  Overrated, pretentious and overpriced. Tomato soup was nice, but: the tuna was overcooked/dry on the outside and raw on the inside; the alcatra meat was dry and over seasoned with a ton of thyme.   Was here last year and enjoyed it. Came here this year and have to admit it was the worst food on the island. Cheap wine, old potatoes and low quality meat.   I came on a busy Sunday afternoon after Carnaval festivities. It was busy, but they had no problem accommodating a party of one. Staff was very patient with my limited Portuguese...they all spoke English. I ordered a meat/cheese plate and a rump croquette! I haven't had São Jorge cheese before. It was awesome. Service was great. With some very reasonably priced vinho tinto, it was a great afternoon meal. I would like to return for a proper meal next time!   Decided to go here based on the reviews but was very disappointed. I ordered the pasta with shrimp and couldn’t bring myself to eat half of it (usually I clean my plate). The shrimp was not fresh, possibly frozen but also possibly past its date—honestly, the sea is just down the street! The pasta was cooked properly, i’ll give them that but otherwise was only with olive oil for flavor. Also they had a problem with tiny flies…they attacked my wine and my food and i was constantly having to swat at them. I don’t understand how this place is so well rated, but i would never recommend it to friends or family…or even strangers. When 2 staff asked how it was and told them “not very good” or that i was disappointed about the quality of the fish, they just said “sorry” and handed me the bill.   We wanted this place to be memorable but for the wrong reason. The atmosphere is artsy but our garlic shrimp pasta used frozen, dry shrimps instead of fresh. A real Shame for a coastal city.   This was our best meal on the island. The shrimp as a starter was fantastic, probably the best shrimp I’ve ever had. The sangria was so delicious as well. The steak was perfectly cooked and the garlic aioli that came with the fries was fantastic. My partners tuna was also cooked to perfection.   This place seems to get mixed reviews, but we decided to try it because I wanted to try the traditional beef stew. This restaurant serves a huge portion for 2 people. Along with a mess of delicious fries, it made for a tasty meal. They also serve an interesting local dessert that is made up of milk, lots of sugar, cinnamon, and vinegar. The vinegar causes the milk to clot. It’s very sweet, but actually quite tasty. This is a very busy restaurant – we went early since I wasn’t able to make a reservation, and I was glad they were able to take us.   The food was okeish ( price vs quality) but nothing special. We got interrupted 4 times with the same question : did you finish, even we had still food in our hands - we felt like we needed to speed up and leave. On another note the small coming from the kitchen was bad - someone must have burnt something and all our clothes needed to be washed straight after dinner. All in all not a great experience .   Classic tourist trap overcrowded with foreigners wanting to cross this off their to-do list. Not enough small tables so bored single travellers occupy 4-person tables while idly browsing their social media for ages. Meanwhile guests with or without reservations queue at the bar and out through the door, giving cold hard stares as they impatiently wait for diners to finish their meal and leave so they can pounce on a table. Food arrived quickly but nothing special. Probably the only restaurant in Portugal to serve a mixed cheese/meat platter without bread - which cost extra after chasing 2 waiters for 10 minutes. Euro 30 for a bottle of Terras De Lava Branco costing Euro 10.90 in the shops. Euro 78 for 4 starters and a bottle of wine was by far the most expensive meal during a two week vacation. After speaking with a few locals, we learned that nobody from Angra would recommend this restaurant. For a real Portuguese food experience, find where the locals eat.   Service seemed nice in the begining, strong start, recommended some wines, we had a laugh. But… We waited for appetisers for more than 1 hour, tables that came later than us have already eaten their main dishes. It’s okay, we understood that there was a mistake and stayed patiently waiting. Although service disappeared, everybody ignored us, nobody spoke to us and said nothing. We got our main meals 40min later after starters. Fillet mignon and tuna were good, but tuna’s garnish was terrible - bad potatoes (literally black) cooked in sugar. When we asked for the bill the guy that was serving us in the beginning (dark, semi long hair, who we thought was one of the responsible ones) said: “ask someone who will take care of You”.   Best filet mignon ever!!! I tried the roastbeef version, with herb butter, hollandaise sauce and french fries. The rare cooking was perfect and also desserts were delicious: dona Amelia cake and almond pie. With a good bottle of Duoro red wine and some starters to share, we spent 25€ each.   We tried their best seller * tuna stake *, it was delicious. I've never seen such a thick cut of Tuna. We went twice during our short stay. We also tried the T bone steak. It was to die for. Fried prawns from the starters is yummy too. Good selection of wines to choose from. We spent between 50- 67eurors for 2 people. ( bottle of wine, 2 starters - olives and fried prawns - and a main to share and a dessert ). Recommended to make a reservation if you want to have dinner.   we had a reservation for 9:30 PM and we got seated at 10:15 PM, and in spite of ordering right away, we weren’t served till close to 11 PM. No one checked in on us to ensure we had forks to eat with and when I pointed out this abysmal service, the owner lady turned rude, got defensive and berated us like we were dining for free. Talked to me disrespectfully and made a scene. The staff seem scared of her to speak up. I’d forgive all this if the food was half good, but that wasn’t the case either. I feel bad for the staff who has to deal with a woman like her, but I hope everyone reading this can save themselves and avoid this restaurant at all costs.   Overall negative experience. We didn’t feel welcomed. 1. While ordering the waiter was impacient and putting us in an uncomfortable position. 2. More than half of the menu was over and therefore it was difficult to order what we wanted. Besides that we ordered a dish accompained with bread but at the end they didn’t have bread and didn’t bring it. When we asked for the bread that should be included they explained they didn’t have. They should have been honest and explain this and not ignore the situation. 3. The portions were very small for the price! Besides that we saw other pictures were the servings were better than ours proving us our servings were indeed less than what it should be. The serving of “enchidos” were very little and didn’t have different types. Some of the clams were closed (and therefore could not be eaten). 4. The waiters seemed very smiley but were actually very incompetent and not honest. In reality they seemed very fake. 5. At the end we gave a small tip but they didn’t even thank us! Quite ungrateful! At the end, after 5 days in the island, this was sadly the most negative moment. However, we had great experiences at other restaurantes like a “Taberna do Roberto” e “À Vista”.   One of the most expensive and most disappointing meals of our trip. We initially dismissed the negative reviews of this place, but found ourselves regretting our choice. Staff were great but otherwise I would say the food was underwhelming both in quality as well as value. Do be aware that while the price of the appetizers is about 'average' for the Azores, the portions were tiny (about half size/like tapas style) which is out of step for the locale. The only thing this place really has going for it are the beef steaks. I admit the steak was likely worth the price, as it was tender and perfectly cooked.   Easily the worst meal I've had in Angra Do Heroismo. Skip this, it's better to go hungry than eat here. The pasta was very stiff, almost hard, and completely unseasoned. The shrimp was cooked into oblivion, almost cake-y, and tasted very fishy. The whole dish was uninspired and almost tasteless. The hostess was kind but as soon as we sat down the service stopped. We were asked 1 time what we wanted and were never checked on again. Ironically we would have ordered more drinks, water, and before the meal came we were planning on ordering dessert. Good thing we didn't because that meal was garbage. By chance I had ordered almost the exact same meal at a bar down the street the night before and it was flavorful and delicious, served with mushrooms and seasoned to perfection. Go there instead.   Food was excellent, we both had tuna steaks. We also had the ham and cheese board for starters which was delicious, however came with olives on the same plate that we were charged extra for. They also brought bread out at the same time which we were charged for too.   This place was highly recommended by our tour guide for a free night out. I can see why. We were early and fortunately so because we had no wait for a table. Leaving at 9 pm people were streaming in. The waiter spoke excellent English and was very gracious. My calamari was lightly cooked as it should be, not like rubber bands.   We got there quite early and it was very quiet but the staff were welcoming and friendly. Starters were great but unfortunately I think they forgot our mains as we were waiting for 60 minutes+. We did say it to them and at that stage they were incredibly busy and as we were on holidays we were in no rush. When the food did come out the mains weren't as nice as the starters.   This is a really lovely restaurant, we came twice and enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great. Food is decently priced, would recommend the shrimp pasta, piri piri shrimp, and haka fillets especially! The potato skins weren’t that great - better off getting normal fries I would say. The clams were quite strong and not much meat, and the tuna had a strong olive taste which I’m not a fan of personally. But otherwise it’s a lovely restaurant with lots of great options and good portions - we’d definitely recommend!!   Would have rated 0 stars if possible. Made a reservation, however there was no table available, so we had to wait outside. After we were seated (the waiter just put an extra table in the already very very crowded court yard), we were forgotten for a while. After we asked for menus ourselves, the starter arrived (I ordered this as a starter to share, with 2 plates). Five (maybe even sooner) minutes later the main courses arrived. We told the waitress we just received our starter, so we were not ready for the main course yet. She looked at us very aggressively without saying anything (it looked like she did not understand us at all) and placed the plates on the side of our table, for us to figure out what to do with it. In addition, the food was not what you should expect for the amount paid (rather expensive). For less money, you can eat way better with better service and seats at for example ‘Mercatto Di Osteria’.   Tbh I can say this was terrible,the staff did not ask us how the meal was, we felt like we were being ignored, they did not ask if we needed a refill, the restaurant was very full a lot of people waiting for there meals, I did see some people also leave, we were waiting 60 mins to get the mains and the starter was over priced and small, the wine was bad, that could be down to me tho, the service was not good but the meat was cooked very well, I had the fillet but the fries that came with it was thin and I assumed frozen as they had no taste. There was alot of room on the plate it needed to be served with salad also when we paid no one spoke to us, they just passes us the bill, on this note we did ask for the bill after the meal bit no one came..did not even offer the desert menu, I will not eat at this place again, there are alot better restaurants just a few doors down, if this helped anyone it's worth writing this.   If you eat at 8 o'clock, the place is gonna be cramped. Lots of guests and the service is gonna be busy. I however loved this place, we had no hurry and just calmly reminded the service if they forgot something. I saw other tables get very upset (they were Americans) about the service.   After seeing the incredible reviews we arrived with high expectations. We had a reservation and when we arrived the staff working in the bar just simply ignored us. When we got our table the menu was handed over without any further comments. We waited nearly 15 minutes for the waiter to take our order, and when we wanted to go with a soup as the starter we got the crucial information that's not available. So our waiter was standing beside the table until we went through on the starters again. I felt rushed and a bit uncomfortable, tbh. We have ordered the fried potatoes skin and olives as starter and steak with french fries and the cod as a main. The olives arrived in a shallow bowl soaking in oil the potatoes skin was a bit burnt and slightly bitter. One of the waitress was throwing things - cutlery on our table, the menus - I was honestly shocked to see her behaviour. I give a 3 stars only because my husband's steak was really lovely and my cod was also prepared nicely. Our experience wasn't anywhere near to 5*. I wouldn't dine there again.   Love ya Mom. But your pot roast could never touch the Alcatra they serve here. Maybe it’s the clay pot they cook it in or the just wine, garlic and onion for flavor. Maybe the beef here and the sweetbread for sopping up the gravy is just special. This was an incredible meal and as I looked at other meals being served, I’ll probably have to come back.   This restaurant is possibly one of the best in central Angra. Table service is flawless and there is plenty of seating, both for couples and for big groups. The interiors are nicely furnished with abundance of wooden frames and old-fashioned pictures. The waiting staff is very kind and attentive. I believe the forte of this restaurant is beef, together with an appropriate selection of wine. Expect to pay a bit more than the average tasca, but all food was delicious.   Our experience was outstanding - immediately drawn in by the spectacular interior design, originally just for a glass of wine, their list is impressive. We liked the service so much we stayed for dinner. My fried hake was so fresh and simple, and my husband's tuna steak was excellent. As we dined, the empty space filled up quickly so I think we're not the only ones who love it. Prices a fractionally higher than other places but this is justified by the striking design and modern interpretation of local cuisine. I would advise getting a bottle of wine to share rather than individual glasses, since much better quality comes by the bottle.   Delicious food and good service. For starters, I tried the octopus salad that was marinated in a nicely spiced chili pepper oil with onions and parsley, and also tried the fried shrimp tias style which had a buttery garlic chili piri-piri sauce, both very delicious and filling, especially when you dip the bread in the sauces! For entrees I had the Azorean Tuna which was a little fishy at first bite but with the salad that came with it, it mellowed out the seafood smell.   Really great food, had the "Alcatra de Carne" and it was crazy good. Reminded me of Lamb Stew. The fries that came with the dish were not enough for 2 people and had to ask for more. The prices were ok for the quality of the food. We were seated on an outdoor / indoor area that was cozy albeit a bit secluded from the main room.   Very frustrating. We ordered two different dishes of filet mignon. The waitress left before we could tell her how we wanted it done. As a result one of us received the meat medium rare, which was fine, the other one had more or less raw meat.   Amazing restaurant in the center of Angela! Everything was perfect. The menu is not very big, but that is for the best: first there is very interesting and super tasty snacks. Staff could be friendlier and professional, I’ve missed some attention as client. The environment is very clean and nice decorated. Parking in the area can be tricky at lunch time as it’s located in city center, easier at dinner time. For dessert I have tried the “Doce the vinagre” which is traditional in the island, it was too sweet, I needed lots of water after eating it, I tried it in other places during my stay and the flavor was lighter and better.   Our taxi driver strongly suggested this place and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing. One down side was that customer service wasn't what was expected from a more high end place like this. But that might also do to being a foreigner. And as a high end restaurant their menu is somewhat limited food wise. Wine and drink wise on the other hand, they are well versed.   Nicely decorated and renovated when compared to other restaurants around the street. Food are fresh and properly cooked. Now the reasons they lost 2 stars from me are as followed: 1. Waitress lacking motivation to serve. 2. Taste of food doesn't really pair up with price, in other words, doesn't taste so well also over priced. Especially their tuna fillets are just not qualified to be served in any restaurant, tastes way too salty and missing the tenderness and sweet tuna texture which they were supposed to have.   Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy our stay and the food at this place. First, the waitresses are very unorganized. We were asked several times what we want to eat by different girls. Later, when we needed something, none of them was available or even looked at us. We were served partly the wrong food. Second, the food was just not good. We've had some lapas first, which were ok, but the meat was full of tendons and impossible to cut. The batatas (sweet potatoes) were so overfried that they turned dark and hard as stone, also impossible to eat. The dessert was not very tasty, but ok. It snot too big of a menu, but they have something for everyone and what they have is delicious!   Great spot! A must go when on the island! Staff was friendly and helpful with questions about the menu, had the T bone it was huge and absolutely delicious, steak cooked perfectly.   Made advance reservations for a party of 11. Servers taking reservation were very nice and accommodating. Different story when we came in to eat. Servers didn’t really care. Would not accommodate separate checks and found a few errors when it came to checking out. Each person had to go to the counter and pay for what they ordered. Food was ok. I ordered filet mignon with fries. Filet was excellent. Fries were soggy. My partner ordered shrimp pasta. Shrimp were WAY overcooked. I would not return.   One of the most traditional places in the city. It is heavily frequented by tourists and it is common that staff starts talking with clients in english even if they are Portuguese. The dishes are in general good. The sea food is served in bigger portions compared to meat options. The fried chicken was a bit dry with too much flour. The tuna fish was great! It was higher than some, but by USA standards an absolute bargain. First server was either shy or unfriendly. Really could not tell.   I have been walking the streets of Angra do Heroismo all week long looking for a dining experience like this. Several restaurants were recommended, but none were mentionable. We stumbled upon Tasca Das Tia’s by accident because they posted their menu outside. I had the Azores Tuna, and my wife ordered the Shrimp Pasta. We also had a huge carafe of Sangria and dessert of Dona Amelia. All of our items were truly outstanding which is far and away more than I can say for any other dining experience I have had on the island so far, and the Dona Amelia was the by far the best we have ever tried. As some reviewers have mentioned, the prices may be SLIGHTLY higher than other menu items of the same name found in other restaurants on the island but the quality, presentation, and atmosphere are not comperable. Even with prices being slightly higher, and we are talking about maybe one Euro in price difference, the prices are a bargain compared to anything you would find in the USA. I haven’t been to any other restaurant on the island I would return to, but I am on my way to Tasca Das Tia’s right now.   We loved that the servers were nice and helpful. They made the experience for us. As someone who doesn’t speak portuguese, everyone was very kind and made us feel at home. Our food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Helpful tips, make a reservation during busy season, when it’s not busy season you seat yourself, and when you’re done you can go up to the bar and pay. I loved the tuna.   It is stylish restaurant with chill atmosphere in the center of the city. Only thing what I would change is the TV program. There was running some sport which absolutely didn't fit in their concept. We tried local speciality the Alcatra for two. It is a lot of beef in strong consomme with the spice, bacon pieces and bones. Served with fries and sweet bread. It was delicious, I can recommend it. Only problem for me was laziness of one waitress, when we finished our lunch we had to go to the bar to be able pay because she was on the phone and did not register that we want something to order or pay (we waited 10 minutes then decided to go to the bar).   Today we had lunch at Tasca das Tias in Angra do Heroísmo. Kudos to the chef because the food was good, especially the fish soup, lapas, and filletes de arbrotea. The service was abismal. It was apparent the waitresses had not been trained nor was there a supervisor to make sure all was running well. Our appetizers were served at the same time as the soup. One of the main dishes came out shortly after we had started the soup. Not once in our hour and fifteen minutes did a waitress come by to check on us. Our waitress clocked out in the middle of our meal. Finally, the waitresses’ responsibilities including bussing tables, cash register, drinks from the bar, and taking orders and delivering dishes. We were sitting right by the kitchen and waitresses also were helping to clean and stack dirty dishes. Someone needs to come in and help them get organized. During the meal a young man in beach wear walks through the kitchen, comes out to get a knife from one of the tables, goes back in the kitchen, comes out and goes behind the bar. He wasn’t dressed like an employee and seemed inappropriately dressed to behind be the bar. Again, the food was good, the employees were working hard, but service poor due to lack of and supervision.   The best meals we had on our 10 day Tercerian vacation. Everything we had was great! The service is welcoming and every server chips in to cover all the tables. We went with our 3 year old and all of the waitstaff interacted with her and made us feel right at hime. Not pretentious but high quality. Great wine selection! Restaurant is warm, cozy and relaxing.   Really awesome food. Probably some of the best food that you'll find in the Terceiran region. Try the share platter, its the best dish you can try. I swear you'll love this place.   Sharing platter was exceptional with a great balance of cheese and the right mixture of quality meats. I can't express enough how good the olives were. Rump steak and shrimp pasta were as good as can be, wonderful seasonings and very generous portions. A great place to be in the evening and the price was much cheaper than it could have been.   Lovely tuna, friendly service. Had an excellent lunch with tuna cooked in the Azorean way. Good side dishes too and went well with the local wine (Pico).
