  You must double check your reservation, especially if you are driving up from out of town. Their website let me reserve for today but the kitchen is closed for two weeks. The website said today and then switched it to a different date after confirming. Other than that, nice views and very loud music.   Terrible service, They will move you from your seat if they see wealthier costumera. The cocktails are made with cheap alcohol and with 3/4 of ice. The music is way too loud impossible to speak with the person in front of you and if you want to see what you are drinking, good luck, there is absolutely no light.   Passaporte Coimbra is the most amazing restaurant! I did not want to leave! We came upon this restaurant by mistake when we made a wrong turn while walking through historic Coimbra. It is located on a steep street with incredible views of Coimbra and the river. The restaurant structure appeared to be a historic home. We asked our server about the history and he told us it was a home owned by a very wealthy individual and later became the passport government office (hence the name). It is incredibly beautiful inside and out. There is a terrace bar to enjoy delicious drinks before dinner. The dinner space is inside one of the cozy rooms or upstairs on an outdoor balcony. I thought a place this beautiful couldn't possibly have wonderful food, too...I was wrong. The food was very good. The flavors were very well defined. While my beef tenderloin was a bit overcooked, I didn't mind too much since it was seasoned so perfectly. I'd LOVE to see the upstairs level renovated for boutique hotel rooms. A comida estava muito boa. Os sabores estavam muito bem definidos. Embora meu lombo de vaca estivesse um pouco cozido demais, não me importei muito, pois estava temperado perfeitamente. Eu adoraria ver o andar de cima reformado para quartos de hotel boutique. Eu recomendo este restaurante e bar!

  Very rude staff. Came here for cocktails, asked if they would make a cocktail not on the menu (Manhattan), they said they would try. It didn't taste right, so I asked nicely if they would be willing to remake it. They declined, and said I was wrong (about the drink that I've had dozens of and they only just heard the name).   Love their tarrace cocktail area! Perfect place to go for a drink before heading out for a meal. It's a sun trap in the late afternoon. Lovely views overlooking the river and the bridges. Although drinks are not the cheapest, but they are very tasty. There is also a restaurant, but it's bit expensive (double the price what you pay in the restaurants around the main street).   I read some unpleasant reviews dating some year back and it seems that this place really listened to their customers. We enjoyed a friendly and helpful service and excellent cocktails. The view is stunning (especially at sunset time) but it can be full very quickly, so it makes sense to reserve a spot before. Drinks are only served after 4 pm but I guess that’s okay if you are not a student who starts drinking at 2 lol.   We wanted a nice spot to watch the sunset. The girl at the entrance told us to wait at least 5 minutes to be allowed to enter despite there were free tables on the terrace. She said this is due to the high number of orders and their need to "maintain quality", which did not make any sense as the bar didn't look crowded anyway.   This place is conveniently located and offers a great view of the river right up in "front" of the city. They accepted credit card payment and give you a numbered card and allow you to sit where you want (along with a menu in English). A device at your table allows you to signal staff (I barely pressed it and my waiter was there). I ordered the daily dish which was a soup and a codfish meal (along with a dish) which were both quite delicious. At the end, you simply take the card to the front and pay. Really convenient!   We were visiting Coimbra and we saw this restaurant when we were walking to the University. We didn't have any previous information of this place, so we decided to come back to have lunch. For sure, the site is inside a beautiful old building and the views are quite nice from its terrace, but honestly, the food has nothing special. So at the end you pay more only for the views and the terrace, but nothing special at all in terms of Portuguese food. I would say even that its quality and quantity are below average of restaurants in Portugal. And the service of the waiters was neither friendly (for example, they did not put us any bread and they never asked us if we needed anything more). The ladies in the entrance in charge of billing are nice but this is probably the only positive thing of the restaurant staff. So we would not recommend anybody to eat there unless your goal is to enjoy the views with a beer or a coffee.   So first with the good things; first, the view is great. Second, the waiters were nice (when we saw them). Now for the bad; we waited at the table to be served for 20 mins before even getting a menu. We then had to wait a further 20 mins for a bottle of wine, then another 25 mins before we had our food. When asking about the wine, the waiter did not know any wines to recommend, even after we indicated we wanted a dry white wine. Our food was extremely plain (my 10 year old sister can create dishes more complex and tasteful). I had some chips with my sandwich, which came out soggy and cold. I asked the waiter for some mayo, it came 20 mins later after I had eaten all but one chip. The waiters were apologetic, but their excuse was that they were very busy (the terrace was half empty). There were two tables which sat down and left after waiting a long time as well (we almost did too). One of the shittiest things is that apparently there is a minimum spend of 5€ on the terrace, meaning if you walk out, they still expect you to pay this. Os garçons pediram desculpas, mas a desculpa foi que estavam muito ocupados (o terraço estava meio vazio). Havia duas mesas que se sentaram e saíram depois de esperar muito tempo também (quase o fizemos também). Uma das coisas mais horríveis é que aparentemente há um gasto mínimo de 5€ na esplanada, ou seja, se saires, ainda esperam que pagues isso. Eu recomendo NÃO vir aqui, a pior experiência em Portugal até agora.

  Nice view but very slow service We targeted the place for the promising view, however we were disappointed with the speed of service. It was very hot day and we got our drinks little bit over 30 minutes since we've entered the place (this is not an estimation, I verified time-stamps on the photos). Additionally in this place you do not pay to the waiter, they rather put everything on the card , and you pay to the hostess at the exit. Since card is issues for every guest and there is minimum charge of 5EUR per card, if only one person orders for whole group you may end up paying extra money for all other attendees. I generally dislike this concept and do not plan to visit this place again. Ladies-room was in poor condition with strong odor and laced soap.   Great views, food Okey, bad service. We got squids that were filled with sand or crushed shells (indelible), which they said they were normal when asked about them (8$ wasted). We tried getting tap water (Coimbra's water is of high quality and don't feel like consuming plastic bottles) which we were refused to on "house policy" grounds and in quite bad, inappropriate manners. Only when I asked for the complaint book at the very end we were given an explanation from the manager, who claimed that they are not allowed to serve tap water to the customers for hygienic reasons. However, they had confirmed that the staff was consuming tap water. If it was not for the views I would not recommend this place: too expensive food for the quality and bad service.   Great view but not so great service. For the price I was expecting more attention to the details. We ordered Erdinger beer that was not cold enough and wasn't​ served on a proper glass. Besides, bad place to go for a coffee because there's a minimum payment of €5/pax, and even if the coffee costs more than €1, which is already a robbery, you'll have to spend a lot more to be able to get out.   Amazing view, amazingly bad food. During our holiday we went for Passaporte for diner. An amazing view over the river, when the sun went down, with candles around us. Sounds quite good, as it was until we received our dinner: the Francesinha. And damn, the contrast with the view couldn't be bigger. It tasted terible. The sauce was saulted water, the fries limp, the bread/cheese/meat were distatefull as well. You could taste that the food came out of a microwave, discrageful.   No star, definitely. This is the worst place we have been in Portugal : it was raining cats and dogs and the lounge area where we were allowed to sit was a corridor where kids were running and screaming. Then the wind suddenly opened a window and were freezing. No heater, no AC in this corridor. Finally it cost us 10Eur for a limonade and a Coca-Cola!!! It is a lounge by the price, that's all. Este é o pior lugar onde já estivemos em Portugal: chovia muito e a área do salão onde podíamos sentar era um corredor onde crianças corriam e gritavam.
