  Lovely people and a warm welcome but the food (for me) was decidedly average, they were out of several dishes (and I was the first person seated on a Sat night) and prices for mid Portugal—for what you get—struck me as just average. I want to like them more…but I can’t in all honesty recommend.   Be prepared to wait. Food was ok but there is just one person cooking in a tiny kitchen. We had one day in town and spent an entire afternoon waiting at this place. Waiting for a table, waiting to order, and waiting an eternity for the food. Missed out on other things in town because of the wait here.   Nice meal and friendly service. Decent price too. Plenty of Vegetarian dishes, but I had the broccoli and chorizo pasta (very delicious). I can't fault this restaurant for anything. Very atmospheric as well. Tables are small and cramped especially if there are two people. But that's part of the charm and size of the place 😁 The waiter Leo was Supremely helpful and friendly.   This restaurant, right next to the Se Velha, has become our "Go To" place, when we want to show our visitors some of Coimbra's charm. The food is always good, unique and different of other places.   I am happy someone tried to do something alternative in Coimbra, but the lunch experience was terrible. We arrived and asked for what they recommended, or what's fast. The waiter told us the salad was a good choice. We chose one, and after a while he comes back that actually they are out of that salad. We chose another. After a while he said actually they are out of all the salads. 20min passed and we still didn't get our drinks. In the meantime, the electricity went down twice. Then one of the dishes comes, but the other doesn't. Vegetables were not fresh (seasonal) but from a frozen package. The whole thing was chaotic and it's definitely overpriced.   Food was very tasty and the waiter was super nice! The tables are a bit in the back, don't confuse the larger table section from the neighboring restaurant for Maria's. We even ordered some to go to take back for companions who weren't with us for lunch. The sardine on toast, cod on mushroom, and tomato eggplant and cheese were all very yummy. They made mistakes in taking the order, all the dishes came at different times and when 2 of the people already had finisched their dinner, the other 3 didn't received their food yet. Instead of apologize the waiter started screaming and he turned to me with an arrogant and aggressive attitude. The food is average but the service is REALLY BAD. Avoid this place.   This was the worst restaurant experience I had in Portugal, possibly in my life. It was recommended to me as a vegetarian restaurant, but the food was bland (spiced only with salt and pepper), expensive, and half the menu was unavailable. Vegetarian options were limited and uncreative. The server was not welcoming and the table and menu were dirty. I hope this was just a one-off bad day, but my experience there left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and metaphorically) and I felt I had to warn fellow vegetarians - there are other options in Coimbra! The food we got instead was small portions, lacked flavour, and seemed like the sort of thing I would throw together myself if I didn't have much in the way of ingredients and didn't really feel like cooking.   Although authentic, not a great experience. Very small shop which might be considered cute but the tight space with the small table was uncomfortable. May have been husband and wife or brother and sister team, which i respect and cheer for but they didnt seem motivated to impress the patrons. Pasta i ordered was bland and not much flavor at all. My wife said her sardine over bread was good. Effort could have bumped a star but maybe they were tired of tourists for the day.   Normally I'd give it 4 stars. My bacalhau on bread was amazing, but my friend's "burger" was mediocre and dry. The issue I had is that we ordered beers for like 2 bucks each, and the waiter was like "fine I'll get you those", but in the end they charged us 4.5 bucks each because they didn't have the normal beer anymore, and somehow forgot to tell us.   Boy, oh boy, I don't even know where to start. We were initially lured in by reading all the good reviews about this place. Well, we waited for 20 minutes to get the menu, then 1 and a half hours (!!!) to get our food and still ended up cancelling one dish because it took way too long. And I mean yeah, the place was pretty full but for almost 2 hours that we were there, I kid you not probably only like 2 people got their salads and couple of desserts which are meant to be prepared a day before. Soft cheese on cheese plate was unedible (and it took one hour to get the cheese after ordering), house wine was subpar at best. Both sausages that we tried were pretty oversalted and portion size was small to say the least (on picture you can see one of the sausages) Fair to say that this is exactly the definition of tourist trap, please don't repeat our mistake and just avoid this place altogether. Ambas as salsichas que experimentamos estavam muito salgadas e o tamanho da porção era pequeno, para dizer o mínimo (na foto você pode ver uma das salsichas) É justo dizer que esta é exatamente a definição de armadilha para turistas, por favor, não repita o nosso erro e apenas evite este lugar completamente.

  Remember they have siesta times!! Google always say they're open all day but restaurants do take a mini break in the late afternoon. Dinner doesn't start/open till 6:30pm so keep that in mind before heading there (: also a very small restaurant with an outside patio. So I recommend big groups to reserve a table.   Just ok. The food was okay but nothing spectacular. We ordered the roast pork and cheese tapas, stuffed mushrooms with bacon, and spicy chickpea salad. The salad was not spicy nor spiced and the roast pork tapas was a pork burger with very tough, unsalted meat.   They know how to drive customers away before they even sitting down. Rude and appalling service -at least from the waiter who was taking care of the outside area. There were only 2 tables taken, at around 9PM on a Tuesday when we got there so looked relaxed enough. (We have a small dog so it always have to be outside for us, but this is not a problem.) When you feel confused and unwelcome like this in a restaurant, then it is a sign not to take the seats but we did, first.   We stayed for 1h30. Not because the food and drink was so amazing that we had to carefully chew to enjoy. We were told that one of the dishes would take 15 minutes and it ended up taking 45 minutes: just a little codfish on a mushroom in the oven. This was one of our 3 tapas. The food itself was ok, but nothing that would justify such a great wait. One of the tapas was incredible - I never though one could make an oven baked egg rock hard and with a skin that felt like plastic wrapping. The kitchen is staffed by students, which would be fine, but in a kitchen you kinda want to have someone who knows how to prep and cook - one of the staff was slicing an onion so horribly slowly and unevenly that going to the dentist to get your teeth pulled out feels less painful. No wonder everything takes so long. The only dish that felt really good was unsurprisingly the one that didn’t require any actual cooking - a fried Portuguese chouriço which would taste good if you ran it over with a truck before serving. I don’t understand the 5 star reviews. This is clearly a tourist trap. You really have to make an effort to eat bad in Portugal, and this place is really trying to provide you that unique experience. The Chickpea and sausage salad was just sausages and chickpeas, no flavouring, dressing, or vegetables. It tasted of nothing. Cod in a roll had some onion in it, but I'd be embarrassed to serve it to close and sympathetic friends, let alone put it as a dish on a restaurant. Seriously, if you're a vegetarian, you're better off with a cheese omlette at a standard restaurant. I can only imagine that the 5 star reviews have been left by desperate vegans keen to big up a restaurant that claims to have a few non meat options than anybody who seriously is interested in food.   This place has a very local feel. We ate the eggplant, sausage and cheese platter and the salad with bacon and cottage cheese which were all delicious. The service is a bit slow seeing as there are only 3 staff members working. Despite that they were doing their best to speed things up and they were extremely kind. The food was worth the wait.   this is a very well hidden tourist trap! based on all the good reviews I was expecting at least to receive food but my dog’s food tastes a million times better than what they serve. they have an improvised kitchen so be aware that preparing the food takes years because they cannot make several plates at once. Prices are waaaay to high for the quality of that thing they call food. We had some mushrooms with codfish and pasta with mushrooms and cream. I believe they used all the salt on the stuffed mushrooms because the other plate was tasteless. the mushrooms were eatable but definitely not worth 10 eur. the pasta on the other hand....they probably sat in water for too long because they were full of water, they had no salt at all and the sauce was actually barely present and it was anyway tasteless as well. the only good thing was a cherry tomato they used as garnish.... I have never ever in my life eaten something worst than those ( and the waiter said to someone at a different table that he recommends these because those with pesto are not that good...)   Had a great dinner at Maria’s with my partner. We both found the food simple and yet very tasty. We very much appreciated the significant vegetarian options (not obvious when in Portugal). The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed, all the staff is young and seem to very much enjoy his work. Everything had an handcrafted and welcoming feeling. I ordered the quiche which might have been good a week ago but was long past it’s best by date. It was also cold, sent it back for a reheat and it was then dried out. My wife has pasta with mayonnaise and spinach. She thought it was awful. The waiter acted as if he were a member of the royal family sent there as a punishment. Bathroom has no toilet seat.
