Great restaurant. The food is elevated yet not as expensive as many other "fine dining" restaurants you'll find in the city. The atmosphere and staff are great as well. It is equally suited for a quiet, romantic dinner as it is to a dinner with a group of friends. We've been at least twice and will come back again next year. I go to restaurants to eat well and will pay a good price when the food is good. I did not get a good meal here: two fish mains were tasteless, one shared ceviche starter was more fruit than fish, the chocolate dessert was fabulous and the place, quite atmospheric, seemed a little pretentious. Lovely restaurant with space divided by different rooms. I dined in the main room. I had the roasted eggplant as an appetizer and the prawn risotto as main course. The risotto was outstanding, I highly recommend it. As a glass of wine, they served me an excellent local Chardonnay. The total cost was 39 euros. They gifted me a shopping bag (thank you!). So many amazing things to say about this restaurant! We loved trying new and different food combinations! Our group came in with an open mind and left with full bellies, and an experience that we will always remember. We decided to try the tasting menu — which was such a good choice! It allowed us to try a variety of items on the menu and try wine from various regions of Portugal. The manager was AMAZING. The hosts and wait staff were excellent. We even got to meet the chef at the end, which was major highlight of the evening. At the end, the staff didn’t kick us out and allowed us to leisurely finish our meal and drinks! The restaurant is unique, authentic and a must try in Lisbon. Highly recommend the salmon (it was the best one of the people in party ever tasted!) and the tasting menu. We loved everything about this place. We were welcomed so warmly and followed with a glass of sparkling wine - a fantastic way to start, I'd say! They offered such interesting combinations of flavors, that it was difficult to choose our dishes, but we were up to the task! 😄 The food and the service were top notch. My friend had the octopus and sweet potato mash and described it as "exceptional". Each of the 3 of us enjoyed appetizers, a main course and a dessert and I don't think one crumb was left behind. Overall a very underwhelming experience. When we arrived we didn’t felt very welcome and the guy at the entrance gave us the impression that he wouldn’t believe us that we have a booking. The ambiance was interesting but unfortunately we ha have been put in the last room which was heartless (no music) and the staff often forgot us. They weren’t really attentive, we had to call them for a second glass of wine. My risotto was a bit watery and lacked some salt. I had to wait quite a bit to get some salt. The ceviche was very fun and super tasty! Overall the whole atmosphere felt stiff and even after we paid we didn’t get the feeling that we were welcome there (l think it was the chef or owner who charged us, didn’t ask if we liked it). Interesting place. We arrived to a locked door despite the restaurant being open, phoned the number to be told to ring a nondescript buzzer which wasn’t labelled. Off to a strange start… We venture inside and the building is very picturesque, both the inside and outside dining areas are very well presented. The ambience was unique but the food sadly let down the experience. We tried the aubergine with caramel miso starter but it was overtly sweet, to the point where it was difficult to eat. We also had the salmon for main, which was a tiny bit over cooked, and the cod was also quite disappointing - lacking in flavour, the sauce not adding much. Tasted fresh but not flavourful or worth the price, the food wasn’t even seasoned. The best restaurant in Portugal! My husband and I spent a week in this lovely country trying all the delicious food. The Clubs de Jornalistas has no comparison. Overall had a great experience in this place. Ambiance is just wonderful, it takes you back in time somehow. Service was great, the staff and the owner lady with glasses she’s wonderful. I do have some suggestions on food tho, hope they will read it here. I ordered “ Marinated Veal Loin Kebab” It came with potatoes and I believe bokchoy. Meat is pretty over seasoned. I felt like I was eating an Indian food, because of the taste it left in my mouth. It’s maybe the marinade they use, but that was too much mixed spices there. As someone who has been cooking a lot, and mostly making vegetable and meat dishes, I was not satisfied with the taste of that meat. For the perfect marination and if you guys want that kebab to be soft even when it’s well done, try marinating it in soy sauce and black pepper, no salt. Sometimes if you want that kick of spice, add crushed cumins. Trust me, it’s gonna make this dish taste much better. Potatoes were not cooked well, and if you want to include potatoes as side dish it’s always better to cook it till it’s golden brown and little crispy. Plus, add salt, pepper and before serving sprinkle some dried or just fresh dill on top. Bokchoy just ruined the taste of my dish and left a very bad taste in my mouth. Instead of bokchoy you could just put some asparagus ( very classic ) or just a plain green salat on the side. Overall good experience, food could have been better. We had such a lovely dinner and experience at Club de Jornalistas! We visited early May, so we sat inside as the courtyard was not open yet. We had such a fun and friendly server which made for a really great experience. We had bread, wine, octopus, risotto, pork neck, and dessert- everything was very good to excellent. Had the tasting menu last night, which included nothing but very below average dishes. Was by far the most expensive and least delicious food we've had over two weeks in Portugal. I'm confused by all these good reviews. Our experience was totally disappointing. This restaurant continues to impress with their inventive food. The chef is clearly very talented. I came back after three years post Covid and the food is even better than last time which I already thought was a high bar. It takes you on a journey combining the very best local produce with flavours of Portugal, Brazil and Asia while always being true to itself. Although the ceviche was Latin American the fish probably came out of the Atlantic that afternoon - delicious without the over acidity that other more famous ceviche restaurants bombard our mouth with. The charred Octopus was bitter sweet and salty as all grilled Octopus should be. A unctuous pork cheek that had been slow cooked was heaven on a cold windy evening. The desserts were to die for specially the chocolate soup. We got the last bottle of a wine called No. 8 - delicious. There is a great story they told us about why each edition of wines produced for them are numbered. The service was amazing as before - Rodrigo and Luisa. Thank you for the kind present on our way out - perfect for taking all my extra shopping back home and my trips to the supermarket afterwards. Where to start…. We were greeted at the door and asked to pick our own table. The atmosphere was quite dull everywhere. We picked a table and were offered a small glass of champagne which was nice. Things went downhill from there. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairings. The first course was bread and with olive oil and some sort of purée. Nothing was explained. We were also offered a white wine, which was not described. We were simply told this is white wine. First course was a ceviche… not great flavor topped with stale popcorn. The next course was served with an additional glass of the same “white wine.” This was an eggplant that had inedible skin. Decent flavor. The third course was a risotto, again delivered with zero description. Also served with the same “white wine.” We eventually asked if we could switch to red wine and were told it would come with the fourth course. The fourth course was delivered with an elaborate description “here you go.” And with “red wine.” Flavors were just OK. Desert came with the same red wine and was delivered without any description. It seemed to be some sort of brownie with ice cream and a mouse with pop rocks. All and all it was a disappointing experience with zero enthusiasm from the staff or chef. Overall a very good experience. If 1/2 stars were available I would give a 4.5, so I am rounding up to a 5 instead of down. We went for dinner with a total of 4 people. First, they are very welcoming and friendly upon arrival. The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant is very cool. Instead of it being a large dining room, it is multiple rooms like an old house, so it gives a sense of intimacy. The interior is gorgeous. Since it is colder now, we were unable to enjoy the large terrace (that is for another time!). Service was excellent and they offer menus in English and Portuguese, based on your preference. For starters, we had the asparagus with mushrooms and a poached egg + the ceviche and both were excellent. For dinner, our group had the octopus (2 people), the prawn and mango risotto and the black pork/shrimp/white beans. All meals were wonderful as well. For dessert 2 of us had the chocolate "soup" which was superb with great texture. If I had a negative, it would be that maybe the prices were just a bit high, but the quality of the meal and the great ambiance justified it, in our opinion. If having wine with dinner (we had 2 bottles + another 2 glasses) and with some starters and dessert, expect to pay around €45-50/person. We will certainly return. Good quality meal in a nice setting. We went for dinner on a Saturday night and were seated in the garden area. It was getting chilly and we were kindly offered blankets which kept us warm for the rest of the night. The menu has a good variety so would suit most people. We had the ceviche and the caramelised eggplant for starter and the octopus with sweet potato purée for mains. All dishes were good. The octopus was soft and appropriately seasoned (not too salty). For me the highlight of the dinner were the desserts. I recommend trying their ice creams which I think are made on the site. I tried a mix of three varieties - and particularly enjoyed the eucalyptus one and the cheese one (yes, it tasted like cheese but sweet, yummy). Be warned that the scoop size is quite big. The bread and butter were also nice and we were told it is made on the site. The staff were friendly and helpful in answering questions. At some point we had to change tables because a rowdy 10+ people table next to us didnt want to take their seats and instead were hanging around. At the point when I almost had someone’s bag in my plate i lost my nerve and asked to be moved. The staff kindly moved us. All in all a lovely dinner. Will be back when next in Lisbon. Clube de Journalistas was the perfect way for us to end our trip in Portugal because both the food & the vibe were unique and memorable. We chose the restaurant partially because of its close proximity to our hotel, The Emerald House. The restaurant layout is very unique with a bunch of adjoining rooms and tables pretty spread out — it gives the impression you’re dining in someone’s home. The menus are delivered in envelopes which adds to the “underground” flare. The menu items were a bit more gourmet than we’re used to but everything we ordered was delicious and relatively affordable! We had the roasted eggplant appetizer, the prawn risotto, the veal kabobs, and chocolate cake— we’d recommend them all. Our server was super sweet too! It's a great setting and I hear the meat is delicious (owners are Brazilian after all). However, despite claims to be vegetarian friendly, they still have a very long way to go. In this day and age it's no longer good enough to not have a single vegetarian main course on the menu. When asked what they can do the answer is an extremely frustrating 'we can do x meat dish without the meat' or 'we can do the fish, but without the fish'. I ended up with some dry wild rice with no sauce, no protein and no discount on the price without the meat! No bueno people! This is a good choice if you are looking for a nice terrace. We went for a bottle of nat’cool, which was a balanced and complex red. The celery soup was a great starter. The eggplant with pistachios was even better, and the honey was a nice surprise that worked very well. The chorizo risotto needed more cheese, if it had any. The chocolate hazelnut cake was good, but it didn’t have any hazelnut flavor. The service was good, but a little slow since there was only one waiter for the whole place. If you are seeking s good ambiance and semi- international and also Portuguese but reliable and consistent food in the hills of lovely neighborhood of Lapa, Clube de Jornalistas is a good choice. Sometimes misleading because of its name that it is only open to journalists, it welcomes everybody but reservation is necessary. I have tried almost everything on their menu and all dishes are served with good touch and taste. I especially like “kofte” which is served with lentils and with right touch of herbs and spices. Also in the summer, its garden offers a good setting for a quiet dinner but l always prefer to sit in the rooms decorated with colorful tiles. I don’t personally like the back dark grey painted room , a later addition , to this antique setting so l always make sure to ask for a table in one of the tiled rooms. It is also ideal for birthdays or anniversaries as there are rooms that can accommodate only some 25 people groups. The service is friendly and they welcome you with glass of prosecco and see you off with a little present which is either a cloth bag with a design of Portugal’s local emblem sardines or the one that carries restaurant’s logo or other surprise little presents. Suggest a walk down the street towards Santos to admire the residential buildings adorned with gorgeous antique tiles after your meal. Walk up could be a bit tough as it is a steep hill. Such an amazing place! The only thing better than the food are the people who work here. However, they don't seem to be 'working' as they truly enjoy what they do. This restaurant is very intriguing and a must visit. Dishes are extremely tasting and very well presented. Upon entering you are presented with a glass of cava each to mingle in the waiting area. Then taken to your table where you are given the menu in a typewriter given letter style in an envelope (very chic!). The menu is varied and very appealing. We had the Lamb Burger Kofta style (no Bread), black pig risotto, confit cod and prawn risotto. All dishes were extremely tasty and high end. Staff are very professional and friendly. We met the owner Luisa and she is very much a good character and chatty. We had a beautiful meal here on a Friday night in Lisbon. The service was impeccable from start to finish - couldn’t fault it whatsoever! Our waiter was the most attentive we had in Lisbon and enjoyed chatting with us and giving his personal suggestions. It feels quite exclusive and tables are well spaced out so it doesn’t feel too busy at all. Our starters and mains were absolutely delicious and the wine we were recommended paired perfectly with our dishes. It was a wonderful treat to dine at the Club. The dishes had Brazilian influence as the chef is from there. The layout of restaurant is interesting where you are walking around to get to the dining table. It has a beautiful garden space which will be lovely when the weather is warm enough to enjoy it. Beautiful space, friendly staff, and thoughtful owners from start to finish. It's setup for success. The only issue was the food itself. It underwhelmed. The eggplant was the highlight of the night - though it's a tad sweet for anything early during the repast. The Ceviche de Carapau in theory was looking devine, but the dish came out under seasoned and just lacked any inspiration. The Shrimp Risotto was in a similar category as the eggplant and lived up to the quality that other posts discuss. Lastly the calamari fell to the same fate as the poor ceviche. Perhaps this was an anomaly. I just left wanting more flavor, pizazz, and inspiration in the rote dishes. Tivemos muita sorte, porque o restaurante acabou por ser um tesouro. Temos um quarto no pátio muito grande e não lotado no jardim dos fundos, e a comida, o vinho e o serviço eram ótimos, e os preços eram muito razoáveis, considerando a qualidade. This is a very nice restaurant. Definitely one of my favorites. It is a calm space with a nice decor. The food is great. It is not for everybody, it is a place with a very specific atmosphere. What a gem!! We read the recent reviews and were hopeful but, believe me , this is a special place. It won't break the bank, the staff and ambience are excellent and the food superb. We were given a glass of bubbly as we arrived, served with one of their new starters just to try, and the dishes we ordered were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. To top it all, we were given a gift each as we left - won't tell you what because it will spoil the surprise! A very relaxed, friendly, but high quality restaurant which shouldn't be missed! One of the best restaurants we've visited, worldwide. Quality, price, and professionalism of service people are amazing. We were able to get a table for 2 just by walking up but it was their last one. Call ahead and you might be able to get a seat in their garden. We had the steak (an excellent, dry aged sirloin) and the lamb hamburger. Both were fantastic, as was the sweet things dessert. Very cozy, laid back, and somewhat romantic spot. 6/5 stars! We discovered the Clube by coincidence: we stood outside and checked the menu; immediately the door was opened and we were invited inside for a tour of the rooms and a drink on the house! Of course we had to come back - elegant yet relaxed with an extremely good kitchen and the best service I have ever had (they even improvised vegetarian dishes for us, which are hard to come by in Lisbon!) The prices were more than adequate and fair. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and hope to come back soon!
