  What a nice place with so nice owner! I visited only to taste a glass of local vine and spend a nice time, but I ended up with two glasses, the owner treated me to a cookies and slice of cheese.   We popped in on a quiet Tuesday afternoon for some wine and a light snack. We ended up staying all afternoon, the service was excellent with some incredible wine recommendations and the friendliest, homely service you could wish for.   What am I missing?! This place was terrible!! I have NEVER left a Google review or any review for that matter. Until now. This “starter” plate. What IS THAT?? Parsley, and some grapes. It was beyond dumb and pointless. The meal? Overcooked broccoli and snap peas. Some inedible flowers every where. A rude owner/server that thinks his medicine cooking is a work of art. It was amateurish at best. The best part though? This trash was only 10 euros. So if you want bland food, stupid embellishments, and an owner that thinks he is some celebrity check, come here.   At 20:00, the restaurant is nearly empty, except for one table. After 5 minutes, a waiter approaches and asks about our reservation. Without one, we cannot be served. But being there it got from friendly (hugging my friend) to overbearing, serving us extra bits and pieces off his hand, or knife, and said he would kill me (imitating a gun, jokingly) if I didn't want to eat am extra bit of food he offered.   I was treated extremely poorly here. The owner is very rude. I tried to make a reservation in advance, but I did not receive a response. I then went into the restaurant and was asked if I had a reservation and said I tried to make one but didn't get a response. He seemed annoyed and rolled his eyes.   The weirdest wine bar I have ever been to (and I've been to many, as well as run one). It's "open by reservation only" as a well hidden sign at the entrance says. Nevertheless I was kindly admitted to one of the many empty tables. They have no menu, pointing you to a blackboard with some hardly readable (and priceless) items. No wine menu either... Instead the owner places have a dozen bottles on the table, and when you ask him about two of them, all he can say is what regions they are from (Alentejo, Douro) - as if I couldn't read the labels. I ask for a platter of cheeses and ham, and get what you can see in the photo (no, I wasn't asking for dessert). No bread comes with it, and after requesting it, I get an unpleasant set of crushed and buttered pieces of buns. The wine for 20€ the bottle is average at best. Meanwhile, one of the two women apparently running the place together with the rather arrogant guy talks on the speaker phone for half an hour in front of all guests. Holy mackerel, who wants to enjoy a glass of wine at this wine bar, let alone a bottle, as they don't serve wine by the glass??   We came across this restaurant on our first visit to Madeira. You can eat in Infinito through booking a reservation. We were a group of 4 including a child. We didn't know what to expect. We were presented with a beautiful minimalist starter with local herbs, flowers and fruits. We were in awe once the main arrived, it was visually pleasant, colorful and a fusion of flavors. We liked it so much that we went back for dinner the following day. Miguel is an interesting character and a food alchemist. We will definitely be back in our next trip to Funchal. In addition, truly aesthetic and kind owner gave us a lot of nice things to taste (cheese, sausage, sauce). The prices are very democratic for such amount of food.   Very different experience. No menu and you need a reservation. But the tastiest food I have had in a long time and the presentation was worthy of a restaurant costing five times as much. The owner/ cook pretty much operated alone and was humble and lovely. Highly recommend you book and go. Just be prepared for something different but worth every penny.   We were having a drink at Funchal Tap which is located just across restaurant Infinito Wine Bar. The restaurant wasn't even opened when we were sitting on the Funchal Tap's terrace. At 5 pm the restaurant opened. It was looking really nice, the owner dressed the tables outside with care. At 6.15 pm we decided to have dinner at Infinito Wine because we were feeling kind of sorry that such place wasn't having any customers for more than an hour! We walked in and the gentleman asked us how he could help us. We asked if se could have dinner with the two of us. The answer was NO because there were full (where are the customers???) and we could only have dinner after making a reservation. Disappointed we walked away and wondered if we could make a reservation online for this evening. To our surprise we could make an online reservation for 15 minutes from now......😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈. Why sending us away if your place hasn't been booked for the whole evening? We will send our money somewhere else 😉. Às 18h15 decidimos jantar no Infinito Wine porque estávamos com pena que aquele local não tivesse clientes há mais de uma hora! Entramos e o senhor nos perguntou como poderia nos ajudar. Perguntamos se poderíamos jantar com nós dois. A resposta foi NÃO porque estavam lotados (onde estão os clientes???) e só podíamos jantar depois de fazer a reserva. Decepcionados, fomos embora e nos perguntamos se poderíamos fazer uma reserva online para esta noite. Para nossa surpresa poderíamos fazer uma reserva online daqui a 15 minutos......😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈. Por que nos mandar embora se o seu lugar não foi reservado para a noite toda? Enviaremos nosso dinheiro para outro lugar 😉.

  I think this was our best & most memorable restaurant experience ever. Reservation is a must, so don't forget it! Nice decoration on the table & plates, the owner is a very friendly man and he does care about his guests. He doesn't offer a standard menu, however, he showed us the fish & meat options on a tray and we could choose the exact food we wanted to eat. Everything was perfect, we asked both for grilled meat and fish. He recommended good wines, and took us some special cheese, local fruit called 'anona' directly from his farm, some chocolate balls and after that, we closed the day with home made sausages. These were on the house. 2 bottles of Portugese wine and sparkling water, 4 portions of main dish, 2x4 local poncha drink (plus everything else on the house) cost only ~120 EUR for 4 people.   Wow best food of the holiday! Owner is a bit quirky so you have to go with the flow a bit. Only take bookings as the owner does everything.   Food, service, the restaurant, the owner, all have plenty of character. Basically a one-man-show. The owner serves guests and prepares food all himself. Now? No idea. Witchcraft I recon. Anyway the food is great and so is the rest. First time, we stumbled upon this place by chance. We loved it so much, we made a reservation for our last evening. Bad idea. When we got there, the owner had apparently forgotten our reservation (and us) and was about to close for the evening. However, when we came knocking, he quickly scanned what he had left in the kitchen, pulled out a chair and made sure we didn't leave hungry. It's also way too cheap for what you get. Na primeira vez, tropeçamos neste lugar por acaso. Nós amamos tanto que fizemos uma reserva para nossa última noite. Péssima ideia. Quando chegamos lá, o proprietário aparentemente havia esquecido nossa reserva (e nós) e estava prestes a fechar a noite. No entanto, quando batemos, ele rapidamente examinou o que havia deixado na cozinha, puxou uma cadeira e certificou-se de que não saíamos com fome. Também é muito barato para o que você recebe.   One of *those* places you find at random. Small restaurant with great food and idiosyncratic staff. We were just looking for anywhere still serving at coming up to 10pm after a flight delay. Drank a great Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca blend for 30 euros. Prices are softened by the pleasant service and the abundant snacks, all of which are delicious.
