  You get what you pay for. People in the comments need to stop complaining about the prices. I rather spend a ton of money on good food then little money on yuck food. Everything was fine. You can have a look at the raw steaks before they are cooked to see what the sizes are like - always good if you're not sure of portion size. The steak here has instantly gone into my top ten ever - excellent quality, perfectly cooked, not to mention reasonably priced, this has to be the best place to eat on Madeira, hands down! The same quality steak in the UK easily costs twice as much. Both the sirloin and fillet were beautiful. The service here is excellent too, and they even do poncha, if you feel guilty for not going for a more traditional Madeiran meal and want a different drink to go with your meal 😊 Alternatively the wine selection is great too!   Steak is pretty much all there is but nothing else is needed. We had a fillet and rib eye, both cooked perfectly. Best steak we have ever tasted and we’ve had quite a few on 4 continents. Home cooked fries and baked potatoes also really good, plus the accompanying sauces were fantastic especially the chimichurri. Staff are very friendly too, so if you’re in Madeira and want a steak, go to La Vaca Negra. You’ll be glad you did.   Amazing experience all round. Firstly, would recommend that you book in advance as it can get very very busy even in what we thought was a quieter season. The steaks were fantastic and temperature was spot on. I won't deduct a star but some of the fat should have been caramelised a bit more as it was raw or chewy in some parts. But the steaks - we both ordered T-Bone steaks - were great. The portion size, the sauces, fries, and sweet potato were all fantastic, and so were the desserts. The staff were also attentive throughout the night and very friendly. Pricepoint was ok, but again slightly more caramelised fat would have completely justified it. Still great overall though!   All around very good experience. Service was laid back but professional and fast even though the place was full. Value for money in this place is great. While they are not the cheapest prices are very reasonable and you definately get your moneys worth. Menu is quite simple, but that is a good thing since what they do they do very well. If you are looking for a no-nonsense place to get a good steak this is it. (Fair warning though for vegetarians: only things on the menu for you are sides and wine.) We got the mixed grill and were recommended a great wine to go with that. It was grilled medium -, just as ordered and meats themselfs were of very good quality.   we had one meat with fries for 65.75 euro, and it was huge and good, but we had to wait so long. We had to wait over 1,5 hours. And we ordered 2 smoothies and 1 beer and 1 nikita.   I ordered a rib eye and my partner had a filet. Both of our steaks had varying temperatures throughout. The sides of my steak were a nice medium rare, the middle was raw. Not just rare, raw.   This place is excellent, unless you are vegetarian 🙂. The steaks are the best you’ll have anywhere. The staff are brilliant, even when it’s busy, which is most of the time. Our waiter recommended an amazing bottle of red wine and we ordered the mix platter which had 2 rump, 2 sirloin and 2 fillet steaks, with home made fries and a selection of sauces - off the scale for taste and the bill was 50 euros.   I read the reviews and agree completely - best steak I've ever had, hands down, easy. I'm not the kind of guy to ever drop €75 on a meal for two (including a great bottle of red, the Alicante Bouschet) but it was the absolute best way to end our trip and we are still dreaming of it days later. I'd absolutely go back again and happily spend the same knowing what I'm getting. Awesome guys, awesome place, awesome grub.   Sensational experience! As a group of four, we decided to go for a mixed platter of Argentinian beef. Grilled perfectly, we were served a big platter of beef with trough food for all of us.   We have eaten here twice on holiday and already booked a third visit before we leave. The steaks are some of the best I have ever eaten. Juicy, tasty and cooked to perfection. The meat comes from the Azores. It’s delicious. The staff work so well together and are a happy team. Service is excellent. Would highly recommend.   What can I say, just had one of the best meals we have ever had in Madeira! The guys at La Vaca Negra are great. Top quality food with amazing service, I wish all Madeira restaurants were like this. The fillet of beef was melt in the mouth and the t-bone was tremendous too, served with fries or jacket potato and side sauces it is all you need with your delicious meat. For us though it was the service that made it extra special, right from the moment we arrived the staff could not do enough for us, and all without being pushy, they tell you about the meat cuts and give great advice, and then they let you enjoy your meal hassle free.   We did not have a reservation, something you should do because it is a busy place. The staff however managed to get us seated for which we were very grateful. The staff was very friendly and attentive and helped us out magnificently. We started with the empenadas and loved them. Then we had the mixed grill for two. The meat was really top. Cooked perfectly and more than enough for two. For dessert we shared ricotta because we could not eat more. Very delicious. I would definitely go back if the holidays would have lasted a bit longer.   What can I say. This was a great place to eat. The service was superb. They went out of there way to welcome us and answer any questions that we had. The steak was delicious. We had the mixed grill to share . The meat came out exactly as we wanted it cooked and tastes delicious. We went early ( 7pm ) and was lucky to get a seat as all the tables had been booked up but they had tables they could use next door but not many. So to be sure I would be booking ahead.   Went there for drinks 3 days ago and the service was so impeccable that we decided to return for dinner 2 days later. Sat down and were greated happily, received our drinks super fast (they even still remembered our order from the other night). Super helpful with questions surrounding the wine or food, we ended up ordering a meat platter for two. Now 38 Euros might sound much but let me tell you it really isn't. Each person receiving 3 hefty pieces of meat. Rumpsteak, Serloin and Filet. They all were one of the best pieces of meat we had ever eaten, the sauces were superb and really elevated the meat itself. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and overall both the food and the service was so good that we already booked another table!   Ok so here comes the honest review. Nothing less than 5 stars! You want meat? Thats what you get and nothing less. Awesome taste due to the open fire oven. Staff is great and location is good. There is a small catch though, watch out for the portions, they can be huge! It truly is a waste if they have to throw away the meat, especially considering the mindset of climate and food waste. Tip for the owner: mention estimated meat portion weight on next menu print so first time customers are aware. Go and eat here, quality wise you won't regret it!   Amazing what you would expect from Argentinian grilling! Service was good, but the stake is what is at the center and it shines through! We got a dry aged cutlet and t bone and they got cooked medium rare and medium done. Both came out as requested. The beef was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The only thing you can say is the place is both quality and price point in the higher end of Madeira but we'll worth it! We would have visited twice if time had allowed it. You can reserve in advance, I would recommend this if you come at normal dinner time as La Vaca Negra quickly filled up and had to turn customers down during our visit.   Good steakhouse. We had a great experience and I would go back. The service was relaxed and very good. We shared a huge tomahawk, which was 56 euros total for 3 people, a good price. The steak was cooked excellent, medium rare in the leaner piece with nicely caramelized fat and a nice crust. The meat quality was solid, although not special.   Great argentinian restaurant with delicious meat. I had the filet, which was large ans soooo tender! The meat suffice to itself, but you can add some chimichuri, which is well done. They have a small terrasse with 4 tables on a fairly busy street, and inside dining room. Staff very nice, quick and efficient. We ordered empanadas and bolo do caco (local bread) with provolone for starters, picanha and rib eye for the main dish and empanadas for dessert (yes they were that good!).   Update: went for a meal 9 months later and it was not the same experience . The meat was not medium (over cooked) and potatoes came 5 mins later and meat was cold. Maybe they have a new chef. Plus the net said they are open at 16.00 we went there at 17.10 and were told to come back at 18.00. We came back at 17.45 and there were several tables occupied.   Friendly staff that explained the meats and background for the sauces on the side. Steak was amazing and just melts in your mouth. I had the T-Bone and my partner had the Rib Eye. They were the best cooked steaks I’ve had in a looooong time! Definitely worth every penny and make a new stomach pocket unless you are sharing!   Ok the picture doesn't do justice. So me and my partner made reservations expecting a lot based on other reviews. This place delivered and then some. They had specials but we went for rib eye and T bone. My rib eye in the picture was almost as big as my head (don't think I really captured that). They were served with 'chips' (more like potato cube but whatever..they taste good and that's all that matters) with side of salad. I couldn't finish my portion because...huge. steak was juicy with all the juice captured inside with nice flame grilled outside. I am not good with words...and it's best that you try this.   Meat was very good and tender but not cooked properly at first try. Ordered the mega t-bone medium rare but it was dead cold in center.
