  Went there for dinner. The codfish and Sardines were amazing. Tasty and well cooked. The starter with fried codfish was amazing as well. Make sure to try homemade green wine of theirs. The environment and vibe is amazing. You have the fado music performance and lovely atmosphere. Everything about it was great. The staff are very friendly and you have a big menu with alot of options to choose from. It is a traditional Portuguese place and everything looks local from our perspective.   This place could be better, if just a little more effort was put into it. We were invited in by a friendly man outdoors, the location looked nice and they have outdoors fado. The food was good, but sardines a little on the saltier side. Outdoor tables are all on an incline so be extra careful with your food and drinks. Staff were helpful, but could have done things with a bit more smile :) The fado was absolutely lovely and that I will give 5/5 stars. Not sure about other reviews saying there was only a brief one show. Must depend on the night because for us there was some fado music, then a break and then some more several times. Finally the bill - felt a bit costlier than it should have been. Overall, the experience was good but with a little bit more care in all aspects, it could have been much better.   We went after our tuktuk driver recommended this place and we had to go twice! It was that good and worth the money! Big portions and great fado music. The only downside is tye first time a waiter or owner was a bit rude to us, but still gave it a second shot and the 2nd time round he was not there and they were so kind!   Well, if you read some of the reviews (which unfortunately I did not before coming to this restaurant), you would know that you have to avoid this place. Firstly, the food is average, price are instead about 20/30% higher than in the rest of the area. A sangria glass was 6,50 euros, which in Alfama is an outregoeous price. The service is super rude, as an example my girlfriend was told to take her stuff and leave the table while I was paying the bill inside the restaurant. They had some live fado music , but basically it was some improvvised concert, very poor quality. There was a lady shouting to the tourists during their dinner. It is a real tourist trap, avoid!   Amazing food!!! Mixed fish for 1 is enough for 2 ! Sopa di Bacalaho is an amazing value for money with plenty of fish inside. Salad and fish are perfectly seasoned and you don’t need to add any salt nor aceto. Fado was the true one (5 people changing, all better than the other). It was amazing, as I accidentally paid 25 euros for some Fado experience in a winery called Calem in Porto (don’t do that, it’s not worth it). Also, go for the VINHO DE CASA - amazing wine :))) Btw, the sitting on the steep hill is part of the charm, don’t be bitter! (Traduzido pelo Google) Comida incrível!!!   The service was outstanding and the music was really magical. Such a fantastic evening with plentiful food and wine. Only criticism was it was 4 hours long and there were no dietary requirement allowances made. I couldn't eat a lot of it with my food intolerances but my partner enjoyed it.   We went here randomly on New Year's Eve when our previous reservation for another fado tavern fell through and we were so lucky it did! Food was very good, big portions, decent prices, the atmosphere was amazing, live fado music, cheerful crowd, and the service was surprisingly fast for the amount of people that were there. We ordered the beef with chestnuts and the Portuguese steak. The only thing we didn't like was the house (white) wine.   I enjoyed diner here as a tourist just passing by, on a Tuesday evening 29 november 2022. There were few other guests, but still two guitarists and a singer were playing Fado music, truly authentic, as was their fantastic fish stew, à 15 euro. I tasted two large glasses of equally great wines, the standard white and the red, and ate a lovely Portuguese desert. The service was excellent, they didn't mind at all that I misplaced my glass on the wide table paper and broke it, and the waiter brought me a newly filled glass instead! I only wish I had had more company to share this great restaurant experience with and talk, drink, listen and eat together the whole evening.   I have passed this restaurants many times because almost every time you can hear Fado there and is well positioned in Alfama. Initially I avoided it because I do not particularly like when I am approached by someone to enter their place. However, the experience was actually great. The food was way more and better than expected, great service and also, Fado :) Good prices too! We ordered a portion of Sardines and one of Frango Asado.   Sangria was great, even though the waiter didn’t know what’s in it and said the base is NOT wine. Overall, he was friendly, but his English not the best. The music was great, the food mediocre. The first few bites were good, but the more you ate, the more bones or chunks of fat appeared topped with a grande finale of weird dry bread on which the meat was piled up on. Not at all like the pictures in the menu, which the waiter warned us about.   There were tourists here. With that said, there was also a number locals. The lady running the place had everything going like clock work. She was very friendly and happy to find us a good spot. Server was fair, not exceptional. The atmosphere is really good as long as some of my fellow Americans keep their volume down. You sit in an outdoor area if you choose, right along a narrow old street with a fair amount of foot traffic which can be good viewing. The other good viewing is the Fado music. Great performances and I thought the guitarists were really outstanding. Food was traditional and mine was excellent cod dish with potatoes. Great large beer for cheap as well.   Horrible experience, food is very basic and won’t be cooked for you. Chorizo or cod croquettes are already cooked and microwaved when you order. Bread is not fresh and comes in a plastic bag. Octopus is tinned and extremely expensive. We paid 44 euro for the worst dinner out in Lisbon including an extra 2 euro fee for cutlery.   Food was kinda ok if you like 2mm thick "house beefsteak". The fado - I personally did not like it, especially when the fat guy started by tuning his instrument next to our table quite loudly. After the fado was done, 2 guys playing started smoking cigarettes at the entrance where we had our (already inside) table. The owner at the end tried old trick with "not working" terminal to force us to pay with cash, maybe he tried to avoid taxes or something? Because we got also hand written bill. I said nope, then he gave the terminal to the waitress and she magically fixed it with 2 clicks xD Btw. never order cappuccino there because it's 4,5€ and you won't get cappuccino but some cold bitter fluid with whipped cream and cinnamon on the top. The host was speaking a bit English but he was trying at least. The food was ok and the (green) wine was good.   I would give 0 stars if that's possible. Worst food I ate in Lisbon. Lunch menu is nothing else than scam; food was inedible and really awful; greasy, small portions, bread served with soup was hard as rock. Soup tasted like nothing. Main course was that bad that I decided not to eat the dessert and leave this place immediately. Waiter was not even surprised when I told him my opinion. I wish I never visit that place because I ruined my day. Ironically, during our visit, a pigeon flew inside and no-one from the employees did anything about it. Place itself is really dirty. Avoid this "restaurant" unless you want to be disappointed. I was mad at myself that I didn't check google opinions before our visit there. Lesson learnt.   Amazing hidden gem. Didn’t expect to find this place at all and then we stumbled into this original restaurant. We were surrounded by locals and they were playing fado music all night. Everyone, including me, took a part in singing for a while with the band. At first I thought it was rude, but they encouraged me, and I thought „oh well, I might give sth back towards this amazing hospitality“. Food was excellent, allthough next time I would prefer a good amount of more oil. Waiter was one of a kind. His attentiveness beyond amazing.   Food was ok at best. Service was mediocre/poor. Fado was great but they only played for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Only complaint is the musicians came around after and asked us to buy their cd for 10 eur - I would have preferred to just give them a tip and check out their Spotify or Apple Music… I would not recommend this spot, we had to go last minute due to the restaurant we wanted to go to being packed.   The food was not great, the seafood rice didn't have cleaned shrimp which is very annoying to eat especially for what it costs. My girlfriend's dinner was overcooked. Completely overpriced. The owners hang around at tables and talking loudly amongst each other. The Fado was obnoxiously loud, and they tried selling CDs afterwards to each table. I don't recommend it at all. Had a better experience in many other places near it.   Impressive dinner. Best quality-price ratio. We had dinner, green wine, dessert, coffee and tea for less than 40 euro for two people. The taste was superb. Best option if you don't want the typical local food (we're not into fish) You can listen to some Fado from the restaurant next door (Sao rafael) which was our first option but has awful reviews.   Enjoyed a pleasant evening on the front terrace very close to our rented apartment in Alfama. Both the red and white Portuguese house wines were very good and the cheese plate was excellent with a very tasty selection of different Portuguese cheeses, all very reasonably priced.   Look, I don't disagree with the other reviews. The food is mediocre at best (even the tea is from a Lidl brand) and the place has all the markings of a tourist trap. But, hear me out. The good, traditional, Fado places are so small that you won't get in without a reservation and the other (bigger) places didn't look so good as well. So, the octopus had 8 tentacles, the salmon was definitely a fish, there was wine and it wasn't horribly expensive AND there is Fado. Now, I'm no Fado expert, but the singing and musicians where good, we really enjoyed it. So this places gets the 3 stars because it made Fado accessible.   Invited (by the herders outside on the street) to dine and listen to free FADO music, and the high prices of food and drinks suggested it was a relatively good dining facility - WRONG. The outside Tables are on a fairly severe slope and certainly not conducive to comfortable dining. Both the Food and Drinks were not up to any normal standard. Curiously, they would not sell wine by the glass but by the Carafe - strange - and my wife left half of hers behind because it was not good. My orange juice was small and I was charged 5 Euro and when I questioned that I was told it was to pay for the (free) FADO music. AVOID THIS PLACE if you can and do not be persuaded by the herders.   Don't go here! Definately a tourist trap. I ordered the fish platter (for €18,00!) and never had such disgusting food in a restaurant before. Fish was extremely dry and greasy; I barely ate anything because it was so gross. The salad and lemon wedges were warm. Most definately came out of the microwave (I think it got heated up more than once). My boyfriend went to the bathroom later on and actually saw the cooks put platters into the microwave. When the waiter took away our plates I told him I thought the food was very bad, at which he did not respond. To make everything else worse, the waiter put food on our tab which we did not order (bread with cold cuts when we sat down, so we thought it was free) and turned out to be €12,00. The response of the waiter? You eat, you buy. Unbelievable. Definately my worst spent €55,00. Such a shame, because the location is great and the Fado Music is terrific.   Great Fado music at night, good food, the beer is reasonably priced. Many many places in Lisbon are tourist traps but this one really wasn't in terms of quality of food and price.   I don’t understand all these terrible reviews. We ordered off the 13 euro specials menu and it was delicious. The special comes with, bread, a soup, beer and/ or wine, entree, dessert and coffee. We ordered: octopus, chicken salad and a cod and rice dish. We also ordered from the normal menu and got cod soup and pimiento salad. Everything was delicious!! Beer and wine is inexpensive and tasty. Then musicians began playing and two singers sang fado music which was a beautiful end to the meal. We came just after lunch around 15:30 (3:30 for people who don’t understand 24 hour time) and we just relaxed enjoyed the atmosphere. They removed 90% of the fish / seafood options so we weren’t left to choose from many items. The wine glass was very small and the food was subpar. Overall, would not recommend.   Tourist trap! We stayed in an Aibnbn closeby and decided to give it a try... the first guy who greeted us didn't even speak Portuguese! They brought appetizers to our table with the tale that if we don't eat, we don't pay. We did not like that. We did not ask for it and if they leave it on our table and we don't eat that means they just take it to someone else's table? The waiters were extremely rude. I asked for a 500 mL beer and he acted as if I was crazy for asking for such an unknown thing. When I pointed to it in the menu, he said "that's 50 cL not 500 mL". Problem is, the menu actually said 0.5 cL, which is just absurd! The food was mediocre, a lot of it did not taste fresh. I really really do not recommend. The starters we ordered were clearly not made fresh and had been sitting under a hot plate for some time making them inedible. Definitely avoid!   My 1st one star to a restaurant. People, avoid this place! They tried to steal 7 euros by increasing the price of each food we ordered in the bill. When told to show the menu to check the real prices, they brought back with the good one. No appologies, nothing, not even a word! Poor food quality for such high price. As soon as you sit down, you will be served a basked of bread and cheese - only take it, if you want to pay for it. That’s quite a common thing in most of the restaurants in Portugal. The fado music was alright though, however can’t compare as it was our first time listening to it. Food was average. €15 for a roasted octopus. Bottles of wine are expensive. €20 for bottle of Muralhas (popular vinho verde) that you can buy for €3,75 at any shop. You will be better ordering a 0,5 l of their house wine for €10. Waiters were fine. Well. Most of the time we choose a place based on trip advisor reviews. Once we didn’t and we got screwed.   To whom this may concern, I cannot understate the importance of this review, so please read carefully. My experience at this restaurant was nothing short of horrific. First, we arrived at the restaurant to a series of "free" appetizers, which the waiter failed to mention were subject to charge. Next, we ordered "large" beers, which were 10 euros/person. Once again, the waiter intentionally misguided us regarding the price. Second, to say that the food was horrendous would be a vast understatement. The fish was filled with bones, wreaked of garlic, and tasted like salt water from the Dead Sea. All 7 of us were beyond disgruntled with the quality and quantity of our food. Third, the meal featured a musical performance which was distasteful at best. My friend was "shushed" numerous times for conversing and the man who performed looked/smelled like a poorly-groomed homeless man off the streets of New York City. Finally, the price was egregious. Each of us spent upwards of 30 euros for what was, all in all, a terrible experience plagued with failures at every level.   I ordered a fish plate with potatoes but got crockpot, which I really hate. The waiter didn’t really understand English and was kind of useless. The sangria (green one) was the worst in Lisbon or even the worst I ever had. The only upside were really good fado singers, but they left after two songs.   Terrible food, mediocre service.. almost everything was microwaved and the fish was frozen which is completely unacceptable for its price.   Worst service and food ever. Ordered beer a couple appetizers and water. Only the water and 1 of the few appetizers arrived. We tried to get the rest but the server didn't care. We tried to pay and he charged us for everything, we had to fight to get the tens we didn't had removed from the bill.   We have been here for fado on sunday evening. Unfortunetly, we barely heard nothing because od people chatting ( fado takes place outdoor), but the real problem was the food, which has given us stomach problem the data after. We have been eating rice with seafood and bachalau croqeuts- they were pretty good , yet it was not anything special.   Restaurant with fado music. They bring you starters before you ask. I personally dont like it as this is like forcing the client to oder more.
