  This must be the best restaurant in Madeira! From the moment you enter you are impressed by the elegant decor, the tables set with proper white damask tablecloths and napkins and the warm welcome by the friendly staff. The menu is appetising, even for me as a vegetarian. The first time we opted for the €50 Special Concept whereby you choose any starter, main course and dessert from the à la carte menu, accompanied by free flowing wine. It certainly was special. The experience is enhanced by the young, charming and immaculately turned out Maître D, Vitor. We went back a few days later and this time had a main course plus a cheese board, made up on request, plus great wine. Come here for a real treat!   Nice place, great service and good prices. While our large group enjoyed the main dishes, nobody of us sadly liked the appetizers. Everything looked pretty and was nicely arranged, but we wouldn’t recommend the appetizers. The avocado was hard, the fish tasted weird and the ingredients combos were tasteless.   The starters where a bit rough. The tuna tartar was good, but the sea bash starter was also tartar and that was not on the menu that it is raw. In addition, the avocado was rock hard. The main courses were absolutely brilliant and super delicious. Just no idea what they are having with their weird as foie gras (its liver) - I personally hate it, but you can say that you don't want it. After the appetizer and the main course, there was a small dessert which was very delicious. The desserts at the end were ok but the sugar on the crem brulee was not melted fully and the baklava was not what i understand under baklava.   Went twice for a meal . First time excellent. Explained I had severe allergy to certain foods by showing allergy bracelet and allergy card in Portuguese .   Chose here for my dad's birthday as he had requested following a previous visit. Unfortunately this time, it was so hot inside my uncle had to leave due to the heat. We asked if the air conditioning was on and they confirmed it is. It definitely didn't feel like it. Service was great for the drinks and starters, we waited about half an hour for our main courses to be cleared away as by then the restaurant was full and the staff couldn't keep up with every table as well as they needed to. The food was nice and the staff really were as helpful as they could be, they just need more help. I would recommend going here when the weather is cooler, it just isn't pleasant in the heat. There were many other diners having to go outside to cool down too. If the had more staff and got the air conditioning working as expected this would score very highly.   This place is excellent! Reserved a table here through "Thefork" website and unfortunately our confirmed reservation for 1815hrs was not on file.. They aren't open for dinner at that time (and we were 25 minutes early for our non recorded reservation)but they amazingly allowed us in anyway and gave us a complimentary glass of champagne while the kitchen was still preparing for the dinner shift. We ordered the ceviche and foie gras starters and parrot fish and octopus entrees and we were thrilled with how everything tasted...   We were recommended we go to this restaurant by the hotel we were staying at, Quinta da Bela Vista. It was our last night in Madeira and after lots of amazing meals throughout the holiday, we fancied something special for our final night….Chris’s did not disappoint! It couldn’t have exceeded our expectations any more. It was absolutely wonderful. The service was outstanding, the food was to die for and all the extras that were included in the meal were a wonderful touch that made an already exceptional meal even nicer. It was not an expensive meal and given the quality of the food and experience, it was amazing value for money. We loved our trip to Madeira and if we are lucky enough to return we will be going straight back to this restaurant without hesitation.   Cris’s Place is a revelation and I’m so glad we found it on the internet. I can’t believe the quality of this place, absolutely first class. We had the “inclusive” option and boy did it deliver. The only “downside” (hahaha) was the free-flowing drink (Inc in the price) - fiz as a greeting, white with starter, red with the main and desert wine to finish and the glasses were topped up liberally.   Amazing food and amazing service. Foie gras for starter and fillet steak for main. Never tried foie gras before so didn't know what to expect but it was lovely - surprisingly went really well with the chocolate crumble as a starter. Fillet steak was unbelievable, cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I had chocolate fondant for dessert and it was out of this world. Came with ice cream which made sure it wasn't too sickly.   Amazing culinary experience. Can’t recommend it enough! A bit more pricey but worth every penny. The service was absolutely perfect all the way from booking the table via phone, to getting a welcome drink 1 minute after sitting down at a nice table outside, to servers checking in regularly to see if I need anything. I had the tuna tartare and the sea bass and both were incredibly delicious!   3.5 stars. Very nice feel about the place. It’s bright with really nice table settings. However judging by other reviews, including my wife’s, I must have been unlucky. I had parrot fish in black beer tempura which was nice but it was accompanied by some odd black cheesy risotto in a separate dish, which was weird and did not taste good. For dessert I had the “fluffy blueberry hot cake” which when translated properly is a blueberry soufflé. Sounds great right!? It was a solid dark blue colour (food dye?) and tasted of very little but the red currants, mango ice cream and assorted biscuits were fine. They were all sat on a paste of something which was a VERY lurid blue colour - obviously containing food dye. They really should tell people about all the food dye before hand. Service was ok but with zero customer engagement or real enthusiasm. Glad to get out to be honest but my wifes’s prawn and scallop starter and pork belly (why call it piglet?) was very good. Like I said - I must have been unlucky. Apparently there is a full length mirror opposite the toilet in the women’s loo - “no one needs that” - said my wife! (Traduzido pelo Google) 3,5 estrelas.   This is a very nice place to have dinner at. We showed up without a reservation and were quickly offered a table. The three course menu is very good value for money. Almost all of the offerings sounded amazing to me. I ended up having ceviche, which was very good, followed by fillet steak, which was excellent and among the best I have ever had. The wine pairings are nice. Service is caring, professional and very friendly. They even offer a shuttle service to get you home safely. I was very impressed with the quality of food and the service.   The decor and service here is excellent. We arrived and were greeted with a glass of bubbly which was a lovely and pleasant surprise. We ordered bread as a starter but the main highlight was an amuse bouche of quail egg which was delicious. I had the duck leg which was lovely although the reason I've not given 5 stars is whilst they kindly substituted mash for potatoes for me they gave me two small potatoes. Whilst I will admit I probably like more potatoes than the average person this seemed very miniscule for the amount of meat I had. The presentation was incredible and partner had pork belly he loved.   This was our first visit and we were greeted and taken to our table straight away and offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. The staff were all very young, but able to answer all of our questions. It is concept dining or a la carte, we chose concept. The food was presented beautifully and had great flavour. My husband had duo of tuna, which he didn't really like, so we swapped and I loved it, raw tuna is not for everyone. I had chosen the game, which was delicious and he thoroughly enjoyed that. For mains we had black mouth fish and pork belly, both were excellent. Before the starter there was an amuse bouche and between the starter and main a lovely lemon sorbet. I was a little disappointed with my dessert, which was the trilogy of chocolate, as I was expecting something different, but it was still very nice. The kitchen very kindly did my husband a cheese plate, which was not on the menu. The wine and water were free flowing throughout. Coffee and madeira wine finished the meal off. I would highly recommend it. The concept menu was €45 and I think it was excellent value for money. They even offer collection and return trips in their own minibus. The food plating was stunning, lots of photos of artistic dishes taken by our older group, and the flavour matched the beauty. Will certainly go again.   WOW! I'm just back from a week in Madeira and was fortunate enough to be able to book a table in my favourite restaurant and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was exquisite and the staff so friendly, attentive and helpful in particular Roberto and Vitor. We had such a lovely evening with great food and wine.   One waiter at lunch with slow service. My wife ordered the pork belly on chestnut purée and was interested particularly by the use of chestnut. It came with potato purée as the kitchen had no chestnuts. Very poor not to have told us this when we ordered the dish. Poor information also ran to the dish of the day, which I later found included pudding and coffee, so this was undersold by the waiter! The food was good.   The food was lovely, the drinks were always quickly topped up. I had a good experience. The one thing that stood out was the fish tank … these poor fish were subjected to crowded conditions. They are depressed and it’s easy to see. I hope someone from the restaurant sees this. Please separate these fish and give them appropriate living conditions. The amount of fish in the small place is inhumane.The fish are lifeless and in view whilst eating, which makes their sadness so much more visible.   FINE DINING whilst on Holiday! There is a first for everything... My husband and I came here whilst holidaying in Madeira and WHAT A TREAT! The service, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere. This restaurant really knows how to give you a night to remember. The meal was EXQUISITE and so affordable. I only wish we had found this place earlier on our trip and we would have 100% returned. If you're in Madeira on a couples holiday this is definitely a place to visit - such a treat! We were treated to complimentary tasters from the chef, the wine was perfectly matched to our courses.   Great food. The venizon was beautifully cooked and it worked amazing with the sauce and sides. The salmon was also perfectly done and seasoned. The staff here is very professional, they served two glasses of sparkling wine and a small starter for both of us, from the house. 5 out of 5 without a doubt. Try it. Just finished eating here for the second time hoping that they will bring the same perfection to our plates. They didn't. They were beyond perfect this time if that's possible. The fillet steak with foie gras, wild mushrooms and pepper sauce was nailed to perfection by the chef. Again, they offered a bunch of stuff on the house which is always nice. Also, they went out of their way to help me setting up a table outside as I wished even though they were fully booked. So, i have to say again: amazing place, you must try it!   We were here on a short holiday and wanted to visit some nice restaurants. We came across this restaurant and wanted to give it a shot. We had amazing food and experience. For our appetizers they poured us a very gentle medium dry white wine. I am not a great fan of white wine but I really loved this one. It's a pity I forgot the name of the wine. For the main course I had the risotto with mushrooms and they decorated it with edible little flowers, I loved the presentation of this course. They were very quick with serving the courses.   The restaurant was a bit hard to find. But once found never forgotten. Great fine dining experience. Fantastic staff and so, so delicious meal. We had the menu of the day, €40 per person, a three course meal plus selection of wines with each course followed by coffee. Would highly recommend and pre book a table as it is very popular. But, when waiter has been informed, he didn't have any reactions and he didn't try to fix the situation or at least try to apologize for the trouble.   We visited on a Sunday evening with high expectations based on the online reviews. The reviews are so positive that I did wonder if we'd gone to the wrong restaurant. First the pluses: nice interior and good service. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment. We both had tuna ceviche to start. But it wasn't a ceviche at all, the tuna had not been marinated/cured in citrus juices. Instead, the tuna chunks were on a very sweet mango sauce with some fruit mixed in (even a dried orange slice). Mains were spinach ravioli (in a stodgy sauce) and mackerel (ok but unexciting and it could have been so much more). For dessert we tried the creme brulee, which meant some restaurant theatre (sugar is caramelised at the table using a hand held torch). The creme brulee was fine, but I'd rather it was stuck in an oven and done properly. Only the house wine (white and rose) was available by the glass and it was not good. A lot of the positive reviews mention the steaks. Obviously, we didn't have steaks, so maybe that's it, the steaks are great and the rest is not so great? Or perhaps the chef had the day off on Sunday? Sorry, I really don't know, I can't explain all the 5* reviews... Only just gets 3* (for interior and service).   Absolutely phenomenal - we went for my mum's 70th birthday. The food, staff and service were all just perfect and the ambience was spot on.   We had a delicious snapper main course. I had a good glass of White House vine. My creme brulee and my wife's panna cotta were excellent. The service is very good and caring.   Yesterday we went to Cris' place. Actually, when we saw the place from the streets, we weren't really sure if we want to go there, because it looked a little bit snobby. But deciding to enter this place was the best thing we could do! The service was great, they were really friendly and professional. The meals looked like made by an artist and we haven't eaten better since a long time! Furthermore they brought us several little greetings from the house (Aperitif, Amusegeule, Sorbet, some cakes as dessert) And everything tasted fantastic.   My wife and I tried two different meals. I tried the Codfish with Herbs. Nothing but regular. Almost tasteless. My wife tried a shrimp risotto which tasted like those ready risottos you'd just add water and cook. The Staff was extremely nice. Unfortunately maybe it wasn't the Chef's best day.   A real gem, very well presented food and setting with friendly staff all at a reasonable price. There is a lot of competition for diners in the local area and we were a bit overwhelmed for choice, however Chis's Place had a nice professional look to it from the outside and we decided to give it a go. We are very glad we did. The interior is smartly presented with white table cloths and oil lamps on the tables. There is also a very hansome fish tank which is lovely to look at while eating and set a nice, cosy and intimate atmosphere. We had a complimentary gin and tonic and sparkling wine on arrival and opted for the set menu - 37.5 euro each. This included artisan bread, amuse bouche, starter, palet cleanser, main, dessert, coffee and petit fours. Drinks are also included with two large glasses of wine, plus desert wine also provided. I had the carpaccio, steak and chocolate fondant, where as my wife had the prawns, octopus and creme brule. The food is presented in a modern, arty sort of way with pretty flourishes of side ingredients that really lifted the dishes to something special. My dessert in particular was stand out and really set off the dessert wine that came with it. The staff were very friendly and attentive throughout and spoke excellent English, Menus were also presented in French and German. A faultless performance from start to finish, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.   Fantastic food in a sweet little restaurant. The beef with Foie Gras sauce was the highlight of the evening. Well seasoned. They served a wine package for for a three course dinner and although all the wines tasted good, the winner was definitely the red wine. It went perfectly with the beef.   We dropped by after reading previous trip reviews and we were lucky to get a table (I would advise that you book in advance to avoid disappointment). I had delicious slow cooked pork cheek (so Rick and tasty) and better half amazing fillet steak cooked to perfection. Both plates were amazingly presented - think high end dining.   We went to Cris's Place having read reviews on Tripadvisor. The meal was incredible. I had the 3 course menu for €37.50. In the price of this menu we had an aperitif, a glass of white, a glass of red, a dessert wine and coffee. What was really great is my friend has food intolerances and they had gluten free bread. Each of dishes was delicious and flavourful. My dessert was the chocolate and salted caramel fondant which was easily one of the best things I have eaten. I was surprised at how low my bill was and to top the whole thing off the manager of the restaurant drove us back to our hotel for free. All 3 of us agreed it was a ridiculously good experience.   Best food, best staff and best prices - ever! After we tried chris's place once, we ate here every single day during our stay in madeira. We really enjoyed every single gourmet course here. It was super excellent and we couldnt get enough. The staff was at least as perfect as the food. From the chef to every single of the servants and to the manager - they were literally amazing- all of them! We had very good, funny and relaxing time with them at chris's place. Eating at a michelin restaurant before, I can easily tell this place is my favourite of all restaurants ever. we were sorry to leave madeira, because of we'll not be at chris's place anymore. Because of these people we will definitely come back to madeira again and bring every single evening at chris's place again.   The food is amazing, I had the best risotto I have ever had, however I think it is a bit pretentious. The waiters wear penguin suits and were outdressing most of the clients. They were, however, very cordial. The cutlery had fancy shape, and it looked beautiful but it was not very practical.
