  One of the best restaurant in Funchal. And it’s our 3rd time so we tried a lot. Every option we had at the place was 10/10. Highly recommend carpaccio and burrata cheese for starters.   The food was nice, not great, but overall great atmosphere so I would recommend if you’re nearby. The only thing is that the wines are super overpriced. A €4 bottle at the store is priced €32 at this place. IMO it is way too much.   The atmosphere of the place compensates greatly to the mediocre service and poorly tasting food. I went twice to the restaurant and was disappointed both times; had to wait several minutes to be greeted by one of the waiters, my tomato soup was tasteless as much as my pizza was after. Of course, the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful and is welcoming from afar, but it quickly failed to impress me after spending more time there and trying the food. Would recommend to find something more local and perhaps more “authentic” next time. The food looks great here not going to lie…just don’t get fooled by it.   Had dinner here tonight and service was the worst I’ve ever had in Madeira- ordered the most expensive main and no server came and asked if it was ok - no server came and asked to pour my wine or sparkling water. No server came and asked if we had finished. No server asked if we wanted desserts or coffees or another drink. No sign at all of any restaurant manager. What a sorry state of affairs - shame on this sad place for actually trying to be a restaurant! Shame on the owners and we would never go back to such a pathetic place!   We ate at Il Basilico on both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. We loved it, the staff were all so welcoming and friendly, the tremendous efforts that had been made to make the restaurant feel so festive, crackers and bubbly on Christmas Eve, New Years "headwear" and bubbly on New Years Eve, really made for a brilliant atmosphere.   We have eaten at Il Basilico a couple of time and never been disappointed. The staff are so friendly and professional and the food is excellent. Simple things like the bruschetta make all the difference. I had a pizza with a mixed salad and my partner had the Vitella alla Milanese risotto. I've had the tiramisu before here and it really is the best, couldn't find the room this time though. Just fantastic and such a nice atmosphere.   After reading reviews on this place and having to book after a few failed attempts we were all very excited to try this place out. It's fair to say we all found it very average and it wasn't that tasty at all. Nothing offensive but nothing ground breaking either, I have been impressed at other Italians on the island but this wasn't that spectacular for us. The food was obviously fresh and they tried to put a spin on a few classics. But, for a restaurant on the more expensive side it left a lot to be desired, it was all very average. Notably the garlic Focaccia was rock hard, and didn't taste like garlic at all. We felt forgotten about and received slow and pretty awful service.   Went here for lunch today with friends. The restaurant has been expanded since l last came with a new healthy eating one. Seating inside and out is a pleasant experience with plenty of space between tables. Can sit outside in the sun or be shaded by elegant palms. Very efficient polite staff.   Well this was a wow. Tried to go twice, no success as they were fully booked, once on a weekend, once on a random weekday evening. Booked and ate, expecting the exceptional given their popularity and we weren't disappointed. This is the only spot I have seen cocktails coming out from the bar where I thought "look at that piece of art, I might have to get a cocktail". This bartender clearly knew their stuff, I resisted, as I rarely drink. Myself and my dining companion both enjoyed the best pizza we have eaten in a long while... And I eat pizza everywhere for dish inspiration for back home... Would absolutely recommend. Will be back soon before our month here is up. Definitely book in advance. Wide selection on the menu, plenty for vegetarians such as myself. Didn't have dessert but we were certainly tempted by what we saw on the table beside us. They were huge and, even as a greedy person, I couldn't finish the white truffle pizza. Happily took it back to our room to finish off for lunch the next day though.   Disappointing..... We were recommended this Italian restaurant by hotel guests. The service was good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately the food was ectreemely disappointing. I had the lasagnetta which was served almost cold and tasted quite bland. The menu mentioned that it contained chantrelles but if therse were present, they were indistiguishable from other ingredients and totally lacking any flavour. My fellow diners ordered tagliatelle based dishes, only to be subsequently advised that they had none and would spaghetti be ok. Unfortunately this was the wrong pasta for the dish.   The food here is amazing, and always fresh. They have some very interesting salads and the desserts are super yummy! There is lovely outdoor seating and the staff are on point. There is sometimes live music and the atmosphere is generally classy, but relaxed. The location is great because you can go for a leisurely stoll along the promenade directly in front of the restaurant after your meal. I would highly recommend giving them a visit.   We ave eaten at this restaurant in previous years and I didn't think it was so good this year. There was no customer service. We were put at our table, the waiters had no smiles and when the one waiter brought our cutlery he threw it on the table and rushed off. It's good to have efficient fast service but not to the detriment of bring pleasant and showing that you care about the customer. Everything was rushed even when the waiter took our order, it was as if it was hard work for him to wait while we decided. My husband had a nice meal of beef medallions with a mushroom sauce, saute potatoes and aubergine parmesan. He thoroughly enjoyed it. My meal of seafood risotto was more tomato based and didn't taste fishy at all. The prawns were cooked well but that was the nicest thing about it.   Fantastic service, and food in lovely contemporary surroundings. Can't recommend Il Basilico enough, from the moment we're arrived the service was exceptional, and the food was fantastic. A nice touch was the staff overhearing the children say they were hungry, with out of nowhere cheese and bread dips arriving. The staff also overheard us taking about my youngest daughters birthday, with them bringing out a brownie with a candle on at the end of the meal. Overall this is an exceptional restaurant.   The Basilico is a very modern Italian restaurant sitting in a nice position on the coast.we came across it while walking on the lower road toward funchal from the Lido. We hadn't booked but they quickly found us a gd table. We had three courses from the menu and it was all exceptional. I had a calzone and it was so huge it filled the plate. There was no Christmas decorations (apart from a tree as you walk in) unlike many of the other restaurants we visited which had many.   We had Spaghetti Carbonara without cream. It was delicious. For dessert I had Tiramisu. My home version has more Brandy! The staff were very efficient.   Staff lovely very attentive. Unfortunately we arrived during Italian week so special menu. A bit odd as it's an Italian restaurant, have had many fab meals here over the last 12yrs but this time it was awful, I had beetroot and prawn rissotto which consisted of watery pink rice and 2 prawns not great shakes for €15! We asked for bread and oil to start we had 2 lovely rolls and some odd greasy cubes of something that nearly broke a tooth. Shame will go again on past not recent experiences.   A very fine Italian restaurant situated on the Rua de Leichlingen this restaurant is both modern and minimalist in its decor but has a great atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. The menu has all the traditional Italian favourites and I'd particularly recommend the pizza which is mouthwatering! The wine menu has a wide choice of local and world wines.   After trying to avoid the many Italian restaurants in Funchal because we fancied something different, we gave in after coming across here. Positioned close to the sea and next to the main square, there was a musical festival on at the time and we sat outside. I had one of the best gnocchi dishes I have ever had. Not completely satisfied we returned on the last night and I had a beef Raghu which was even better than the Gnocchi! The starters and desserts were also very good! One of he best restaurants that we visited whilst staying in Funchal!   I'm surprised that this place is highly rated and popular. We really were looking forward to our meal and the place had a nice ambiance and the plating was the nice but sadly our appetizer and entrées were subpar... (perhaps we were expecting too much to find decent Italian food in Madeira). Our pastas were overcooked and the sauce was passable.
