  This restaurante is a scam. They bring you different bites to the table and the waiter leave it there without saying anything, and then when they bring you the check, thet charge you 3€ for the bread, 3 € for the butter, and 9 € for a plate of cheese. When you tell them that they brought this but you didn’t ask for it, they say that you should know that everything that they put in the table is not for free. That is absolutely a scam.   We were recommended by our Airbnb tenant to this restaurant near by. To our surprise, we found that this restaurant has a 5 stars rating, food was excellent and the service was tip top and very attendant. Further more, we had complimentary sea food soup and at the end of our dinner, we were served Portuguese sweet wine. Very good service & price in Lisbon.   This restaurant came highly recommended by our Airbnb host. Ironically, it was the worst meal we had in Lisbon. The appetizers were good (clams and sardines), but we also ordered soups that were so salty they were inedible. As the night went on, the service went from attentive and friendly to condescending. The waiter frequently smirked at us when she asked how our meal was. I felt like we were increasingly punished by the staff because we didn’t fall for their gambit of bringing out bread, olives, and charcuterie early in the night. And it just got worse from there.   Excellent Portuguese 🇵🇹 restaurant where I tried the grilled Sardines though it’s off season they felt fresh. Good dining experience and it’s a little space with more staff to serve as I felt. It’s nice to have attentive staff around. One of the Asian staff (Korean I presume) was quite efficient and courteous. Others were Bangladeshi were also good. The fish soup was served as complimentary by the chef is a nice touch and appreciated. The bread basket was left on the table along with cheese and ham. It’s good of them to mention it’s not complimentary as otherwise we would have thought it otherwise as they are complimentary by tradition. The food was authentic and I appreciated the ambience and well kept atmosphere. I was the only other customer slowly it for filled up.   We hadn’t been to the place and found the restaurant in The Fork that offered a 30% discount if booked in this site. The food was ok, service correct, place meh. The problem was the owner that didn’t honor the 30% and never offered an option but to pay full price even if we showed him the reservation and terms. His attitude was bad. Would not return. There are plenty of other restaurants with the same menu and better prices.   This is a delightful restaurant full of old charm. The staff were friendly, polite and very helpful and the service was attentive yet unobtrusive. The complimentary soup was a nice touch. We had the fillets of bream baked in the oven Portuguese style - a taste sensation. The house wine was very good and reasonably priced and we had a lovely 10 year old tawny port with our coffee.   I was blown away by how good this restaurant was, and was my favourite so far on our trip to Europe. The portion sizes, price and the quality of the dishes were great. The other restaurants we visited had very high prices and low portion size.   Nice dinner in a decent Portuguese restaurant in a busy neighbourhood. Food was a positive experience, and wine recommendation was first rate. But ... someone needs to explain to the service staff that arguing loudly with guests, after making mistakes and getting orders wrong, is a bad policy. Luckily, the Restaurant Manager stepped in, shooed the waiters away, and rescued the situation.   The experience was brilliant. They were super careful with the service. Always available and attentive (they even served water just when the glass was immediately empty). They gave us a tasty soup for free when we sat to eat. When we arrived, with reservation, the table was all prepared with cheese and bread that you could eat (but you have to pay for it). Came on my birthday as we were walking around looking for a place to eat dinner and stopped here. starting off, the waiters were very nice and attentive but none of them speak english and weren’t able to communicate with us easily. They started off by putting the dry bread, charcuterie platter, olives and butter on the table. Where we’re from, it’s customed that all appetizers placed on the table are included with the meal. especially after receiving a complimentary soup, we just had a little taste of each thing (a couple olives, 3 slices of cheese, a little spread of butter and maybe one piece of bread). To our surprise, when the check arrived there was an additional €25 charge on all of the appetizers we thought was included. when we tried to explain to the server and then manager that we did not know and the additional charge, and that no one told us that it’s optional and it’s not something we are used to he tried to argue by saying that they did warn us and also it’s common knowledge in europe. i’m so glad that i didn’t order a dessert or any alcohol cause i don’t even want to know how much that would’ve came out to.   TOURISTS BEWARE! We usually do research and read reviews on places to eat. Walking through Chiado, this was an unplanned stop and got scammed. The waiter put food (small charcuterie, bread, butter, olives and sou) on our table that we DID NOT order and said it was complimentary. We ate some of it. We were shocked they charged €16 on our bill. In looking back we noticed that some tables did not get the “complimentary” food….must be locals who know the restaurant’s practice. The food was decent.   I loved the food and the service at this restaurant. We were offered free soup at the beginning and shots at the end of the dinner. I liked that they didn’t push the “couvert” (bread, cheese, olives) but asked politely if we wanted them. Giving 4 stars because the dessert wasn’t great.   TOURIST TRAP! Don't go there. They will “give” you dishes you didn't asked for. And then make you pay for it. Doesn't matter you eat it or not. Obviously they didn't do it to the table next to us where people were Portuguese. They even counted 2 plates of bred (6€ each) even though we had only one on the table. They gave me free fish soup “on the chef” that I didn't asked for. When I said I didn't want it she rolled up her eyes.. Sorry for being allergic?? I felt forced to pay for dishes (ham and cheese) I didn't even wanted. At the end the receipt was quite expensive for honestly, nothing exceptional.   I was carrying a crying baby and stopped by here to grab a bite despite the fact that this place has a bad review. I did not want to walk any further. We ordered filet mignon with mushroom sauce, squid dish and shrimp & clam rice. Oh my god. Filet mignon was one of the best steak I had on this trip ( probably 20th one I had so far on this trip). They were very friendly yet professional. Prices are way reasonable. We sure will come back again!   As a seafood rice lover, I really wanted to love this meal. Unfortunately what I got was a overly salty stew with not-so-fresh ingredients. The rice had very little seafood (shrimp and clams), and simply lacked flavor. On top of that, the server seemed to have intentionally ignored me when I requested for change. I only gave it 2 stars because another kind waiter attended to my request after I brought up the issue. If you love seafood rice, do not come here. I went on a Saturday and it was obviously packed with people, upon asking for a table and knowing that it will be some time before getting one, the waiter offered us few seats next to the restaurant and got us wine!   From my four decades of restaurant experience in Portugal, it is possible to state that this restaurant ranges amongst the top typical Portuguese. Service was excellent, considering that on a busy Sunday evening all tables were taken. It is true that it did take some time for our first dish to arrive, but we had time to enjoy a really runny queijo de serra and an excellent rare bottle of Murganheira Millésime Pinot Noir 1999, which can take it up with any Champagne Millésime. The wine list is one if the most impressive that one can find in Lisbon, even if not all of the wines are still on offer. We shared a huge selection of fresh grilled fish and had to admit defeat. All of the pieces were perfectly grilled. Lovers of Portuguese wines should come here. The Portuguese themselves evidently are amongst the regulars here.   We went there on a Saturday night with two of us and ate the baked cod and the vegetables in puff pastry with fries. The staff was friendly and above all efficient, because of the way they work. Indeed, it did not seem that tables were assigned to each waiter, but rather that one waiter was responsible for the drinks, another for clearing the table, etc... This same system was however in our case penalizing since 4 waiters almost gave meat to the person who indicated to be vegetarian several times. The starters were correct and the melon was especially sweet. The main courses however left something to be desired. The cooking of the cod was not mastered and the vegetables were swimming in oil, beyond what was due to the sloping table. In addition, the spinach did not look or taste fresh, probably having been prepared far too early. Even more, although the fries were hot, none of the ones we tasted were crispy.   We couldn't find a restaurant to eat on Sunday night as many restaurants were closed on Sundays. We stopped here , the food was good , it was not a typical Portuguese restaurant but still good. The chef brought us some fish soup that we didn't order to compensate for the waiting time , which was really nice. We have not been given bread or butter but I am aware that they give you some bread and olives that you haven't ordered but as you consume it you will pay for that.   This restaurant had the best food I’ve ever eaten in Lisbon. To start- I ordered the red sangria which was fruity but not too sweet and had huge chunks of fruit in it.   We wanted to go to a different restaurant, but they were booked solid and suggested Alfaia. Food is okay . BE WARNED - they put lots of tidbits out as soon as you are seated (fresh cheese, olives, salami, basket of bread, butter, spreading cheese). All of it has a price and can add to your bill rather mightily. Ask for it to be removed immediately, unless you know the price of what you want. Also, their olives are awful.   Found this place since they advertise that Amex customers are welcome, wasn't disappointed! I had the fish soup for starters and caldeirada de peixe for mains alongside a carafe of locally sourced vinho verde. Food was delightful and so was the wine. The sole reason Alfaia doesn't merit 5 stars is the fact the pasta in the fish soup was slightly overcooked and the potato slightly undercooked. Arguably however, this is a matter of personal taste. In Alfaia's defense, I spent several hours enjoying my meal perched outside in their quaint Lisbon thoroughfare; if I wasn't content I would've spent an hour at most.   We were a group of 7 people. The service was very nice. Food could have been better. I order rice with clamps and shrimps and it was not very tasty. i didn't try ghe other food but the rabbit and octopus looked very dry. I didn't pay,but for the menu probably the price was overrated.   If you like fish Alfaia is the place to visit in Lisbon (Bairro Alto area). I went there with my friend and we had a great time. Delicious food & fresh fish on the menu. Very attentive and polite staff will take care of you until you leave. I will recommend Tuna Steak or Sole.   Nice surprise in the Bairro Alto! Wegen we went for dinner in the middle of this very touristic area, we did not expect too much, so we were really surprised to find this place with really good food, nice service and reasonable prices. It was already a good sign that the waiters were not trying to convince tourists to come in or take a seat, obviously there are enough people who know about the place and enjoy it.   Let me start of with the wine card, damn this is extensive. I am yet to see a second restaurant to surpass this. Prices for all ofthe bottles are reasonable and even for 20 euro's you will have a red wine riped on oak barrels with a fresh taste (from Portugal ofcourse). Prices for main dish are average (9-19 euro's) which, considering their steak was beautiful and their cordon blue was on point, is very good. The service was very nice and, as it should be, we were not able to drink our glasses dry. There is one final thing one should note though, the starters are pushed up in your face everywhere in lisbon. If you dont want any that is fine, if you do, just choose them. Dont be impressed and take your time. Not many tourists are used to this and will complain once they see the bill. Just take your time looking at the prices before chosing.   At first sight a good address but if you can compare with other restaurants afterwards it's a tourist trap. We orderd a plate with shrimps and we got garnals !!!   Quality/ price ratio is very good. I see several tourists expecting super cheap, but they should look at quality. It's still very cheap, try eating fish elsewhere in Europe, you'll get frozen stuff for twice. Atmosphere and waiters are good too. White wine from Douro was good. Vejo vários turistas esperando super barato, mas devem se atentar à qualidade. Ainda é muito barato, experimente comer peixe em outro lugar da Europa, você receberá coisas congeladas duas vezes. A atmosfera e os garçons também são bons. O vinho branco do Douro era bom. As azeitonas e o presunto no início são bons, se você está aqui para notar que essas coisas vão para outro lugar :)
