  Came here specifically for the piri piri chicken which was the best I’ve had so far! We sat outdoors and saw our meal being prepared on the open pit. Outdoor space in need of updates but this wouldn’t deter me from recommending/ returning. Service great and the Brazilian woman makes a nice caipirinha. The candles are good in theory, but they could use some extra lighting so you can actually see what you’re eating, particularly when you’re eating chicken with bones.   Don’t usually leave a review but this food was easily the best we’ve had in Portugal including a Michelin guide restaurant. Didn’t expect the food to be this amazing; the atmosphere may not be for everyone but do not let that stop you! The duck pate starter was good. The entrees however were amazing! The Piri piri chicken was their well known standout and had the perfect amount of kick and spice, the beef Mozambique was tender and flavorful, and the chicken pesto was not too heavy, much lighter than that in the US, but still delicious. The side salads were also great with a great dressing. The bread pudding for dessert was a perfect closing meal. Very friendly service and nice hostesses. Chicken was cooked with a strange sweet peri peri paste, almost like a chilli jam. I was unable to finish my dish, was really not suitable for my palate. Our toddler loved the bread and butter and the staff were great with him. Everything on the menu is fantastic. We were to excited to eat the food that we forgot to pause and take pictures.   As soon as we came in we felt the atmosphere. This place has a authentic feel. The personnel was friendly and attentive, imet the chef and he was also nice and welcoming. I had the sirloin steak and my girlfriend had the swordfish we were both very pleased, the portions were great, the prices very reasonable. I will definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Lagos!!   It's my first time in Portugal and in Lagos and wikivoyage said that this was the best place to get piri piri. So I came here tonight in my best as they have live band and had noted it wasn't over crowded and there were already 2 tables vacant and another couple on table for 6. Nobody was at the door so went to the bar and asked if I needed to reserve a table and they looked around and asked who for and I said just me (a medical professional on a solo trip getting some respite from work). They replied no they don't have a table but I can eat at the bar. I looked round and I was so confused and the bar was very secluded...I said not to worry it's ok... as I was leaving the waitress then comes to me and says we got a table in the garden and I was like oh great then asks how many ... (note I had already said just me and she knew). I said again oh just me.. then it's a oh no I dont think I can... this is in front of the main dining area as I am by the door and I was seriously embarrassed and upset I said it's ok don't worry I will go somewhere else .. her reply yeah maybe better... then I left I'm outside the restaurant she comes back a couple on a table for 6 offered to share their table with me. At this point I am humiliated I have been told twice they can't seat me and someone offers to allow me to sit with them in a restaurant with several tables empty.. I could not go back in and eat and I just felt like dirt after that.. I thanked then but said it's ok. I will go somewhere else. I don't have pride but I do know where I am not wanted.   Service was incredible. I don't like spicy food, so I got my sauce on the side. Accordingly, the chicken was a bit dry. My friend who ate it sauce-and-all was a bigger fan. A family owned place, and cannot recommend enough - an absolute must stop for anyone in Lagos - but honestly worth flying in from Lisbon (or even Toronto) to eat here again!   Well, where shall I start? Back in 1989 I met some people, from the Netherlands, Germany, British and so on asking me if I knew this place. At the time I was in Praia da Rocha, Portimão. When I went there it was magical, people dancing on the tables, everywhere and including Simple Minds band, turning up as any customers. Such a crazy atmosphere. Food has been always really good, but the owner and chef, has been improving the dishes, through all these decades! Family from Glasgow, with Portuguese mixing. Simply a place that I will always visit and have a great dinner and some memories from the past. It's worth going to Mullen's!   Super place, excellent food and live music which sounds really great. Highly recommend and loved it here. We were with friends and children too (10 and 12). We all loved it, also the children said that the vibe of this place was really great. The duck liver pate, fish soup, tuna steak, all were great. I feel kinda bad marking them down for this but it did let them down a little. That said good was hot and delicious so I may be being harsh. 4.5 out of 5 for sure and would definitely go back.   Real shame we had heard lots of good reviews about this place but sadly couldn't make our reservation the day before as one of the young children was unwell. We called several times and left a couple of voicemails to try and change the reservation but we had no luck getting through and no call back after the voicemail messages. I then called the following day to try and book it for that evening, I believe it was the owner who answered and he followed by telling me that I should have tried harder to contact him and he was disappointed with us. I then said we had tried calling several times and left voicemails which he responded by saying we don't check voicemails here I should of called more. Also admitted he saw our missed calls whilst driving but for some reason didn't feel the need to call us back when he had stopped driving? Very strange way to speak to a client, safe to say we will take out business elsewhere!   Nice staff, tasty food! We stumbled upon Mullen's and decided to eat there after reading the good reviews and we are not disappointed! Service is quick, food is very delicicious (we had steak with pepper sauce and the duck in orange sauce), cocktails and wine are tasty - perfect! We hat a quite long chat with one of the waitresses, all the staff is very friendly, not stressed at all even when tables are full.   What a disaster. Been waiting 1 hour for our salmon and piri piri poor dishes. No one even came to apologize. Never again. Food was oily and for sure not like described in the reviews. Unbelievable that we fell to this tourist trap. And we weren't the only one, all the other tables were waiting the same time or more. Answer to the Owner: There wasn't a bit of wait. i waited 30min for the entree dish, then canceled it after id didn't arrive. than waited more 30 min to the main dish. The apology came 1 hour after order has been made. the tables around me were miserable and hungry. If your restaurant is not suitable for so many people, so don't take any reservations. we did not drop by and had expectations. and would you like to say something about the food? it is also because it was a busy night? I had a very good sirloin steak with pepper sauce and side vegetables and a pint of beer, the price was ok (about 17€ per person).   Incredible food, great service, and awesome atmosphere. Ended up eating here twice because of the experience. Between both nights, we tried 3 different main courses(swordfish, Piri Piri chicken, beef Mozambique), 3 different appetizers(bread/olives, caprese salad, tomato/carrot soup), 3 different desserts(whiskey and bread pudding, lime cheesecake, chocolate mousse), and 2 wines(house red, house green). Every dish was stellar. There was a great looking patio, but it was a bit chilly on both nights to attempt. We lucked out with a table on the first night, but we made reservations for the second night and I would recommend you do the same. It's a packed house from ~1900 to 2230. Enjoy!
