  What's not to like. Make a booking or you may not get in even though it is quite large it is popular. The servers earn their money and are super efficient, almost stealth like. The food is really good and so many choices, unusual in the area. Parking at the door and roadside.   Food was mixed - pasta and starters were excellent but the pizzas were only OK. However what really let this place down was the service. We went for a big birthday in the family and we were excited to celebrate such a special occasion. It seems like the waiter assigned to our table actually wanted to annoy and provoke us as he was rolling his eyes and sneering. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a waiter. We were so disappointed. Slow service etc you can live with but to have a waiter that seems to have contempt for your party and in particular the person whose birthday it was is really unacceptable.   Couvert was probably nicest I've had for a while. Companions really enjoyed their pizzas but my Calzone was dry and a bit average. This is a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere but the service, in my opinion, was awful. The waiters looked stylish and modern but they were disinterested, constantly distracted and almost threw the food on the table. We weren't asked if our food was OK, offered condiments or asked if we wanted more drinks/dessert etc. A nice man did open the door for us as we left.   Tried the tomato soup and it was a hit, but the meat dishes were a bit of a letdown – lacked flavor. Some of the orders were forgotten and not served. Due the lack of proper ventilation in the kitchen the whole place smelled like it needed a serious air makeover. Props to the hardworking staff, though. Prices are on par, but I’ve had better meals in the area for the same dough. The crowd was mostly tourists and if you’re into the tourist scene, maybe give it a shot!   The food was good but when we ordered dessert they brought us huge sundaes that we hadn’t expected due to the description in the menu. When the bill came they charged us their extra scoops that we hadn’t ordered. When we mentioned this they preferred to argue for several minutes and insisted on the bill which we then payed.   Firstly arrived at 9 for reservation that had been made earlier in the day, had to wait 10 minutes while table cleared, brought to table and from here o. Service was poor, ordered water for table which had not come at end of starters, then ordered beer that I had to ask for again about 10 minutes later, then mains came out 2 of 4. A wait of 10 minutes before the other two came, while food was good, the original two were cold when we all started to eat. Spoke to the guy that appeared to be in charge when we finished our meal, he did in fairness offer apology but that was it! €92 for that kind of service is not good enough. We have been in Alvor for past 10 days and this is by far our worst experience, will not be go back and definitely would not recommend.   We have been going to AlDente for around twenty years, came this year and the service was diabolical we were served our food before receiving our drink. We were seated and asked for our drinks which never came in total we asked for them four times before we got them. I must say the food was excellent as normal. But the front of house really let it down for us this year. Very disappointed.   Delicious!! We got a sea food pasta that was one of the best things I have had and reminded me of a shrimp pasta my grandma used to make that I haven’t been able to replicate.   We booked a table for 7.30 and arrived at 7.20. Our drinks order was taken straight away, but we waited 20 minutes for 2 drinks. We ordered food when the drinks came. The starters arrived after 15 minutes or so, this was fine, but when it got to 9pm, and the main courses had not arrived we asked a waitress where the food was, and were ignored. 10 more minutes passed and we asked a waiter where our main courses were. You've had it said, no we haven't we replied. He went to investigate and informed us that there had been a mistake and the order had been overlooked. We asked for our bill, paid and left.   What a place. Despite is out of main streets of Alvor it is full and there is a reason. We came w/o reservation and we had luck to find a table. We ordered: -> Starter, squid to be served as main dish for our older son. It was very delicate and frying time was exactly in point. -> Mushroom Risotto. Originally served with schrimps but since my wife do not like it waiter w/o any action from our side immediately proposed to serve w/o it. Risotto was perfect -> Linguini Frutti di Mare -> Absolutely Great. Exactly as it should be. -> Pizza for younger son. Even our little fussy eater graded the pizza as fantastic -> Desserts -> Ice cream, big big portion and very good. -> Panna Cotta -> The white was good, the top was too much flavoured with some spice.   So often you walk into a restaurant and it can be a bit of a gamble as to what you get! Well this is one gamble I highly recommend you take. Great food which is fresh and the quality is immediately evident, great service which is on the right side of friendly and attentive, great atmosphere in a lovely building which is open and bright. A particular favourite was the bresaola with grilled pear but every dish we were served this evening was lovely (we just had a full selection of the starters shared between us) and all three of us are already planning to go back in the next few days.   This was our first visit to Al Dente! We went to celebrate a birthday! First impressions were very good, the staff were very friendly, welcoming & attentive, the service, food & drinks were very good & reasonably priced! I would have given them 3/4 stars if it had not been for the following! On entering we were shown to our table, I sat facing the kitchen so I didn't notice that behind me on the other side of the main room there was a large TV airing a football match which was being watched by a group of people I noted were only drinking! Suffice too say as the match progressed they got louder & louder!   What's there to say about this restaurant? Firstly the beautiful facade of the building draws you in, then the super staff make you feel very special while taking you to your table. Then the menu makes you salivate (and change your mind on what to order everytime you read the next dish 😀) as each dish sounds so good.   Appears to be shut just now with that not very helpful sign ‘closed for holidays’ on the door. How long will the holidays last? Went across the road to the Indian restaurant. Back in Alvor a year later (Nov 2021) and Al Dente has reopened, and it is much smarter inside, good flooring and lighting. We are shown to a table by the window with a 2 seater couch and a single chair. Couch looks good but it’s low so partner has to sit on a cushion and then there is no back support - they really aren’t great if you are eating, ok if you are just relaxing with a drink. So, to the food: good starter shared between us with lovely pesto , ok olive oil, poor tomato. She has pasta and prawns, wants white wine - I wanted a pizza with red wine, I give in and order rice with prawns and mushrooms. Big mistake: prawns light seafoody, mushrooms earthy, they don’t complement each other - mushrooms dominate, prawns are rubbery, don’t think they should be on the same plate together. Her prawns come with shells on so at the end she has sticky hands - other restaurants would provide a bowl of warm water or those small prepackaged towels to clean your fingers but nothing here. For the price this is a disappointing meal, albeit in better surroundings than there were before. Not sure we will be back in the future.
