  We used to order quite often as take away or go in for a nice relaxed dinner. However, I don’t think we’ll go back again. The price to quality ratio went through the roof. We were two people and ordered one starter (the shrimp aguachile) and three tacos (surf and turf, barbecue chicken and pork) - no drinks or dessert. The bill was 65 euros, that’s expensive even for Northern European standards and definitely way too much for what is supposed to be Mexican street food restaurant in a small Portuguese surfing town. For that price we’ve had one of the best seafood and lobster rice we’ve ever tried at a nearby place. It’s too bad because we do like the restaurant vibes and were always well served. The food is not mind-blowing but it’s decent quality. Luckily, there seem to be new restaurants popping up in Ferrel all the time, so plenty of alternatives!   Worst service i have ever experienced in my life! Expect a very rude waiters!!! We make a big reservation for 22 people for a business dinner, and for an error of the waiter, that didn’t even check the command when we order, they forced us to pay extra food that we didn’t have. And then they were trying to put excuses to justify the most aggressiveness, rudeness, and uncomfortable behaviour that i have ever experienced, that for a mistake of the waiter of writing one more burrito MADE THE MOST HORRIBLE business dinner possible, in which we could not enjoy. At the end we just pay the extra burrito that nobody ate and left no tip, because we were intending to give a considerable tip as we were a big table but instead we just have the worst dinner possible.   I came here several times so far and love this restaurant for the great atmosphere, service and authentic Mexican food. In my most recent visit in February 24, I especially enjoyed the tacos and brownie desert! Yummi!!! The waiter was very friendly and attentive.   Genuinely think this could be one of the best meals of our lives. Second time visiting, and from entree to dessert, every single dish we had was delicious and packed full of flavour. Personal favourite was the prawn soft shell taco starter, as well as the lentil tacos. The quac was unbeatable, and we were even given an additional bowl of spicy salsa to try. A good range of vege options too. The margaritas are punchy and zingy. The service throughout the night was friendly and attentive.   This place WAS good. However, we went back now and the service was so slow (even by Portugal standards). The food was so dry and the meat so tough.. if they figure out the meat it could be better as their sauces were actually pretty good.   I was here for the second time. First time was in 2021 and we eat at the bar with the cook, as the restaurant was rather empty. This time (June 2023) I sat on a table. Tacos are really good. I had surf & turf and cochinita. The only suggestion I could have is that cochinita filling was very liquid, moistening the tortilla and taco gets broken, but flavour is amazing.   Good food, when quiet service speed is good, else it takes ages (food and drinks)... Also the manager shouts over the restaurant to the kitchen staff... left a pretty weird vibe. If you go in October as we did, wear warm clothing, they always have the door to the outside open and they wouldn't close it when asked... it was like 15deg out and not open door weather! I'd say this is more for warm summer nights only until they figure out heating or something.   Absolutely hands down the best "mexican" food I've found in Portugal. Sometimes as immigrants we really miss something from our former home. Some good Mexican food was needed and they filled the bill. Get there a soon as they open for dinner because a line of people waiting to get in occurs quickly. No reservations are taken.   We came early on a Saturday for dinner. I wasn’t expecting much but the food was so delicious and tasty. Everything was so fresh. We had the guacamole and chips to start and it was amazing. It was just freshly made and full of flavour. I had a burrito for mains and it was so filling I struggled to come close to finishing it.   Really nice place, can absolutely recommend. Tasty food with a nice Mix. Even many nice vegetarian and vegan choices. You could really see the kitchen stuff cooking their hearts out. Even though the place was completely full, the service was fast and friendly, the food came quick. UPDATE: We went again during dinner time on a Monday night. Only two of us and only 2 other tables and we still waited over 1 hour for our food which was ridiculous.   We asked for a pork taco with a mexican recepie and i actualy hated it. The quantity and quality didnt justify its price. We did complain to the owner and instead of apologising he decided to justify saying that they followed the recepie just like the tradicional mexican recepie. "Some people like it some people dont". Owner is quite aggressive and didn’t appreciate us needing extra time to order his words “ok I’m here all night for you just take your time”, never came back again to our table. The food itself was dry - old El Paso tacos taste better/fresher than food served here. Probably because everything here comes out of a huge freezer in the kitchen. Portions are small, boring and tasteless. The staff also short changed us the money due to be returned when we paid. We tried to call them to this but were ignored - probably because it was done on purpose. Following this visit we were unfortunately very sick. We believe this was due to the poor products served here. I highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs, it’s the worst restaurant I’ve been to in many years.   Great little place, staff were friendly and helpful. The food was simple but delicious. They have a great selection of tequila based cocktails and even their own chili beer. Really nice vibe. I would advise booking if you don't like to wait, we went on a Friday night in August and had about 20 min wait for a table.   Fantastic food and people. Fish tacos were so delicious. They were a little unprepared for a full house so service was slow, but they were very friendly. The atmosphere is like a family dinner on large picnic style tables. Fresh homemade food. We brought our three boys all under the age of 12 and they ate steak and quesadillas.   Lovely food. I had a margarita and it was tasty. My husband had the cheviche and it was amazing! We so had fish tacos, octopus tacos, chilli and quesadillas. Cheviche was the best!!   Pretty much the only joint in Ferrel that I’ve repeatedly visited for the soups and tacos after a surfing session in Peniche/Baleal. Fish tacos are dope. Beef tacos are mad. Nachos were the bomb. Ceviche was incredible. Soup was super heart-warming. (Think chicken soup for the soul) And the churros... simply amazing. Love this place and definitely have recommended it to tons of people.   If you're around Peniche and Baleal, you don't have that much reliable options to eat, specially if you had enough of grilled fish with boiled potatoes. Cartel 71 is one of those few places where one can find great food (mexican food) and amazing drinks (make sure you leave you car at home, please!). Great warm up for that crazy night out or for a romantic dinner with you loved one. Diogo and the crew are great hosts and will make the most to make you feel at home.
