  To start with the positives - the view was simply gorgeous. Our waiter was knowledgeable, genuine, and very fair and honest in his suggestions. Our group of 8 shared 4 different fish varieties - sword fish, parrotfish, dragon fish, and tuna. All were simply delicious and tender. Service was fast and both the starters and sides (Prawns, calamari, red rice, fries) were phenomenal. Given the above, this place was very close a 5 star review but was let down by a few things. In particular, the suggested wine pairing wasn't particularly good. The desserts were somewhat middle of the road. Last, our timing was put a little bit off because our eating plates were cleared too fast yet our bill was delayed.   This is a good seafood restaurant. Freshly cooked fish that we chose and a bottle of Portuguese white wine. All good. The problem we had was using their pick up service. Don’t use it.   What a disappointing lunch today. The codfish was practically inedible. After the meal was delivered our waiter explained this was because the fish arrives frozen, packed in salted ice and dried for two days. Then they overcook it.   Had lunch at Vila do Peixe today. Nice spot with good views of the bay at Camara do lobos. They have a lot of fresh fish options. My issue is I don't know 95% of them. Personally if they listed them on the menu with English translation I would be more inclined to order them. We ordered some appetizers only. Grilled calamari, fried scabbard fish and french fries. All tasted good , but were a little overly salty for my taste. They charged €3.90 for a bottle of still water. For lunch , the prices were a bit on the high side.   One of the best fish restaurant of the entire island. Super fresh from the daily fishing. You can choose directly your fish in fridge and pay it per kilo. Good dishes.   This was our favourite restaurant on the island. Magnificent views towards the ocean from the huge glass windows. Huge choice of fresh fish which is then grilled to perfection. Impeccable service. However, our experience was slightly marred by a lack of attentiveness from the staff. When our mix fish grill arrived, it was surprising to receive a whole fish in the middle of the meal, disrupting the dining flow. It would have been preferable to have all elements of the ordered dish served together. Despite this hiccup, the cassata and cheesecake desserts were both delightful, ending the meal on a high note.   Unfortunately, the quality of food and service has nothing in common with a top rated restaurant. We found this restaurant in the gourmet guide, which is crazy considering the fact that we’ve been in Madeira for 1 week already and tried out many top rated and also underrated restaurants, which were 100% better than Vila do Peixe. We ordered Parrot fish and it was overcooked and dry. For sides we ordered fried maize and red pepper rice, plus grilled potatoes… which were fine but nothing that was better than in the rest of restaurants in Madeira. + all the other restaurants, even more expensive… will have a side dish included in the price of the fish. Here you need to order everything separately. At some point, they wanted to bring us some fries that we did not ordered and we had the feeling that those were the same fries we have seen to be taken away from another table, as leftover. Terrible location - not even taking into account the gourmet guide. It was the lowest quality we’ve seen in Madeira. Service: poor service, unfriendly staff. They did not say hello, they were mumbling all the time. I’ve seen in the other comments that people noticed the staff to be nicer with the locals. It’s true! Aqui você precisa encomendar tudo separadamente. A dada altura, quiseram trazer-nos umas batatas fritas que não pedimos e tivemos a sensação de que eram as mesmas batatas fritas que vimos serem tiradas de outra mesa, como sobras. Localização terrível - sem levar em conta o guia gourmet. Foi a qualidade mais baixa que vimos na Madeira. Serviço: mau serviço, pessoal hostil. Eles não cumprimentavam, ficavam resmungando o tempo todo. Vi em outros comentários que as pessoas notaram que a equipe era mais gentil com os habitantes locais. É verdade!

Her starter was suppose to have calamari, but they gave broad beans instead because they ran out. We got no compensation or apology for this. Apart from that everything else was great.   The place was half empty but still we waited 50 min. But the biggest disappointment was a vegetarian burger. I understand that the focus of the restaurant is on fish but it's just unfair to serve a burger that is half empty with few french fries on a side. It's not worth the money.   This was a wow-moment! We read a travel diary from another Swede that went here and we are so happy that we listened to her. If you like fish just a little or very much, this is a restaurant not to miss. And if you do not like fish, you will for sure start to. Amazing surrounding area. We took a cab from Funchal and the ride gave us a so nice view. The harbour and area should not be missed either, like when you have finished your meal. But the food. OMG. We started ’Limpets’. If you miss this one, you will be sorry. We were 3 that shared on the starter and I could have taken 1 of my own. Not because there were to few, they were to good!! Continued with grilled tuna. Advertised as free bus service to Funchal, when we paid and come out though ask the driver if he can drop us in town before Funchal, he explained the bus is only for restaurant customers only,, I even told him Ii had dinner and show him the table I have been so he asked the waiter, the waiter said I have to reserve in advance, how could I if I only come for the day.   Not sure if it is common, but waiter offered water, I asked if it was free, he said no. Also they serve bread and butter, we didn’t touch it, I suspect it was not free too. The top terrace was empty and it was prepared for clients, so we asked to sit there, after a few second consideration waiter said to go downstairs and sit inside. Overall the food was mediocre for its price. It was our 6th restaurant on Madeira, and any other was incomparable better.   First time in this fantastic restaurant. As the name says (my reading!) House of Fish, (see also their other place for meat) and boy do they have fish! Availability depends upon what's been caught. Best enjoyed if a couple choose the same fish as it's sold by item, (whole fish, by weight) not a portion. They even operate their own taxi service to / from where you may be staying - really handy as most places are a long way up the hills!   Not up to the hype or reviews posted by others. Yes, the food is fresh, and grilled fish can only be good. But, that's where the positives end. Service bordered on nonexistent to intermittent . Apparently, as I found out later, this is the norm for both this restaurant and its sister restaurant next door. One waiter forgot to enter our order for wine, while he tended to three other tables. Then, no one brought our side order of vegetables, yhough ee were billed for it. When a server came up to ask for our interest in dessert, he said he'd return with the dessert menu...which never happened. I could go on, but you get the point.   Loved this place. Food is great, staff are friendly. You basically choose the fish you want them to cook for you. Parking is actually quite easy and they have their own car park, although I found parking on the road for free. If you love the freshest fish, grilled on the bone, this is for you.   Not great, seems to be a hotspot for tourists…Lunch took four hours from start to finish because of the painfully slow service. It wasn’t even at full capacity.   Why would this particular restaurant of all on Madeira would get a Michelin Bib Gourmand is a complete mystery to me. Neither food nor service was particularly good. It was ok. The only thing that you can’t beat here is the fantastic view over the village and ocean. We were a group 5 sommeliers coming for lunch. The restaurant was empty and still they seemed not particularly happy with walk-ins. We didn’t have much time, cause we had a visit scheduled at Henriques&Henriques. And we always had to call to be attended several times before someone finally decided to react, and that several times. Seemed they were much interested in reorganising wine fridges than in attending. It was annoying cause it was right by our table. I had amêijoas à bulhão pato (clams, 17,50€), which were the biggest I ever had in Portugal and can’t say this big size benefits the taste - they were rubbery and had some sand grains and lacked flavour (garlic & herbs). I also ordered percebes (goose barnacles, 18€) for my colleagues to try and for some mysterious reason they decided to boil them without even asking (on continental Portugal they are always served like oysters - raw and fresh). It was a disaster, didn’t like it. And didn’t quite have the wines that were on the list, so I had to get up to see what they physically had in the wine fridge. Strange experience.   The restaurant has two things going for it - nice view of the ocean and modern facility. The quality of service is underwhelming. We waited close to an hour for our fish to be grilled, and that’s considering we showed up when the restaurant was half empty. Quality of food is… meh. We got a grilled fish that was seriously lacking both salt or pepper and potato fries that were too soggy to be called French fries. We also got fried cornmeal that was sort of okay. It is a mystery to me why this place is on the Michelin recommendation list. I’d think Michelin listed restaurant requires to have not just line cooks but also a chef and sous chef. Based on the very basic food preparation and absence of any sous on our plates, it appears that both of these are absent. Bottom line, if you are looking to experience the meal that an outcast on the deserted island can put together with an open fire and a fish on a spear, that’s your place.   The good: the fish was very good and super fresh, the portions of the side dishes(accompaniments) were very generous . The restaurant is very nice and the terrace has a nice view. The bad: you have to chase the waiters in order to get to your table, of course everyone was busy so we have to wait 5-10 min to find someone willing to assign us a table (we had a reservation). All the side dishes (or accompaniments) were average at best, you can find better rice or potatoes in any other restaurant, the only ok one was the "fried maize", that is actually corn flour fried, not the actual corn(or maize) The ugly: they forgot two dishes of our table of 6, so two people were waiting for food that never came, when we asked what happened... They simply told us that they forgot about it .. not even a courtesy Coffee was offered.   We went to the restaurant recommended by a friend. Unfortunately it has been a disaster. We had to wait an hour and a half for the food. I had to ask three times for a glass of wine.   For all Pescatarians (lovers of fish)! Our group of 4 for lunch walked from Funchal (allow 2 hours) and started with a delightful bottle of sparkling wine on the sunlit terrace. As the breeze picked up we moved indoors. We went up to the counter to choose our fish and, after advice, decided on a mixed platter to share - 2 red mullet, 2 parrot fish and 2 fillets of the local scabbard fish, which was a well balanced mix, beautifully cooked. We had this with one small portion each of chips and salted potatoes plus a large portion of salad, all of which was which was more than enough. We had a lovely smooth Vinho Verde from the cabinet and another white that I forget. The total with a decent tip was only E40 each, which was either a mistake (we did check) or our best bargain meal this holiday! We got the bus back to town.   Very good restaurant with a nice view over the bay and Cámara de Lobos. We took an octopus and followed chef’s recommendation for fish of the day (which was grilled perfectly).   Fancy prices for not fancy food. I had a meal here the other week and found it cost a great deal €45 the food was less than nothing special. They get you to pay for the whole fish at an alarming rate per kg (especially when you consider most of it is inedible head&bones) the accompying veg etc is bland and sold in addition to the fontune you've already spent. Happy to pay top prices for top food..... This definately wasnt it though, quite the opposite.   Great food, very tasty and beautifully grilled fish. I liked the simplicity of the dish, there was not much seasoning which works for grilled fish, as you will really taste the fish itself. We had dorado and red sea bream, both were perfect. The only negative point were the waiters, service quality was poor and without coordination!   Bit of a touristy place. But hey... I am one. The chef recommended Sea Bream as a whole fish. It was excellent! Sweet white flesh done just right with good olive oil. (If it had been a bit more descaled it would have been perfect). We also had very tender squid as a starter, both dishes grilled over open fire. The starters are very large and could easy be enjoyed as a main course. The prawns and octopus were very delicious. The mains were less good.   People raved about this restaurant but, having made the effort to head out to Camara dos Lobos from our hotel in Funchal (it's a 15 euro taxi ride each way), we were disappointed. The restaurant's got a gorgeous view across the harbour, with a lovely little terrace covered in Madeiran flags and flower garlands, but the minute we chose there instead of the quite boring interior, we seemed to disappear for the staff. They brought us the "cover" starter (three mini-dishes that everyone eats) without explaining them and a good 15 minutes before we had to ask for the wine menu. You choose your fish from a slab of the catch of the day but the price isn't marked up so I had to hope what I'd chosen would be nice! We asked for a sea bream and a starter dish of clams to share but they must have misheard this as we got the clams, then our other main perhaps 25 minutes later. The fish was nicely grilled, but full of teeny tiny bones which meant very little flesh on the fish. All in all, I was disappointed with the food and with constantly having to chase our waiter down. O restaurante tem uma vista deslumbrante sobre o porto, com uma pequena e encantadora esplanada coberta de bandeiras madeirenses e guirlandas de flores, mas no minuto em que escolhemos lá em vez do interior bastante chato, parecemos desaparecer para os funcionários. Trouxeram-nos a entrada "cover" (três mini-pratos que toda a gente come) sem os explicar e uns bons 15 minutos antes de termos que pedir a carta de vinhos. Você escolhe o seu peixe a partir de uma fatia da captura do dia, mas o preço não é aumentado, então eu tinha que torcer para que o que eu tivesse escolhido fosse bom! Pedimos uma dourada e um prato inicial de amêijoas para compartilhar, mas eles devem ter ouvido mal quando pegamos as amêijoas e, em seguida, nosso outro prato principal, talvez 25 minutos depois. O peixe estava bem grelhado, mas cheio de pequenos ossos, o que significava muito pouca carne no peixe. No geral, fiquei decepcionado com a comida e com a constante necessidade de perseguir nosso garçom.
