This has been so far the best food we’ve had in Lisbon! The place is quite authentic and it makes up for a total experience. We ordered the lamb and the cod and they were amazing! Hyped restaurant.Need to reserve a table or stand a chance to go hungry. The restaurant has a huge fan following. Tourist haven. Must admit the food is good, basic, but made with effort and fresh ingredients, great flavors. Have to wait quite a bit in between dishes for servers and chefs to get the dishes ready. "You" are not a fine dining restaurant stop charging as per the reservation. I was charged double even though my dinner date couldn't make it due to an illness. F.Y.I i didn't cancel the reservation and still ate dishes fit for 2 adults, so the question of food waste or ingredients ordered for 2 adults doesn't come up. Very disappointed with service! We booked a table for 2 for 8pm. Service was really slow, we ordered 4 dishes. Each dish came out one by one! The last dish which was the squid in orange came out last 90mins later. We ask the waiting staff 4 times , where is our final dish ? They said it’s coming. They are clueless in what they are doing! Great restaurant located on the back streets of Lisbon. Excellent food paired with a grunge aesthetic provide a pretty unique experience in the city. Staff were abrupt to begin with, to be expected when trying to organise booked diners with quite a lot of people who haven't booked. When we were seated the staff were helpful, looked after us and were more than happy to answer any questions about the menu etc. If you haven't booked you'll be put on a waiting list which is essentially going to be the second service of the evening. Tips for that: arrive by 7.30pm, some people arrived at 7.45pm and were seated at approx 10pm. We got there at 7.30pm and were seated at approx 8.50pm. A LOT of people turn up without reservation so it's important to arrive as early as you're comfortable. We tried to book at lunchtime but they couldn't as they were fully booked. I expect that's the same every day. If you're easy going, arrive and get on the waiting list. You can enjoy a wine or beer outside whilst you wait, they even serve some of the smaller items whilst waiting, croquettes etc. If you're not easy going or just like to know when you're going to eat... Its a casual hip hop restaurant and I imagine it would be lovely to have a glass of wine outside in the summer. The workers seem to enjoy their job and are happy to recommend you dishes and help if you don't understand the menu. Its busy and they are groovy in mood which is good. Food: We ordered many dishes. Croquettes were cold but that's fine it is a starter and we ate it very quickly. Chicken rice- Heavy on vinegar. I could not eat it but people were ordering it so perhaps its not for everyone. People that got there at the same time as we did, were already eating their first dish before we even got our drinks order. We see the vision that these young chefs are going for, but they still have a long way to go, experimenting with the Portuguese typical cuisine. Unfortunately, it became evident that patrons who arrived after us were seated before us. I have been trying to come here for years and I finally was able to make a reservation (few months in advance) and made it! The restaurant is super old school/typical Portuguese with small seatings, so you may feel squished and uncomfortable if seated on a mini bar stool. The food was spectacular, a twist to traditional Portuguese dishes - it had so much flavor and everything was so fresh. Our favorite was the beef shank sando and the arroz de cabidela. Desserts were also amazing, so make sure you save some space for that. The pão de ló was a perfect balance of sweetness and I loved how they added a drizzle of olive oil and salt. The menu changes regularly so I am definitely coming back here to try other dishes! Disappointing food for the price & the hype - tasca classics with flair but ultimately not that much better than simple tasca food for roughly twice the price. We did have a nice time though, due to the relaxed but lively atmosphere (with good lighting, a rarity in Portugal). The atmosphere is great- very vibey. The menu is fairly creative. We tried 5 dishes and they were generally quite good- imho missing texture and acid (except the cuttlefish ink dish). The execution of the dishes was mediocre- the croquette arrived room temp, two dishes arrived at once and were quickly room temp. The table beside us ordered the same dishes and we noticed changes in consistency. The let down of the evening was both the pao de lo and the female server who suggested it. The dessert was clearly very undercooked - no sponge form at all. When we indicated it to one server- without much of a glance, he flat out denied there was a problem but we saw him tell our female server that we were unhappy with the dish and rather than check-in, she proceeded to avoid us and then denied there was an issue. We found this really quite disingenuous- we had paid for the meal we just wanted some honesty. We knew how the dish was supposed to be-we weren't (completely)naive tourists/gastronomers and it was very disappointing for the evening to end that way. Perhaps they had an off night. A must try in Lisbon and one of the best meals I've ever had. Very cool ambiance and kind staff and knew enough English we could get by. The menu is always changing and is only written on 1 or 2 chalkboards around the restaurant. We could only get a reservation for lunch. Would highly recommend a reservation, this plate was packed. Started with bread and olives. The bread was so fresh and the olives were incredible. We had a dish that was cubed tuna (delicious, great sauce), a chicken dish (perfectly cooked, also had a yummy sauce), sausage with cornbread/beans/cabbage (sausage was impeccable, mixture beneath was yummy and creative), pirri pirri shrimp (cooked well but the sauce was the showstopper, we dipped our bread in this sauce for the rest of the meal), and a beef shank sandwich (great, with another fantastic sauce). Although the 4 of us were pretty full with that 5 dishes and bread, we wanted to try dessert and had the crème brûlée and bread pudding. Crème brûlée was out of this world, best I've ever had, slight lemon flavor. Bread pudding was a little disappointing, sauce was good but bread part was pretty dense/ dry and not my favorite. Could be the intended style of the bread pudding and I'm sure another person could like it as much as I didn't. I didn't write down exactly how much everything cost, but prices were extremely reasonable (especially for the quality and creativity). Embora nós quatro estivéssemos bastante satisfeitos com aqueles 5 pratos e pão, queríamos experimentar a sobremesa e comemos o crème brûlée e o pudim de pão. Crème brûlée estava fora deste mundo, o melhor que já comi, leve sabor de limão. Pudim de pão foi um pouco decepcionante, o molho era bom, mas a parte do pão era bem densa / seca e não era a minha favorita. Poderia ser o estilo pretendido para o pudim de pão e tenho certeza que outra pessoa poderia gostar tanto quanto eu. Não anotei exatamente quanto custava tudo, mas os preços eram extremamente razoáveis (principalmente pela qualidade e criatividade).

Trust me, it’s the hidden gem in Lisboa. Fantastic food, unbelievable atmosphere and great music. Great tasting sea food and a very reasonable price. Had to wait in line quite a bit because we hadn’t made a reservation, recommend doing that through instagram before going there or being open to maybe 1h wait or a bit more… but 100% worth it, and you can have a drink while you wait. The rest of Lisbon clearly agrees, as there is always a queue outside and its almost impossible to get a table (book well in advance!). I finally had the chance to check out Velho Eurico, this little restaurant near Alfama, Lisbon. I made a reservation almost a month in advance, and my expectations were high. Unfortunately, Velho Eurico didn't quite live up to the hype. The food was ok, and the ambiance had a certain charm, but the music was all over the place, going from heavy metal to fado in a way that was just too loud. It was hard to relax and have a conversation without shouting to be heard at the table. But the real letdown was the service. We ordered at least three small dishes that were completely forgotten, and we had to remind the staff multiple times. In the end, we just gave up on the last dish and asked for the check. And to top it off, they didn't even bother to clear the table between courses. I noticed this happening at other tables, too, and we had to ask the staff to clean up while we waited for the forgotten food to arrive. Overall, my experience at Velho Eurico was a bit of a disappointment. The food was alright, but the service definitely left something to be desired. Absolutely incredible! We were lucky to get in at lunch time, arrived around 2:15 so aim to get there earlier. The food was possibly the best meal Ive had... ever. The staff were great, expalined its best to order 2 or 3 things to share, and then more if you are still hungry. The food was faultless and out of this world, however the service could be better. Our order was taken once, the guys serving us forgot the second half of our order after serving half of our order. After reminding him what we ordered, he then communicates to us that the squid and aranja ran out when we saw a table next to us ordered the same dish way after us and got the squid, we then proceeded to order Bachlau as a replacement and he forgot to put that in our order as well. Amazing food and lively atmosphere with fun servers. Was visiting Lisbon and didn’t have a reservation. We got there 35 minutes before opening and we were the 5th table on the waitlist, and were seated 2 hours after opening. We had a beer and appetizers outside while we were waiting. Great place for legit, fresh, well prepared Portuguese food! Very small. Reservations are definitely recommended. If not you'll wait in line, but it would be worth the wait. Food was inventive. And the venue was really fun. I felt like a local. I think half the people there were locals and half the people there were tourists, like me. A nice mix. It wasn't a total tourist trap, and it wasn't exclusive. It can be described as very authentic, not fancy and done up. I loved it. I'd go back if I return to Lisbon. It is a sharing menu but ours came very slowly one at a time over the course of 2 hours. It seems like they forgot our order several times as we had to keep getting their attention. SO glad we booked this way in advance of our visit. I was recommended O Velho Eurico by friends and saw it on multiple travel blogs and myyy did it live up to the hype! This restaurant was the first time I've re-ordered a dish. Granted, they are smaller sharing plates but they were also THAT good! I enjoyed the meat, seafood and veggie dishes equally, with the shrimps and sausage/cabbage being particular stand outs. Our creme brulee was perfect to finish our meal, along with dessert wine shots with our lovely waiter! Cannot WAIT to come back here next time I'm in Lisbon. I ordered the piri piri shrimp and it was not bad but a little over cooked. It was really expensive €12 for 4 small shrimps, the bread was €3.50 for a few small pieces, and water was €2. I just came from Basque region and the food was so much better there in quality, quantity and price. I was really disappointed and it felt like a tourist trap. The service was good though. We’ve not had any luck with food in Lisbon in the tourist areas - I recommend going outside of the tourist areas to avoid disappointment. Didn't live up to expectations. We ate at many excellent restaurants in Lisbon, but this was not one of them. Big queues outside so glad we made a reservation. One course was burnt, another was tasty but a very simple and overpriced roast chicken. Didn't stay for dessert. Not sure why this place gets all the hype. Definitely make a booking if you want to go here, we did walk-in and waited for almost an hour to get a table because we wanted to try it to see what the hype was about and it did deliver. (Recommend you just get a drink outside from them and wait) The vibe is chaotic in the best way, you want everyone else in line to try to get a table too. It does feel like a little sitcom as the staff are characters. The piri piri prawns were great, get them with the bread to dip in the sauce. The orange cuttlefish was a flavourful combination and the greens (celerico) was excellent in the sauce. In my opinion an excellent restaurant is one that either gives you mind-blowing ideas/recipes, or presents food that comes from your knowledge area but it's hard for you to tell how to make it yourself .This restaurant is good in both ways to me. Piri-piri shrimp is cooked with a strong orange, which is very novel to me. Cod salad is cooked cod marinated in acid soup with onions on top. It's a bit like ceviche apart from having a strong white pepper taste. Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and got a reservation for dinner. Unfortunately the whole experience was extremely underwhelming. The food was bare average at their price point and the service was not great either. The hostess greeting guests outside was quite rude. The wine glasses we got were not cleaned properly and neither were the bowls (pictures attached for reference). Honestly, it’s an overpriced tapas restaurant and will not recommend to anyone. Edit: In response to the owner’s comment, it’s sad that your standard of service is so low that paying clients at your restaurant have to request clean glasses. I would suggest you teach your waitstaff to check the glassware before serving them and leaving guests the opportunity to point out the unclean glasses. I was actually looking forward to posting pictures of your food, but considering the dishes were so lacklustre I left feeling disappointed. Near Castelo de Jorge, it is an altar of fantastic food that has a line of people waiting waiting waiting. So be smart. Bookings open a month prior so book it. It’s tiny and so no-frills. Nothing matches in the eatery. So eccentric is it that there are 2 rooms and you walk through the kitchen to get to the other room. How they serve up the magic dishes in that small kitch is mind boggling. Menu changes frequently which reflects on their creativity. As pescatarians, we had cod salad which really was these fresh cod hunks with endive strips. If you’re a die-hard cod fan like us, you would be delighted at the salted flavours. Then there’s the gorgeous squid over orange sauce which wouldn’t make common bedfellows usually but somehow this marriage worked. The best of the best was the piri piri shrimps which was so good, I drank off all the sauce. I don’t know what’s in there but there’s this caramel sort of buttery after taste that you don’t want an ending to. The chefs and staff are young, fantastic and really happy. As Portuguese songs belt out, you hear them all singing aloud and genuinely lapping up what they love doing. This restaurant came recommend by a chef (at Patio 44) in Porto, so we had to try it. Couldn’t get a reservation, so we went after regular lunch hours and queued. Finally got a table half an hour later. We tried their piri-piri shrimp, squid and orange, cod salad and creme brûlée. I must say, all were very good especially the squid and creme brûlée. Squid was nicely grilled with an awesome aroma paired with orange sauce. Creme brûlée was the best I had, I could literally drink the cream! Soft and smooth with a perfectly burnt crust. Experience the hype for yourself. For us, it was quite disappointing for both food and service. We went on a Thursday 15 minutes before opening and was seated at a shared table around 9:30pm (1.5 hour wait). We were served wine while we waited which was nice. We ordered the shrimps, migas, and squid. The migas was quite unique and tasty but the squid was served cold. In terms of service, the guy in the front was pretty rude and made racist remarks about Asians while we were waiting (3 Asian girls waiting out front and he joked to his colleagues that “they should leave since we don’t serve sushi here”). For some reason, he also let 2 other couples who put their names down after us (no reservation) sit before us. Basically only served us drinks and food with a very annoyed attitude and didn’t give recommendations when asked. Then he over charged us for 2 glasses of wine but we didn’t notice until we left. Unfortunately, my partner had severe food poisoning after, probably from the shrimp since I only ate one. If you’re gonna go here, you’ll probably go anyways but I wish we went somewhere else. So, we decided to try and book online later however there wasn’t any availability until the day after we left. We tried booking a table here several times until we were able to match our travel dates with an open table at O Velho Eurico, and it was so worth it! One of the best foods I've had in life. Very refined recipes and delicious flavours. I'm glad we booked months in advance as without a booking getting to eat there is a venture. The guy who welcomed us was super professional and prepared and explained everything about the dining "rules" and as was our first time there we let him choose our meals. The menu was small ( i believe they change it based on the availability of products) and with interesting combinations . We loved every single dish he choose for us. Make sure to make a reservation if you want to try this place, they are busy and they are booked. Very hard to get a seat if you just drop by, specially during high season. All items we ordered were memorable but the squid and orange was superb. The squid was perfectly cooked, paired well with the orange sauce. They are not kidding when they say this place slaps. We came at around 1pm on Sunday to a full restaurant and a wait list - we put our name down and were originally quoted an hour, but our server managed to sneak us in after 5 minutes. I came to O Velho Eurico with decently high expectations and sadly it did not meet them. The food was generally ok, some very authentic Portuguese dishes with some twists, but overall a very basic flavor profile. Some dishes could have used a bit more flavor for the wow factor to make it truly a stop worth pursuing. The beef shank sando was delicious, the cod was good, but the rest of the dishes were forgettable. The ambiance of the restaurant is also ok, inside is a bit hot and outside has a long queue and some very feisty flies. It might not be the most tradition portuguese dishes that we had but its so far my favourite restaurant in Lisbon! Since we were 5, we could order almost everything on the menu and ALL of them was just so good. Small dishes that you can share, you will see basic stuff like green salad or bacalhau… but you will be surprised as they are all twisted and just so GOOD! Very busy on the weekend so book ahead if you can, the music was quite loud for a small place but love their vibe. Highly recommended!!! Finally able to visit again in 2022 and I found out it's now run by a bunch of young entrepreneurs, slightly different vibes, but still excellent food. It's always fully booked, but definitely worth a try to get on the waitlist, you won't be disappointed. By far the best meal we had in Portugal. The meals were extremely simple yet surprisingly packed with flavor. We had lamb croquettes sitting in a bed of gravy, a melon salad with a sour sweet vinaigrette, crispy sunflower seeds, and some greens. The flavor was extremely surprising and one of the best salads I’ve ever had. The next dish was a tuna medium-baked in a thick lemon butter sauce, just perfection. Followed by crisp octopus on a bed of garlicky smashed potatoes. And lastly roasted duck baked with rice and topped with diced pancetta served with a slice of orange that added a wonderful brightness to an otherwise heavy dish. Everything was perfect. The flavors were so perfect. The most interesting thing is, they served every course without ever changing plates, and somehow every dish’s residual flavor on the plate meshed perfectly with the next. I would recommend this place enthusiastically to anyone who visits Lisbon. Every bite here was absolutely incredible. Make a reservation via DM on Instagram first! They are booked early. We got very lucky by showing up right as they were opening and shared a table with other people. We got the lamb croquette, beef shank sandwich, octopus and garlic, chicken gizzards, and garlic + coriander porridge. Our dinner at O Velho Eurico was not only the best meal we had in Portugal, but it was one of the best I have ever had. Everything we tried was fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection. The chefs here really understand flavour combinations, textures and how to balance a dish. We tried the octopus, the chicken hearts with grapes and vinegar, the squid with oranges (what a flavour combination!), the lightly cooked tuna and the lamb croquettes. Everything was fantastic, especially the lamb croquettes which tasted like a roast dinner, with the perfect amount of mint added to the lamb. It is a very, very small space, so you must make a reservation (via Instagram). When we arrived for our 8pm reservation, every other table was reserved and they had to turn away people away who didn't have a booking. It's an informal, relaxed place with friendly staff. I was really impressed by the high quality of the food, and the very reasonable prices, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lisbon. Chicken hearts with grapes in a vinegar sauce - a dish that could have come from a medieval cookbook, but no it was served to us by enthusiastic chefs in their twenties in Lisbon. Was a delicious evening, the beef sandwich was a great combination of taste, sweet bread with high quality meat. The stuff was super friendly and helped to chose red wine. Reading the older reviews (and looking at pictures) one important note: there have been major changes to the interior and most likely also the menu. O Velho Eurico, the way it is right now, has become my favorite restaurant in Lisbon. Super friendly and young stuff, always up for a short conversation, and such delicious food. The food comes in tapas size to share, for us 4-5 tapas for two people plus the awesome bread as couvert has always been enough. Great food and cheap, all was fresh, meals are quite big as you can see on the picture. Stuff is really nice, knows what they are selling and can help you if you have any queries. Resto is quite small so it gets crowdy. Looks like plenty of locals goes there for their meals. If you are somewhere close by you need to step it. Really worth to try. As our Airbnb was near this small restaurant, we stopped by one night and had a lovely evening. The food was delicious, local, inexpensive and the guys holding the restaurant were very nice to us (we even got to have a taste of their aguardente to end the meal). I came here for dinner during my stay in Lisbon. I had to queue for 30 minutes as this is a famous place for locals and tourists and the restaurant is very small. However, lining up was worth it. The food was really good and the price was decent. I had a big piece of pork filet, a couple of beers and the typical Portuguese Beirao liquor to finish the meal. I don't remember exactly what I paid for this, but definitely less than 10 euros, probably something around 8 euros. Completely worth it! It is not fair what the new owner did. It used to be a place owned by old Portuguesas couple and the food they made was homey, and delicious. Real traditional food. I went there yesterday very excited that I am going to eat my favorite shrimps (for 12 €, full plate around 15 of them), and dessert (best bolo de bolacha) and yet everything has changed, besides name. The food is different, environment is different and service is different. We order shrimps 4 of them for 9€... all the things were like finger food and they were not even that good. I was very disappointed especially because when I checked the place still online there are no new pictures of that place, so if the new owner wants to avoid such comments I would recommend changing the name. If you are looking for places to eat which are authentic or let's say from the neighborhood with great food and at a very low cost, O eurico Is one of them. The place is not that big, tables are very near from each other, loudly, waitress struggling to keep up... And why I do recommend this place?, Long story short food is great and cheap, but that's not it, my couple and I travel as much as possible, and this places are exactly the authentic cuisine we love to go. Best native food, very friendly people, speaking to each other as you are so close but not in a pushy way (you can just ignore if you are not into talking to your neighbor) really small and cousy as the important stuff for my partner and I is the hole experience and the tale of such places. This home-cooked family-run hole-in-the-wall never seems to be lacking for customers. The food here was tasty, but I'm not sure if it deserves the crowds or rave reviews it tends to get. The cuttlefish was decent, but tougher and blander than I expected and I had to ask for lemon to give it that missing flavor kick. The vegetables were good, but maybe a bit over-cooked. Maybe this wasn't their specialty or maybe the overwhelmed kitchen was having an off day, but better places are to be found in the center of Lisbon. Heard a lot of great things about this place but I was thoroughly dissatisfied once the food came. The steak which I ordered was too tough and took forever to go down. I might have been that it was later in the night but my whole party ordered dishes that didn’t taste great. If you’re visiting the area and know what traditional dishes to get, you might want to try this place out but I won’t be coming back. Staff is very friendly, got a table for lunch around 3pm without having to wait a longtime on a Monday, a lot a variety of portuguese food, I ordered the Bacalao (Cob Fish) which was good but too greasy for me in my opinion. Look like a not touristic place, the restaurant is very small and simple. The food was amazing and I didn't wait long to have my dinner.
