So fresh and authentic Indian. Some of the best we have had in Europe. Wide variety of dishes. The chicken in our dishes was so tender and flavors were spot on. 3 of the 4 days stay in Lisbon last week, had dinner at this restaurant and it was just a wonderful experience with good food, service and cleanliness. The dishes tasted authentic and legit. Genuine piece of Kerala in the middle of Lison! We tried almost everything on the menu. Our favourites were authentic fish curry, fish pollichathu, Kerala porotta and beef curry. Other star items were Chicken biriyani, chicken varutharachathu, puttu, pidi and kozhi. Everything was extremely delicious. We didnt want to go back from this place because of this restaurant. We returned here for every meal. Still cant forget the taste of puttu and fish pollichathu. So many vegetarian, vegan food options. Puttu and kadala curry was marvellous. We tried unni appam and panchamrutham which i suggest everyone to have at the restaurant while it’s served hot. Would 100% return here if we are visiting Lisbon again. Met the chefs who are from Kochi and Kozhikode who know the heart and soul of Kerala cuisine. You wont be disappointed. Arguably the food was equally delicious as the food we get in Kerala ! Dosas were middling at best; neither soft nor crunchy so they just ended up being rubber-esque. I could make a better dosa at home. Kitchen put barely any chutney at all, and then charged us 1.50 for each extra serving that we ordered because they didn't give enough. Would suggest avoiding Dosa in general here. I have had a chance to dine in here few times and everytime I have been here they exceeded my expectations. This is the only authentic Indian restaurant in Lisbon. This was probably the best Indian food I've had in my life. I've never actually been to India, but I have eaten plenty of Indian food in my life, in different countries and this restaurant might be the best of them all. Aside from how tasty and well seasoned and prepared the food was, they also have some dishes that you rarely find in other Indian restaurants like dosas. The interior was unique and beautiful. We ordered for almost 100 euro takeaway....6 Porotta,that cost 4.10 euro..each. along with we ordered lots of food...the Porotta was covered in white paper stikking to the food..afterwards children showed us paper from the Porotta while eating. when called to the owner he said it was made in there.. The 2 stars is only for the rose petal ice cream. This restaurant is not even 50% authentic with its claim of Kerala cuisine. The Kerala Porotta turned out to be the dry North Indian laccha paratta. I told the waiter this and he took 50% off the bread . I came here last year October and it was more authentic. Has the chef or management changed? And there were only North Indians who could not get head or tail about Kerala . However service was fairly okay . My husband (Indian, originally from Kerala) and I (German) went here for lunch today on our last day of vacation in Portugal. I’ve lived in India, Kerala for a year in 2014 and therefore very well know the authentic South Indian cuisine, especially Kerala’s cuisine. I had ordered a Masala Dosa, Kadala Curry with Puttu (my favorite dish), two Uzhunnu Vada as well as two Parippu Vada. My husband had ordered Chicken 65 and Beef Pepper Fry. Everything we ordered was delicious. For everyone having second thoughts: I genuinely doubt you get that authentic AND tasty Kerala dishes at every other corner. Service was kind and quick, I cannot understand the complains. The owner is very approachable and has a chit-chat with all his customers making sure everything is fine. He talked to us for at least 15-20 minutes. Very nice guy! I do highly recommend eating here if you want to try or crave yummy and authentic Kerala cuisine. I understand Lisbon is far off from Kerala. But the experience and food deserves no stars. One of our members was very thirsty, we requested for water from the time we sat down, took 15 minutes for water. The refill we requested came after another 20 minutes. It was about 2.50 per bottle, filled tap water, no chilling too. Kottanad fish curry, Madras Chicken and Chicken Tikka masala, all came in same sauce. The Amritsari naan was filled with potato masala from dosa. The Uzhundu Vada was made with with very old batter, it was brown colored inside and chicken 65 was in a pool of oil. The garlic naan, the fish polichathu where the only fresh dishes. Rice was old, reheated with one star anise in each order. No chai was available, only tea bag option. The food was good, but I wouldn't call it truly authentic. Maybe most of the days they are, but on the day we visited, we ordered vazhutharacha beef, and it turned out to be just a normal beef curry. Really good quality food, some of the dishes are very authentic South Indian and an aubergine based curry i ordered I felt was not that authentic South Indian but more of a usual Indian curry, the taste was still very good though. The owner was very humble, approached us at the table and when there was a slight misunderstanding in the list of items when the order was taken, she explained the reason and was very apologetic, it was so kind! Didn’t expect to find a good Indian food in Lisbon, but was pleasantly surprised. The food (at least the dishes I tried) was excellent, very flavorful and deliciously spicy. The portions are on the smaller side, but still totally satisfying (I’ll always take quality over quantity). The service was polite and efficient. The menus are available in several languages and the waiters speak English. The only downside is the price, the restaurant is relatively expensive in comparison to the surrounding restaurants. Visited the restaurant few weeks ago. Ambience was very good. Not impressed with the food though. The brinjal curry was very sweet. I guess a lot of sugar was in it. My apologies if all the south indian curries cooks with sugar instead of salt in it. I don't know much about the south indian food because I tried it for the first time. I love south Indian food and have been to many South Indian restaurants. Drove past the Kerala Restaurent whilst on holiday in Lisbon and was craving Kerala food so thought we’d pop in. Once our food arrived we realised this isn’t a South Indian Authentic Kerala restaurant at all. It was a basic Indian restaurant catered for foreigners. Lamb and Chicken curries were bland and not spicy like we had asked for. Also the Kerala Parota wasn’t the traditional Malabar Parota but seemed like the frozen ready made ones. We loved everything about this restaurant: the food, the ambiance and the staff! First, the food was delicious. The restaurant offers a huge range of curries, including vegetarian curries, and other dishes. We came to the restaurant twice in one weekend because we loved the food so much. Both times we ordered two starters and two curries, so we actually tried eight different dishes and we enjoyed all of them. Furthermore, the staff are very nice and gave us a table although we came to the restaurant quite late and they were about to close soon. Both times we were at the restaurant the chef even came to ask the guests if everything was alright and to chat a bit with them. Overall, we had a really great experience here. Food is excellent BUT the waiters were very unwelcoming especially the female who threw the menu on the table. The bald waiter also was not interested in serving and bored of his job. All the waiters avoided eye contact while walking by so that they dont see you calling them. The owner should understand that no eye contact means people cannot call them to order more and its bad for their business. Not once did any waiter come to check if i needed anything. Its the first time that I left a restaurant without leaving a tip because the place was not full but grabbing attention of the waiters was a Super human task. I love south Indian food and had my fair share while living in India (and also in San Francisco). This place was was sadly a disappointment for vegetarians. The "vegetable stew" felt like frozen mixed vegetables with a few spices added in - peas, carrots, onions, some small bits of potato. Gross. Portions were super small compared to other Indian restaurants. We were all still hungry after sharing 5 dishes amongst 4 people. With a few extra orders of rice and bread. Oddly, all but 1 of the dosa options (that had spiced mashed potatoes) had no filling. €10 seems steep for an unfilled dosa. Maybe it was just specific to the veg dishes, because the restaurant seemed full. But I won't be returning. Service felt strange to us. I couldn't figure out why. One night in Lisbon, my friend and I wanted good Indian food. I've been living in Germany for a few years, and I miss the deep flavor, spices, and heat that exists in authentic South Indian food. After seeing the reviews, we decided to give Kerala a try -- and we were not disappointed. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The staff was super friendly and patient as they helped my friend (who never had Indian food) navigate the menu. We liked it so much we went back THREE times during our stay in Lisbon. Had a bad mood spoiling experience with the staff as they come and told me to outside water bottles are not allowed even if you are with the child. Ask for a glass so they make sure they only give one glass for the child to make sure other can’t drink water from their own bottle while having a food in the restaurant. I liked the food, it was pretty tasty, but when reading the reviews I expected something more I guess. The best was definitely the Chicken 65, nicely spicy, great flavors. The tikka masala was good, but not the best honestly. Also the portion was kinda small, they could at least fill the whole pot. Same with the mango lassi, smallest portion with comparison to other places. The service is the weakest part though. I was given an incomplete menu, which is very annoying for the first time visitor. Also the place wasn't that busy at the time, but calling someone for an order or to pay was a superhuman task. I don't think I've actually had good Indian food before coming here. I had the house curry with lamb and garlic naan to eat the curry with. The flavor is simply incredible and the texture is similarly fantastic. I've never seeked out curry in my life but I would certainly make an exception here. It was a great level of spice for me (mild level). I also had the rose petal ice cream which has a really good and unique flavor, tasting exactly how a rose smells, albeit the flavor was intense. The most authentic and tasty Kerala food I’ve had in Europe, probably better than most of the restaurants in Kerala itself. My wife and I visited the place and as expected it was full, but surprisingly we were the only Indians there! It was an absolute delight to watch the people there relishing the delicacies from far across the globe. The food was good for the price and came quickly. The waiters and the owner were extremely nice and talkative. We considered ordering two basmati rice and naan bread but the waiter warned that one would probably be enough for both of us which was very true! Such amazing service . Kerala we love you! There is a lot of "Indian" places in Lisbon, but so many are adjusted to the Portuguese palate (not very spicy, sometimes overly sweet). This place was NOT and we loved it! Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Lisbon - and one of my faves anywhere in the world. I've been to India (including Kerala) many times, and lived mostly in London, so I've eaten a lot of fantastic Indian food. The tastes here are spot on. It's hard to pick a highlight - the dosas are amazing, the paratha, all the curries we've tried are fantastic, but my particular favourite is the Kerala Pepper Masala, which is a semi dry curry. Add to the food, the service is attentive, friendly, and helpful without being overbearing. Can't wait to go back. Amazing experience at this restaurant! We ate outside. One of the owners came to our table and greeted us personally, sharing her story as an immigrant and expressing her joy at being able to share her culture with us. She went so far as to invite us to come back the following day to join her family in celebrating Diwali, which we unfortunately couldn't work into our plans. I was in Lisbon for a week and everyday I visited! The chef is the owner and is very passionate about creating genuine dishes from his Homeland with local ingredients. This is a difficult task as the rice for Dosa and Puttu is used differently in Kerala. Kerala cuisine is awesome and it is connected to Portugal. If you visit Maritime museum and the Sintra Palace you can see the Kerala/Cochin connection. When l go to a local ethnic restaurant my criteria is quickly to check if the native eaters are coming. This Indian restaurant certainly gets recognition from their own people. The food is good, the restaurant is clean and neat. The service is friendly. The choices are wide. A great place also for vegetarians and vegans. My curry chicken choice was delicious and it was served medium spicy upon my wish. I could easily have tolerated a spicier one as this ”medium level spicy” tasted light to me. Nevertheless it was very tasty. Also the south Indian food Masala Dosa served in a crunchy crepe with stewed potatoes , lentils and beans, on the side with chutney sauce appears to be their signature dish. The owner of this restaurant is wonderful human being. I have to share my experience, I was on a trip to Lisbon and searching for some temporary workplace. I searched for an Indian restaurant and called to the restaurant finding on google. Unhesitatingly he invited me to the restaurant and fed me knowing I’m hungry without any charge. An exceptional South Indian restaurant in Lisbon. They serve very different and marvellous items. I am from south part of India and was very glad to see authentic traditional Kerala dishes for reasonable prize. I highly recommend this one to the locals and tourists as you can feel the real taste of Kerala. Loved, enjoyed and felt like home!
