  A bit small place (since we came with 10 people at once), but nonetheless the service and food was amazing. Appreciated that they charged our US credit card in Euros, without the 2 trick "euro-to-dollar exchange" questions that the credit card machines of many Portuguese restaurants queried us with; this was worth half-a-star. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Attractive, intimate interior. FOOD: 3.0. - 3.5: Chestnuts with caramelized onions. Reminded us of Japanese nimono, and the chestnuts made it interesting. - 3.0: Figs with Port wine. Not sure what the separate small bowl of sauce was for, as it tasted the same as the sauce in which the figs were served. - 2.5: Aubergine gratin, with pasta noodles.   Well that was a very odd meal. I ordered the “degustation” and it ended up being one kind of cheese, hummus, beets in watery yogurt (with pistachios) and roasted chestnuts. It seemed very unbalanced (very oily and rich, nothing fresh, light or even green!) and kind of thoughtless - how are you supposed to get the yogurt out of the cup if you don’t get a spoon, and why does the hummus not come with bread? Look at my picture - in the dish with the beets, it’s pure liquid from the white stuff down. How do the staff here think you’ll eat that?! I ended up ordering a bread basket so I’d have something to put the hummus on, and to soak up the yogurt from the beets, and I’m not joking when I say I thought they charged me €2 for two TINY slices of plain white bread. Basically two slices of baguette (each cut in half to make four pieces, but still only two tiny, thin slices)… but then in the end it wasn’t on my bill. So I don’t know if that was the €2 bread basket and they didn’t charge me for it or if that was the free bread everyone should have got and they forgot my bread basket. I was at a table on the sidewalk so I basically didn’t get any service, so I can’t speak to that element of the meal. Overall I would say it was overpriced and just… weird. Acabei por pedir um cesto de pão para ter algo onde colocar o homus e absorver o iogurte das beterrabas, e não estou a brincar quando digo que pensei que me cobraram 2€ por duas PEQUENAS fatias de pão branco simples. Basicamente duas fatias de baguete (cada uma cortada ao meio para fazer quatro pedaços, mas ainda assim apenas duas fatias minúsculas e finas)… mas no final não estava na minha conta. Então não sei se era o cesto de pão de 2€ e não me cobraram por isso ou se era o pão grátis que toda a gente devia ter recebido e esqueceram o meu cesto de pão. Eu estava em uma mesa na calçada, então basicamente não recebi nenhum serviço, então não posso falar sobre esse elemento da refeição. No geral, eu diria que foi muito caro e simplesmente… estranho.

  We ate here twice.. The food is really good... Cod.... Duck... Pasta with vegetables... But the mushroom was kinda tasteless.. Was surprised as all the other things tasted good.   The ambiance is nice, and the server was kind. The restaurant is very small, so booking is recommended. As for the food, the portions are very small for what is charged and vegetables were not as fresh as one would want, given it's a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Most dishes were also bland in flavoir.   The food is really good! Portions are xlarge. I suggest to add brown rice to the menu to serve with mushrooms "feijoada", and the peas with poached eggs. These dishes have a lot of sauce which is good to eat with rice. We can opt to eat these with bread but it is not gluten free. Moreover, if we opt for bruschetas we end up eating a lot of bread.   Great little Vegan tapas restaurant up an alley from the entrance to the old town. It's uphill a little but not much. Try the local gin and a dark beer or two. The food is very similar to the Fangas a few doors down. The chestnut/onion dish is lovely as is the bean stew. These are large tapas so perhaps two choices will be enough for most people.   This restaurant was a true gem. We stumbled upon it by accident. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming. Eric was our waiter and we picked a wine together. It was a wonderful red from the Duoro Valley. I’m a bit of a wine snob. This red, Bahamas Grand Reserve was spectacular!! We had the White Bean Stew, Ham and cheese crositini and the mussels.   My first review didn’t get posted so here we go again. we were served almost a whole can of tinned green peas with tomato sauce…. The dish was edible and egg on top was fine, but it was not good! Other veg tapas were just okay sadly. Sides, wines and service were all great and their salads and desserts looked fancy even though we didn’t have any.   I rarely bother writing online reviews but this was so worth it I had to. The food itself was so tasty, I only stayed in Coimbra for one day but if I had found out about the place sooner I would have eaten there twice in the same day. It's a great price too. I highly recommend the egg cocotte and figs in port, this with a beer only cost me 11,80€! It also has a ton of vegan options. Go there with a couple of friends and order as much as you can, I had trouble picking the different foods myself! The place is tiny as it's the fully-vegetarian sister restaurant to a bigger Fangas next door, so the staff was only one cook and one waitress, but they did great and the waitress was super kind and even spoke English AND French incredibly well.   To eat here it is the best cuddle ever! The position is awesome, the room where to eat is perfect and the waiters are awesome. You can find the menu in your language and for every info needed, a waiter will be ready to answer you. Alex was our waiter and he did an outstanding work. He suggested us the best typical dishes to try, keeping in mind that we're from Italy (so no pasta, cheese or sausages, because we yet have it at home). We had the chestnuts with caramelised onion, then a pepper stuffed and a codfish served on a bed of hummus. To end the dinner we had the home made dessert with a glass of Porto wine. A glass of wine, one tomato stuffed with ricotta, and about 8 figs, cost me €15,60. Maybe I ordered wrong, but I didn't find the food to be good. Specifically, the tomatoes were the worst I have eaten-- there was absolutely no flavor. Worse than the slices subway puts on its cold cuts.   Very overrated in the opinion of my group. The peanut noodles were particularly bland and basically looked like a pack of super noodles with some chopped veg on top. Cannelloni with broccoli was ok but nothing special. Aubergine gratin was not cooked properly. Garlic bread felt very cheap and lacked flavour.   We found this place more accidentally but we could not have been happier. In Portugal it can be difficult to find vegetarian options but this place only serves them. Ines from Fangas's staff went out of her way to be kind and welcoming to a lost foreigner, and had great recommendations. She even took the time to explain the meaning of Fangas, and the origin regions of the wines on the menu. I felt very welcomed and this was a great experience.
