  We love this place and make sure we visit everytime we are in Lisbon. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Food is delicious and plentiful. Eating all of it (yes, i did!) sent me on a food coma... but I couldn't stop myself. [The group from France next to me was surprised I was able to eat all of it. LoL] The Shrimp soup was delicious, but the three Shrimp pieces hit that "overcooked" point. No stars deducted, I still enjoyed it. Just a warning that it could happen.   Ordered bbq cod and it was too salted to eat. I could try only a little bit of cod with veggies and gave up the rest. The guy from the restaurant said it was curing cod and that was the reason it was salty. My wife had prawn curry and she really tried hard to finish her dish but couldn't. A lot of shrimps with curry sauce and rice and that was it! Don't they know how to cook it or just simply the more the better? Having had dinner at Colina on the suggestion from the guy at the hotel reception. Wish I could've read the reviews before going, maybe I would've changed my mind.   Not recommended at all We went to this restaurant based on the recommendation of the hotel we were staying at. As soon as we arrived there, they put two small appetizers that we had not even ordered on our table without asking us whether we wanted them or not. When we wanted to pay, we realized that they had charged us for those small appetizers, as well as for a couple of tiny containers of side sauces and butter. They even wanted to charge us for bred that they had not put on the table. When we asked why , they said this is Portuguese culture and we had to learn it before travelling to Portugal. We were to so many different Portuguese restaurant the days before and this had never happened. It is a way of deceiving tourists and not being honest. It has anything with the Portuguese culture. The outside dinning area was virtually empty so no excuse that staff were stressed and as we had been placed opposite the tv playing football I asked if we could be moved. Service was friendly but they were very busy and got distracted. The wine we ordered we didn't receive until our meals showed up.   Food was good… service was terrible. We only ended up having soup because the server was so rude to us. The man outside greeting us with dark glasses in plain clothing who spoke to us in Portuguese was friendly. However, our server who was an older man with glasses was extremely unpleasant. If I could give 0 stars for service I would. We sat down and immediately he came over asking us what we wanted to order without giving us much time to view the menu. We said we would order drinks first and then food after and he said we had to order everything right away and needed to decide. What restaurant that is practically empty at 11pm at night makes you order everything all at once? We were already uncomfortable with the way he spoke to us so instead we only ordered 4 soups. Then he proceeded to walk over to his colleagues and start mocking us for only ordering soups… in Portuguese, as if we didn’t understand (we all speak Portuguese and English) …absolutely unacceptable!! What restaurant treats their customers in this way? Our hotel recommended us this restaurant but we told our hotel immediately upon coming back not to recommend this restaurant any longer to travellers.   The service here isn't great. A lot of servers walking around but mostly on there phones or watching the football (soccer) game. We ordered the veal chop and pork steaks. We didnt have to wait all that long for our food. The fries that came with the dish were soggy and very greasy The meat however was cooked to perfection. Extremely tender and great flavour.   Having seen previous favourable reviews we decided to book here for our last night in Lisbon.Sadly a very big mistake.. i dont know whether it was because we are English, but our reserved table was in the furthest corner by the servery door. Several waiters seemed surprised that a table was there and they couldnt use it. The door was opened so that a kitchen hand could pass kitchen towel across our table to a waiter.Other diners were given a local delicacy on arrival - we were not. Other diners who arrived after us were served first. I ordered sardines for starters expecting fresh sardines, but silly me,no they must have come from the tin.Main courses were ok but the vegetables of green beans and boiled potatoes were not fresh by any means or stretches of the imagination. The waiter seemed very surprised that we didnt want any desserts.   We came on a recent Friday night for dinner. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated in a reasonable time. Staff spoke limited English but it still worked out. When I first arrived a female server made it clear she doesn't speak English. I apologized for not speaking Portuguese but her attitude was disappointing. I've worked in the restaurant industry and regardless of the language of your patron, you serve them with a smile on your face. You make it work. If she is that insecure about not speaking English then she should learn. Otherwise, do your job. She was very slow. I would have had one more glass of wine, but she was so slow I just decided to order dinner. I guess the restaurant isn't focused on making money. If they don't want money from English-speakers, they should post a sign: "ENGLISH SPEAKERS NOT WELCOME" Half-way through service, an English-speaking server took over. Such a breath of fresh air. Not because of the English but because of the attitude. But guess what! The moment I dropped my cash for the bill and left a generous tip (meant for the servers who did a great job) she came running to grab it. Never saw her move so quickly. The grilled fish was fresh but the Pork and clams Aletejana was absolutely floating in grease and under braised. Another dish, beef cordon blue, was ok but completely dry. At the end if the meal, I asked if they meant for the Aletejana to be so oily? And we could hear the waitstaff complaining about the stupid “Americans” not knowing anything about food.   I've been to Colina many times over the years. I travel to Lisbon for business often and it has become a regular go to restaurant if I'm in the area. Service has always been great and they are attentive. The last few times I've visited the food has been good, however not great, as it's been in the past. This last time I got a basic "à brás" dish and it was more like potatoes with scrambled eggs, cooked a bit too long, and the shrimp were also hard and overcooked. My partner got a baked bacalhau dish and loved it. I guess it depends on the chef and the complexities of the dish. I would still return, but likely order a different dish. They may not pay as much attention to basic dishes as they do to others but it's still a great restaurant to visit in that area.   Colina was recommended to use by the hotel concierge. It appeared to be a mid-range restaurant but the atmosphere was very busy and formal attire but less than formal atmosphere. After being seated, we were asked to move tables due to a larger group of people coming in- we obliged. The food was decent. The cost of two meals, a bottle of wine and one dessert was 37€, but that seemed a little pricey to be honest. Upon paying the bill, the waiter brought our change back and asked what hotel we were staying and then went to talk to another waiter AND left with our change. He never returned. As we were leaving the restaurant, he was standing outside and so we asked why he asked the hotel we were staying and he told us it was because it was a local place that tourist didn’t usual go/ we didn’t ask for our change.   Recommended by our hotel. Must be a relative. We were hungry from all day travel and got there about 4:30. It was open but still in the process of prepping for evening customers. I think the staff was having a competition as to who could be louder - both by yelling at each other and by throwing the cutlery into the storage bins. Other staff were rolling large garbage bins and shopping carts in and out of the restaurant through the front door and luckily for us, beside our table. For traditional Portuguese food, it was lacking in both flavour and lustre. I had the vegetable soup which was rice in a broth with a few green things floating in it. My partner had the cordon blue smothered in fries. Very little flavour except for the overpowering blue cheese in about one or two bites of the total meal. Overall, this was a disappointment and for €43 for soup, croquettes, one meal and two small bottles of wine I don’t feel it is worth the the effort and cost especially after listening to the banter (arguments?).   I went to this place on the recommendation of the person who checked me in at my hotel. It was on the late side on a Monday night (close to 9 PM) and I asked what was available for dinner that was open until at least 11 PM. She pointed me to this establishment and said they offered good Portuguese fare. I can now say that she was absolutely correct. The storefront was unobtrusive and, even though the facility was spacious, it was still rather crowded despite the late hour. Nonetheless, I was able to be seated. English was not a problem in placing my order. The wait staff were very professional, and very good at what they did. The menu was largely Portuguese and there were several interesting choices. I had the shrimp croquettes as an appetizer, which served as a nice starter. I chose the shrimp in curry sauce for my main, which was very good. In general, I was quite happy with the quality of my fare. With food and drinks, the bill was €27.50. This was just over $30 USD with the conversion at the time. This was quite reasonable considering the quality of the fare. If you are in the neighborhood and are interested in Portuguese fare, this is a good bet.   Busy place but we were at a table within about 10 minutes although it was kind of odd waiting as nobody came over to us. I had the grilled cod and it was actually very good, however I do not like all the oil on the bottom of the plate that seems to be prevalent here. However the shrimp curry was not so good, the shrimp were tasteless and not enough curry sauce to cover the rice. if you want a good piece of cod that's grilled I'd recommend it anything else try somewhere else.   It is a typical Portuguese restaurant, full with locals. It looks like a canteen. The waiters do not speak English but in the menu there is a column with food in English. The food is OK, not something special, but the prices are pretty high. They bring on the table different starters which are then added to the payment note.   I asked the waiter for suggestions with choosing the cod dish as they had baked, grilled and another one with sauces. His description helped me to choose the one I liked which was baked cod with potatoes. I ordered the house white wine with it. They were both delicious.   Tourist trap - don't eat the complimentary starters that you didn't order because you are charged for them. What should have been a fairly inexpensive meal wound up over 50 euros. Food wasn't great, salty and there were no vegetables apart from a plate of lettuce that could be ordered, and our meals didn't come with veg the way that some other people's did. Service was OK.   We're told to go up back and find a set. Sitting down there is bagged roles, glad wrapped cheese, and some sort of meat dish out in front of us. The waiter promptly came to take our order of which we'd decided on the Portuguese steak. There was no other questions, nothing about how we'd like the steak, or what sides etc. When asked where drinks we'd like I answered with what is the common response in Portugal "red wine please" and the voice back at me was simply "bottle?" Of which it just took a look for the waiter to understand "of course". Our steaks arrived on a silver plate and I was surprised by the level of skill in the silver service used to move the steak and gravy to our plates. The steaks themselves were what I'd say is bad at best. Very dry, very over cooked, and in NZ I'd have sent them back in a heartbeat. The potatoes however where good. What I'm struggling with at the moment is how to pay at the end of the meal. It's very American style where you ask for the cheque and wait. However we spent longer waiting for the cheque than we did ordering and waiting for our food. I don't think the NZ way of walking up to the counter to pay is done at all, and would cause great confusing. Average meal.   Eight of us went to Colina for our final meal in Portugal. What a wonderful choice! One of the specials for the day was barbecued cod. We were advised that an order would serve two so we ordered it for everyone. It was served swimming in olive oil and perfectly cooked broccoli. The fish was succulent and the few bones easy to remove. These of course were washed down with Portuguese red and white wines. During dinner we kept eyeing a giant marange in the dessert case. We ordered two slices to share and it came with caramel sauce and a sprinkle of nuts. The total price was €122. Wow!   Warning: This place is a RIP OFF, especially for tourists. They put a lot of nibbles on the table and they don’t tell you it’s NOT free, they will charge €0.5-1 per item, such as a tiny butter, jam or piece of bread. Additionally the menu they provide have two sections, one in Portuguese and the other in English. They have the same items but the English menu have higher prices (an example, cordon bleu is €12.10 on the Portuguese menu and €19.80 on the English menu). The waiter got annoyed that I used google translate to find use the Portuguese menu and he kept asking my girlfriend to use the English menu. When you order a glass of wine they open a bottle, when tell them you didnt order a bottle, they give you an annoyed look, that only a bottle is possible, obviously at this point you don't have a choice.
