  Such a disappointment. Incredible views and there the positive review ends. Despite being first in the restaurant, with waiters and chefs standing by for the hour and a half we were there, they could not have shown any less interestin in accommodating a slightly different dietary requirement (I’m allergic to garlic)… we love food, love eating out, love meeting people, have had a very positive experience of eating out in the Algarve so far and have worked in the high end restaurant industry ourselves and yet we were thoroughly underwhelmed by this restaurant. Staff need training on manners especially when seating you are held back at the door whilst they attempt to find your booking?! and when settling your bill be prepared for a long wait! Food is good overall it's a shame that the dining experience was let down by front of house service.   Had a reservation for 7pm and arrived at 6.55pm, stood at the door waiting to be seen by the staff who clearly knew we were there but ignored us for 4 minutes. (The restaurant was barely occupied) when we were eventually seated, the waiter wasn't welcoming. Seemed angry about something and that came through in his interaction with us. Another waiter came over and he was friendlier, but overall the atmosphere was quite dull. My partner ordered prawn and monkfish curry, which she said she enjoyed... I ordered the sirloin steak and was told there was no potato gratin, so had to have chips or rice. I opted for rice, bad choice. It was hard and stuck together like it had been reheated. Considering the cost of the bill (€93) I'd say the food was very sub standard and massively overpriced for what you get. The annoying thing is I was really looking forward to coming to the restaurant but left extremely disappointed. Clearly relies on the ocean views rather than the service and food.   Beautiful setting overlooking the sea. Staff were extremely friendly, good fun and informative. We had bread and tuna pate follwed by the Sea Bream (the cost of which was calculated by weight) and our friends the Cataplana for 2 followed by delicious Chocolate Mousse and homemade chocolate and caramel cake served with vanilla ice cream.   Surprised at the rating of this place. At 10% capacity, off-hours, shoulder-season and were denied table with ocean view because they didn’t want to bother separating the tables. Said that’ve walked all the way up for the ocean view but to no avail. “No time for that” they said.   It's OK not the best food we have had in the area but was the most expensive. The setting and views are very good but doesn't much the premium paid. They showed us fish that we chose then told us it had sold out only to see it displayed to the next customer and we also walked past the cold displayed fish to find more sea bream so i don't quite understand what the endgame was other than cost saving. I usually say you get what you pay for unfortunately this is not the case here. The staff were pleasant but there was a gentleman ranting and raving in the bar area that I think may have been the owner as the staff seemed on edge. A meal for 2 was €140 for 2 starters and 2 mains and 2 soft drinks. I would not be bothered if the food was to a better standard. I don't think I would go back as there is so many better options. Thank you for the response but I think you have missed the point. the main problem was not the price its the quality and customer service.   Even one star is too much. I’m not one to complain and often try to see the positive things in places, but this was the worst restaurant experience of my life. Staff is very rude. Me and my partner were there an hour earlier, asking whether we could just have a drink at the bar. The waiter rudely told us no and that we had to wait and pointed to the sand at our legs and that we should clean it (we just came from the beach). So we did. They even asked us to get cash because their ATM didn’t work, so I went down and up the hill to get some. After waiting an hour, it was time for our reservation so we went inside. There, the waiter told us we couldn’t come in because of our ‘beach clothing’. I was wearing a dress and closed shoes. My partner still wore his dry swimming trousers, a shirt and sandals. We didn’t have anything else with us and with loads of people behind us, rudely were being sent away. We felt very humiliated. If they had told us this earlier, we could have gone back to the hotel and still change, but they never did. We waited an hour there only to be sent away. This ruined our night and we are never coming back here again and are definitely not recommending it.   Go for the view not the food. This restaurant has had several reinventions over the years with swings from awful to sublime. Last year was the latter.   We came upon Mar d'Fora quite by accident and what a happy accident it was! We enjoyed a lovely, leisurely - if a bit chilly sunset dinner on the outdoor terrace with great service and excellent fresh catch of the day. The appetizers automatically brought to the table were much appreciated as we were overdue for lunch. The tuna salad and bread in a paper bag to keep it a bit warm were a big hit. The oysters were incredible. I love that they brought us blankets so that we could stay comfortably outside and provided great service even though we were the only ones on the terrace. I found it interesting, not being experienced in such things, that they read us the fresh catch fish options including the specific weights appropriate to share between two people.   I do not recommend it. If you are looking just a place for the view, you can enjoy it from the beach or the viewpoints. We were surprised to see that this was the first and only place in all Portugal where people were unkind and overbearing. This is a country of consistently warm, friendly, and welcoming service. Mar d'Fora is a stain on the country and the beautiful town of Carvoeiro. The view they offer is not worth it, especially when you have dozens of other wonderful dining options in town and the surrounding region.   It was incredibly hot during our visit - so much so that we were all quite uncomfortable. The restaurant could combat this with some big fans or by raising the shades on the side of the balcony to increase air flow. The food was mixed reviews. I had an incredible seafood risotto that was simply perfect. The portion was huge and the seafood was very fresh. Family members had the steak Portuguese style which was OK, and other family members had the pasta which was blah. Would have loved to see a few additional local specialities - sad to see no grilled sardines, octopus stew, beef a casa, or bacalhau options. Staff was so-so. Some were lovely, others made home feel rushed. I’d rate this place a 3.5-4.0 depending on your food choice.   The manager of Mar d'Fora is a very aggressive man who thinks it’s acceptable to grab female customers and push them around. Last night he did this to me in front of my friend and our two children. It was absolutely shocking. The police were called and the incident was recorded. We have been advised by the police that what he did is considered assault in Portugal and that we should make a formal complaint at a police station. I’d heard that the place was worth a visit for the view but not to expect much from the service or the food but I certainly didn’t anticipate this Even one of the policemen said to us ‘there are better places to spend your money than here’.   Its a superb restaurant.We had no language problem almost all the personal speak English. The personal is very friendly and nice, i have never met a personnel as friendly in a restaurant.   Wow! Overlooking Praia do Paraiso it has a stunning view, but food and service are also excellent! We visited early evening with our young son and got a very friendly welcome. The service was impeccable, being attentive bit not over familiar or intrusive. The food was astounding. Even as as non sea food eater I loved my goats cheese starter and steak main. My husbands octopus and sole was also great from what i tasted and he raved about. Even my 2 year old ate ALL his breaded fish- astounding for him!!! It's definitely not the cheapest restaurant around, but compared to the restaurants in the UK it offers amazing value for money for the best meal we've had for a very long time!
