  The cataplana with so-called "seafood" was really poor, it was obvious that they wanted to save money on us because they saw that we were from abroad, so they sold us anything.   Yesterday I visited this restaurant and the squids were bitter because they had the whole spine in them. The wine was sour and not good. Visually the food was nice, but not tasty.   Enjoyed lunch, 'neath the parasols of the Restaurante O Charco's outdoor area, in the middle of the Rua de Abril. Busy and bustling, we finally took our seats after fawning over an ancient chihuahua, that sat insouciantly on top of a street performer's accordion! The food was excellent and extremely well-priced, and our waiter was quite a character and quick on repartee.   We have eaten here before and not had too much to complain about but last night's meal was not good at all. Two of us ordered pork and beef on a skewer and the other ordered a Hawaiian pizza. It took about 20 minutes to get three beers and then almost another half hour to get the food. All three dishes were at best luke warm and the pizza was like rubber. My friend ate only two slices of pizza and rejected the rest. The pork turned out to be sausage and together with the beef it was overcooked and dry. This together with limp chips made for a totally awful meal. We won't be going back. There are too many other really good restaurants in Lagos to bother with something as bad as this.   My fiancé and me absolutely loved this restaurant! The food is high quality and the price is affordable. With many restaurants to choose from I would definitely recommend this one. When staying in Lagos for 3 nights we visited o charco twice for their piri piri chicken served with salad and French fries for only €9,50! The staff was super friendly and the location is great.   Last visited 4 years ago (Damn Covid) but have been 4 times in previous years (before Covid) and always enjoyed the food and the service. It was a pleasure to be back and enjoy the lovely service and good food. We had Portugese steak and it used to have sliced potatoes on the top BUT we were a tad disappointed with that this time as it was crisps instead of potatoes BUT the rest of the meal was lovely. There were 10 of us and we had a range of foods from spag bol, Portugese steak, pizza and house steak ALL were lovely and all our kids are every single bit of their meals.   Had the pepper steak which was served with rice for some reason. Sauce was good and steak was fine but came out well done instead of medium. Wife ordered steak Portuguese style which she loved and had admiring looks from neighbouring table. They have kids meals which made it easy for our family. Service was fine for taking the order but it took half an hour to have table cleared and pay the bill. Other tables seemed to have the same issue. A real shame.   I wouldn’t recommend this place. The atmosphere was fun, in the hustle and bustle and very lively. My partner thought it was too much, but I liked it. The food didn’t taste horrible but it tasted like something I’d put together quickly on a Wednesday evening when I’m feeling tired to cook, it was very bland. Staff was probably overworked because the restaurant was crazy busy, so they were quite rude and moody, and at the end they aggressively mentioned that table service was not included. When we left, as we were walking away from the table, only 2 feet away from the waiter I heard him complain to himself loudly (or passively aggressively to us?) that we didn’t push the chairs back in.   I would not recommend eating here, esp any fish dish. I asked which fish were fresh before ordering and the waiter started to list all of the fish on the menu, which made me dubious. I ordered Swordfish. It was extremely fishy, I have never had fish this bad, it was definitely not fresh! It came with 3 very small potatoes, some carrots, beans (I didn't eat the beans) and a basic salad, these were nice tasting and fresh. My partner had piripiri chicken and chips. The chicken was a bit overcooked and the skin soggy, so again not freshly cooked but reheated. It tasted OK though. If the waiter had been honest about the fish I would have ordered a different meal and then maybe this review would have been slightly better. Pizza was the worst one I’ve ever had, the cheese was solidified like it had been microwaved multiple times and the tuna was so dry and stale. The calamari was DISGUSTING it had sand in the middle and fleshy mush inside which made me feel sick for days after.   This place is always busy and after tonight I can see why!! Great location in the middle of old town Lagos with an outdoor dining area in the middle of the street! The two servers looked after roughly 20 tables with such efficiency that no one was left waiting too long for food or drinks! We had the Portuguese steak and the piri piri chicken!   Pleasant service but seriously poor food. We wanted to go to one of the recommended restaurants on the street but it was full. So we found this one and walked in without checking reviews. We ordered fish- cod and Tuna. Both were salty and hard! It's like when you take out frozen fish and then cook them. Secondly it was supposed to be grilled as per menu but was butter fried. Veggies were tasteless and the boiled potatoes were overcooked so that they fell apart when you pierced them. All in all, a bill of 60 euros and quality of nothing.   I’ve seen the restaurant had a few bad reviews after we had already ordered our drinks. But thought we would still give it a try, and the restaurant was very busy 🤷🏼‍♂️ not a bad sign surely.   I had the Chicken Piri Piri and my wife had the grilled mackerel, if you realize these meals cost about the same as a big Mac menu... It's a fantastic deal, the food was not spectacular but just a solid meal drinks had a fair price as well... If you are in for some nice food and don't want to break the bank I'd advice going here.   Service was excellent. Place was packed with people queuing to come in. I ordered Swordfish which was just to my taste. Friend had pork which was a bit tough but overall the meal was very nice. Very good portion size, served quickly. Also the table layout means you're not squashed in to the people on the next table. Which is greatly preferred. Very good value for the price.
