  Sorry to say but don’t bother for the brisket. Over smoked , dry and covered in bbq sauce as an attempt to redeem it. Brisket should NEVER be dry and should never NEED sauce to make it edible.   I liked it. Few helpful reviews meant I avoided the melted cheese, so thank you reviewer community. We had the Cowboy sandwich, which has a lovely bit of brisket, some chicken wings, a burrito bowl, some salad and coleslaw. All the food was really good and to be honest a bit of a relief from scabbard, octopus, and risotto. It's just up from the Mercado on the outskirts of old town and worth a trip for something different, speedy, and very tasty.   We had the blue moon burger and the tacos with tofu. The meat was very bad quality, bacon not good either. I would say one of the worst burgers I ate in my life. Fries were okay. Tacos tasted old and dry, the tofu was not seasoned at all. They increased the prices too from the online menu, the food is not worth the price.   I felt super disappointed with the burger, the bbq sauce was like water and super sweet, it suppose to stick on the burger not drip everywhere.. and the melted cheddar cheese was like the processed nacho cheese that you get in the cinema, I wouldn't recommend it. The wings were good but extremely tiny it was funny. There is alot of room to improove and I hope they do All those reviews that claimed it was one of the best burgers, I believed them and I was very disappointed.   The place is OK, they tried with the decor, but it wasn't that nice. Riped fabric on chairs and floor boards separating, but it was clean. I had a black and blue cheeseburger, and yes, the meat was cooked on firewood but not seasoned, pickles were not good, caramelized onions overly sweet, soggy bun, weird mustard.   This was a second visit - first one about 2 years ago and as really enjoyed it so we decided to return. Place was almost empty. We decided to go for vegan option of burritos - one in tortilla the other in the bowl. First we were served the dish without tofu that was in the menu. After complaining they brought tofu. The dish was very unimaginative - rice, bean, a bit of green sauce and tiny bit of onion plus the tofu. Nothing green, not enough sauce - something you would put together when you have nothing in the fridge and no money for shopping. Not worth ordering and money paid. Service almost not existing - more interested in chatting to other team members that the actual job.   Very nice place if you are into pulled meat or burgers in general. You can create your own burger which is great for people allergic to certain types of food. The pulled pork was very juicy and tastefull. The mac and cheese had a slightly weired taste, a bit smokey (hence 4/5 stars, and the fries with cheddar sauce and bacon are nothing special), but everyone has their own taste. One big plus is the craft beer selection (the IPA is very good), and the service was very friendly and fullfilled all our special wishes (for example making sure there is no tomato or lemon on the plate etc).   Food here was good, service was lacking... We stopped for lunch today (04/11/23), the restaurant was NOT busy, 2 other tables occupied plus ours, 9 customers in total. Unfortunately they got my snug burger order wrong and my wife requested a bottle of still water as it was a blistering 25° and we had just done the cable car and the gardens but this never appeared. The waitresses spent most of the time chatting amongst themselves and checking their phones. In conclusion, the food was good but the order was wrong and no water so no tip left.   This smokehouse has a great atmosphere and decor. All the different textures and nods to the smokehouse are all great. I am from the Deep South of the U.S. where BBQ is a way of life. Everybody argues what state has the best BBQ meats, rubs, sauces, etc... I saw another southern born person say they liked it, so of course I had to try it. I got my family down to the restaurant for a treat night. Honestly, more selfishly cause I just craved some good BBQ. Lol. My husband got the brisket tacos. It was decent as far as a different kind of taco goes. BUT....I did the build your own. I got the brioche bun with pulled pork, Emental cheese, mayo, jalapenos, (forgot the dang crispy onions .... mom brain) and sweet sauce. I love me a good sweet and spicy sandwhich. Boy did I get a good one. I couldn't finish it all, gave it to my husband who even said wow...that's good. Now....word of warning if you want to get what I built...it was an 18 euro sandwhich. Would I recommend this.....absolutely. It was good. So, yes, I will go back and eat. My daughter got the cheeseburger. She liked it. We then had to get dessert. I got the oreo cheesecake. It wasn't bad at all. My daughter got the brownie with ice cream. The brownie was actually pretty good. I don't usually like restaurant brownies. The staff were very friendly and professional. Comprei o pão de brioche com carne de porco desfiada, queijo Emental, maionese, jalapenos (esqueci a maldita cebola crocante ... cérebro de mãe) e molho doce. Eu adoro um bom sanduíche doce e picante. Cara, eu consegui um bom. Não consegui terminar tudo, dei para meu marido que até disse nossa...que bom. Agora... um aviso se você quiser pegar o que eu construí... era um sanduíche de 18 euros. Eu recomendaria isso. Foi bom. Então, sim, vou voltar e comer. Minha filha pegou o cheeseburger. Ela gostou.   I'm from The South in the USA and currently live in Texas. We visited the Snug House a few days ago and were blown away by the food! I had the Big Pig (it was HUGE) the coleslaw was perfect and the pulled pork was absolutely delicious. No gross bits of fat, it was moist and perfectly sauced and to die for. I love southern style BBQ and they delivered. My mother had the pulled brisket sandwich and felt similarly about it. It was so large she only managed to eat half of it. My youngest child ordered the BBQ wings and raved about them. The oldest had the crispy chicken and said it was good, but he was hoping for southern style chicken fingers and it wasn't that. The fries are shoestring style and good. We told the staff we would be back and both kids asked to go back within 24 hours! I hope to visit one more time before we leave the island.   Honestly, really quite disappointed in The Snug after having read a great review from a Dutch blog. Service was slow, we walked in...no smile, no engagement, menus given and then 10 mins later someone wandered over to take our order. I had read that the mac and cheese was fantastic....it wasn't...virtually no sauce and just a whole load of red cheddar dumped on top. The dirty fries had the most artificial cheese I had ever tasted, and some artificial bacon bits spread over some mccains french fries. Smoked Chicken tasted ok, but it was dry.   My partners meal was good. Mine however was terrible. Ordered the brisket without bun, with fries and additions. The brisket was SOAKED in greasy oil, inedible. An aircon unit was dripping black liquid onto my head. Told them the meat was so oily it wasn't edible. They gave lame excuses and didn't even take it off the bill. Did not have a good time.   I am very happy that i found this place on my first evening in Funchal. i tried different foods, like the smoked pork ribs and the borrito bowl and have to say that the quality of the dishes is very high.   I had the Cowboy, slow cooked beef brisket with BBQ sauce, that was delicious... like a trip back home. It was served on a seeded "hoagie" bun (long roll) with a good amount of tender smokey meat and the occasional well cooked edge pieces that are a bit caramelized. 😋 The BBQ sauce is smokey with a little spicy zing, not too hot. The staff were attentive and friendly on this day. Be aware though that sitting in the outdoor seating, you may never get served. After being told I could sit there with my dog, I waited on the dingy broken plastic seating in the hot sun and finally left after 10+ minutes.   The staff are friendly and the decor is modern, but do not come here if you are looking for craft beer. (Seems to specialise in smoothies and wraps). I searched ‘craft beer’ online and this one came up, and a customer photo of a bottle of IPA confirmed it but when we arrived they only had the local Coral, of which I ordered two cañas which were approx 20 or 33cl size and the total price was 6€ something, which seems the be the most expensive in Madeira. I definitely wouldn’t return. In response, yes we definitely went to The Snug in the place marked on Google maps, and my review isn’t fake because I don’t like to spend my time writing fake reviews. I add a photo of the interior of the place I went, just in case there is an error on Google and I have it wrong. I see many of the photos are of a different interior, so maybe this is a sister company?? I’m just trying to help people who are looking for good beer, as I had triple disappointment, firstly when I asked for the selection and hoped for an IPA and APA and the lady said they only had… Coral (possible two different types of but both lager), and maybe a stout in the fridge, and then when I tasted it I didn’t enjoy the Coral at all, and then the exorbitant price, which was even double that of a flashy cocktail bar we went to in the tourist area.   Authentic smoke house / bbq restaurant. The menu offers your basic BBQ classics such as pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked chicken and burgers as well as mixed dishes.   Really good service, the staff was very attentive and friendly. Food is delicious and very generous portions, and they also have a good selection of beer on tap as well as bottled craft beer.   If you visit Madeira and you love burgers you have to visit this restaurant! We planned to eat burgers only once this vacation but ended up going there fours times in two weeks. It’s literally the best burgers we ever ate for a reasonable price. You can personalize your burger as you like and I recommend especially the beef brisket on a burger - we never ate something like this before. It’s so good.   The waitress was very friendly and attentive. 5 stars for the service and the rustic wooden ambient which I really like. Overall the food was good. The nachos were delicious, but the burger was between good and ok. The bacon strips were a bit too dry and hard and the burger patty was missing some seasoning. Sauce of the burger was good but the salad-meat ratio destroyed a bit of that taste, since there was too much salad for 200g of meat inside the burger. As always the tomato slice is tasteless, but I don't judge that anymore because that's a general problem. Good tomatoes are hard to find these days. I'm not from Madeira but I'd say that it's definitely worth the price.   Best Tex-Mex tacos I can remember ever having, and I'm a native Texan hooked on Tex-Mex! I had the mixed plate so I could taste all 3 versions, chicken, pulled pork, a d brisket. They were all dreamy, with wonderfully smoked meats, a unique BBQ sauce that shows how Portugal does so well on flavors, and just the right amount of melted cheese and veggies to blend everything perfectly.   The service was really great, friendly and quick, but the food a bit overhyped. We had nachos, which were good, but the ribs were warm only and quite dry.   I really like this place. Good selection of local and Portuguese craft beers, meat is deliciously smokey. Clean place, friendly staff.   We had tacos with chicken and a burger plain with extra caramelized onions and jalapenos, some coke and water. Reasonable pricing, european standard. The burger goes to my best 3 list! Try those onions as extra topping - perfectly made. We had better tacos before but in mexico not in madeira. Some space for potential with the cheese - should be hot. One thing: when someone asks for a recommendation, please do not only suggest the the priciest dishes on the menu.   This one is hidden away in the back streets of Funchal, loved the rustic decor and use of things like pallets. Out of summer months you may need a coat as they can't close the massive doors once opened. The range of burgers to select is impressive and if you don't like that there is a "Build your own" section to work from. When the burgers arrive which didnt take long at all, our first impression was "Wow" but you get through it quite well and don't feel bloated afterwards. Drinks selection isn't to good. They didn't have Bacardi so my other half ended up with a 60% Cuban rum equivalent..... Overall we had a very pleasant visit here. Hope they figure out how to use their very nice Bose HiFi system as the music was a bit sketchy and non existant at times 😁. Well worth a visit though as the staff are really nice. Eles não tinham Bacardi, então minha outra metade acabou com 60% de rum cubano equivalente. No geral, tivemos uma visita muito agradável aqui. Espero que eles descubram como usar seu ótimo sistema Bose HiFi, já que a música era um pouco incompleta e às vezes inexistente 😁. Vale a pena visitar, pois os funcionários são muito simpáticos.
