  Incredible Portugese style steak. They did a tasty coconut breaded shrimp, alongside a varied specials board. Sadly I didn’t get to try the homemade sweet potato bread (had sold out), serves me right for being late! Portion size was top notch and the service was excellent. Think it says something about how good this place is when you drive there, passing quite a few empty restaurants and this place is full when you arrive.   This place has been one of the best restaurants we have visited during our stay in Madeira, the staff have been lovely to us and even recognised us when we went back eight days later. Generally a nice experience and would definitely recommend to anyone who loves meat (Or who doesn’t love meat, since they have vegetarian options). And also a very good price to portion ratio.   Dont trust the reviews. The espetada was supposed to be medium but arrived well done, dry as a shoe sole. The bolo de coco bread was just one piece of charcoal. It was nothing like the traditional bread from madeira. Just a dried toast, burnt to a crisp. It was one of the worst food expieriences on madeira so far.   The meat cooked in the fire oven is of course the highlight but the waiters and cooks are also super nice and funny people, making the experience so much better! Service was a bit long at 9pm and my dessert was too sweet for me (cheesecake) but I still 100% recommend this place especially after watching the sunset at the nearby lighthouse!   I really don't understand the high ratings of this place, and let me explain why. - We had some pork & beef espetadas, and we believe the meat was not even fresh and it was very dry, the condiments were burnt, really below average. In Madeira we had really good ones in other places, which were also cheaper. - Even the Bolo do caco was not even the proper thing, it was just fried bread. - The salad and baked potato were tasteless. - The sangria was just supermarket cheap wine. - The staff even forgot to bring us cutlery, and had to remind them couple of times about the rest of our order. - Don't get me started about how many flies were there, everywhere on our food, very uncomfortable. We ate everywhere outside in Madeira but never had such discomfort before. The only thing good that we liked was the corn soup, other than that, don't waste your time and find a better restaurant.   This place was pumping on a Thursday night. We had such a nice night and the food blew us a way. The Cajun chicken signature dish, the traditional bread, the crunchy coleslaw and the bbq meat skewer were all amazing. Looking at other people’s plates, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Service was friendly and warm and prices were good too. Was such a wonderful way to finish our trip (then go watch the sunset from the lookout!)   This is an awesome BBQ place! As soon as the dinner time arrives, the restaurant will be full of tourists because here you can get authentic bbq and everything the classic meat lover desires. From meat skewers, to ragout, to Rib Eye Steak you can get lots of delicious dishes for absolutely normal prices. The service was friendly. I recommend coming here and enjoying a great bbq.   Really unengaged service and not welcoming at all. The chairs and tables couldn’t be cheaper and more uncomfortable. The food was average for the size and prices they serve and ask for.   One of my favorite meals in Madeira! I'm Portuguese and love the local food, but after a disappointing sunset at Ponta do Pargo (too cloudy and hazy), finding this restaurant saved the night! Found them on google maps and the pictures of the beans sealed it for me 😄 Our South African server was super nice and friendly.   I wish we had more time to spend here for a proper dinner! We just stopped by for the Bolo do Caco sandwich and some coffee. Hands down the best Prego I had. Delicious meat, fresh veggies and of course the amazing bread! The staff speak beautiful English, are very welcoming and there's some cool tunes coming from the inside. Definitely recommend!   Found this place by accident, when searching for the place where to take coffee break. When we saw the food on other tables, we cancelled planned eveving's grilling and stayed here. Food was delicious. We tried mexican corn soup (5*), pork espetada (5*) and lava cake (3.5*). Staff was very friendly and professional. The place could use some renovating though :).   We were spending a cold, rainy day driving around the island and chose this great place for our lunch stop. The servings were huge! We had the chili which came with rice and the picado with crisp fries. Both were delicious and perfect for the day! Service was friendly, everything was fresh and hot, prices were great.   For a vegan, whose first time it was in Madeira, this restaurant was a gem. We visited a total of three times during our stay in October 2021, once for lunch and twice for dinner. There are plenty of options for omnivores and vegetarians but also some very nice vegan options. The chips were excellent, crispy and fluffy. The Moroccan tagine and Chilli were also excellent, well spiced and very warming. The portion sizes were excellent for the price and we ended up sharing two dishes between three people every time. Service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and willing to answer any of my questions about the food. Will definitely re-visit if ever in Madeira again.   Surprising for so many good reasons. Difficult to classify in the restaurant lexicon: part American Southwest (I had the Cowboy Steak, imposing as the picture attests), part sandwich shop, part fish, meat and potato, "Lava Cake" dessert to die for, so include dessert shop too. Owned by Brits, if I am not mistaken, one of the servers/hostesses lived in London for 18 years, yet all this doesn't take away from a local, family feel. The modest selection of wines is excellent -- nothing pretentious, just basic wines for 10 Euro a bottle. You could pay 100 Euro and not find better wines. We enjoyed a robust, indulgent lunch, 2 and a half hours of culinary delights, wine, several cups of coffee, desserts, the works all of less than 50 Euro, for 2. If you want to cut corners, 2 people could eat well for 25 Euro. Four people could eat for 50 and could just as easily pay 100 if you went on the extravagant side. Which is to say, there are options that fit your palate and your wallet. A not-so-hidden gem -- close to an hour ride from Funchal city center. Se quiser economizar, 2 pessoas podem comer bem por 25 euros. Quatro pessoas poderiam comer por 50 e poderiam facilmente pagar 100 se você fosse extravagante.   I absolutely don't understand the reviews. The food was good, but way too far from exceptional. I was looking forward to some fish meal - yes, there was one plain grilled fish available (ran out of fish soup), then salmon (as everywhere in Europe) and fish and chips. We ordered espetada, we were asked how should it be done, said medium, came rare - if not raw (obviously happened to more people around, as I noticed some of them had it put back on fire). My chicken breast was mostly dry and with burnt marinade on it. True, the service was friendly and portions huge. But all in all we ate our food and didn't feel very happy about it.   Really good BBQ food makes this place special. The skewers of meat were deliciously marinated and cooked over open fire for flavour. Side dishes included so good value.   Wow. If you like BBQ at ridiculously reasonable prices this is for you. We had the meat skewers and jerk chicken. All cooked over a wood fire perfectly. With sangria, garlic bread and complimentary Madeira wine it was all under 40 euro. Worth the drive while exploring the island. For value this place had the best meat on the island we had. Generous portions, good variety of potatoes and salad and very good pricing.   We were in this place last week. It is hard for me to understand this good general note of this restaurant, cause the food that we got was uneatable. We ordered beef espetata - the meat was even hard to cut and moreover to was hard to chew it - it was like a gum! It happend to me for the first time that I retunrned the food. First waiter told us only „I am sorry”, only sedond waiter offered us 50% discount. I don’t know if we got unfresh meat or what happend but the final impression from this place was very poor.   We have visited this place several times the last months on Madeira. The good thing is that they never disappointed us and are always very consistent in their quality. Last time we even noticed they had a really nice upgrade at the terrace by repainting all in fresh but warm colors.   This restaurant has become our favourite restaurant on the island. The staff is very friendly and has fun working. The food is unbelievably delicious and flavourful. Definitely try their Poncha as well. The price is very affordable and they speak english. It is a family owned restaurant and they make you feel very welcome. Be aware though that they have limited tables, so if you might go on vacation in a crowded time, maybe reserve a table, or call first. And definitely try the fried calamari (my favourite).   Amazing place for the whole "local" experience. Staff is very friendly and the food very fresh. We went for supper and everything was cooked on the small wood burning stove outside on the terrace.   Our group of five stopped here during our road trip. The staff was super friendly and fluent with the serving. Four of us took hamburgers and they were ok.   This place is a must visit, if you are passing through Ponta do Pargo. They have a VEGETARIAN/VEGAN menu as well as a regular menu! If you have been traveling around the island looking for vegan food, by now you have figured out that not every restaurant is prepared to cater to you. The food here was flavorful and interesting. My Husband who is not vegan was also very pleased with the fish of the day grilled over a wood fire. This restaurant seemed to be popular with the locals and tourists alike. The staff were very attentive and polite. I will definitely be back here😍 I'm delighted to see that more restaurants understand the value of offering a vegan menu.   Happened to stumble on this place after our hike in the area and we have to say it was the best meal so far on the island. The service was very friendly and the food came quite quickly. The crispy mushrooms starter was spot on as were our fish and chips. Shame they had sold out of the lemon meringue pie as I am sure that would have been great too.   Lovely family run restaurant. The food was fresh, delicious, good portion sizes and great value for money. The staff are friendly and fun and their homemade Poncho is a must try 😜 Deffo worth eating here if you’re in the area. The view from the nearby lighthouse is a must too, especially at sunset.   This is a fantastic little restaurant. The food is very good, we had beautifully cooked Espetada and Prego. The bread was crusty and tasty.   Very nice staff, tasty bread but unfortunately meat wasn't good. Ribye steak not enjoyable, big size 600g, tender but not flavour at all. Pork fillet seasoning was too sweet.   Great lunch in this restaurant. One of the first places on the island that seems happy to go outside the box of Portuguese food. They offer all the normal Madeira food cooked fresh on the BBQ on the terrace, but also vegan options, tagine, chilli.... Staff are very friendly and happy to make recommendations.   The same old story: as vegetarians, it's difficult to find a decent meal on the island. O Forno comes to the rescue: 5 veggie dishes to choose from. I had the spicy chili (the only vegan dish on the menu), which was excellent. My travel partner had a potato, beetroot and cheese bake, which she was very happy with. For dessert, I had flame grilled pineapple slices with vanilla oil (they have a large, outdoor wood oven), my partner had red fruit crumble. Both were absolutely delicious. Worth mentioning is the staff: they were super helpful and friendly. They made every effort to make our dinner a good one. They showed us how they grilled the food on the wood stove, made jokes, helped us choose our food. All in all: superb service.   Excellent food, perfectly friendly service, very familiar feeling. We've been there as a group of people, didn't have to wait at all. Update: visited the place again after four years. The service was great, the food as excellent as the last time. Really enjoyed it there. Some of the best food on the island, in my opinion and a better vegetarian (and even vegan, if I remember correctly) selection of foods than anywhere we've been. Definitely a go to!   Honest and passionate Food. The young team seems to enjoy the work in the gastronomy and shares that spirit. The food is simple but smart and well prepared, meat and fish goes one the grill fueled with wood outside of the restaurant. The highlights have been the spicy salmon and the classic "beef on the stick". We asked medium and got medium. Just perfect. The finish have been a very good poncha.
