The concierge from The Ivens recommended this amazing spot. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is excellent. We had the carbon tacos with fresh guacamole, the sautéd shrimp and the tuna sandwich. We paired the foot with a cold draft beer and a glass of white wine. Everything was spectacular. The decor is so fun with giant legs of prosciutto hanging above the bar and beautiful hand painted tiles of pigs on one giant wall. This is a great place to try when you are in Lisbon! I was very excited to visit this restaurant as according to many is one of the best in Lisbon. The expectations were high... We had a lobster bisque which was great. For our main dishes we had cod and a shrimp dish. My friend who ordered the shrimp stew did not care for it at all and ended up not eating it. I had the cod and it was quite salty. I ate it but didn't necessarily care for it. The drinks also weren't great. The ambience was not all that great as there is no good music and the place is quite busy. The bread basket is great. Two soups —lobster and prawn & Caldo Verde are both good but salty. The appetizer Tuna tatare is excellent! Nice atmosphere but overly complicated menu system with some menus being available in different places and with not very friendly staff. Fish was nice, chicken was undercooked and borderline a bit rare actually. One member of staff was lovely, other was a bit foul. Great location centrally. We booked the pateo to the rear and sat on the upper balcony overlooking the restaurant. When you arrive it looks a little underwhelming as the front is more cafe style. The place looks good and very fancy. Though, service is a little pushy and not relaxed in my opinion. I give 3 stars to food accounting for the quality/price ratio. Taste is very good, but we got a very thin sirloin (never seen a sirloin steak so thin) with egg and a sauce for ~27.5€, and the shrimps acorda, bread soup with very few shrimps for another ~30€. I wanted to celebrate my birthday in this place and it was a perfect choice. The location is very nice, with a lot of light and feelings of space, even if the tables are very close. The service is loving and kind. I tried the Bacalhau a Bras and it was extraordinary. This is the reason for my visit, to eat something very special. An unexpected surprise for my birthday and I appreciate it a lot because it is never granted. Highly recommended, I think it is part of the Lisbon experience. this place is absolutely amazing. first, the food was incredible. we had the blue lobster and sea bass and was some of the best sea food i have ever had. our waiter recommended us our wine based on what we were eating and it was incredible. then he recommended our dessert with was to die for. overall, this had to be one of the best food experiences i’ve ever had, and the service was incredible. if you ever have the chance to be served by Marco Neves either here in Lisbon or at their new restaurant in Cascais, do it. One of the worst experiences in my life. I thought a long time before giving this low score to actually call the restaurant and ask them for a refund for my wife stay in the emergency room, for taking an earlier flight home and for loosing the remaining days of our vacation which cost me well over 1500 euro. We had a reservation there for 14th Feb (st. Valentines day) and we were given probably the worst table in the restaurant by the door, without an option to be moved elsewhere despite the fact that people without reservations were getting better tables, I ordered x 3 of their portion just to walk out hungry ( they are very very small and I am not a big guy 70kg), my wife ordered only one of the burgers, we ate and decided that this is not our place so we left to go elsewhere, on the way back to the city center. She started feeling unwell and we went straight back to the hotel, where she had such severe food poisoning that I had to basically carry her to the hospital, after 12 horrible hourse of voniting and explosive diarrhea, I canceled the rest of our vacation and bought new tickets home. Going to this restaurant was one of the biggest mistakes in my life ( I have made a lot) but this is right up there. The smoked butter with bread and olive was an amazing start that I can only recommend to everyone. The Sirloin Steak and Baked Cod were both really delicious (though definitely not cheap). The Passionfruit with coconut sorbet was amazing as well. But the best thing for us (that makes the higher price worth it) was the great service and atmosphere for sure. Close to the Bairo Chiado metro stop. Came here for portuguese tapas or Taberna. Made a reservation beforehand and everything we got was amazing! We got the cod tacos, the steak sandwich and the prawns. We were very hungry after a long travel day and it really hit the spot with chocolate cake to end the meal. There is a E2.85 each cover charge, but it's a nice setting, I didn't see it listed on the menu, but it might be there. When the bill came there was a "suggested gratuity " added to the bill, which the waiter said he could remove. This is B.S. I've tipped in Portugal and this is not how it's done. It use to be a nice place with a great menu 2 years ago. It’s now a trap for rich tourists. Menu is average and stupidly expensive. I personally paid 37e for a fish and 3 aspergus. Having had a great night at Mini-Bar, I was super excited to come here. The host was great, friendly, and engaging. I think maybe my waiter didn't speak english. Every time I would ask a question about a dish, he would start writing it down as an order. He'd deliver the food and then go over in the corner and play on his phone. The Mojito was excellent. The food unfortunately was pretty awful. Everything was so salty it was almost inedible. The tartar was painfully salty. The shrimp were hard and over cooked (and really salty). I ordered the tenderloin Medium rare and it came out well done and cold. I looked around and all the tenderloins looked the same well done. The fries were old, cold, very salty, and I couldn't taste the sauces which seemed basically like ketchup and mayo and something on top I couldn't taste. The cake was dry. Midway through the dinner the wonderful dreadlocked waitress started helping my table while the former waiter hung out in the corner on his phone. Food quality was solid (not outstanding) however it seems there are bus tours moving in and out of the restaurant. We were disappointed with our experience. Our first night in Lisbon and we had just arrived. Looking up reviews, we were excited to try this chef restaurant which was just at the back of our hotel. We sat outside. Waited for a while for service. Food arrived not too long but taste was so-so for Acorda de Camarao which was more than 28 euro and but did not come with any sides so we ended up ordering bread and rice which added 4 euro. The place is separated in four parts: the patio, tavern, pizzeria and mini bar. The patio had a charming and beautiful decor, but unfortunately, the experience was dampened by excessive noise, making it feel more like a cafeteria than an cosy and relaxing dinning spot. The food was very delicious, but some dishes seemed overpriced for what they offered. For example, a simple bread basket was 8,50€, which is expensive compared to other restaurants. There was not much variety in the menu and they served quite special dishes. For me it was difficult to understand the menu as well. Which ones are the starters and which ones are the main courses? In the end I took the chargrilled squid with black rice, which was very delicious. Additionally the water bottles were presented on some cart and were not served cold from the fridge. The service depended on the staff serving us. While 1 or 2 of them were friendly and attentive, others seemed unfriendly, impolite and in a sour mood. The rushed service gave the impression that they wanted to get customers out quickly. Then when receiving the bill, I was surprised to see an added suggested tip of 8€ or more from their side, with still the option to accept or decline it. Really gorgeous restaurant tucked behind a more day to day eatery out front. The inside terrace gave an outdoor feel and the decor is eclectic and adds to the exotic feel. Sitting upstairs on the balcony was amazing, to be able to look down around the restaurant and observe the atmosphere. Dined alone and was really taken care of by the servers, gave great recommendations for both food and drinks, and they even made sure I still had a good table with a view- something I find is often not prioritised for solo diners. I had the Octopus Tartare and then the traditional cod dish with "exploding olives"- absolutely magical. Cocktails were great and the wine menu looked good too, I can't wait to come back here and try the other food and drinks out. We visited the Taberna. First of all, don’t order the explosive olives. It is awful. Like eat a full spoon of oil. The rest of the food was ok, not outstanding. The cod with alheira barely had alheira or cod. It was a blend mix of greens and breadcrumbs. The cheese board was small and everything tasted the same. The cod little balls were good. Stopped here on our first day in Lisbon for a light lunch. The streetside patio seating was perfect for people watching and enjoying a warm Lisbon afternoon. The service was friendly. A nice place for family and group dinner, the decibel in the restaurant is way too high for my taste, but certainly lively and convivial. The food is very good apart from the chef‘s special rice w pink shrimp, crab and clams. I love the carabineros, the big pink shrimp. Catastrophic service, make you feel really not welcome. They shouldn't seat people if they don't want you there. We specifically asked if the kitchen was still open (because we arrived at 11.20pm and the restaurant closes at 12am) and they said yes. However they made it really clear that they want to close up and that we're not welcome (looking/pointing at us, while checking their watch in a demonstrative way etc.) Maybe don't seat guests if you won't serve them properly? The hostess seems very insecure about her decisions. Service was reaaally slow (even though they wanted to finish... the irony), we had to ask for water 3x, it still took 15mins. The hostess came up to us, saying that we should order, since the kitchen closes soon. But no service had come by the table the past 15minutes.. she also wouldn't take our order then and asked another waiter to take it (she's the hostess, fair enough and not a waitress, however if you stress us to order, you could go as far as taking it instead...apparently not) Restaurant manager seems to support that type of service. No sense of hospitality whatsoever!!! Food was mediocre at best, especially for the price. You will find a thousand better restaurants in Lisbon. My partner ordered the braised tuna which came out as a sad piece of gray fish with bad texture lacking in flavor and seasoning with 4 sticks of fried “millet” French fries on an otherwise barren plate. Disappointing. Booked this for my birthday (and told them in the booking it was for a bday). They seated the two of us in the section on the end where the tables are not as nice. Felt like we were in the tourist zone with a French couple and American couple on either side of us. Took ages for the server to even come to our table to give us the drink menu. Then ages to actually take the drink order and even bring the food menu. I noticed on the menu the bread is charged at €4 per person and thought - let's not fill ourselves with bread to enjoy the actual food. The server set the bread and condiments down without saying anything. I asked him - is this free or is this charged?? And he said, oh this is charged. I told him, we don't want bread. From that point on, the dinner was not enjoyable. They should ask us if we want bread, not just set it down and charge an extra €8+. If you're going to take advantage of the tourists, at least seat us in a good area of the restaurant. The only thing that was good was the Bacalao a la bras (their famous dish). It was very very good. The French couple next to us was asking why there was an automatic gratuity charged of 5% and the server explained it was suggested but not required. At least when we paid, he didn't auto add this. And I think he noticed we were not pleased at all by the experience. It definitely has a trendy vibe and nice interiors. We were an adult and a 9 year old waiting with a crowd of eager people to enter for a dinner at 19:00 on a Monday. While clearly popular we could reserve a place on the same day. Even though the restaurant got full very quickly, it didn't feel noisy because of the very high glass ceilings in the patio. The service was super attentive and friendly. Our fantastic waiter went out of his way to make sure we liked the food and to replace the dish that my son didn't get to like (there was nothing wrong with it). Decided to go here for my mother’s birthday on New Year’s Day after already eating at Belcanto and Mini bar. Ordered the lobster bisque, and ceviche for appetizers. Had the lobster and shrimp, grilled octopus and steak for the main course. The food actually tasted good but unfortunately two of my family members got food poisoning. They had to miss their train to Porto because of the sickness, it’s terrible. They had to waste their train tickets, hotel, and flight back to Lisbon. I also read that someone got food poisoning from Minibar but we didn’t when we went. We think it’s one of the seafood dishes and potentially the octopus because it was too soft. The texture was almost on the mushier side. Not sure if it was a bad one but definitely not the same texture of octopus that we’ve been eating all month since being here. Staff wise they were alright but not worth the extra 5% of gratuity. We asked twice with two different severs if we can have a candle or some sort for my mothers dessert and out came a plain chocolate cake. The cake was good but we were told some sort of candle or something could be done so that’s what we were expecting. I liked minibar better anyway because of the dishes but if you eat here, eat at your own risk is all I would say. We went for my mothers birthday and had asked a few times if they do anything, which they said yes a candle can be provided. Dessert came and no candle so we improvised with the table candle. It is a nice place in the center of Lisbon. It has a few sections: tapas, meat and seafood. When it comes to that choice, we go for seafood. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but this experience was bad. First, the restaurant is quite large and accommodates an essential amount of guests that makes it noisy, crowded and stuffy. Not my type of a restaurant. Secondly, the staff was not attentive and friendly. The waiter was quite indifferent and at one moment, trying to explain me what the dish contained, he started pointing and almost touching the food with his finger. It was disgusting. Lastly, the food was between average and bad: the octopus tartar (which was recommended by the waiter as an especially good dish) was very average, not impressing at all. The partridge pies were just tasteless. They were served with quite strong mustard and it was the only flavour which this dish had. Brrr, just bad. It’s sad as there are so many great restaurants in Lisbon and usually the level of cuisine is high there. This was just great, from the entry to the exit. The waiters where attentive, polite and patient - happy to explain the menu and suggest a course of action towards nirvana. We had a perfect meal in the taberna. The croquettes and portuguesinha were amazing. We actually ordered a second portuguesinha because it was that good. I believe there are 3 or 4 different branded Avillez restaurants within this place. I was suprised how big jt was compared to other places we went. Food was great served beautifully. However the issue is every where we went had good butter for instance and charged for it but here they charged more. Service was very attentive and fast. The team is on point. They don’t miss a beat. We were a table of 9 and didn’t have a single issue from my recollection. Parking might be an issue as I haven’t seen anywhere nearby. Reservation are a must even though it’s a big restaurant. Pateo is an amazing resturant that you would want to come back again and again. All of the dishes were amazing. If you love mushrooms the mushroom risotto is amazing. Also octopus is a must. For clarity - this is a 3.5-4 star rating… depending on the dish and being hurried or not. A fun venue where you walk through the Taberna dining to reach the beautiful interieur of the patio. We were able to get a table without a reservation but were slightly hurried to order quickly. The staff were very friendly and even though we didn’t order any cocktails the bartender was making some amazing creations. Definitely will try if I come back. We had two small starters of the burrata and the tuna tartare. It was probably some of the best burrata I’ve ever had! Spectacular place, the venue is beautiful but the service we received was a huge let down for our last night in Lisbon. One of us ordered a drink that never came and then out of 5, 2 of our meals didn’t show up and we had to order again, which took another 20 minutes by that time everyone else had long finished. Gosh I so wanted this place to be good. Our last major/fancy lunch in Lisbon, the one after 30 days of vacation, etc. I was encouraged by all the reviews. Sadly it was a big let down for us. I ordered the spicy chicken bbq - it was very dry and bbq rub/sauce was a joke - no taste at all. The burrata salad (€16.50) was our favourite (though we found it difficult to detect the truffle), followed by the passion fruit dessert (€10; though the coconut sorbet component was a bit weak). Food was very good, however few dishes arrived relatively cold at the table. The Octopus with garlic was the best dish we had, 5 stars! Mixed ham and cheese plate was also great. Lively vibe, but for some it could maybe feel a bit uneasy. Liked the open kitchen and set up. Waiters were very busy, hence couldn't deliver a very good service, improved during the evening though. I think this place is a bit overrated due to the famous name, it was nice for sure, but nothing special. Best octopus I’ve had in a long time (if not the best I’ve ever had). Really enjoyed walking through the different locations within this big spacious restaurant. Each location has it’s own cuisine style (sea food, tapas, etc.) and unique decor. Staff was was great and super attentive. What an amazing place! They have three different restaurants within the same space - A tapas place as you walk in, a sea food restaurant in the middle and on the upper floor a pizzeria. We went for the pizzas which were delicious. Very very thin crust with crunchy borders (I can say that one person can easily eat an entire pizza if they hungry, as they are not super thick). We had the figueira pizza with figs since they are in season right now. The service was also great. The host was really nice and helped us right away. After our dinner we had an even nicer surprise, as we were walking down we saw a speakeasy bar that looked really fun. We spoke with the host again, which kindly allowed us to enjoy a drink at the bar. The speakeasy is called Mini Bar and it was simply amazing. We had the pisco sour, perfectly done, and a Mezcal drink that was not on the menu but mixed at the highest standards. Mini Bar also offers food (more experimental by the looks of it), which we didn’t try, but would definitely come back for it. The space was beautifully decorated with a remarkable wall-painting that will impress anyone. Cannot miss this place when in Lisbon! One of the best restaurants I’ve tried so far…all food was delicious, from a regular octopus (that had more flavor than any other sea meat I’ve tried) to sauce of the clams with lime…the setting its really cool for drinks at night. This place is really good. We sat on the Pateo side and had a great seafood meal. My wife had a soup with lobster in it and I had the swordfish. The best bistro in Lisbon. This guy is a genius. Mr Avillez has 2 Michelin stars but he creates a few cheaper bistro type restaurants for diners to enjoy his creation. His house rose wine is incredibly juicy succulent and deliciously divine. At €18 it is also a bargain! We heard this was the restaurant to go to in Lisbon. I checked online and they were booked a week in advance. We decided to just drop by and there was only a half hour wait and the bar was open. We ended up coming here twice. My favorite part was that the food came really quick. I had a pineapple cocktail which reminded me of Hawaiian and the mojito. I preferred my wife's cocktail which was basil based. Our favorite dish was both the lettuce wraps especially the cod. The crockettes we're also delicious. We got the giant shrimp which was good but didn't have much meat. We made the mistake of getting the steak picada medium and it was way too chewy. The traditional soup wasnt our favorite. Really great location. We enjojed the tappas bar. Amazing food with extraordinary taste just great. Update: A year later and the food is great as always. We had a grilled lettuce heart as first course and then a thuna steak wit pines. What can I say: it was more than great. The Thuna was enlightening. This is a must try stand-out restaurant. The chef owns a number of restaurants around Portugal and unbeknownst to us we ended up going to two of his restaurants over two consecutive nights. Both very different cuisines and experiences and both amazing. The squid on squid ink and chorizo risotto was one of the best meals I’ve had in Europe.... a big call but it was incredible. Staff very attentive and friendly. The ambience is great too; if you can, book a table in the “patio” section and rock up early for a cocktail at the bar (had a very good martini with an ‘exploding olive’ in there as a play on the old classic). Two-storey restaurant with three restaurants. We wanted to sit downstairs but it was full so we were recommended the Peruvian restaurant upstairs. If you want to eat something special, high cuisine, and let yourself get surprised, this is your place. They have mostly small tapas sizes but very tasty. A bit pricy but actually two-three are enough for a dinner so would be the same price in a normal place. Perfect for romantic nights! Place was recommended by our hostel, not at all disappointed! Good as always. The food is really flavourful and a personal twist on Portuguese food. If you are a meat eater the prego no bolo do caco is a must. The cocktails are also nice. Our waiter was quite kind and based on our choices even made her own recommendation of the order in which to bring them out. We did feel the staff was a bit overwhelmed and was hard to get their attention as they rarely looked at any tables - and the tables around us had to remind them of things that were missing. The food is good and this spot is busy but the host made us wait 40 minutes after they gave us a time to return for a table with no drinks or snacks. Plus it is expensive for what you get, the tiny pork sandwich is €10. Our favourite restaurant in Lisbon! There is two parts to the restaurant: a tapas style bar in the front and a fancier restaurant in the back. We only ate at the tapas bar so can't speak for the quality of the food in the fancier back restaurant. We went there 3 times and the meal was usually €40-€50 for two people including a 1L sangria which I think is not too bad! Interior was very nice and great service! You can probably get a seat easily before 7:30pm, then it starts filling up! I recommend one main and 3-4 other dishes. We've tried the beef and pork main dishes and they were both very good! The lettuce heart salad was a tad on the sour side but it is a very good compliment to the richer main dishes and the pork trotter! The sangrias was very good as well. A salada de coração de alface estava um pouco azeda, mas é um ótimo complemento para os pratos principais mais ricos e o trotador de porco! As sangrias também estavam muito boas.
