  We ordered the pistachio soufflé for dessert and after waiting approx. 45 mins for it to come out, I asked the waitress to please check on it. She brought it out but after a couple of bites we noticed the inside was completely raw. We called the manager over and he took it back to the kitchen and confirmed that the chef said it was raw and should’ve been left inside the oven longer. It’s amazing to me how such an expensive and high end place could serve a completely raw dish. I wish I could’ve taken a picture of the raw soufflé but the manager took it away before I could. Also the gnocchi had zero flavor. Please be aware if coming to this place. The service is also a little strange - they don’t even let you sit down in your chair before asking you about appertivo or what drink you’d like.   Have been to the place few times now throughout the years of visiting Madeira. Staff seemed a little bit more burnt out compèred to previous visits. But still trying their best to give polite and attentive service. We were rather disappointed by what was presented as chefs amuse-bouche which was very few bland corn pieces, but… we didn’t pay for that, it is just compliments from the place, thus, cannot really complain. Other dishes were nice, pig cheeks I think the best of what was ordered, some were slightly overcooked things, but all nice enough. The place is in great location, has nice views. We just happened to visit on the evening with bad weather and had to run inside after the rain became too strong. Luckily they had spaces to move us in, which allowed us to continue our evening.   A fabulous meal and a really good price. We had the 3 course a la carte own choice which includes drinks for €55. The food was excellent, as was the free flowing wine. Waiting staff were really friendly and helpful. We last came here 10 years ago and remembered it being excellent. Now, 10 years later we still love the place.   A picturesque location for a good meal. Set in a vibrant yellow for this restaurant offers a lovely view with some well made food. The setting is great and seems to be popular for weddings. The food is inspired by local ingredients and has plenty of options. It offers a tasting menu though this is probably a notch below fine dining. That said the food is presented beautifully and it's technically well done. It's got a nice wine list. Staff are nice and capable. There's room to improve but it's not going to disappoint.   The Fort for many years has been our favourite restaurant in Funchal but sad to say this year a bit of a disappointment. The food was fine but the service very lacking. We stood for ages waiting to be seated whilst staff kept walking by as if you did not exist- just “Good evening. Someone will be with you in a moment“ would have made such a difference. Having been seated by the manager we then had to wait 45 minutes before our orders were taken and offered any drinks. There were plenty of staff but none of them ever looked at you. At this restaurant the wine is included and in our many previous visits has flowed very freely but this time I had to go and find the manager to get any red wine as I was three quarters through my duck magret and te wine waiter had not been near. It’s a lovely red in a great spot but the service this year left a lot to be desired.   Really fantastic experience. He price fixed option was well priced with 4 different well paired wines and more than we could drink. As with all meats I've had in Portugal, the Beef Wellington was heavily salted but was very well cooked and an excellent cut. The foie gras was extraordinary, and all of the fish options were incredible. Recommendation for the restaurant...   We have been eating at this restaurant for about 15 years, Covid omitted. It was always excellent, however in recent years they have added more tables outside at the entrance to the Fort and in my opinion the staff cannot cope with the extra covers. We arrived at 7.20 for a booking of 7.30 and we were there 3 hours. We had the special concept menu and I had to ask for a second glass of red wine. Twice I had to ask for a second bottle of water. We waited 10 minutes plus after being given the dessert menu for our order to be taken. Its a shame as this used to be our go to place. Originally this was managed by Cris who has gone it alone and has Cris's and Cris's Place, both have the special concept, both have better service and are slightly cheaper and do not charge €4 extra for "premium" meals, such as lamb. Your glass is topped up when required and the serving staff are attentive and friendly, not run off their feet. Come on Do Forte you can improve. Duas vezes tive que pedir uma segunda garrafa de água. Esperamos mais 10 minutos depois de receber o menu de sobremesas para que nosso pedido fosse levado. É uma pena, pois este costumava ser o nosso lugar preferido. Originalmente isto era gerido pela Cris que fez tudo sozinho e tem o Cris's e o Cris's Place, ambos têm o conceito especial, ambos têm melhor serviço e são um pouco mais baratos e não cobram 4€ extra por refeições "premium", como o borrego. Seu copo é abastecido quando necessário e os garçons são atenciosos e amigáveis, sem perder o equilíbrio. Vamos Do Forte você pode melhorar.

  We had a lovely meal, we weren't sure what to think when we arrived as we were sat in the courtyard as you enter but that really didn't matter in thd end as the food was so good. I had the shrimp to start and was quite possibly the best starter I've ever had it was that good, my wife had the Scollops and Tuna which she also thoroughly enjoyed. My wife had the Lamb Chops for main and I have the Wellington both were extremely nice and we'd have no worries about recommending either. I had the lemon pie and my wife the soufflé, again both were lovely, well worth a visit!   Do Forte was our first best dining experience in Funchal. I had the kataifi prawns, the black scabbard fish and the Mille feuille. I loved them all, but my heart was set to the black scabbard with the passion fruit sauce! A dish made in heaven! Do not miss it also for the great fortress atmosphere!   We came for our anniversary and the day before requested a mixed seafood platter as this is not currently on the menu. The chef specially selected and prepared us a 2 person platter including scallops, limpets, mussels, tiger prawns and octopus. It was absolutely delicious and the best meal we’ve ever had!   A hidden gem! We chose to have the gastronomic tour of 7 courses with wine pairing for 70 euro pp. It was unexpectedly good! We where absolutely positively surprised. The staff was super friendly, the location was beautiful (we sat outside under a tree and there was an artist on guitar playing lovely modern tunes. You couldn't tell from the outside that this was such a great place to enjoy this special meal. The food was excellent. We didn't want to eat the suggestion for the main course (duck) but we could choose anything we wanted. Also the wines kept coming and we expected to pay extra for this. But the price stayed the same. After dinner, a beautifull old timer car brought us to our hotel. It was a wunderful evening and will stay in our positive memories of Madeira for ever!   Unbelievable!!! The whole experience was amazing!! We got picked up in a vintage car and driven down to the restaurant via the Christmas lights! Champagne reception for my wife and I on the roof top followed by the most amazing 3 course meal with wine to accompany each course. The food is unreal!! This time the place felt very different. No atmosphere. No Christmas decorations. The food was ok, but for the price you pay you expect much more. Disappointed. Will not go there again.   The restaurant is currently being held in a marquee and looks like what can only be described as a wedding reception venue. It was very odd and not what we were expecting. The set up felt very temporary, had no atmosphere and the food on the menu was extremely expensive- all starters were €15 plus. I am unsure what is happening as this is clearly not the actual restaurant in the Fort. We decided not to stay and found a far better restaurant in the old town. I recommend you check what is happening before you go to avoid disappointment.   Unfortunately a very disappointing evening - I had booked this place for my mums 50th birthday as a special treat - and although Paul’s pick up in a vintage car was excellent and good fun - once we got to the restaurant, we were shown to tables set up in marquee rather than the fort experience promised. The menu itself was also disappointing - there were limited vegetarian options and the food was very underwhelming. The service was of mixed quality and unfortunately did not match up to the high end prices the restaurant charges - although the staff were all lovely. Overall a disappointing experience and i would not recommend the restaurant for special occasions.   If I could I would rate this zero. Food was very nice but possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. For the money you pay (which is a lot) you don't expect to wait 15 minutes after seating to be asked if you'd like a drink/be shown the menu. You also don't expect that during the meal you have to ask repeatedly to be served (twice we asked three times for the same item before receiving it 30 minutes later). No doubt this was in part down to the fact the Fort had also booked a wedding in which clearly overstretched the staff and also drowned out the Fort musician who to his honour, himself left in disgust as he had had the same problems previously. Finally you do expect clean toilets (less said about those the better). All in all, dreadful and will not be going back. Strongly, very strongly, recommend you do not go there. It was worth every penny! We were picked up from our villa in a beautiful 1920s car, we were taken the scenic route to the restuarant.   Well how disappointing. This was a favourite restaurant but standards have slipped. The service was not as slick as in the past and less welcoming. Overall the food was ok except for the scabbard fish. This comprised small pieces of fish in enormous coat of batter. Not at all subtle. We did mention this to the Maitre d' but the fact the the plate was covered in discarded soggy batter was a clue! I suppose we expected some form of recognition that the menu had not even mentioned batter, so we were ambushed by batter!   Haut Cuisine on a Budget! We had a great lunch for two at the Fort. An outside table sheltered from, but overlooking, the huge Atlantic rollers in the harbour. Stunning scene!   We booked the premium package and we were treat like royalty. The whole experience was amazing. The food very tasty and lovely. The flowers I was given before we left managed to get them hone and 1 week later still look as fresh as when I Was given them. Our private trip round the lights of Funchal was an added bonus.   My daughter bought me a golden package for my 60th birthday. The experience start to finish was amazing. Picked up in an Austin classic car, food and wine included. The food has to be the tastiest I have ever eaten, nothing was rushed the table was ours for the evening, service impeccable, the staff lovely. Ride home in classic car but first a little drive through the city and the driver stopped to take pictures for us. A fantastic package for a special occasion and extremely good value. All the many others servers (wine, water, food runners, bus service) would not even look at my table, much less offer any service.   Booked their 'golden package' over the phone to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything confirmed and told we'd be picked up on the day in the Austin 12 at 8pm. By 8.15 after a no show, I called to be offered a taxi pickup or wait till 9pm for the Austin. After explaining we'd booked the package for the experience and still no apology, even though having our room and hotel details on file, we had to find somewhere else to eat on our special night.   Sat outside just before set set. Quite a beautiful spot. Had to book in advance but spot some walk ins late in the evening. Maybe book to avoid disappointment. Great experience. Didn't opt for the tasting menu as didn't think we would be able to finish it however did seem great value. Staff are great and the food was well cooked and really well presented.   Pretentious restaurant with local menu that is a bit further away from the touristy street and thus much more quiet. The terrace is amazing as you can hear the sound of the waves and they had heat cannons and blankets to keep you warm. The food was quite good but the portions rather small, so make sure to get a starter. The staff was a bit disorganised and thus it took a while to get served. Great food and drinks, but when the meal was finished and it was time to be driven back we were told that the Mercedes wasn't working. Their option was to pay an additional 15€ to be driven back to the hotel in an Austin. Ended up walking back to the hotel...   After reading the fantastic reviews and seeing beautiful photos of the food, I thought this restaurant was going to be something special. Unfortunately it wasn't for me. The food was all very dated (things like prawn cocktail and beef wellington) and tended to be overcooked and under-seasoned. The sommelier didn't go into any sort of detail about the wine, which was disappointing. I think maybe if you really love the sort of food that gets served at weddings and enjoy a classic 70's ambience you'll enjoy this restaurant. If walking here you will also end up walking through a large amount of restaurants with staff harassing you to eat at their restaurant.   My wife and i went here to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary . I can't recommend Do Forte highly enough. It was one of the best meals we've had anywhere and value for money it was probably the best. The concept menu where they pair every course with a wine to match is absolutely first class. The food really is a delight . Beautiful surroundings without being pretentious. If you're visiting Funchal make sure you book a table at Do Forte.
