  We’ve been meaning to come here for years but somehow never got around to it. But this first visit definitely won’t be our last. I had the tuna steak which was delicious (and healthy!) paired with the excellent house white. Staff were friendly and attentive. Can’t wait for our return visit.   I really liked this place and can recommend it to you. We had places outside, and it was amazing! My best Madeira food experience. I ordered sea bass, and it was cooked sooo good. On dessert we had panna cotta with red berries. Not too sweet, can be shared. I liked it too. The waiters were very quick and attentive. I don't think I had to wait more than 7 minutes for any of my dishes.   They were really good seating us on Boxing Day. The menu is nice and the food was good but it took quite a while for everything to arrive. There was a wait for the wine, a wait for the starter, a wait for the main... The food was lovely though - especially the octopus. You can sit outside if you wanted.   After some visits in Madeira I strongly recommend this phantastic Restaurant! The owner Franco is welcoming his guest and you feel home from the first second. His wife and all the staff are most carring and great hosts. Professionanity on all levels! As we couldn’t find a free parking slot, Franco offered us his own and parked his car somewhere else, which was the first WOW of many more to come! First night we enjoyed a lovely champage with different startes and main courses with a red wine he recomnended. I guess you can choose whatever you like it is phantastic. And the wine recommendation he makes is just brilliant. As we were so happy we booked for the next evening again. I can tell you the experience was at least as brillinant as on the first evening. He got a fresh new order of tuna fish so we tried. What an experience getting really fresh tuna!! Also the red snapper was extremely tasteful and for the wine recommendation we already knew to give him free hands. Deserts are wonderful too. We tried the apple pie with vanilla ice and the tiramisu. All in all: one if the 5 best places you can eat in Funchal!   I don’t usually take the time to review food or experiences, however, this restaurant is one I haven’t and will never forget. I ordered the duck in March this year, on a trip to this beautiful Maderian island, and haven’t forgotten it since. There was no other choice when myself and my grandmother returned in November this year and I will openly say I will be returning again and again just to experience the wonderful food and friendly team Franco’s corner has to offer. As an individual who enjoys great food and wine back home in England, this restaurant has to be up there with one of the best. Compliments to the chef and all those at Franco’s corner!   We came here on a Sunday evening. Service was mostly attentive and always friendly. The food is in the pricey range for Funchal. We both had a starter. The fish soup was okay, but nothing special. The prawns with garlic were good. We both had the same main course. The risotto with the scallops was okay. I would not order it again. There was some strange taste in the pesto that I could not place and the scallops themselves were on the side of medium. Dessert is served in wine glasses, making it quite hard to eat. The taste was good. All in all I was surprised at how good the ratings are for this place.   The food here was excellent, we had a soup and a grilled fish, both cooked beautifully. Drinks were spot on too, magharitas. It is a little more expensive than other similar quality spots but you can tell that they pride in giving the best so it does suit being a little more expensive.   Ordered the Prawns with Garlic as an appetizer which was nice and for the main the Scabbard Fish Fillet with “corn bread” and crunchy almonds. Unfortunately, it wasn’t corn bread, it was bread crumbs on the fish. The main took almost 45 minutes to arrive after the appetizer. Didn’t enjoy the meal as I’d hoped. For drinks I got the fresh mango juice, which tasted like water. Only liked the prawns, had high expectations for food because of the other reviews.   Took my wife for her 60th birthday after booking in UK. The owner Franco collected us at the hotel and ensured my wife had a special night to remember. They also gave her a bottle of Madeira wine and flower and gave us a complimentary glass of champagne and desserts. Food was excellent (we had Chateaubriand) with a pampering service. Beautiful place inside too for a special night. Not the cheapest but we were happy with the cost of a memorable night. Thankyou Franco for a wonderful night for my wife.   0n arrival we were greeted by Franco who was very welcoming. He chose a wine for us based on our tastes and I do not regret letting him do this for a second, the wine he recommended was exactly what we wanted. The starters looked good but we skipped them because we've spent the past three days shoveling all sorts of nice things down our gullets. For our mains my friend chose the scallops with pesto and citrus risotto which was light, fresh and well presented. I chose the local scabbard fish with prawns, polenta and god knows what kind of sauce but it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in my entire life. I shared a little with my friend and when the waitress asked us if we would like dessert I said "I'm sorry if I sound like an insane person but can we have the scabbard fish with prawns and polenta AGAIN but to share". They kindly obliged and we indulged ourselves for a second time. I do not regret this choice and I recommend this restaurant to everyone.   We went to Franco’s Corner twice in 4 days and I think this fact speaks for itself. Everything we ordered was delicious, clearly made of quality ingredients and creatively put together; from the courses we had, what we liked most was the tuna steak (the side salad was amazing, a multitude of different flavors mixed perfectly), the espetada (high quality beef) and a lovely dessert called Franco’s sin, a yoghurt pudding with a homemade caramel sauce. Franco greeted us on the first visit, which we thought was really nice, but he also welcomed us back on the 2nd occasion, clearly remembering our visit from a few days back; this was a beautiful touch added to the experience, making it a memorable one.   I ordered as main dish a lime risotto which was very sweet and half of my scallops were undercooked and when I told the Chef he was a little bit offended and he told me if I read what I ordered 😅 and then I gave up trying to explain what was the problem.   Went to there with the wife and I orded the meat variety plate. Waitress asked how I wanted cooked. Medium rare I responded. Plate came and i started with the lamb. Well season and tasted great. Lobster and Gambas Risotto far too cooked. We told the kitchen who acknowledged it.   Lovely food, terrific service, great ambience. We arrived without a booking but they found us a table after a short wait. Having had a late lunch(!) we went straight to mains - rack of lamb for me with selection of vegetables and pumpkin purée, scallops with citrus risotto for my wife. Nice house wine.   Wonderful ambience, wonderful service, BUT, two fish dishes were cold! Hence 4 stars not 5. But will go back again as tge food was delicious and so well presented. BTW cold food was represented hot, but still resulted in some of my party eating first then waiting for the 2 others which wasn't ideal. They should have taken all of the food away and represented all dishes at the same time. Rather spoilt the ambience by more than the 10% deducted. We were not disappointed, fantastic food, service and atmosphere. We had the Prawns in garlic starter followed by the day catch (fresh SeaBass and Red Snapper).   Thanks to Google, TripAdvisor and the fork was how we found this restaurant. Slightly off the main drag however the food and ambience were excellent. I had the fish special, which today was sea bass. I was given choice of iow this cooked be cooked and served, I chose grilledmon the bone. Very nice served with potatoes and veg both cooked very well. Partner had the mushroom risotto which tasted and was presented very well. It is always difficult to present risotto with a twist but they didnit very well. If there was to be a downside it was trying to attract someone to pay, but hey at least we weren't rushed out to turn the table over.   We were welcomed by Franco fairly late in the evening, when he could easily have turned us away as the kitchen would have been coming to a close. He took time to welcome us and describe the food and wine on his menu. He guaranteed we would have a lovely meal and was definitely true to his word.   An unbelievable meal with phenomenal flavours! I regret only coming here for lunch, I can only imagine how amazing the dinner would have been! The service was also absolutely top class.   We went to this restaurant for our first day in Madeira and we were astonished by the quality of the food and the ambiance, and importantly by the professionalism of staff. It was a truly amazing experience and we enjoyed great wine(we even bought a bottle of Madeira wine to take with us). The garlic bread is very good and octopus starter is very tender and refreshing. For main i had scabbard fish with shrimps and my husband had filet mignon, both were super, but my fish was beyond expectations. For dessert i truly recommend franco’s sin.   My 75th birthday could not have had a better location nor a better host. The warm welcome by Franco was followed by an evening to remember. Prosecco and shared prawns. Yum. Chateaubriand was the main course accompanied by a brilliant wine from Douro. We asked for the tenderloin to be rare and it was perfect. Unfortunately we were so pleased with the meal and the service I forgot to take a picture of the perfect presentation. To top it off Franco brought a birthday chocolate mousse with another two glasses of Prosecco. A perfect evening that we will remember fondly. We had planned to return to Franco's before our departure from Madeira but unfortunately Covid cut our visit short.   We had a lovely meal here tonight 22/12, I had the fresh sea bass and my husband had the rack of lamb, both were very tasty and cooked to Perfection. The staff were attentive and professional, Franko introduced himself to us too which was very nice. The complimentary olives at the start and the Madeira wine at the end was a lovely touch. It's good value for money, our bill was €83 we had 3 courses each and a bottle of wine. We will definitely visit again on a future visit to Madeira.   My favourite restaurant in Madeira so far. This is a class act. Very nice stylish interior. We were made to feel welcome right from the start (even though we hadn't booked). A large local work party was sitting down to eat just as we arrived, but that didn't affect the service at all. Tasty soup to start (tomato & vegetable). Mains were grilled line-caught sea bass (delicious) and grilled octopus (incredible and such a large serving). Passion fruit mousse for desert was the perfect end. All in all, a superb meal.   Very disappointing. We were given a friendly greeting by a young woman and allowed to choose our table as there was no one sitting outside. We were given some water as requested and a complimentary bowl of olives. We were given a wine list and menus. A suited man came to the table, but did not greet us with the handshake he offered other guests. He explained the fish of the day and we were left to choose our meal. We both decided on the fish of the day and chose a bottle of white wine as an accompaniment. We acted quite some time before the suited arrived and said he would take our order. Before we could respond a couple arrived at the entrance to the restaurant. Without any apology or explanation the suited man greeted the couple, shook their hands, and took them to a table. He did not return to us. We waited several minutes, discussing our disappointment over such discourtesy, and decided to leave. We sought out this restaurant based on the positive reviews we had read but are very displeased with the way we were treated. We visit Madeira every year and have eaten numerous restaurants of varying standards. However, we have always been treated with respect and courtesy. NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED!   We wanted to dine close to our hotel and were intrigued by francos positive reviews. Upon browsing the menu Franco himself lured us in with “we make magic inside”. Truth be told, the food, wine and service was outstanding. We were ecstatic to find traditional dishes with an authentic flair and the lemon risotto was incredible (there are seasonal menus so I’m sorry if you miss out). All the waiters were honest and lovely, always making time for you. And you could see all the other guests were treated with equal care. If you visit this restaurant try the "surprise" dessert, it's one of the best desserts you'll have ever eaten!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.   What a very nice place to eat. Very nice people who knows what they serve. Had the freshest tomato soup and the pepper steak was perfectly baked. You remember your dinner with the dessert, and with the panna cotta, you go home with a pleasant feeling. Overall just very nice people and amazing food.   Accidentally gave one star.....been twice and both occasions were fantastic. John looked after us so well and met Franco the owner as well. Obviously too much puncho last night. Thankyou for the fantastic hospitality, food and wine....best way to spend last couple of hours in Madeira.
