  Hard to place an order. I had crab-mango-salat, very little crab nearly tasteless and hard to define,lots of mango and avocado the sauce beside. The African rice was very good.   The first thing is this place was open where almost all the others on the beach are closed so we'll done guys for staying open on the 12th December. I was seated straight away on a bench table overlooking the beach which was perfect on such a sunny day with the sea being rough it was a great view. Made my order the beer came quick followed by the food so good service plus the guy who served me was very friendly and polite. The food was not the cheapest but it was good and like I say the place was open were others were closed so can't complain I would have no hesitation in coming back. It was not properly filleted, very poor quality, and €28.50, terribly overpriced. The staff are lovely and attentive, especially Lily, who I met on my first visit.   Some of the beach restaurants in this area are sometimes trying to be posh and a bit snob. Never happens at Julia’s. Always friendly and even if crowded they have a smile to offer . Beachside for relaxed eating and a more formal at tirar level. Sundays can vibe at times with music and full dance floor .   Good value (not cheap - but not overpriced for what you get) great fun and fabulous views. We came for dinner. There was a singer and the guests were encouraged to join an and even have a dance. Our table was at 9:00pm and I would advise booking a bit earlier tan that. Many of the other diners were already well oiled and it was a nit too loud for us to have dinner and talk. Once you are in the swing of it though… its huge fun. The food was very good too. I had the dressed crab, which was absolutely enormous and very tasty.   We hosted our post-wedding lunch at Julias on 03.09.23 and it was incredible! The staff were all incredible and service ran so smoothly. The food and drinks were flowing and all delicious! The band were great and everyone was dancing. It was just the most beautiful setting made even more enjoyable by how amazing and friendly Julia's team have been and thank you SO much for giving us and our wedding guests the most beautiful experience.   Been going here, on and off, for over 25 years so watched the place evolve. Despite growing, it's managed to keep its beach shack feel but make sure to book to get a table by the beach.   Awful service last night....gent with tattoos rude, inattentive and needs to lose the attitude he had. People like that should not be front and centre in customer facing roles. Crab starter was good, chicken main was poor. This place may be great for a beer off the beach but wouldn't recommend eating here, so many better places to choose from locally The fact that your response is as per below says it all !! Take some ownership for your poor service rather than trying to deflect to a perfectly polite paying customer that had a rude waiter, wasn't asked for additional drinks and waited 40 minutes for a main course before asking the waiter who hadn't realised he hadn't sent it through to kitchen. My fault? Loool....you are deluded......I ordered monkfish and 2 chicken main courses. Stop posting rubbish on your responses, I paid my entire bill...although given quality of service and food I should have asked for a discount. Every complaint you have you are abusive towards....and that is why all the other restaurants locally were fully booked and yours was half empty. Next time I pass I'll work a dinner for free so I can show you what good service looks like. Now spend less time on Google and more focusing on improving your business. Many thanks. Had to get drinks at bar, as waiters focused on the outdoor. For some reason they prioritise larger tables outside and despite booking three months ago, we were out inside. NEVER again.   Although the food was delicious we'd been seated over an hour before starters arrived and then another hour before eating mains. Admittedly very busy but still unacceptable. Definitely a place where people want to be seen and a bit posy. Prefer a more Portuguese experience away from such a touristy area.   We were unfortunate to dine here on a night where it was very busy. The food was average and quite expensive. Also a night where dining had turned to partying for some of the groups and a serious fight broke out. It was quite traumatic for some of the guests, particularly those with young children. I hope the owner invests as much time reducing these types of stressful situations as he does providing defensive responses to google reviews.   We visited Portugal and met up with friends who live in the area. We are so grateful the chose Julia's for dinner. We got there early and went down to the deck area where we were greeted (by the owner it turns out) in such a friendly way. The food was all so fresh and delicious, and we got to watch the sunset. Sneak down to the beach for some nice photos. Just good vibes all around. Highly recommend the oysters, shrimp, and the grilled cuttlefish. If you are looking for cheap eats, this isn't the place.   Food is oké but when paying with a card make sure you check the amount they enter. We noticed them twice to enter a higher amount, e.g., Eur 84,90 becomes Eur 89,40. Great for kids and must be one of the best bars just a few steps away from the sea! Our first visit every time we come to The Algarve is a drink sat on the terrace watching the world go by! Absolute gem this place and could not recommend it highly enough. I have never heard a bad word about this place.   Saved this for our last night in Portugal, having had a fantastic weeks holiday playing tennis and eating out in vale do lobo. Julia’s had been recommended to us so we were looking forward to it. Disappointing from the start, if only we had followed our instincts and left on arrival. A most unwelcoming man showed us to a table and made us feel uncomfortable throughout our hour long stay. The cover was okay, the mains were a waste of good quality seafood. According to the waitress and one other staff member it seems there’s a new chef, two weeks in. For a restaurant that says it’s proud of its heritage, starting in the 1970’s, my advice is to eat elsewhere until they replace the chef, and for the lovely staff who seemed to understand the problem to find alternative employment. And if you’re wondering, yes we did pay most of the bill despite being offered a substantial discount, as we didn’t want anyone to be out of pocket despite the poorly prepared food and the unpleasant atmosphere.   A real shame that for our last night in Vale Do Lobo we chose Julia’s on recommendation. Should have trusted our instincts as the place was dead quiet on a Friday night. Male member of staff in hoodie was less attentive and less friendly than Putin and seemed to care less than the American health system. Our fault perhaps that we chose the salad dressing rose, but the main courses were probably the worst I’ve had in 50 years of eating out. The attentive and friendly female staff could see how little was edible and confided that the chef was new. Unprompted they vastly reduced the bill which was appreciated, although only a Time Machine would repair the evening. Lovely sunset! Edit: Wish I’d taken a screenshot of the managers first even ruder reply, it was a classic.   After reading amazing reviews we were so looking forward to a family meal in Julia's. It was incredibly disappointing. After receiving our mains for 2 adults and 1 child, our other child sat without food as we all waited for 20 minutes for hers to arrive with an explanation of "the chef forgot". She finally received her meal with barely an apology. Skip to paying the bill and highlighting some mistakes on the bill (including drinks for the kids at a hIgher price than printed on the kids menu, "well thats the old menu" was the excuse... ok so you gave us the old menu, charge us the old prices for drinks! To be given a revised bill which included an additional charge that did not appear on the original bill for 1 pat of butter. Wow. You make a mistake on the bill and try to make up with it by charging for BUTTER! Sad! I'm sure many people enjoy meals at Julia's but perhaps the staff had a bad day pn the evening we came. AVOID!   I've been to Julia's a few times now over a number of years and I'm really sorry to say that the service is consistently bad, the food is fairly bland nearing poor and the prices are inflated. I've really tried to give it a few chances but unfortunately it's disappointed on too many occasions. Given the choice in the area I would really recommend giving this place a miss.   It's incredible how rude the manager is. There is no facility to reply to the rude replies that the manager has left so am reviewing again. Management accused me of fabricating a review. I did not. This place was below average on food and that is such a shame considering the high price and nice view. Toilets were dirty. This is all true. Staff were generally really nice. But whichever chippy person manages these reviews really does the place no favours. Learn to take criticism buddy! It's part of the trade. I suggest if your customers are unhappy (which at least 20% of the posts are to one extent or other) you take in their comments and try improve. Just abusing every customer online that makes any sort of negative comment makes you look really stupid. Not all your customers can be bad people.   Restaurant has a breath taking view. The location is on a highly frequented beach. Reservation is highly recommended especially in high season. We had mussel as entree and as main course the "cadeira Julia", monkfish and the spaghetti frutti de mare. The food arrived fairly quick. The material is fresh. The taste is, well, to be honest in my opinion quite bland. The spaghetti e.g tastes basically the same as the spaghetti with tomato sauce from the kid menu. It is apparently not cooked in fond, too sweet from the straight tomato sauce without any additional spices or herbs and hence lacks any mentioanble taste, while the noodle is little bit o overdone. With the other food it is more or less the same. A little bit pity for the high class material and somehow not justifying the relatively high price.   Very disappointed, we booked a table here months ago for Sunday 31st July for 12 people because of the entertainment and music as we had family over from the UK, they had given us a table outside on the bench’s ,no were near the music, which we thought had been booked inside. Owner didn’t try to resolve the problem and he didn’t care, we felt that he had given our table away to someone else, which he said he hadn’t. We thought the best solution would be to go away have a drink and then he try to rearrange the seating plan but didn’t suggest this and just said this is only table we have so we felt unhappy and choose not to eat here. We will not be returning and we live in Portugal.   This was the worst meal I have ever had in the Algarve. A pity because Julia's used to be one of my favourite beachsidd restaurants with a good menu. The menu is unchanged but tgexquality of both thexservice and food has gone down alarmingly sunce pre covid. So disappointing to get monkfish king prawn kebab flat on a plate so no kebab theatre and rdceive it cold/ overcooked and fish burned at the edges. Service was surly and delivered by old tired grumpy men. Upon complaint I was offered another king prawn ' properly cooked. I pointed out that it should have been cooked properly in the first place. And was told 'we are working on it' !!!! Unbelievable. Also we were packed inside and surrounded by young families and lots of noisy unruly children - package holidays gone wrong.   What an experience, the food was absolutely fantastic. I don't think we'll need to eat for a few days. We had the chowder for starter followed by the most amazing prawns. The service was a little slow but that is only if I was being picky. It isn't the cheapest, but the quality of the food justified it.   Once our favourite restaurant in the area, sadly on the last few occasions it has been poor. On our last visit, it took 2hrs before we saw the main course. Woefully slow, miserable service, and the food was dry and overcooked. At one point I had to clear our own table to make room for food and leave dishes at the bar, where I was told not to put them down. Clearly understaffed, the hard working waitress was put in a horrible position, all she could do was apologise. I wouldn’t smile if I worked there either. Luckily the band were good though. Julia’s is one of those restaurants that is now resting on the laurels of a fantastic beachfront view and beautiful sunsets, but it doesn’t do enough to offset the bland food, tired menu and understaffed service.   I took my son, daughter in law and grandchildren here as a special treat as they were visiting from England. We booked a table with a sunset view which we didn’t get. The restaurant was busy but only had four servers who were clearly overwhelmed with the number of diners. The service was slow, we arrived at 6 and didn’t get our main till 8. The food was cold. There was no point in complaining as the staff were run off their feet. I have been recommending this restaurant to my clients for years but will not do so from now on. The owners response to previous review shows his lack of respect for his customers and this is reflected in his service.   Great view for sunset but other than that an appalling affair overall. Next to no service, couldn't even wave someone down. Whilst the food was mediocre to downright poor, would definitely not recommend the dressed crab, a very expensive sea food paste in essence.   Still the best restaurant at Praia do Garrao! Julias is an institution, it has been here for more than 30 years and I hope it is here for many more. Was super happy to visit again post Covid and find it still busy and under the same ownership with a lot of the same kind and well trained staff. The piri piri chicken and African rice is amazing as always - my favourite on this coast. Excellent views, great wine and mixed drinks and lovely service. Service is always with a smile and we didn't wait long for service at all on a busy lunch time service. We loved it and we'll be back again! Thanks to the team!   Been coming here for years. Always a great spot to relax by the beach, have a few drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. But the restaurant experience is very different to the bar. The food is OK, although overpriced. But the most frustrating part of the experience is the staff upstairs. Aside from the barman, the waitresses were unwelcoming, rude, and it took 30 minutes during a relatively quiet time of day to order anything. No basic manners and we were made to feel like a hassle more than anything. I’ll always rate it as a place to have a few drinks in the sun, but I won’t eat in the restaurant again.   During our holiday we have visited Julias Beach Bar multiple times with pleasure. The staff is very welcoming, friendly and had eye for detail. Took 40 mins to get seated, despite having a booking for weeks were seated in near the entrance, and then took 3 hours to get food.   So I was going to give it 4*s, but then I read the extraordinarily aggressive responses to other people who aren’t completely positive below and knocked one off for good measure. The view is great, the staff were on the whole easy to deal with, and the food was decent (but not great) for the price. The fact it’s an expensive area is already taken into account in this assessment. One major issue: wasps. They have a significant issue with wasps but instead of doing anything about it they just blame the weather. Bonkers. I’ve eaten out many, many times in the area at this time of year and never come across this issue at this scale anywhere else. Has a major impact on the meal. Genuinely excited for the management response. BRING IT ON SHOUTY-MAN.   Perfect spot right on one of my favourite beaches in the Algarve. The food was served quickly and was delicious. We last ate at Julia's a few years ago before the refurbishment and were not that impressed.....HOWEVER on the drive home today my wife and I stuck Julia's to the top of our favourites list. Kudos to you guys, we're fussy buggers and today we were nothing but impressed. Your waiting staff at the lower beach deck were bang on form and I was particularly impressed with the fish discussion (education) I had and how lovely they were to our 3 year old.   Had high hopes for this restaurant as heard lots of good things about it. Food was good, great choice and my two dishes were great. Sadly totally let down by the service. Slow to take any orders - just one person taking orders for the whole restaurant, food delivery was mixed. Ours arrived in reasonable time, the table next to ours took 90 minutes and that was only after they complained. Trying to get the bill was also a task, in the end we went to the counter without a bill as we'd already waited 20 minutes. Such a shame as it's a great location but it definitely needs a bit of makeover and improvement of service. Cannot compare to similar restaurants in the nearby praca of vale do lobo yet prices are the same.   We had a number of visits to Julia's while staying at Vale do Lobo and it's a wonderful laid back experience compared to many of the resort restaurants. There is also a beach bar and you can take drinks to your rented loungers which is not available at most beach spots. Sunday's can get a bit rowdy in the main restaurant when the rose wine is flowing and the live music starts and everybody starts dancing and singing along to Neil Diamond and the other classics. Highly recommend the sirloin steak.   Great restaurant, great staff, great location. Came here for a week and stayed at the lake resort hotel. Have friends who come here a couple times a year and highly recommended this restaurant. I did not order any sauce for my steak but was instead served small bags of ketchup and mayonnaise. Not what one would expect for 24.50€.   We loved Julia's on our last visit to Portugal. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them, great for kids too and they had a wee playground outside where the staff played with the kids and entertained them. The food is delicious and not overpriced for a beachfront restaurant. Oh to be there now. Hope to see Julia's in the very near future.   I have been coming here for 25 years and it is still the same old place. It is good, I do not deny it, but it is expensive and it is always full of English people! (I am English btw!) The fish is good and the African Rice they do is divine, but I think if you drive 15 mins more you will find a better more realistic beach fish restaurant. But hey, does what it does well. And I do enjoy the live music on a Sunday here. It is easy reach from the beach and a nice place to meet friends for a leisurely meal.   I've been going to the Algarve for 20 years and Julia's is the original and still the best beach bar in the area by far. The staff are always friendly and cannot do enough for you. The restaurant upstairs is great and the beach bar is a fantastic place to sit and enjoy a drink or 2 or 3 or ...! I fear the bad review a few below this is a set up from the neighbouring Izzy's bar as you will see from these reviews and all others on Trip advisor, Julia's is a top, top bar / restaurant. It's a shame that competitors feel the need to do this, but perhaps that says a lot about how good Julia's actually is! If you're in the area, I strongly recommend a visit. Martin and his team will take great care of you as they always do us. We cant wait to get back out there!!
