and the rest of the restaurant was empty. After picking a table we were told we had to walk over to the counter with fish in it and choose food from there - we were never given a menu. When we tried to tell the waiter (who was now waving a raw fish in front of us at the fish counter by the kitchen) that we just wanted a small plate he told us that it wasn’t possible. When we said that’s fine and that we’ll just drink he said that wasn’t possible either and we would have to go to a different restaurant. Never got a menu, never got a drink, and service was impersonal and cold. Even with a nice view of Albufeira, this restaurant has nothing else to offer. The beach portion with is the establishment responsability is very very unsanitary. Literally dog excrement around cover in sand. You will not be able to see on what your children are rolling on.   We came here in search of some fine dining but were very disappointed from beginning to end. First of all, we got told by the waiter, upon ordering drinks, that he was making an exception for us as normally you're not allowed to order those before ordering a main (for fear you might just have drinks and leave). Then, you're also not allowed to get a starter before you order the main. To order the main you have to go upstairs to a board and speak to a fairly unpleasant chef to order fish, that by the way comes with a couple of pieces of broccoli and potatoes, and there's no variety there no matter what fish you order. The food was ok but the whole set up is absolutely silly and not up to par with the high prices. The bread we were served as part of the starter was stale too.   I would say this restaurant was my favourite from a 2 week stay in Albufeira. I went with my parents and my wife and we had a lovely table up on the top floor terrace near the BBQ where all the fish was being cooked. The menu is a little different in that you go to a fresh counter and pick your fish and pay by weight. They also have meat on offer but the emphasis is clearly on fish. The 4 of us had a whole sea bass done on the bbq and served with vegetables- thankfully the waiter also filleted it for us and took that hassle away, but honestly it was a pleasure watching too. The food was gorgeous! Add to that the lovely setting and view over the bay and this place has it all. The deserts seem to come in 2 varieties - mass produced frozen items and then the home made items. I went for the home made Tiramisu which was simply stunning. Everyone else had home made desserts and thoroughly enjoyed them. The staff were lovely and made sure we had an excellent time.   Really nice location but disappointing food. They made a big one of saying the fish would be without bones but was full of them. Got 2 small potatoes and some boring veg with it.   Four of us shared a golden sea bream. the price here was 60 euros per kilo whereas the night before we were paying 49 for better prepared and service. we even had to ask for lemon! My feeling is the restaurant lives by its location rather than service and quality of cooking!
