  Moved over to Lido today ,and had lunch at Leeno's. It was ok , but not my favorite. The espetada was a little over cooked and not as tender as some we have had locally. Octopus salad was ok. Fries were very good. salad was very fresh. A glass of the house red is $5. A little on the high side for box wine. Nice place to sit. Next to the walkway along the ocean. Service was good.   The food overall was good however we waited 20-30 mins for our food after ordering. And when my red snapper came out it was half raw so I had to wait even more for my fish to be recooked. My friend had the roasted duck, which had a sweet plum taste to it. We also tried their tiramisu which was good. Not the best I’ve had but pretty good. I tried the local fish, scabbard, it was very nice but not hot to say the least, I did think of sending it back but didn't want it muting in the microwave!!! On completion of the main meal, the waiter asked if we wanted a sweet, which we said yes, but after 25 minutes of waiting for a menu, we decided to ask for the bill, surprisingly it was the same waiter who should have brought the sweet menu.   Leenos Lunchtime Special: Very disappointed. Thought it would be something special. Just chicken and chips with no salad and not much taste. Could have eaten this anywhere, even in Pingo supermarket!. When asked if our food was OK, we suggested it could come with a small salad and less chips. We were promptly told we could purchase a salad if we wanted. As a tourist when the notice board says special lunch that's what we thought it would be. Something special! It was not, and the waiter seemed put out we said we felt it was not that special. Oh well matter of opinion at the end of the day. Restaurant really needs to make that special effort for passing trade at lunch time. If you cannot be bothered to serve something a bit different or have customer rapour forget advertising!!! It used to be a really nice place with excellent food, but now it has surly staff, slow service and poor quality food. We used to visit here regularly when on the island but this time will be our last visit, there are many more better venues close by.   Wro g food delivered no apology! Resulted in different meals being delivered at different times so all four of us were eating separately. There was a manhole cover under the table. It wasn't sealed so sewerage smells came up through ! You could hear the where flowing every time someone pulled that flush !   Restaurant itself is nice, service is good but the food is quite average. I was expecting more because of the ratings. Price is higher than normal restaurants in Funchal but the food doesn’t taste better. The shrimp lacked salt and beef had tons of salt in. Wine was very expensive ( compared to local restaurants), maybe we had bad luck but thought other tourists should know.   I am aware Leeno's has new owners and there have been suggestions that the place is not as good. I would disagree. Leenos still offers very good food and still has a great atmosphere. They are building a new team who give a good service and I believe they will go from strength to strength again. I have had 3 lovely meals whilst staying in Madeira over the last 2 weeks. Thank you to Moses and the rest of the team.   Watch out this place!! They clearly wanted to set us up. My boyfriend ordered camarões fajitas and “by mistake”, they brought us chicken fajitas. My boyfriend didn’t mind and say no problem, I like this one as well but bear in mind it’s chicken (kindly say to one of the waitress). When we were about to pay we saw on the bill “camarones fajitas” and my boyfriend say: sorry but it was chicken. The waitress said, it is the same price so dont worry! As I was not sure about any of this I asked for the menu and clearly chicken fajitas had a cheaper price. I told to the waitress and he say it came like that on the machine!!! Pleasee avoid this place!! Do not understand how they even got good reviews online!! As I was reading they trying to set up people constantly!!!! What do they think???!!   A little disappointed. We were sat to the left on the outside and the lighting was terrible, we couldn't read the menu so I ended up moving the table towards the street lamp but that just flickered off and on. Others were using their phone lights. The waiter explained that the owner had removed lights so he could put up Xmas lights later in the week. They should have put candles on tables at least.   I have been here before, but on my last visit it was under new ownership and I have to be honest - I was very disappointed with the food. Nothing like it used to be. The staff and service was fine. The food however, was average at best and it is not cheap. We had pork cheeks as a main, lacked seasoning and the broth was more like tasteless pointless water. The starters were not good either. The prawns were over cooked in a bland source. The limpets as a starter were okay - but at 14 Euros (for a starter) I did expect something different or a bigger portion. I have no problem with paying - but I expect the food to be good. It’s a shame because it was an excellent restaurante in a lovely location.   Very unimpressed unfortunately. My son ordered steak on the stone. After 5 minutes we had to ask for another stone as it wasn't hot enough to even keep the steak warm let alone cook it. My wife and I both had the beef skewers which were chewy and full of gristle. Then had a very long wait for desserts to arrive and none of us were offered another drink during our whole meal.   Called in tonight at Leeno’s having read the reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Despite not having booked we were met by Moses and were welcomed with a warm friendly smile and shown to our table. It was later in the evening when we called in and we ordered fish soup, and Moses was able to accommodate us with two sirloins served on the hot stones. Both courses were absolutely delicious and the service from all of the staff was spectacular. It was our first visit and it was like I had been eating at this restaurant my whole life! That’s how much at home we felt. The staff were happy, friendly and excellent at what they did. I can’t think of the last time I experienced service as good as this in a restaurant. The meal was topped off with a beautifully done pistachio brownie for me and an Irish coffee for my wife. The quality of the food was excellent and I had the opportunity to thank the chef personally before I left. All in all a fabulous dining experience and I would highly recommend you visit this restaurant if you’re in Funchal.   If you wondered why there's no recent reviews that's because the restaurant has different owners and everything has changed. Be warned, this is NOT the same restaurant, and Google shouldn't even allow them to keep this rating. From waiters with very bad manners, to uncooked food and outright scams, I'm writing this review hoping at least someone is helped by it. Needless to say, from all the people having dinner there when I last visited, at least half were loudly complaining,and someone just got up and left. What a mess, avoid this scam at all costs, it's not the same restaurant from all the preview reviews!   We had two really great meals here. Staff were really friendly and polite. The food was amazing - though I'm not the greatest with a steak on a stone! The portions are generous, we got 2 sides with our mains which was more than sufficient. Prices were fair too.   Disappointment! First time ever the espetada meat was so stringy that my plate was half full of meat strings when finished. The filet on stone had stringy parts, too. Broccoli was inedible and other vegetables just underdone. Greetings to the kitchen about the broccoli went without a comment.   Great Expectations? A very popular place and having read the reviews and missed out when they closed for a holiday in December we were really looking forward to our night in Leeno's. The staff were attentive from the start, it's a pleasant atmosphere and was already busy at 1900hrs. We took advice on a nice bottle of red wine and we ordered the local garlic bread for a starter. For mains each, a grilled beef fillet, medium rare, with vegetables. (Not on the stone). Things then for us did not seem to go to plan or our expectation? We were less than half way through our garlic bread when the steaks arrived? The accompanying vegetables were not al dente they were best described as raw and my wife's steak was 'blue' side of rare? I had pepper sauce which seemed to be short of pepper or pepper corns? I am not a Chef and don't want the management to take this review the wrong way as a complaint but more of a quality control check?   The staff at Leeno's were so wonderful! They took good care of us and made wonderful suggestions with food. Most of our group got the fish or meat on the stone. This whole experience was both fun and delicious. We cooked our own food after helpful instruction from the staff. We also had the piano(picado)and the chicken with cheese bacon and BBQ sauce,all incredibly delicious and authentically Portuguese.   We stumbled upon Leeno's for a late lunch and they were still serving! Thankfully for us this was one of the best meals we had during our stay in Madeira. It's filled with locals, so you know it's good. We had the bolo do caco and ham with melon as a starter, both were delicious. We ordered the espetadas of chicken and steak, both were absolutely mouth-watering. The steak was very well cooked and both were nice and juicy.   Came here for an early dinner with my husband. He ordered the octopus for starters whilst I had the traditional vrea dish herb garlic butter. Both starters were delicious and I loved that we could choose our own table. For mains he had the espatada (beef steak) & I had the grilled salmon. I did ask what the difference was between the "salmon on the stone" and the "grilled salmon" was, the waiter (who spoke in amazing English by the way; much better than my Portuguese), informed me that the "salmon on the stone" comes raw and you cook it infront of you to your liking. I preference the sides with the grilled salmon so went with that. We have both left FULL, the food was delicious and the toilets (I hate using public toilets), but the toilets were VERY CLEAN and FRESH! All in all, a lovely, friendly, affordable restaurant.   This was our first visit after reading several great reviews. We dined in the evening in mid December. Situated in the Lido area, we found both local and tourist diners. We had a fillet steak that was so tender it melted in the mouth and espetada which was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were tender and crispy.. just right. The staff were attentive.   A bit late with the review. Tried Leeno's on our first night and was blown away by the wonderful food but even more so from the stand out service from the staff and the owner. Lovely kind man who made us feel at home straight away and went above and beyond to accommodate us at short notice for new years eve as well. Around 18 euro, really good price for such a big steak, I think it was over 350 g! Lots of food for one person.. could easily have shared it. It was the best steak we have ever eaten.   Another visit to Leenos for a super meal cooked exactly as I asked for. Veggies not over cooked, just as they should be. Tuna steak or in my case, two steaks were delicious and very tasty, something you don’t get when they are over cooked.   Really good food, a bit more expensive but worth it I think. The menu is mostly fish and meat, some of it served uncooked so you can cook it yourself on the hot stone brought to your table. The wine is not too expensive. Well worth a visit, popular with locals, and seems to have many regulars, so it can be busy so book ahead.   Delicious meat and fish. Staff was attentive and helpful. Sides were good but the main stole the show. Most tender and juicy meat I've had in a long time, skewer stole the show.   Unfortunately my experience was disappointing. I suggest to only go to this place if you want to order a hot stone dish, otherwise don't bother. We ordered two soup dishes as starter, both soups were unimaginative and one was served almost cold. The two fish main dishes were both over cooked and not particularly tasty.   Absolutely fantastic, one of the best restaurants in Funchal, without a doubt. Wine selection was excellent as were the lapas and octopus starters. The hot stone tuna mains were incredible. The fish was fresh and portions were more than generous. The staff were all great too. Highly recommended.   Managed to sneak in a table for two despite not booking. Ended up with a pleasant surprise on our first night in Funchal. Order one steak and one tuna on the stone, and ended up with some very tasty meals. Lots of salt and garlic on them, but both were large portions of meat. Staff were very helpful in explaining the best way to cook your food yourself. Seems like a popular place, with the table next to us looking to return for two nights over the following week.   Those on the stone dishes were amazing! We had tuna and beef fillet and the portions were huge. The prawns were also very good. The chicken was quite average. Nice service.   Had dinner there today ordered the mushroom and leek. The tuna and the black scabbard. Also ordered a bottle of white house wine ,perfect match with the fish imo. Food was very fresh and tasty.   Went in for lunch. Place was tidy and was greeted quickly and seated. Staffs were well aware (coming quickly if called) and asking if we needed any help. Ordered cook on stone steak for myself which was juicy and just melted. Fries were full of flavour as well. Was not able to finish as portion size was huge. My partner orders tuna variant and she enjoyed her food as well. Considering quality and location it was inexpensive and thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommended just like most reviews here.   Leeno's is by far the best Restaurant that I have visited so far. This is for sure our "home away from home". We love the incredible food (filet on the stone !!!!) and and the guys working there. The atmosphere is always good and every time we leave Leeno's, we book a table there for the next evening. I can't wait to be back there!!!!   Very disappointed with the fillet steak on a stone. It was more like pork (light coloured and tough), I left about a third of it. I didn't complain as I don't see the point, I'd already eaten over half. I was waiting for a waiter to ask if I'd enjoyed my meal but they didn't. I suspect they knew! This is a real shame because we ate here about 12 months earlier and I had a wonderful fillet steak on a stone. So, a 50% hit rate as far as I'm concerned. Don't think we'll go back to be honest.   One of the best restaurants I have experienced on Madeira island. They have amazing steaks on a hot stone which makes it a great experience.   Wow definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Funchal. The steak cooked on the stone was hands down one of the best steaks I have ever had (and I'm from NYC). We devoured our steaks so fast that we didn't have time to take any pictures. I highly recommend this place!   Absolutely fantastic meal in lovely modern designed restaurant (communal toilet wash hand basin was pretty cool). Partner had a really delicious chicken and mushroom with tomato sauce (like Chichester parmigiana) and I had an amazing fillet steak espetita (skewered steak). With beer, cappachino and tea our meal came to €39 - fantastic value for great quality food. Service was fantastic with all waiters attentive, friendly and fun.   I had the fillet steak on a stone and it was delicious. Only reason I gave 4*s was because we were sat outside (no reservation). With smokers. Food was great through.   Absolutely amazing experience for a great price. Although the restaurant was pretty full, we were quickly served. We ordered 2 kinds of steaks on the stone, tuna and beef (the fatty one, it is cheaper because of fat, but it has more flavor). It was wonderful! We never had steak "prepared" this way, so waiter patiently explained the process and we were all set. The stone kept hot for surprisingly long time and I can say - I never had better steak!
