  What has happened at Restinga? After a lovely day in Alvor, including a stroll along the boardwalks, coffee for 4 seemed the ideal way to finish off the trip. Getting the order wrong was the prelude for 4 of the most awful coffees ever tasted. The waiter seemed completely disinterested. So we paid the €10 and left, no tip.. Resting on their laurels?   Been visiting here since it opened. Today was my last visit. Was seated quickly then a table of 3 had their drinks and food ordered before me. My fresh orange had insects in. It was replaced. The shrimp and mango salad was supposed to be a main. It was starter size. The shrimp was tasty but dry. I sat for an hour with no one asking if my food was OK or if I needed anything else. I tried to ask for the bill when a waiter moved my condiments to another table. I pushed my glass and remains of dressing to the edge of the table in the hope that one of the 5 members on duty might notice me. My side dressing dish was removed swiftly but without a chance to interact. After an hour I managed to get my bill. I've never left a restaurant without either giving a tip or explaining why I didn't tip. I get that by the end of the season everyone is frazzled. But some customers just sat there with one drink and got lots of attention. I will not waste my time or money being treated like that.   Highly highly recommended! The prices seem a bit expensive HOWEVER Portuguese portions are BIG and the quality of the seafood is top, specially clams at this place. The 'Canja de Restinga' showed on the photo is suggested for two in the menu, but we ate 3full dish each out of the pot that they bring to you on the table. CONCLUSION, it's not expensive at all.   I'm a regular customer of Restinga since 2017 and the food and service are always exceeding expectations. The ordered food is rather simple but very tasty - such as grilled fish or squid which comes with a fresh local salad. The entres are also amazing - loved the shrimp with piri piri. The staff is also very kind, experienced, fast and attentive. Even though the prices are a little high, I prefer to pay that extra for the quality and service received in return.   Excellent food and great service. Visited twice in 1 week: had the cataplana which was fantastic and was more than enough for two people; second visit I had the razor clam risotto which was also delicious. Despite not booking a table I was able to get one both nights without a problem. I felt confident in the place as it was often busy with other Portuguese, not just foreign tourists.   Oh my every time we come here it is amazing. The Pica Pau this time was spectacular. Also be sure to try the chilli prawns. They are expensive but totally worth it.   We love this place and were gutted when covid put paid to our yearly visit. It's a slightly schizophrenic restaurant. During the day it's a bustling cafe serving sandwiches, burgers, the usual fair (all done well and you can opt for the swankier menu if you eat 'indoors').   During my latest holiday in Alvor I visited Restinga 3 times , this was quite out of character . Usually I do not chose the same place to eat , no matter how good it was . Well , Restinga has changed this tradition . What was so special about it ? Restaurant is set in the pictures location , in dunes , just off the wide sandy beach , when sitting on the terrace , the view of the turquoise ocean is stunning . Food is delicious , fresh , cooked with care and love up to perfection , only locally sourced ingredients are used and the quality of fish and seafood are outstanding . But the most precious of all, are people ! People who run the place , there are amazing ! They all work as a team complementing and helping one another , they are friendly , polite , knowledgeable, professional , funny , not overwhelming . They speak quite a few languages , they make you to feel relaxed , cared for and very special .   Really excellent food. The fish is still breathing when you order it. It's not cheap, but if your looking for really well cooked food then it's worth splashing out. It's right on the beach, literally. You can be in your swimming trunks and get beer and proper, freshly made , think potato chips and ask for the piri piri sauce, but be prepared for the heat.   I had been trying to get a table here for a drink and maybe even lunch for a couple of days but it was always busy. Finally managed to get a table today early evening. Service was not good from the start, I had to ask for a drinks menu and then eventually someone took my order. Getting the bill at the end was not quick either. As the place was always so busy my expectations were higher but sadly it did not live up to them at all. Not great seeing some sort of dead animal being removed from underneath the boardwalk by the staff using a hand held net right next to this place either!   Called in here today to have a sandwich on the way to the beach. Myself and my partner ordered a portion of French fries with our sandwich and they were cold. The sandwich was very dry and the lady serving us was obviously not in good mood as she spoke very little and not even a smile. Maybe we arrived at a bad time because she was fussing over customer's who were there to spend lots more than us.   We called in here after taking a walk along the nearby Alvor Boardwalk (very pleasant, highly recommended). If you want sea food this place seems to have everything you might possibly want. We decided on the snacks menu and had some club sarnies and cheese toasties both with fries. The food was served quickly, the staff were attentive and the restaurant was very clean and tidy. Being on he edge of the beach it's very handy for anyone there to grab a quick drink, as well as being a full blown restaurant. There's a lovely terrace with parasols covering it and an indoor section for the main restaurant.   So, we showed up with little notice from the staff but no reservation, not realizing that that was the norm. When we finally grabbed the attention of a staff member, we were treated to a wonderful evening. Although it was touristy and the prices reflected that, the food was great, the atmosphere was welcoming and very enjoyable. The staff was all hands on deck with the service and we never went long without someone checking in. We received an offer of free drinks and a free dessert and all but licked the plate.   Had to wait 50 minutes for meal , got drink's quickly but no bread or olive's to keep us going . meal was a sea food risotto , more like soup with rice and sad to boot , staff friendly enough. I could cook better at home . My experience in Alvor is to stick to non fancy looking restaurants , far better food and better for value.
