  The place is cool and the menu offers a various range of plates. The dishes were good. Except this, the service was awful. We waited a long time to have the food and even the wine/water. They bringed us plates we never ordered and the other were just simply cold. We had to ask them to warm them up. We had an awesome meal, and while we waited a bit for the table (restaurant was packed), we were provided with a snack of fresh out of the kitchen falafel.   We made a last minute decision to dine at Tantura and we were certainly not disappointed. Our table had the tasting menu and it we all agreed it was one of the best meals we've ever had. I am vegetarian and the rest of my family eats meat. The staff were more than accommodating and it was a fantastic experience overall. The falafel and shakshouka were devine.   I was very excited to try this restaurant. We went with my coworkers and food was tasty but service was less than ideal. One of my coworkers wanted to have the tasting menu and he ordered it. 10 minutes later the waiter comes back and says he cannot have it as everyone in the table needs to have the experience. Makes sense but shouldn’t needed to wait 10 minutes to get that information. Everyone started getting their food and my plate ( a classic shakshuka) took forever to arrive. No explanation no apology, nothing. They brought it when everyone was almost finished. Kinda ruined the experience and leaves a bad flavor.   The service was some of the worst I've experienced across restaurants in the US and Europe. We were seated at the bar, even though we had reservations for a table, where we waited until the end of our meal to receive the cocktails we ordered as we were seated. The bartenders seemed very flustered by the amount of drink orders they were handling and at one point dropped a drink shaker in a bowl of Israli Salad we were still eating. They didn't really apologize when they did that but asked instead if we were still eating the salad... Our main waiter left us alone for 45 minutes after we were finished eating and acted if nothing was wrong when we finally were able to flag her down for the check. The food itself was not great, the meat platter was extremely salty and there was a small rock or piece of sand in the Israeli salad that hurt my tooth. The hummus was very good but creamy to the point that I question how much heavy cream was used in it. The menu was confusing and the prices were some of the most expensive in Portugal I've seen. There is always one memorably bad meal when you travel to a new country and unfortunately this was the one. Save your money.   The food was great. No complains. Didnt like the Sangria white. Seemed like we were drinking flavoured water with a lot of ice. Also the atmosphere isn’t great especially if you are only 2 people. Its so chaotic, and so close to other tables like when they turn, it feels like they are sitting with me. And when anyone passes, I was afraid that our plates would fall. Not the best experience.   Awesome place with friendly staff in a cool area of Lisbon. I had the ‘taster menu’ which was WAY too much for just one person. Could have had it with two people and still be pretty full. If you’re in for something different and -in my opinion- more refined than the Portuguese kitchen, I would recommend paying Tantura a visit. The falafel and hummus with meatballs was excellent, and the pitta breads are the best I've ever had. They made it very nice to be there with our baby too.   Overpriced place. First of all we asked tap water, and they told us they "run out" of tap water. They offered replacement with boiled water for 3 euros. It's direct violation of local law which says eateries must provide free tap water if requested by customer, and cannot charge fee even lower than regular water price. Food itself was not very tasty and small portions, and in my personal opinion they lacked salt. If you go two people, be ready to spend between 40-50euros. Highly recommended and very tasty were the following dishes: - the labane - Thini - Schug - the cauliflower - the cheese dish - the madjadra (rice dish) - the Malabi and Halacha was super great Some of the food was okay but needed some fine tuning: - Hummus was somewhat too salty and with too much sweet tasty - falafel balls were okay but not super tasty - Israeli salade was okay but not what you get in Israel. - the given shakshuka was green and egg that was completely not cooked.   Ate here last weekend. We didn't have a reservation but after about an hour they managed to get us a table. The wait was worth it as the food was so good! We had the falafel, meat hummus and the sharing board with extra pittas.. All looked and tasted really good. Looking at the tables around us, all of the food looked great! I was only disappointed we could not order a kebab, they are only available after 22.30 I think. But I will definitely go back to try them based off of what I have eaten there already! The service was brilliant, very attentive and they were able to squeeze us a table when we had previously accepted a seat at the bar.   I went to this restaurant, expectations was so high after my friends told me that the food was amazing. But when I got there, the hostess was so rude at beginning of everything, and I thought that everything it’ll be nice, just got worse, cuz the vibe of the restaurant it was awful, the music was really loud, the guys who looked like they were the owners got there a little late and were so rude with the waiters, although they were being nice with the customers. And to end the evening, I tried to tip the service and they told me that they wouldn’t receive the tips anyways, so it wouldn’t matter if I give or not.   The food is good, but unfortunately the service and ambiance don’t match it. I made a reservation for five people. They put us in a tiny table with barely any space for the glasses. I tried to get another spot, but the waiter was rude saying “it was not their business but rather the concierge’s responsibility”. I don’t feel like coming back there as Lisbon has other spots with Mediterranean food with way better service and price.   I honestly think it was too expensive for Portugal prices, especially for the amount of food served. Small portions. Also, there was almost no space to pass by between the tables, and as they were too close, I had to almost shout to my partner to have a conversation. The food was okay, but I have been in many other Mediterranean and Middle East Cuisine Restaurants, and this was not even in my top 5 in Portugal. One time only experience unfortunately.   They brought us several dishes we didn‘t order. And when we made them aware of it they said it would come with the bread. When the bill came all the dishes that we didn‘t order like tabule, falafel and so on were on the bill and the owner insisted that it would be „stupid of us if we eat something that we supposedly didn‘t order“.   We went to Tantura one night for dinner and it was one of my favorite middle eastern meals I’ve ever had. We tried a wide array of dishes like the mushroom hummus, shakshouka, the bulgarian pastry, israeli salad and more. I felt they put their own elevated twist on these classics. Service was kind and helpful. I wish I could transport this place to home in the US so it wouldn’t be just when I come to visit Lisbon!   This place is cute and cozy... The food was not made to order, our salad was soggy, the shakshuka was kinda cold and came out in 2 mins after ordering. Was given a small amount for a glass order of wine and the mojito had an over powering aroma which did not make for a great taste. Had to ask 4 times before we got a bottle of water.   The BEST restaurant we went to in Lisbon I would recommend to anyone visiting the city not to leave without trying Tantura. Our favourite dish was the hummus with meatballs and the hummus stew. The chicken schnitzel was amazing (crispy chicken coated in sesame and tomato). The fresh bread is great too. Slightly disappointed in the shakshouka since the eggs were a bit over cooked and it was not too flavoursome but this could have been an off day. Service is very good, staff are attentive and smiley. it was quite easy for us to book on a Thursday evening. The atmosphere is super chill and homey- we got lucky to be seated next to the kitchen and could see all them prepping our dishes before bringing them out.   We visited Tantura while on vacation in Lisbon (August 2023) and we weren’t disappointed. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the bread and dips which were absolutely delicious.   I’ve finally decided to try Tantura after getting many recommendations from family & friends, so the expectations were quite high. I was not expecting, however, the gastronomical experience we had. The mix of flavors on every dish was absolutely magical. All the dishes we’ve tried were perfectly balanced and flavorful, made with fresh ingredients. Since we were eager to try as much as we possibly could, we’ve decided to go with the Tasting Menu option, where we were served many different starters and main dishes.   Loved the vibe here (not a place for quiet conversation). The staff were skilled, friendly and relaxed even though it was clearly super busy. We had no reservation but got lucky with only a short wait (less than 15 mins). My watermelon sour (vegan was the default, not the afterthought) was a delight and came garnished with dehydrated lime and a sprinkle of herbs. Menu includes a dizzying selection of veg dishes, each its own explosion of flavour. The smoked cauli was my fave. I don't understand why they have the need to blast loud electronic music in a place like that. It's also always super crowded and you might end up eating almost shoulder to shoulder with a stranger.   Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for a quick snack. The restaurant is designed eclectically which makes it quite appealing. The service is top!! The food was amazing the service was excellent. maybe to point out that you might need to wait a bit before you reservation as it is a highly demanded restaurant and people just don't want to leave fast after their food because it is a superbe atmosphere.   Been there three times now over the last years. The hummus is great, but service was not. We made a reservation, but had to wait 45 minutes. Last time our reservation was lost. More importantly, the other food was not as impressive as before. Still a good choice, but wouldn't recommend it as strongly as i did before no more.   We stumbled onto this incredible restaurant and thankfully they had a table for 2 available. I cannot express how delicious our meal was. My favourite was the Israeli hummus plate with falafel. The top us style was a great idea. The home is exceptional and we also enjoyed very much the cauliflower. All the dishes were good to and could have been served in a Street in Tel Aviv.   I am local to hummus and this type of food. I’ve had my fair share of hummus. Most of the time I get disappointed eating hummus not in Israel. I was pleasantly surprised. I only had the hummus and israeli salad but if the rest of the menu is as good as what I ordered then this place earned its 5 stars. The garbanzo beans in the hummus were a bit tough but I would not dock this place because of that. Great vegan option. Nice atmosphere.   Excellent Israeli restaurant in the middle of Lisbon's night life area. The restaurant is designed beautifuly with nice antiques and art works . The food was excellent - fresh ingredients, very tasty and refreshing. We really enjoyed the spicy and sweet coktail, the amazing pita bread baked in a special oven in the kitchen. Don't miss the Sabich with the egg and fried eggplants and the halwa parfait for dessert. We also loved the falfel balles that were really delicious and crispy from outside.   What a shame. I brought my parents here to remind my mum of her time in Israel. The music was so loud and everytime i asked to put it down it would go back up after 5mins. We could barely hear each other. My husband and father loved the grilled meats. Our Nepalese waiter is the only reason why service went to 3 stars. I also loved the barman as he recognised me from our last visit. So nice. My mum didnt feel the food was great and didn't think it reminded her of Israel. Prices expensive and small portions.   DELICIOUS!! I am extremely picky about my mediterranean food, being of mediterranean descent; however, this place was highly recommended to me by a friend, so I gave it a try. I was not disappointed!! From the starters to the meal, every ingredient was delicious and had thought behind its purpose. True artwork -- which is rare to find these days. Oh and the shakshuka -- I hate ordering shakshuka at restaurants because they rush it -- tomato sauce cannot be rushed. This shakshuka was the best I've ever had outside of my grandmother's kitchen.   This restaurant is one of my favourites in Lisbon. It’s a hidden gem in Barrio Alto and if you like Mediterranean cuisine this is the place to go. The service is top notch. The crew is amazing and friendly. They are very welcoming and take care of all dietary request and even give suggestions on things to do around town. They also make the restaurant feel very warm and open many times I’ve been here it’s been packed yet you still get prompt and excellent service. Food is also amazing. I recommend the meatball hummus so much flavour there and generous portions as well as the lebneh. Lastly the amount of vegan and vegetarian options are a big selling point when I mention to my non-meat eating friends. The restaurant can really cater to all.   We went to Tantura last night with a group of 4. The quick review is that it was outstanding! In more detail...we had a reservation, and were promptly seated. The waiter explained the specials and various menu items, offering suggestions. We ordered several things and shared everything. We ordered the minced meat hummus, the falafel (very moist and flavorful), the Israeli salad, the labanea, meat borrecas, meatball hummus and a simple tabula. Everything tasted so light and fresh. We actually loved everything, including their pita, but our favorites were probably the minced meat hummus, the israeli salad and the meat borrecas. We had A LOT of food, 4 very hungry customers, and 2 bottles of wine. Cost was ~€30/person and we left VERY full and totally satisfied. We will definitely return. Pedimos o hummus de carne picada, o falafel (bem húmido e saboroso), a salada israelita, a labanea, as borrecas de carne, o hummus de almôndega e uma tabula simples. Tudo tinha um sabor tão leve e fresco. Na verdade, adoramos tudo, inclusive o pão sírio, mas nossos favoritos eram provavelmente o hummus de carne picada, a salada israelense e as borrecas de carne. Comemos MUITA comida, 4 clientes famintos e 2 garrafas de vinho. O custo foi de ~€30/pessoa e saímos MUITO cheios e totalmente satisfeitos. Definitivamente voltaremos. É o nosso restaurante do Médio Oriente preferido em Lisboa até agora.

  Had the most amazing time at Tantura! We had to wait maybe 10 minutes for a table and they gave us free falafel for the wait. My friend and I split the smoked cauliflower and pepper hummus. Both were vegan and delicious! The pita that came with the hummus was so fluffy! Our other friend had a chicken meat platter with rice that was not on the menu. He loved it! Our waiter was FANTASTIC!   This place has easily the best hummus that you can get in Lisbon. We got the hummus sabich… and oh my word … the way the eggplant is roasted is indecent .. we almost were asking for just a plate of the eggplant! Overall the environment is cozy and with a beautiful esthetic. All the staff were happy and having fun together. The 2 owners even came in and were hugging everyone!   Usually a nice place to enjoy israeli food and good vibes, that's why we booked a table for NYE with them. We were notified by SMS only an hour before the actual reservation that there is a set menu with a 55€ per person price. This was never communicated while making the reservation a few days before, and left us without a choice to go with it, as it was last minute. We started off on the wrong foot and felt exploited. Everything was just off, it was a chaotic evening where we would randomly get a little plate of tahini for the entire table, and only after about half an hour a salad, and after another half an hour hummus. All this is after nudging the waiter and asking why arent we receiving everything to the table so we can actually eat. Didn't feel like a meal, and felt like the kitchen/staff couldn't handle serving all the tables that were there. They did end up charging "only" 45 from each person "for all the mistakes" without us asking for it, which was a nice gesture, but overall the evening was a flop. We booked a table for new years eve, days in advance and with 30 minute notice by text we were informed the menu was fixed and we had no other choice at 55 euros per person. I made a reservation for NYE one week ahead, and when we got there we were informed that there is an imposed menu of 55 euros/ person. While I think this is ok given that is NYE, I was extremely disappointed that this thing was not mentioned at all, neither on your website, or at the time of booking. And yet you did ask for the credit card and you were willing to charge 15 euros pp in case of a no show. I just don't find it fair. Perhaps you can improve your communication for the future.   Terrible meal. First off, I sat at the table to be informed of a set menu that was not communicated to us prior to arriving. As we paid a deposit I felt we couldn't back out. Then, the menu was verbally given: Breads and hummus Vegetables and rice Dessert Welcome drink Everything was poorly put together and felt like scraps of food on each plate.   I must say: the food was delicious and also great value for the price. We made a reservation over a month ago, but we were seated in the middle of the restaurant at a very uncomfortable spot. The table was narrow and high and we sat on some sort of bar stools without a backrest. My mum asked for another place, because het back was aching and there were still plenty of tables empty, but they were not flexible (regarding the seating). This was a pity, and made dining at this restaurant less relaxed and comfortable.   Unfortunately my experience was not good at all! Although I was very happy to finally be able to make it here, the service , the food and the ambient didn't at all meet my expectations. The server didn't know how to present the menu or clear any doubts about the items...to make her job easier she suggested a tasting menu that later i realized was not even in the menu and compared to other items much more expensive - I didn't know even what this tasting menu covered! Since I was with some other friends and eager to try out their dishes we accepted the tasting menu. The waiters rushed and brought us some plates and immediately cleared them since it was so little food that we ate quickly, then came rounds of pita and waiting, then some more similar plates as before, like hummus , cauliflower paste, very burned out falafels and a dish with salsa...again very little in the serving plates and more waiting and eating pita and at last came very little plates with eggs and later some sweets. None matched the number of guests! I felt really irritated, also because the music got louder and louder, so loud that I would say it was violent! I don't recommend this place.   My only regret is that I didn't go here until my last night in Lisbon! The atmosphere, food, and company are all A++. The limonada fresca and labneh salad are to die for. You can order menu items as small plates to share or a full meal. It is in Barrio Alto so bring your walking shoes for those stairs or take a cab.   Cute place, friendly service, but I had a claustrophobic meltdown in this place. We reserved a table for two, and I was shocked when I saw how close together the tables were clustered. I'm skinny but I still had to push a table aside just to squeeze through to my seat, which was up against a wall. It was like eating on an airplane. The place was packed to the rafters, and it was very loud. Unfortunately, the food did not redeem it. We ordered the special of the day, chicken shawarma, and it was greasy and full of bones. I've had better shawarma at take-out counters in Berlin. The food on other tables looked much better; maybe we would have been happier with hummus.   Worst dining experience I’ve had in 3 weeks dining throughout Lisbon and the rest of Europe. Came in and they could not find my reservation I made several days ago. Sat me at an uncomfortable bar seat. When they found my reservation 15 minutes later, they did not offer to move me to my actual table I had reserved. Was questioned and made to feel uncomfortable as to dining alone several times. It is not clear online, and only in small print on their menu that a number of items aren’t available until after 22:30. I was prepared to only not recommend this restaurant to solo travelers, but then the food was very mediocre and overpriced. The hummus had no flavor, and the roasted vegetable salad was overly drenched in oil. Cannot recommend to anyone. They have great food and good cocktails (although small). I didn’t mind the small menu so much, but the fact that some options were only available after a certain time, and you only reserve your table for 1 1/2 hours, at least that’s what I was told. I enjoyed the environment, although very loud (maybe I chose the wrong days). But what I was bothered most about were the prices of the drinks. I would return any day for the sauces and the homemade bread.   There were a bunch of different vegan things on the menu. The waiter let us know that we could also do a vegan tasting experience, which covers about 80% of the menu.   Had dinner there with a friend because of the raving reviews and Lonely Planet feature. We came a little before 6.30 pm. They asked us if we would like some bread and olives since they don't have appetizers on the menu. Sure we thougt. Right after they bring the bread they recommend the tasting menu which we then order. Before we even have a couple of bites of the bread they bring ALL of the dishes of the tasting menu. We felt rushed. The tables are also very small so we couldn't even eat properly. We had gotten all of our food by 7 pm. Before we even finish they ask if they can bring dessert. We ask the waitress to wait and she brings it anyway because it's a cold dessert, so she says it doesn't matter. We were out of there by 7.30 pm.   The most confusing and bizarre restaurant experience. Food is below average, very beige and cleverly filled up on breads if you get the tasting menu so you no longer have room for the main event. I’m not even sure where to start with the service though… you’re never left alone to relax and eat. There’s the most confusing colleague relationship between 1) the waiters and 2) young women. The women come and ask to clear your plates so often that one put our plate down for dessert and another came and asked to clear our plates… before we’d eaten dessert? If you ask for a drink they say “let me ask the waiter” and when the waiter comes the girls come with them like a side kick? Just utterly bizarre. So rushed, felt uncomfortable to eat and unfortunately a poor spend of money. Re the tasting menu, it’s advertised as 10 dishes, try and fill you up with bread for first 5 then delay bringing out the others and said “the chef would like to know if you’d like to continue”. We had the smoked cauliflower, labneh (with couscous), hummus with meat, shakshuka, pita sabich, and halva for dessert.   Used to be a nice place but they kinda disrespect their customers by fitting them in such tiny space. If you look for a cozy place to have dinner and chat with your friends just forget.   Scrumptious stuff. Can’t wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the menu. Cool, laid-back vibe, attention to detail throughout and most importantly;well thought out recipes. Everything looks to be made in house and it’s priced very affordably. I will keep Tantura in my back pocket as a go-to restaurant for when I’m struggling to pick somewhere in Barrio Alto.   A truly surprising and unforgettable experience. We were warmly welcomed by the nicest staff we've seen in a while. Since we were there the first time, they offered us a tasting menu, which gave us the chance to try almost every dish on the menu. The 'tasting' menu was massive, each portion bigger than the last and they never stopped coming. We could not finish the food, and took some for home and finished up with some great coffee and a short chat with the owner. Complements to the loveliest staff, amazing chefs and a fantastic owner.   Busy place. Not sure why it is so popular the food was decent but had no flavor. We were charged 4.10€ for bread we didn’t order and were not told it wasn’t included when they brought it to the table or before we were seated. Would not go back. Such a great experience coming to this restaurant, we visited Lisbon from Israel and on a Friday looked for a nice place to eat - we found this place and decided what is a better to spend Friday night than by eating Israeli food. The food is amazing, each and every one of the dishes we tasted had a homemade with love taste to it and it also looked great. We really enjoyed the salad which was a surprise to us because we didn’t really get how the dressing fits the salad - BUT IT DID. The place also looks really nice and homely.   What a wonderful find in Bairro Alto! We got here at 11pm on a weekday, and everything that we ordered was amazing. This included: fallafel, hamshuka (must get!), hunmus meat, and the dish of the day was chicken with rice. But for me, the standout was the desserts: halva and chocolate truffles!   I went back here after a few years but the quality is not what it used to be. There are still a lot of vegetarian option. The food is still delicious but the service was not good. It took a while before we could order. They forgot one of my dishes and I had to ask. The waiter was to busy flirting with the women at one of the tables and completely ignored the other people to the point of being rude. The music was loud and the tables were placed in a way that the waiter had to walk into my boyfriend everytime he passed him to get to other tables.   I came here to eat as a solo diner and was honestly a bit surprised after sitting down. First I had no plans on eating here, I stopped in while roaming the neighborhood and looked inside and well, it seemed inviting, so I gave it a shot. The place wasn't busy so I was seated straightaway. The waitress who worked with me was very helpful in picking items from the menu that appealed to my tastes; I went with a meatball pita and an eggplant salad. Both of which were delicious. One thing to note though, the eggplant states that it comes with cilantro/coriander and that's not true unless you specify that you actually want coriander, aside from that delicious. Prices were great and the mood/music was equally as good. I would definitely recommend the place if you're in the area.   This was easily some of the best Middle Eastern cuisine I've had in my life. The restaurant has wonderful ambience and a very kind, genuine staff. Come here and nourish your soul. Pictured: the veggie shakshuka, which was simply decadent. I also had a date-sweetened lemonade.   Great Israeli food, thoroughly enjoyed it. The people running the place are friendly and they took time to explain all the dishes. The best thing to do would be to go as a big group, order a few dishes and share. Coming from London, the food seemed really good value for money too, which is a bonus!
