Visited today and this is now officially my favourite restaurant! It definitely is a house of wonders. The choice of plant based meals (no meat or fish on offer) is amazing and the menu is created, based on seasonal availability. They prepare one of each meal, every day, for customers to explore on their 'visual menu' (table of dishes) which gives you a great insight into what you are getting... as well as making your mouth water! We sat on the roof terrace to eat, which was a super spot with plenty of shade, surrounded by all sorts of plants and succulents. There were seats inside too. The decor in the place is just as good as the food - very chic. And the service we received was really friendly, welcoming and prompt. Reasonably priced too. Can't fault it. A strange concept but easy to buy into once you've used the "visual menu" to gaze at what food you'd like. The staff are friendly and informative about what they have on offer. Everything is 17.95eurs which upon inspection seems like good value for money. However once the food arrives as impressive as it looks, the vast majority of the meal is bulked out with salad leaves and nuts. There didn't seem to be cohesive ingredients my wife had the same main meal and the nuts and pomegranate count differed greatly which made me think they just chuck it together. The amount of halloumi was actually pretty funny, quite disappointing, the most smallest slice I've ever seen. Halloumi is cheap to buy and I'm not sure why they skimped on this. Couvert was odd, no information on what you're eating and why. The setting is nice on the terrace, acoustic music and fairy lights after dark. Just sadly felt like it was overpriced for what it was. What an amazing discovery in Cascais. We stopped at House of Wonders for lunch and it was a great experience. The restaurant is very colorful as well as all the food served there. If you are on the cusp of becoming vegetarian, perhaps the colours, presentation - along with the setting of each of these spaces (several choices of floor to share, both inside and outside depending on your fancy) - may set you on the path! I've known Ana for many years and delighted to meet her each time. We have seen her original space grow outwards and upwards as the years have elapsed. I've been here a few times and have always liked the atmosphere, vibe, and decorum. I am not vegetarian and the dishes, as beautiful as they were, didn't manage to change my mind. We came to have dinner recently with a big group of 7 people. The places looks very cozy and has good atmosphere. You can sit on the rooftop (non-smoking), terrace or inside. We sat on the terrace. The waiters were really welcoming and the visual menu is a great way to show the food. We liked the sangrias and the aperols. However, I can’t say the same about the food. Out of 7 dishes only 1 we actually finished and liked - the shakshuka plate. The rest we did not even finish - the food was bland. The pasta pesto was unbalanced and had not enough cheese. Great range of fresh food but some was lacking flavour. My omnivore partner was not impressed. Their "feta" sandwich didn't contain any feta that you could taste; the slaw was sweet; and the tomatoes had a strange dressing. The carrot soup was good. The sangria is by far the best I've ever tasted, they make it with some kind of magic. Food was pretty good (we took vegan options, which they had around 4 different types to choose from), atmosphere of the whole restaurant, terrasse and roof top is amazing. Thw people in service as extra kind. Unfortunately the exchange with the check out person was very off-putting. Fortunately the rest of the stuff was great enough, that it didn't fully ruin the whole experience and I would come again and reccommend the place. With all of these really good reviews I expected more. Food was average but nicely looking as you can see in the pictures. The idea of seeing the dishes before you order is cool but I could totally live without it. The matcha latte was good and the salad variation very tasty. Unfortunately my vegan burrito was dry. Based on that I would give 3 stars out of 5. Since I got a stone in my burrito it’s just worth one star and I wouldn’t recommend that place to friends. Very cool interior in this place, the food is simple and mostly healthy, looks great, but nothing very special about the taste. I felt like one dish was not very fresh. The concept of presenting the samples of the dishes instead of the traditional menu is quite innovative, however I’m concerned about the food waste. Absolutely extraordinary restaurant ! We had a 5 star PLUS lunch here. Each dish was gorgeous to behold and just delicious. The owner was there, overseeing and helping to serve, and she was utterly charming. So much creativity and energy has gone into this restaurant and all its offerings ! Bit of a strange concept. There isn’t a menu. Instead all dishes are presented at a large table. The dishes look good. You can make your choice at that table. When we asked what will happen to the presented dishes at the end of the day , the waitress simply stated that it will be thrown away…..We had dinner downstairs, and at the wall over there was a quote: ‘Don’t waste food…..’ The waiters were kind, but not alert. We got served the wrong food, we had to ask ourselves if there were desserts and nobody asked if we wanted to have another drink. The lady owner wasn’t quite sympathetic and sat like a boss in the kitchen. The vegetarian food we had didn’t contain much vegetables, which you actually expect from vegetarian food. The location is absolutely stunning. Staff and owner are extremely welcoming and friendly. The food is mostly vegetarian but there are vegan options. There is no such thing as a menue. The food here is wonderful, always tasty, great options. We have visited many times and enjoyed the food! The servers are friendly, but we have had a few issues with being made to feel uncomfortable due to their rules about what you can / can't eat and when. This has now happened a few times and as frequent customers, it's frustrating. When you go in to choose your food, there are lots of cakes as well as savoury and when we try to order cakes we're told it's not a good time for cake and coffee, even though we are also ordering lunch items at the same time. I feel this is poor customer service. If customers want coffee and cake as well, this should be OK. If you display it, serve it. I've also sat down and waited for guests to arrive and ordered drinks while I waited, and this was an issue too. I was chased to order food and had to assure them I'd come back in once my guests had arrived. Today we arrived to order some food, around lunch time, we weren't sure what we wanted lunch wise but we knew we'd be ordering 6 cakes and 6 coffees for adults 3 cakes and 3 juices for children and were turned away because it was lunch time and told to come back at 4pm.... if you add up the cost of order, (not including that we probably would have ordered some lunch as well), I'm guessing that's about 40 to 50 euros on coffee and cakes?! .. seems unreasonable to turn us away. We like this place, we'll be back again. But we really feel like House of Wonders needs to relax when it comes to when and what people order. Not gonna lie I was disappointed by this place. You pay relatively high restaurant prices for a place where you have to wait in line to order at the cash. The visual plate concept is a little strange, especially in the evening when the plates have been sitting there all day and the veggies look soggy and smelly. I personally rather see the list of ingredients rather than have to ask for each one. The food itself was okay. Fresh, varied, but strangely mixed together. No thought put into the combination of ingredients. As if their goal was to make a nice looking plate rather than a well balanced flavourful plate. The cold gaspacho soup was good. Green juice was good. Dessert was bland. Seems like a Instagram tourist trap restaurant rather than a proper vegan restaurant as I have found in Lisbon (the food temple for example where I paid less and ate much better). 3 stars for the cool looking location. Although I am not a big fan of green food I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and flexible the staff was to make my green dish not so green :) After reviewing some 1star comments I can only say that the wait time is a bit longer but because I’m on a vacation I’ve got nothing but time. Very cute place to have lunch or dinner! You can choose from a large variety of dishes that are all vegetarian. Everything we ate was very delicious and I can highly recommend going there if you crave something healthy and fresh. I've never written a review of a restaurant, but House of Wonders compelled me to! Truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and one of the best restaurants I've ever been to on my travels. We were immediately drawn in by the decor, particularly the funky mix of colourful seating surrounded by plants on the roof deck. Then the visual menu hooked us. I've never experienced picking what I want to eat from a counter of sample dishes. Fantastic concept, and the food didn't disappoint, especially for the price. The whole restaurant is awesome! We were here for lunch and because it was so great we came back in the evening. Before you order, you can see all the dishes on a big table. After you have ordered, they make it all fresh for you. It‘s perfect because you can see what you get. Meal and drinks tasted good, rooftop was cozy and had a nice view. They forgot to bring us water when we asked for it. Curry came hardly warm. Heard a lot about this place, but it was underwhelming. More than 1 employee seemed annoyed at our arrival. You know that feeling as if they're annoyed another tourist has come in 😅 There's is no menu but you can see all the dishes inside and choose. This means you get information on 15+ dishes in 90 seconds. Personally I need a little time to choose and I like to do so in my own time (not while a queue of people is lined behind me and I already forgot what the first dish was that they explained). The food looked really good/pretty, but all vegetables were very soggy/soft. Like baby meals. Not sure if they were already pre-cooked and just heated up? But it tasted that way. Oh and coffee is only served from 10-12. Not a huge problem, but if you come for coffee it's good to know. The place looked beautiful! The style is as good as all reviews said. I really liked the concept that you enter the restaurant and you can look at the dishes and choose what you want after having seen the composition of lovely colours and flavours. The roof top is incredibly sweet, cozy and full of plants. We ordered the beetroot lasagna and the vegetarian sushi, both amazing. We highly recommend the beetroot lasagna, it was something impossible to describe but the taste was spectacular! We also had freshly made juice with mango and lime, it was perfect. Such a unique vegetarian restaurant. The concept is basically going inside and ordering a large plate or a small answer medium plate combo. Then ask for whatever juices or drinks you want. The orange drink was delicious. The meal itself was one of the best salads I've ever had. Sometimes it's good to get a break away from the saltiness of Portuguese for and this is that. Wow! What a fantastic vegan restaurant! Not your normal dining experience, as there’s no menu as such, you just look at the dishes on display and pick whatever your eyes (or belly!) desires. I’m not opposed to meat substitutes, but I prefer to eat ‘clean’, so I loved that House of Wonders also embraces this type of cooking. It's a joy to see such love delivered in a dining experience! The beautiful, fresh and delicious meals are exceptional, and the options are usefully displayed and explained before ordering. I liked the simplicity of all the lunchtime dishes costing €11.75. The restaurant and outdoor spaces are gorgeous too, with plants, art and character in abundance. An absolute must visit, the place is vegetarian and although it’s not my usual go to, it is an amazing place, the food is ‘visually presented’ by having actual plates with food out while a staff member explains what is on each dish, before you order and they make your dish and the food is so delicious. We also had the rose sangria, which is truly the best sangria I’ve ever had, so tasty. Finally, remember they have a rooftop, although they have a nice outdoor space on the ground floor, the rooftop is lovely! Loved everything about this restaurant. It already started with choosing our food and drinks. The food is all presented in a visual way and the staff were very helpful in explaining the options as well as letting us taste some of the juices so we could pick the right one. The terrace is very nice and the food is just delicious! This is how I truly like vegetarian food. The taste is wonderful and so the name of the restaurant is well picked. I am not a vegetarian. But I love vegetarian cuisine because it seems healthy to me. We were very hungry and the cafe seemed very wonderful to us. I loved the presentation of all dishes on the ground floor. The portions are unusually large and tasty. The smoothies are delicious. But! I was unlucky to see the process of making smoothies and food. The owners of a delicious cafe !!! Please...make repairs to the kitchen, toilets, dress the cooks in clean aprons and gloves. We ate here last night and can't wait to go back. They have both lunch and dinner with a variety of plates. We got the house made sangria (highly recommended - 1litre for €15) and dinner with two dishes (about €15 each). We saw them bring in the desert and had to have some - it was described as a cacao/coffee cake but was so much more. So much flavour and definitely a must have! We hope to go back multiple times over our trip! Also the staff are all very friendly and speak so many languages and the manager is very friendly. Location: In Cascais, one of the most beautiful places ever. The place: It's awesome. They've got this great rooftop terrace that's bursting with colour - painted tables and chairs and a TON of sun! They're spread across 3 (I think) floors - I believe the first floor has some seats, the 2nd floor is where you order and the rooftop is another spot with seats. The goods: Look, I can't possibly describe all of the vegetable goodness we had because we had two platters worth of veggies. Everything we ate was fantastic. For real. The best part for me, is that each vegetable was bursting with its own flavour - you could taste what you were eating. This is unlike the stuff we get in North America, where food is bland. Our meal was delicious - order anything or everything because you can't go wrong. We also each ordered fresh juice (I had the green one) and they were awesome. Service: Great! Friendly staff and it turned out the owner lived on the outskirts of Montreal for 20 years! Small world. Price point: A joke! 13€ for a ton of food and fresh juice! Back at the top of my list of vegetarian restaurants! Loved going there (early 2024). The visual menu is brilliant; there is no written menu, you pick with your eyes (and questions in my case). 2019:The restaurant is still one of the best vegetarian places in Cascais however there are less options now and the use of herbs and spices is not as strong as before. Perhaps they changed chefs (?) I will be going back and I dearly hope the food pops again. Early 2017: One of the best vegetarian restaurants I have ever been to. The chefs infuse blends of herbs and spices into the food which elevates the taste so much. The concept is also quite appealing as it is farm to plate, fresh.
