  We arrived at this small restaurant during our hike in Rota Vicentina, and desperately needed somewhere to rest. This restaurant offered the best seafood in the region. The squids were so fresh, and were cooked to perfection. The taste of kidney beans stew with prawns and clams was so good that we finished every last bean. The portions were large, and the price was the lowest in the area. I cannot recommend more. This restaurant is definitely the highlight of our trip.   Interesting local restaurant. Very good service. At the time I was in, there were only locals. The restaurant is on the Fishermen’s Trail, supposedly can busy with hikers, don’t know for sure though. The ocean is right there but just enough away to prevent awesome scenery.   My family and very much enjoyed the grilled prawns and the fish soup, with rice. They were quite fresh and flavourful. Prices were decent given that it is seafood. Our waiter was super patient, helpful and compassionate- given there is a language barrier. It was nice to enter an unfamiliar small town after being on the road, not having to worry about parking as there are plenty of options on the street and a parking area right in front of the restaurant.   We went in the morning to make a reservation because someone recommended the restaurant to us. They refused to take our reservation, saying there would be no problem to get a table, even outside. When we returned at 14:00 for lunch, we had to wait for 20min to get a table inside. Outside we would have had to wait even longer. We ordered rice with seafood and fried squids (two adults, one child). Asking if that would be enough they told us that maybe a starter might be suitable. The food: the rice was nice, had lots of seefood but had too much of a cilantro, which can be quite dominant. By the way the portions are very generous, in the end we thought there was no need to have ordered a starter. The squid was not edible because it was full of sand. We tried one and a half but gave up then. The starter (octupus salad) was ok. Despite our complaints about the squid they insisted on charging us the full amount, saying it is impossible that there was sand in there. Summary: the place seemed totally overrated to us. Aliás as porções são muito generosas, no final achámos que não havia necessidade de ter pedido uma entrada. A lula não era comestível porque estava cheia de areia. Tentamos um e meio, mas desistimos. A entrada (salada de polvo) foi ok. Apesar das nossas reclamações sobre a lula eles insistiram em cobrar o valor total, dizendo que era impossível que houvesse areia ali. Resumo: o lugar parecia totalmente superestimado para nós.

  This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Lisbon and seeing this was my first time to Portugal I had to take advice from someone in “the know”. First off, this place doesn’t take reservations, so it’s “first come, first serve”. It sits atop of a cliff side overlooking the Atlantic Ocean so the dinner view, especially at sunset is spectacular! There’s outdoor seating and it’s very kid-friendly. Most of the patrons are locals, but that might be because it’s the only place in town… When it comes to the food, it’s fantastic! We had the Octopus Salad, the Clams and the Sapateira. All of the dishes were fresh and probably the best seafood we had yet! The service was very friendly and atmosphere was as well, as we made friends with some of the locals sitting next to us! I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you’re in Southern Portugal!   bean caserole as a veggie was AMAZING!!!!!! it was also HUGEEEEE comes with rice, so it will suffice as a a meal for 2 people. I, however was hiking, so ate the whole thing as it was soo tasty. but this was a bad idea. I was so very full up, basically just added 3 kgs for the next part of the 22km hike we were on!   As a local living in Portugal I can say that this place is completely overrated. We ordered two of the most basic dishes you can order in portugal - grilled Bacalhao and grilled octopus. Neither was worth the price and honestly the Bacalhao was inedible. It was so salty I had to leave the majority on the plate. So many people go for the experience the view and if visiting portugal are in awe about having a fresh fish. But if you compare to many other places there are many, many better options for the price point.   Chosen because of great Google maps reviews but disappointed, only average seafood and fish at best. Seems to be aiming very much at the non Portuguese tourist. Also, and no fault of the restaurant, we were plagued by flies throughout our early evening meal, probably from the fish dock & stores nearby.   I happened to find this place on google one night and we stopped by. It was packed at 830pm but they still had a table for us (5 people). We were starving so we over-ordered but everything was amazing. I got to choose the fish and lobster and the monk fish stew is an absolute must. The best monk fish stew I've had in Portugal and for such a great price. It's meant for 2 people but it easily feeds 4 if you have other dishes too. We also had grilled octopus which was one of the specials of the day but it had a bit of a mushy texture. The flavour was good though. Would definitely go back.   If you're looking for fresh seafood, this is the place to go to. Crabs and lobsters are caught locally, as are some of the fish available. Make sure you have plenty of time as it's a very busy restaurant. Without a reservation it took us about 20 minutes to get a table and at least 40 minutes before the main course arrived. We had a fresh crab which came with brown meat prepared in the shell and claws, legs and body for picking out the white meat. Additionaly we ordered stew with ray wings which came with a rich tomato sauce, potatoes and sweet potato. The dishes are quite large and each of the main courses would have been enough for two, so make sure to check this before ordering too much.   We went to the restaurant for take away after seeing the high ratings. We cannot recommend! The manager was really nice, but unfortunately eating the food when we came home was a huge disappointment. The seafood is definitely not fresh. I’ve had frozen seafood that’s better than this. The octopus was chewy, the same with the monk fish pasta, and all in all everything just tasted old and overcompensated with oils and sauces to cover up the old flavour.   Saw the signs when driving on the main road from Lagos. The restaurant had really good reviews so we were excited to try it. We arrived around 3pm so there was no wait. Unfortunately the service was slow and the quality not to the level we were used to from other coastal towns in Portugal.   Fantastic food. We got the mussel salad (fresh and delicious in a citrus / olive oil / onion dressing), and caldeirada, which was listed as a two-person portion and we couldn’t finish it because the portion was huge. It took about 45 mins to prepare and had a lot of fresh fish chunks and a great broth. Enjoyed with cold Super Bocks. There wasn’t any wait because of the timing (early July). Highly recommend.   Great lunch! If you love seafood search no more, one of the best places you can go in Portugal. The restaurante is quite small and it’s basically a “tasca” (which is Portuguese for a “not fancy restaurant”) but the food makes up for any lack of decor or for the service, which is nice because the employees are good people. The prices are just crazy for the level of seafood you’re eating, just ask for Percebes and for the Santola (on the pic) and you’ll see what I’m talking. The only bad thing is the waiting time, since the restaurant is very small you usually need to spend at least an hour(if you’re a large group then good luck) until you can get a table and they accept no reservations, you can just give your name at the entrance and wait to be called. And — they only speak Portuguese — they have a tourist menu in English but it is super lame compared to the real menu. I’d recommend “point and pray” if you don’t speak Portuguese.   We decided to make a detour to have lunch here based on the rating and reviews. Upon arriving turned out the restaurant was fully booked and waiting time was very long. Standard dishes available (pulvo salad, cooked shrimp, cheese) for above average prices via self service at the bar. These weren’t fresh, octopus was very fatty and the mussels we really didn’t enjoy. For three dishes we paid €38 and weren’t satisfied. I would recommend eating somewhere that holds its authenticity and provides better service.   Great place to eat delicious and fresh seafood. I strongly recommend you try "Sapateira" (Brown Crab). They serve it still warm and it's amazing. If you enjoy seafood and want some more in one single plate, I also recommend "Arroz de Marisco" which is a seafood rice casserole, and also very delicious. Important note: the restaurant is very good and very popular so make sure you get there before 12h (pm) for lunch and before 19h (7pm) for dinner.   Lovely little restaurant perched atop the cliff, offering nice views of the sunset. The food was spectacularly good, with portions ridiculously large. And in the off-season this restaurant was not only open, they were open outside traditional hours. Some of the staff was very helpful, but others were quite averse to any contact with my table. On the downside, with lovely weather even in December, I was not able to eat on the terrace in the sea air, but had to be crammed into a tiny restaurant full of families and children. Oh well, the food (mostly) made up for that, so be aware but don't let it put you off.
