  Oh, This is a Great Place! Delicious food, friendly people, lovely mood. Although the restaurant is not so big and probably you will have to wait for the table (in our case it was only about 15 minutes), it is definitely worth to spend these extra minutes for waiting and then enjoying to stay here for next 1-2 hours.   Food was decently good. But there was a big ethical issue: hey asked us if we would like to try the small cod pastries. We said yes, assuming it’s on the house. Then they charge us for it.   Worst restaurant in Lisbon we’ve visited in the last 10 years. We got food poisoning here, this place is filthy. Sad middle aged chubby balding waiters who obviously hate their lives and take it out on the patrons. Socially inept WEIRD behavior. Owner and waiters are grown men that act like children.   Honestly it was the best food and service I’ve had throughout my 3 week Europe trip. The food was amazing - get the seafood rice, mussel w butter sauce, prawn gambas and the cod fish soup.   The large prawns are amazing. They are on the expensive side $80 per kg but definitely get at least one. I got the grilled one, you can also order them boiled. The bean seafood stew was ok.   The food is cheap, especially compared to other restaurants in the area, you get a lot of high quality, high value food, for a decent price. We had the fish plate for two, the shrimp omlette, the mixed salad, the shrimp soup and the sea fruit rice dish on two seperate days. No complains here. its close to the castle, full, but not too crowded. Our waiter Pedro was fast, friendly and always up for a good joke. Only the toilets might need a quick renovation.   The server got mad when we only ordered a couple small food items and drinks. Wasn’t sure if they just opened (& maybe for us?) but I wouldn’t go back. Garlic shrimp was good, however overpriced compared to other local fare (reason for 3 stars).   We ordered off the handwritten menu. Every single thing we ordered was great; Grilled swordfish, Grilled octopus, Grilled black pork and even the oven baked chicken. I came with my Asian parents as a recommendation from our tuktuk driver, and we were hesitant about the restaurant because it mentioned discrimination against Asians and unfortunately we did feel like we were. we had to fight to get our order taken.   We hoped to go to a nice traditional Portuguese restaurant but were quite dissapointed. Firstly, the waiter was pushy, suggesting the (most expensive) seafood platter all the time. We were not impressed with our food, missing spices and limited taste. To complete, there was no charming interior or nice background music whatsoever. We wished we went somewherelse.   One of the best restaurant experiences we had in Lisbon. It is not a chic type of place but the food is excellent and the service is even better. GET THE SHRIMP.   We visited the restaurant after it was recommended to us. Unfortunately I must have gotten unlucky with the food choice. I ordered mussles with onion sauce. Very salty for my liking but I finished the mussles which were OK. The main was bean stew which I probably didn't appreciated as much after the salty starter which was a shame. The restaurant was full at lunch time and there was a queue so maybe I just got unlucky with the dish choice. My partner had seabass and that was tasty.   I ordered sea food with rice but you could taste just coriander, was really overpowering. Then I asked for pepper and virgin oil which the virgin oil was tasteless. It was not good. Also had a lot of sea food sticks which is a poor imitation of crab meat-(kanikama). The cheese was ok, and the bolinho de bacalhau was cold. They put on the table 2 right away, so just be aware.   We stumbled across Alpendre, and are we ever glad we did! It is clearly loved by locals judging by the amount that were there during our visit. It is our first day in Lisbon, so we felt a little unsure what to order, but with the help of our amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable server, Pedro. We picked the garlic shrimp, which was fresh and delicious, and Pedro also supplied fresh bread to soak up all the garlic juices. We also had the ham and melon. The ham was mouth-watering, and the melon was really sweet and incredibly juicy. Our main was the Meat plate for two. It was a perfect amount of everything, perfectly cooked! The beer was chilled to perfection and served in a funky just of of the freezer mug. We are only here for 4 days but already plan to visit at least once more before we head on to our next city. The main service guy was also very rude to other guests if they didn’t do it the way he intended it. We ate veal steak and cod, and we left almost all veal plate and even were not asked why..   Ordered the seafood in cooked rice and it was hands down my best meal in Lisbon during my short stay there. I was so focused on eating that I didn't realise an hour had passed! The broth is rich and full of umami flavours, and they were also very generous with the seafood. Had a glass of Portuguese green wine to go with the meal and it was perfect. Staff were friendly as well, though a little cheeky. Will be back with my friends in future hopefully!   It is quite an experience to visit Alpendre. The choice of foods is solid, going way beyond fish and seafood like in many other restaurants in the area. There are some locals eating in this place, which together with the menu and decor makes it more of an event than just a meal. We were served by an extremely energetic waiter, who was helpful in picking the right options from the card, as well as recommended good, reasonably priced wine to our choices.   Had a very high expectation of this place and was excited to dine here. Service was horrible. Didn't bring out our drinks until 10-15 minutes later and when they did, they mixed up both drinks and didn't even offer to correct their mistake. When we came to Portugal 4 years ago, we got such a good impression that we wanted to return at one point. After 4 years we come back here and this place gave us a huge disappointment.   Fairly disappointed especially after reading some of the reviews on here. ’Home style’ cod fish was hard and chewy, shrimps were not well cleaned and lacked flavor, seafood rice was flavorful but more of a soup... Although we were two people, we were guided to a table for four thus we sat in a comfortable position, but suddenly the staff or owner(bot sure he acted like hes's an owner- arrogant and overbearing attitude) came and told us to move the seat to the side because it was inconvenient to serve for him. The staff is super proactive and accommodating to both groups/couples and solo travellers, besides Portuguese, the staff speaks English and Spanish well, and they are humorous too!   The seafood was fantastic and the service was very friendly and helpful, particularly in how to eat the Barnacles! The razor clams were superb, oysters on the half shell were so fresh!! The seafood soup with clams, mussels, crab and langostino with rice is not to be missed. The desserts looked homemade, but no room after our most delicious feast! We stumbled upon this restaurant walking down from the castle and were rewarded with a BEST and a very memorable meal in Lisbon!   After searching for around an hour for good food, we got lucky and managed to stumble across this authentic local Portuguese restaurant. From the moment we entered their premises we were greeted with big smiles from their staff and noticed that the customers sitting down were having a good time.   I know my seafood and this place is amazing. Had the cooked rice with seafood and the swordfish, on the staff’s recommendation. He also suggested a great bottle of wine.   Happened upon this @this typical Portuguese food place when hungry, thirsty, & sick of walking around the city with no real expectation. We were pleasantly surprised by the better than average fried cod cake appetizers, delicious octopus salad. The constantly up selling waiter convinced me to get the shrimp omelet instead of grilled octopus. Big mistake. The omelette was TINY with 2 shrimp cut into fourths (yes, I actually counted) and lots of homemade potato chips on the plate. Husband loved his seafood rice and melon & prosciutto.   Very nice restaurant , just up the road a stone throw away from Lisbon Cathedral. We had prawn fried in garlic & olio, creamy prawn soup, grilled sea bass, grilled octopus ,clams and seafood rice.   Wonderful dinner! I think this was probably the best meal we had in Lisbon, or one of them! To start off we had the basic starter with bread, butter, and cheese which was good. We had the garlic shrimp with a side of rice which was delicious. We also ordered the mixed grilled meat for two, which was beef, pork, and sausage, which came with potato fries and salad. All of the food was delicious! Their piri piri is also homemade, which we asked for. If they sold it, I would’ve bought some to take home! VERY hot, so be careful when/if you ask for it. Ordered rice pudding for dessert, which brought back memories of my aunt’s when she used to make it. It’s a very authentic Portuguese dessert, as well as the rest of their menu. The only thing I would say is that the Sangria could be a bit stronger. I’m not sure if they use pink wine or put too much soda, but I like my Sangria a little stronger. Still giving 5 stars, because that’s just my preference. If you like something stronger, I would suggest their house wine, which many people around us were ordering. Cool thing: their beer is served in ice cold metal mugs, which keeps your beer super cold for a long time while looking awesome! All in all, I would 100% recommend those restaurant to anyone looking for traditional Portuguese food. Amazing food for a great price! Penso que esta foi provavelmente a melhor refeição que tivemos em Lisboa, ou uma delas! Para começar tivemos a entrada básica com pão, manteiga e queijo que era bom. Comemos camarão com alho acompanhado de arroz que estava delicioso. Pedimos também a carne mista grelhada para dois, que era bovina, suína e linguiça, que acompanhava batata frita e salada. Toda a comida estava deliciosa! O piri piri deles também é caseiro, o que pedimos. Se eles vendessem, eu teria comprado alguns para levar para casa! MUITO quente, então tome cuidado quando/se você pedir. Pedi arroz doce de sobremesa, o que me trouxe lembranças da época em que minha tia o preparava. É uma sobremesa portuguesa muito autêntica, assim como o resto do seu menu. A única coisa que diria é que a sangria poderia ser um pouco mais forte. Não tenho certeza se usam vinho rosé ou colocam muito refrigerante, mas gosto da minha sangria um pouco mais forte. Continuo dando 5 estrelas, porque essa é apenas a minha preferência. Se você gosta de algo mais forte, sugiro o vinho da casa, que muitas pessoas ao nosso redor estavam pedindo. Legal: a cerveja deles é servida em canecas de metal geladas, o que mantém sua cerveja super gelada por muito tempo e com um visual incrível! Em suma, recomendo 100% esses restaurantes a quem procura comida tradicional portuguesa. Comida incrível por um ótimo preço! Tudo o que foi mencionado acima custou 60€ por MUITA comida além de um litro de sangria e uma cerveja!

  Giant portions, both soups were excellent. All fresh fish (they cut filets right from the fish on display in the window), octopus was wonderful. Crazy good value.   On my last night in Lisbon I made my way to this restaurant as I wanted some nice fish before flying home. I politely asked the waiter at the front of the restaurant if they were still serving food, to which the waiter said no, then after a second said he was joking. Upon being seated, and ordering some fish, I was told I could not have a red wine: that I must order a beer, so going with it (the recent religious festival calls for fish and beer drinking) I ordered a large beer. After ten minutes wait, during which the waiter was not especially busy, I got brought a metal receptical (such as those used for milkshakes) with a frothy liquid in it, and was told it was the cappuccino I ordered; the waiter then walked away as I tried to resolve the matter. After a few minutes I took the 'cappuccino', which probably was beer, up to the counter and asked if I had done something to offend him. I was told the 'cappuccino' was the beer I ordered. I then walked out, with another waiter saying my fish was on the way, and that they were just having a joke with me.   We stayed at a hotel in Alfama and our receptionist recommended to have dinner at Restaurante Alpendre (sé). As we arrived had to wait 30 minutes to get a table but it was totally worth it! The restaurant is small but cozy and the food is amazing! The staff is very friendly and funny, we had a great time here and came here twice during our stay in Lisbon.   Great place with great food and very friendly staff! As many reviewers said already, they try to joke with you all the time. They are very friendly to kids too. Even though they only had one high chair (and we were there with three kids all together) it was not a big problem. We really enjoyed food, atmosphere, and interactions with the staff.   OK food, we had the shrimp with garlic (10 Eur) and grilled calamari (13.5). Both were extremely overcooked. Calamari was so burned it was bitter.   I went for lunch and absolutely loved the food here. I initially wanted cataplana but unfortunately, they only served in portions of two people. Hence, I ordered the seafood rice instead. And it was divine. The risotto-like dish was flavourful and filled with the most mouthwatering seafood. Service was pretty good. My waiter had a good sense of humour and was generally prompt in bringing everything. Ambience was cozy and very local.   We ran in here randomly an afternoon just because the resto looks full and the menu looks good. After trying the gambas, clams and grilled octopus, we feel lucky to have been here and have such great food. The only thing we didn't like is the server who was a bit weird, making jokes that's not even funny. We'd certainly recommend this place.   Wow wow wow. Really great little restaurant enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. I had the prawn soup, the octopus and finished with the chocolate mousse.   This Restaurent is brilliant. On a recent visit to Lisbon we dined here 2 nights out of the the 4 nights of our stay. After our first visit on Day 1, we would have happily dined here for dinner and lunch. But we thought that we better give some other restaurants a try! The food is excellent and the steaks that I had were amongst the best I have ever tasted. My wife's 2 fish dishes were excellent too. Try the Cream of Shrimp starter - Magnificent! The cost of both our meals was very reasonable. We have paid double the price at other restaurants with inferior food and service. All the above is very important when having a meal. But it would be nothing without quality service. Alex and Antonio were very friendly, attentive, funny and their personal service was marvellous.   Stumbled on this place while hiking up to our apt in Alfama. Stopped for early dinner (7pm is early by Portuguese std) and were glad we did!
