  One of my favourite restaurants in Lisbon. It’s a charming place by the river with a good decoration inspired by Charles Darwin’s trips and studies. High ceiling, natural light, great view and amazing food! The oysters are super fresh and although I have tried most of the menu by now, I have to say my favorite pick as a main course is the shrimp and octopus risotto with sun dried tomato and coriander (the duck risotto in orange sauce is also a great contender).   We enjoyed our meal here the most during our 3-day visit in Lisbon, in terms of food, wine, atmosphere, and view. We are used to the 3-4 times marked up of restaurant wine in the US. So to have a bottle of good vinho verde for €16, it was such a treat. The refreshing wine was a great match for the perfectly grilled octopus and shrimp pasta.   Good service and personnel although for the price the food did not live up to expectations. We are a family of 7. With 1 burratta to share, 2 kids menu, 2 salads, 1 risotto and 2 stakes + 1 ice cream and a chocolate cake to share we paid over 200 euros (no wine, just water and 2 sodas). It would be ok if the food would be great but it was average at best. The deco is ok but some lights are out of order (the big W in white and some sentence compositions) which for me is distracting.   We went by car and had to park at the public parking at the minus level. From there, we came up and entered the restaurant after getting the direction from a security person to the door. Till then it felt a bit strange. Soon this was flooded by a surprise, looking at the way the restaurant opened up in front of us. They got a huge place with indoor and outdoor seating. The latter is river facing. Their food and especially value for money are as astonishing as looks. We had salmon and duck with risotto. Both were done with a touch. The mild sweetness added to the risotto rose up the flavours from the duck. With five beers, two main courses and two coffee, we paid only 70€. Worth a visit and to have a relaxed dinner facing the river. Peaceful you will feel which definitely an added value to any family dinner.   Don’t understand how this place is so well-rated or expensive. We got high tea, since it was too early for dinner. The hostess immediately acted like us being there was a big bother, I haven’t encountered anyone that rude at the front of the house in a long time. Our waiter was lovely but forgot one of the three food items we ordered (there were two tables per server, so it’s not like it was overwhelmingly busy). Food itself was blah; not bad, but not particularly good either. Veal sandwich with egg only had an egg on on half of the sandwich; I guess they couldn’t afford a second egg on a 10 euro sandwich?   I cannot recommend Darren‘s café enough. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it’s fancy (not the kind you have to dress up for though) and truly such a wonderful experience. The entire place is like a shrine to Darwin, so for any Darwin fans, this is your place. There are Darwin quotes on the walls, a giant bookcase, Animal drawings from his journals, and the food is exquisite! There are so many options, I wanted to eat all of them. I ended up getting the scallops, the scrambled eggs with pork, and essentially a meat pie. The brownie for dessert was also good, though not what I was expecting. All the food was good, the service was the most prompt and attentive of any service at any restaurant in Portugal, and the atmosphere and the vibes were just impeccable. The place had only 2 or 3 tables occupied outside (inside was completely empty) and when we said we wanted to have a drink we were told that this was only allowed after 16h00 but they would make an exception. It was 15h45 and as I said, deserted. We were told to sit in the far corner(!) The waiters were hanging around doing nothing and waited until after 4pm to take our order. The food is good (we had different bacalau options, one was served erroneously salmon), but not special. We enjoyed the wine although it was not very well presented.   Nice and stylish atmosphere near the Tagus river. The food was overall good, but definitely not a cheap restaurant. Although, I believe it is worth the extra bucks. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu didn't have a specific theme, having different combinations of traditional dishes and some fusion cuisine making traditional Portuguese dishes by mixing it combining different dishes, for example risotto with codfish cakes or with alheira.   Went there once to try the food and have nothing to complain about! It was really tasty and didn't take that long to be made. On the other hand I'm not sure if it was because the restaurant was a bit full but the staff were kinda ignoring me. Other than that, I really enjoyed going there.   While the main courses were superb (it's worth every penny, specially any of the risottos), the desserts were underwhelming and not surprising (apart the naming and fancy combinations). The space is one of kind and something you can hardly find around Lisbon: high, vaulted ceilings, near the river with amazing views. The staff is very friendly, professional and attentive. I'd recommend you to visit it if you're in the mood for fancy, chic dining.   The chicken sandwich was great. The steak sandwich was very tough and not enjoyable. The coffee was mediocre. But the 5 stars is definitely for the vibe and the service. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a glass wall on the side to block the wind so it was one of the few places where we were able to sit for two hours and enjoy every minute of it talking and enjoying food/drink. When we arrived the terrace was open and they had filled it. And they had reserved for us the table in the far corner of the restaurant. The quality if the dishes /food is not as good as it used to be some years ago. I had had a duck with a risotto and the meat was not at all tender, it was hard as a shoe sole and had no taste or soul. Also the restaurant was half full but all the guests and groups were put together on top of each other when a safer social distance would have been much appropriated as covid is still here. Staff was very friendly and quick but the main dish arrive so fast that we hardly had time to go through the couvert and starter There must be a balance between not bringing the main dish with a long delay but at the same time not rushing guests as that was What we felt - being rushed as if we were on a fast food place. A meal in a place like Darwin's needs to be served and enjoyed with calm, not rush. Particularly if one takes ages in trying to cut very hard duck. I was really disappointed with this dish. Located in the Champalimaud Foundation, is one of the little know spaces in Lisbon. The quality of the service is also great. Bartenders extremely polite and accessible. The food was also very good. The price though, reflects all this quality but not too much. One dish, water and one beer cost me about 20€.   Located in the edge of the Tagus river is Darwin’s Cafe. This is a bistro serving great food with a great ambience and vibe. The setting is beautiful, the interior design is amazing and staff are friendly and helpful. The menu has everything from steaks to fish and vegan options.   Look, this place is nice, the food was very good, but unfortunately the staff really made our lunch unpleasant. We were there at the opening so the restaurant was more than half empty. We had to ask twice for stuff everytime as for the ashtray that we had to get up and get ourselves in the end. They were going to bring appetisers after our main dish and blamed us openly for not asking it earlier (we asked twice). Also Every other table weren't foreigners and all got appetisers right after they sit down. Well that's enough for making every contact with the staff tense for the rest of the meal. The food is good and as of now (after COVID-19) the prices are lower than the ones on the website. Strongly recommend the risotto and the codfish and not so much the octopus.   Excellent food, great service. Kitchen might be abit slow but the wait staff are great. The supervisor (in non-uniform) can be condescending but the other staff wins his sassy attitude. My favorite server is Bruno who always checks which table got their orders and apologizes when it takes slower than it should be; and he notices which tables outside need drinks or wine needing top up. Otherwise you are "invited" to wait for the lunch schedule to end. We came in around 3.15pm looking for a table with our baby (there were many available inside and outside) and one employee asked us to wait on the sofa because they were not serving drinks until 4pm.   This is one of Lisbon’s trendy restaurants. The ambiance deserves five star. It is beautifully decorated. All the history and sayings of Darwin decorate the walls. On good weather days, which are almost always in Lisbon, outdoor seatings for lunch or dinner is possible with a beautiful view overlooking the Tagus river. It is located at the Champalimaud foundation which does ground breaking research on eye sight. Cannot say the same thing for the food though. They have an impressive menu but it is below expectations. Our fish came cold. The entree with goat cheese and jam sounded interesting but the way it was prepared lacked the taste the description promised. The best thing l liked was the hot water served with lemon peel at the end of the dinner: “Carioca de limao” The service is lackadaisical. There is no welcoming or seeing off although restaurants at that level show more courtesy. It is in the expensive category according to Lisbon standards. 50 Euro per person.   A good place to have lunch if you came to visit the tower. There were hardly any tourists here despite being close to the busy tower. Very nice terrace by the water and an interesting menu.   The best thing about this place is the terrace overlooking the river. Make sure to call a few days in advance to book a table otherwise it's quite hard to get one. If however you don't mind staying in, you will be eating in a beautiful restaurant. The service is quite good and the staff is very nice. The food is great; from pastas and risottos to seafood, everything is quite tasty. The açai dessert that they're serving in the summer menu though was not the most flavourful, and the liquid warmer texture was not my favourite, so I wouldn't recommend. Very snooty front of house looked us up and down and said we could only have the restaurant lunch menu, even though the terrace menu was right in front of her.   Modern cuisine in a room themed on the science of Charles Darwin. We visited on a rainy day when it felt cosy and protected to be inside, but with a broad view over the river. We spent lunch watching the ships pass and taking in views back towards the Belem tower and the bridge. There is a huge outdoor deck though and I can see how this would be the place to come sit for a sunny lunch or long summer evening dinner. Must come back for that one day.   One star for the food, which was eventually delicious, and one for the setting and decor which are beautiful. Unfortunately the service was abysmal. Our waiter did not seem to understand our order so we pointed to each dish on the menu to make sure. Despite this they first tried to deliver food for other tables and then 4 of our 8 meals were incorrect on arrival. Mistakes happen and if the situation had been handled well by the staff we would not have minded particularly. Sadly we were treated as though it was our mistake or that we had simply changed our mind. This was not the case. The Maitre d' was incredibly rude and arrogant and made a bad situation worse. One of the other waiters did have the grace to apologise for the mix up and delay. Eventually they brought out the other 4 meals, one of which was wrong again! We had given up and just ate it anyway. After some further rudeness from the Maitre d', just to completely spoil the day, we paid for the meals we ordered and left to find some more of the charming Portuguese hospitality that we have enjoyed everywhere else in this lovely country.
