  Tried this place out with my family while walking around and was pleasantly surprised at what we received when we entered. The restaurant is cozy, so it was the perfect place for us to talk and spend time together. We tried the salmon tartar, shrimp, and pica pau and loved what we had.   We were disappointed about this place. The menu looked great but the quality of the ingredients were not fresh (especially the beef and shrimp) and the dishes were disappointing. The drinks were not good and took along time to come. Same with the food. The service focused on upselling us. The server tried to redeem herself which was appreciated but the effort fell short.   I’m not sure about the food but the waitress was just horrible and we decided to leave. Would definitely try to find someone better servicing. We went with my partner to have dinner and ordered drinks while we were having a look at the menu. We were the only ones in the restaurant. After having decided what we wanted for dinner waitress came and strongly pushed us to choose something else. As we were not too hungry I asked if the choices we made were not too good. She kept insisting about certain item on the menu and was very rude about it. She even tried to show us some random review about someone commenting about this plate. She was so pushy that it made me suss of the options we chose. She could’ve simply suggested instead of being horribly pushy and rude about it. Definitely not recommend this place. Cheers. My friend has been living in Portugal for a few years now and this was the first restaurant they recommended to me when I came to visit for the first time. We ended up going back almost every night because we couldn't stop craving their Gambas and Sangria. To this day I still dream about both of them honestly!   We chose the place based on some online recommendations but I felt like it was overrated since the first moment we step from the door. 1-just in front of the restaurant there were a lot of trash out of the bins and smelled awful.   We came here after we read the reviews! We were not disappointed at all. The service was extremely professional and kind and friendly and the food was excellent! We ate tapas and everything was so tasty. The restaurant was exactly that we looked for, local, a bit hidden and not at all overpriced food and wine. It was not only turists eating there but locals.   Extremely expensive for the quality and quantity of the food. We believe the good google ratings are staged. The tapas were terrible, the quality of the bread was mediocre and the ingredients used on top of it were average at best. The fried fish tapas were disgusting and no one can make me believe it’s “home-made”. PS: three small ones for 5€ is laughable. The shrimps and the meat dish were okay but for 11-13€ dishes the quantities were extremely small for the price it’s ridiculous. Lisbon has way better restaurants with better food and more reasonably priced! *The olives and nuts were initially offered to us as an entrée but we later found out that we were charged 4,50€ for it. **The sangria was not good, too sweet, mediocre ingredients were used and simply isn’t worth 15€. A 58€ bill for a 1 star “restaurant”. Absurd! Edit after owner’s response: I find it interesting that my friend and I both gave a well deserved 1 star review after our bad experience at Manu Resturante and the next day two 5 stars reviews appeared.   My Girlfriend & I stopped by this gem this afternoon. We are staying in the Bairro Alto neighborhood in Lisbon, and Manu was right across the street from our AirBnB. We started off with a mojito, and it was easily the most refreshing one I’ve ever had. Real local ingredients. Followed up with some bruschetta & a local meat/cheese platter featuring Pumpkin Jam.   Stumbled across this lovely wee restaurant when looking for somewhere to have tea. The owner was so kind and recommended items off the menu when I wasn’t sure what to get. She also recommended their sparkling sangria which was also amazing, so refreshing with fresh fruit. The tapas tester for 1 was great to try a few things from their menu, and the mussels were the best I’ve had in Lisbon, especially for the price. He had a steak which was also fantastic. More so, we bumped into the owners walking home a few nights later and once again they were lovely and chatted away. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, small, great food, freshly made food and drink, brilliant for the price, and lovely owners. My mate had a burger and the bun was not fresh, so didn't finish it. I had the tuna salad which was ok.
