  This very popular venue had a welcoming friendly and patient waitstaff who managed to find a table for us despite it being very busy. The cod was beautifully presented and the steak was very flavoursome.   I went to this place on the recommendation of the lonely planet guide. I liked it a lot. I ordered the fish soup, the octopus with potatoes and the chocolate cake. All delicious, the only flaw, if I have to mention one, is that the octopus was a bit hard. The waiters are all very kind, smiling and quick. Highly recommended!   Disappointing. Always wanted to visit this restaurant and when the time arrived the owners refused to let us in because we had a small dog with us. There were a few tables outside, but dogs are not allowed. Honestly sick and tired of this backwards mentally. Owners can choose to let dogs enter their restaurants, so save me the lie of not being allowed because of the law.   Pleasant food stop in Coimbra. Me and my boyfriend were here a couple of days ago (July 2023), and we wanted to share our experience. The restaurant is really cozy, with nice outside tables and a well-furnished indoor area. The service is attentive, yet very very fast (this feature can be a pro, but for us, it was a little bit too “rushy”). Despite that, I must say that the waitpeople were super kind. We ordered bread, olive oil, and olives as appetizers and 2 starters (gazpacho and a dish with tomato sauce, poached egg, and peas, then we had 2 main courses (beef steak and octopus). Finally, we had a chocolate cake. Overall the food quality was good, and we enjoyed it a lot. However, the 4 stars out of five review means we were expecting a bit more for the price we paid. There wasn’t a real innovation or gourmet experience. I would say it is the right place to enjoy a typical portoghese dinner.   Got the octapus and cod, octapus was rubbery and very tough, the cod was super salty and in the middle a little bit undercooked, we were with a small baby and did not want to make a fuss and wait to get something else. I really wanted to like this place from the reviews but unfortunately I do not recommend it. The staff were awesome.   This place was absolutely amazing. The codfish was heavenly. The waiter was really kind and funny (giving my boyfriend's dessert to me because he knew I would end up eating it anyway). I will definitely come back here if I'm ever in Coimbra again because I will need to try the rest of this menu. I recommend it to everyone coming to Coimbra.   Ordered the Steak medium. Steak came raw the first time, and after being cooked again it came with no seasoning. The fish dishes were good but avoid the steak. Expensive and no taste.   After reading the 5 star reviews, we were looking forward to singe good seafood but were disappointed. The seafood soup was thin vegetable soup with a few pieces of seafood floating in it. The salmon and cod dishes were ok but no different to what we would cook at home. The putting desert south the lemon sauce sounded delicious, but three was less then a teaspoon of sauce on a small serve of pudding and a but of fresh fruit on the side When asked if everything was ok, my partner decided to say something about our disappointment. To be fair, they deducted the cost of the soup and salmon which was good of them, but if you are looking for a 5 meal, I suggest going elsewhere.   First of all, our expectations were very high due to all the positive reviews. We booked in advance, we recommend doing so to be sure to get a table. The place is easy to find, near the Santa Cruz church. There are a selection of 7 dishes for each course, that's why the restaurant is called Sete. There are options for gluten free and for vegetarians. We had as a starter a Bacalhau salad (more lettuce/leaves than Bacalhau/cod fish). For the main course, we ordered lamb shank, salmon with squid inked couscous, and rice with wrapped spicy backed sardines. The main courses were tasteful and in a reasonable portions. We had for dessert a chocolate cake with strawberry coulis (boring and pretty small portion). The owners could be more welcoming and friendly, no suggestions from the service.   When you visit Coimbra you can’t skip Sete. While our roadtrip trough Portugal we visited Coimbra. A local recommended Sete and we didn’t get disappointed.   We liked everything about this restaurant! A local friend recommended this place and it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had all year! Food, service, and ambiance ALL on point. Tucked away in the corner, unpretentious, welcoming and completely packed (highly recommend calling to reserve a table but saw walkins were welcome too- we always just call ahead as we had the pram with us). The crunchy sardine dish was perfection! Thin crispy Sardine “egg rolls” on top of sardine risotto was such a culinary delight! I know egg rolls and I have to say it was one of the best I’ve ever had w/ a tiny spicy kick (Europeans will think it’s a bit more than tiny 🌶)! We came from Aveiro and decided we will definitely be back again! Loved the pea & poached egg and the pineapple carpaccio w/ coconut ice-cream for dessert!   We had dinner here last night and we would thoroughly recommend it. The food was delicious. The menu has seven choices of starters, mains and vegetarian options. All our meals were prepared to a very high standard. The waiters were informative and extremely helpful. We really liked the way the desserts were matched to a port.   A lovely little restaurant just off the square. We were greeted by very friendly staff who spoke English and provided excellent service. I had the poached eggs which were very flavourful, followed by the steak which was perfectly cooked. The new potatoes stuffed with cheese were amazing, I will do them like this at home. Finished off the meal with a rich and tasty chocolate cake with some excellent port. They have good cocktails too, I had a nicely mixed caipirinha before my meal. Although I didn't try them, they have a large selection of vegan meals which looked very good too, so anyone can eat here. Overall, a very good meal and experience. I will definitely come back if I visit Coimbra again and highly recommend this place if you want to avoid the tourist traps and have a nice meal in the city centre.   Just had our most delicious meal in Portugal! I had the Lamb shank in red wine with chestnut purée, and Evan had the Traditional “Bairrada” suckling pig pie with pineapple chutney. The service was unbelievably amazing! And the staff as well. They offered me a gluten free menu and the waiter was super friendly helping me understand the Portuguese cuisine! After eating we were stuffed, so as Canadians we asked for the bill to leave. The waiter came back with the bill but also two glasses of Port wine 😮. I'm not sure if he thought we were unpleased?   I am so disappointed. The service was great, very helpful and attentive. But the food.... it just kept getting worse, the cold gazpacho soup had turned and was fizzy, the chef took it back and said it had gone bad. The vegetables were not fresh, the Mushroom dish was bad, the steak was bland and it had come raw (asked for medium). We read all the good reviews and were so excited and the waiter said it was unusual that all our dishes were bad. Maybe it was just a bad night?   Great service - terrible food. We were so excited when we saw this restaurant had tons of vegetarian options. The waiter was great and recommended great wines. The food was very bad. We ordered the gazpacho which had turned. We sent it back and the waiter confirmed that it had spoilt. The sangria and fish soup were delicious. The 2 vegetarian dishes we ordered were not good. The mushroom dish was very weird, kind of gummy and the flavor was not good. They used dried Chinese mushrooms and the flavor profile did not work at all. The chickpea dish was bland, there was no flavor at all. The base was lukewarm mashed sweet potatoes with no flavor with sautéed cabbage that was old and limp and par cooked broccoli and cauliflower that tasted like it was days old at the grocery store. All that with a can of chickpeas thrown on the side. The waiter was excellent and understanding and they attempted to bring us a free desert however it was just ok as well. Tudo isso com uma lata de grão de bico jogada à parte. O garçom foi excelente e compreensivo e eles tentaram nos trazer uma sobremesa grátis, mas também foi ok. Service was exceptional - attentive, calm and efficient, and the food&drink were up there too.   Just amazing. The (vegan) food i had, the ambiance and kind hospitality by the staff. Prizes are more western european but worthy every penny. Fresh and made with passion and love. You can feel and taste this. Same for the “big” wines they serve. I did not find this place on recommendation, it was just around tge cornet at the cafe where i listened to Fado music;) but i will recommend it now! 5 stars (Traduzido pelo Google) Simplesmente incrível.   Sete Restaurant is a small restaurant right near Café Santa Cruz. It is almost hidden by the church but this may actually help to provide a more relaxed atmosphere in one of the most noted places in Coimbra. The dishes were somehow different and more innovative comparing to other restaurants in this area. Overall, a simple menu with delicious dishes served in good portions. The complementary cod salad was a nice surprise and the dessert (another offer) with pineapple carpasio with coconut ice cream was a great way to end a delicious meal (and hard not to finish). I felt very welcome and although it has been opened for only a few months and there is a need to impress I have no problem recommending this place, either you are visiting Coimbra or a local.   The atmosphere is very cosy and tidy. The staff know English very well, so there was no time wasted in understanding each other. For two people you would need to spend around €40, However the portions are snall, but it will make you full. Considering it's located in the centre and the food the price tag is well suited. The quality of the food was excellent and was well prepared.I order a medium rare steak, in Portugal they usually go off and go for well cooked, however they prepared it medium rare. The staff is also very flexible, one of my friends kids didn't want anything from the menu and so he ordered French Fries and they delivered. This was very astoundig, and the Fries where handmade. Lastly the staff noticed that one of my friends was sad ( she was very tired), so they gave her a desert for no extra charge, which was very surprising. I would recommend this place if you don't mind spending about €40 for two people.
