  It’s a “only-tapas” place in the heart of Lisbon. The environment is very cozy, and full of energy. The food is really tasty and delicious, you’re going to feel like in Spain.   Loved this place. Tapas Bar 52 has a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service with a huge selection of tapas dishes to delight. We arrived during late afternoon and we intended to pop in for a refreshing beer only. However, the aroma took over and we couldn't help ourselves. One sample turned into another and before long we had ourselves a very early dinner! I defy anyone not to do the same. The place was so jam packed that the guy at the next table rested his elbow on our table. Food and service were excellent, however. It had a good vibe and music, the dishes we ordered were tasty, but the thing that really bugged me was that when we were seated, the servers put bread, aioli and sliced chorizo on the table - we did not order these dishes, they were put on every table on arrival as if they were complimentary. When the cheque came: 2.20 for bread, 1.60 for aioli and 6.50(!) for chorizo... none of which we ordered! I don't mind paying a few extra euros for bread, etc. but 6.50 for chorizo!...   I can’t believe this place doesn’t have 5*! The most delicious tapas I’ve ever had. Favourite dishes were the patatas bravas (super crispy), meatballs (I wouldn’t have chosen these but wow they were 10/10), garlic shrimps, manchego. They put bread, alioli and chorizo on your table to start which isn’t complimentary and you can leave it and you won’t get charged, but for us we loved it as a snack whilst we perused the menu. Big beers and some port. Very reasonable compared to London prices! Loads of food and 3 big beers each for less than 50 euros each. The waiter was great too and gave us free shots because we moved to the bar to free up our outside table. We were so full, merry and then went to barrio alto after for some 🕺.   Go for more of the vibe and atmosphere than food. As previous reviews have mentioned they do drop some bread, chorizo and aioli onto you when you are first seated. It isn't complimentary and you can say no. Food would be ok if it was cheaper, definitely overpriced for the quality you get. For example the olives were like €7, and were a bit young and bitter. But the vibe and location is great. Our waiter recommended a great bottle of wine (probably because it was the most expensive, but it was still great). The peppers and the stuffed mushroom were the standout dishes. We also got the rabbit, garlic shrimp, patatas bravas and a crispy pork roll (croquet), all of which were ok at best. We went on a Wednesday night and got a seat inside pretty easily. The place is bigger than it seems from the outside and the wait staff create an almost artificial busy/hectic atmosphere by taking away plates straight away. O lugar é maior do que parece do lado de fora e os garçons criam uma atmosfera movimentada / agitada quase artificial, retirando os pratos imediatamente. Vale a pena tomar alguns drinks e talvez um ou dois pratos para começar a noite, mas não planeje isso como seu único jantar.

  Great restaurant with an old charm. I was here for lunch and had risotto and octopus both very tasty. I don't understand the complaints about having to pay for a starter, I was offered one but that's normal in Lisbon and if you don't want a starter you can refuse it. Some items were decent, others were incredibly meh. I would recommend skipping it.   The host sat us quickly and we were greeted with delicious garlic butter and chorizo. Our server was a little slow to take our order but it didn’t bother us much. We did get a little annoyed because the table next to us had sat down after we had ordered and received their food faster. However, all was forgotten when our dishes arrived. They were fantastic! Our favorite was the stuffed mushrooms with cheese and ham. SO good! The bravas potatoes weren’t traditional but still amazing. Another favorite was the fried goat cheese with tomato jam. Meatballs were good too but the other dishes stole the show. Best part was how reasonably priced the food was especially in such a touristic area. Highly recommend! However, I was quite disappointed by the tourist trap they tried to set us up: they serve our table with ham, bread and alioli and didn't mention about the significant extra charge (10€ or 20% our bill) - so beware of it (for this reason I took 1 out of the 5 stars).   We have eaten here 5 times in our 2 weeks here in Lisbon. We love the food, staff and atmosphere. Sometimes a short wait but we’ll worth the wait. The shrimp risotto & grilled octopus were a surprise hit with us! The mushroom risotto was also very good as well as all their salads. Very good wine selection with a knowledgeable staff to help you. We look forward to returning to Lisbon and our first stop will be Tapas Bar 52! We returned 12/3 & 12/4/2022 They did not disappoint. The food was delicious!   We live nearby and this is one of our local favourites. A little higher priced than some but the extra cost is well worth it for the consistently great food and friendly efficient staff. Best Padron peppers in Lisbon, great goat cheese salad, prawns perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend this place. The staff are outstanding. Try out the wine store next door, also very good.   As soon as we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the waiter welcoming us with bread, aioli and chorizo. Seemed like a good start. We unfortunately were quite disappointed about the food we ordered. Seafood dishes pimped up with a lot of things but not fish, aiolli potatoes which were in the end just cold potatos with mayonnaise around etc. To sum it up food was unfortunately quite disappointing apart from the welcoming dish. Until we discovered that the "welcoming dish" was costing us actually 10 euro (was never mentioned). Sadly to say but I would not recommend this place at all. Food is less than mediocre, service is slow and they are trying to trap you. Better go to one of the other places around.   First visit in the afternoon is pretty chill here. I had scrambled eggs with asparagus, spring roll and panna cotta. All of them are tasty. It would be better if the panna Cotta is less sweet.   We had lunch at Tapas 52 on a Sunday with 4 people. We ended up here, because most restaurants were closed on Sunday. They have a extended list of dishes to choose from, as well as a list of specials. We asked for recommendations from the waiter and were advised patatas bravas and pork cheek, which were both great dishes. The pork cheek was very tender, prepared in a red wine sauce. Their version of patats bravas was also delishes. Further on we ordered calamares, which weren't that great. Picanha which was good, and rabbit which was OK. Surprisingly it was a cold dish. As it is Spanish type of menu don't expect to have the Portuguese experience though they do have some Portuguese items mentioned on the wall(but we didn't try). Definitely for Gambas a alho you will find better taste and much bigger portion in any other restaurant. The place inside had weird smell and the level of hygiene is bad.   Were walking by, wondering where to have dinner, and liked the look of the menu. The place was packed, but we got a table for 2 straight away. A server brought some breads, cured sausage and aioli to have while we perused the menu. We ended up choosing the lamb leg special, grilled asparagus, batatas bravas which the server recommended, and a salt cod dish that was new for me (bacalhau à bras) made with fried shredded potato and egg. For dessert we shared a crema catalana. We also chose cocktails and I was very appreciative when the server stopped me from ordering the 'spicy orange' which apparently contains a lot of pepper. (I'd been imagining something more along the lines of cinnamon and nutmeg!) All the food was very flavourful and the portions were good. The decor was really cool with photos of Hollywood icons and retro posters lining the walls, and the service was very friendly and helpful. We paid €79 (plus tip), which we found a little steep considering we had been looking for somewhere cheap, and this place definitely has a bit of a dive bar vibe, but I guess all the yumminess adds up!   I had the best fun in the bar. Diego is a very talented bartender that made me drink after amazing drink! I just named the spirit and he created a cocktail I loved.   Food: horrible and overpriced. Probably the worst Spanish tapas I have ever had in my life. Calamares were all shriveled up like raisins. Spring roll was actually an microwaved egg roll and was probably the best item we tried, which shows how bad everything else was. Atmosphere: Good Service: OK I'd only go here for drinks.   Touristic trap!!! Super overpriced restaurant. The food is good but the dishes are super small for how much you are paying. Every restaurant/cafe I checked was dead (except one high end restaurant that required reservations.) In search of Lost In bar for drinks that was recommended on a travel site, I discovered this hole-in-the-wall tapas bar that was packed with locals, and I managed to get a seat. The drinks and tapas were great. It is cozy and warm, and I liked the quick service despite being so packed. The prices are not cheap but I reasonable. I am surprised it has a 3.7 rating. It deserves better. They seem to have waiters speaking every language which is also super helpful! And they were very funny and friendly too. You sit down the waiter bring you bread, aged ham, and your are like this place is great(did not order it, they just bring it your table!) After ordering some 5-6 tapas, you realize these aren’t sharing portion, these are small single portion for just one person. The food is the worst i have eaten in Portugal! Hands down! Fried, bland, and boring. Drinks are lame also! Waiter bring you the check, and there is your ham and bread you never ordered on your bill( not complementary) And the next day the GI bug set in!
