  This is arguably one of the best places we have eaten in Lisbon and have come back a number of times on our very short trip to the city. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the great food, decor and professional staff that understand what good service is.   Came here when another breakfast place had no seats for an hour. Best choice we made. The Balthazar Brunch was amazing. So much food for such a good price. So good we came back a second day for it. Highly recommend, two pancakes and syrup, granola with delicious fresh fruit and yoghurt, and bread (choice of croissant, sourdough, or brioche) with two eggs (scrambled, fried or poached) also served with orange juice and a hot drink.   Was told they had no salmon for 2 of our 5 meals when the other three had already arrived ( we waited another 25 min for our meals while the rest of our party ate). It took 45 minutes for a bottle of prosseco and our bill came with the two meals we never got . At no point was there an apology. They explained they were 3 staff members short but they kept taking more and more tables !! Don't take more tables when you can't even serve the ones you have !!! The latte with oatmilk was served with almond milk . And the bill was an extra 3.60 for oatmilk !! How could you charge so much ??? Food is good but management is completely subpar !!   Wonderful vibe of the place and the interior design, and this is pretty much everything I liked about the place. It seems over-hyped to me in terms of food quality and service. We saw a queue during the weekend, and decided to come back on a week day. And this was our experience: We ordered a vegetarian burger, soup of the day, coffee and almond croissant. Soup was fine. Burger was unfortunately not good; guacamole in it tasted funky and the burger itself was not tasty at all. I've asked for latte with soya milk (or any plant based milk they had) - and it was the worst latte I've had in my life. Either they didn't understand what I was asking for, or this is how they make it. Weird. Almond croissant was amazing though. Service is mediocre. Almost impossible to make eye contact with the waiters. Overall, disappointed.   We’ve been put next to the door that was constantly opened with rain and cold coming to us. Nobody, not even the waiters were closing it, we had to get up about 20 times while eating not to get a congestion! The food was ok. Pancakes arrived cold, the bread was not toasted and it didn’t seem fresh.   I used to always go there have my breakfast, it was a nice spot even though the food can take ages to come, most probably it’ll be worth the wait. However, I was there once, the café was literally empty, 2 or 3 tables out of few dozens are taken and the rest is free. I take a seat and they ask me to leave saying it’s only on reservations for that day, nothing was communicated about reservation on their social media. I felt very disrespected by how the waiter spoke to me and literally asked me leave when the place was Empty!   It was delicious - can’t say that it wasn’t. We have waited for the food very long time. Had 2x eggs Benedict, 2 x pancakes and at the end 2 espressos…. Overall it took 2 hours. Very slow service and I believe sometimes we were forgotten. I have asked for a bread change with eggs Benedict for sourdough one- and somehow it wasn’t possible because”it’s a base” 😅 it’s just a piece of bread underneath eggs. The crew attitude was more like they didn’t want to work there. The most important…after we left restaurant we both started to feel stomach sick, nausea and throwing up half of the night.   I don’t know why this brunch has such good ratings, it was probably the worst brunch I’ve ever had. The only good things about this place is that’s it’s pretty and affordable but there’s so many other better places, even the one down the street is so much better. The chicken was really cold, tasted reheated, and the “bacon” was bacon bits. We waited almost an hour for our food and the waiters were rude. Don’t come here for brunch. It looked beautiful when the food arrived but it felt like they put more time into making the food look good than tasting good.   Very nice little brunch spots, a bit busy, you are recommended to make a reservation cause ut fills up quickly. Nice brunch deal, could have more syrup on the pancakes and jam for the bread basket. Its a hip place, clean and modern, so I understand the music choice but in combination with all the people talking and mixers blending it is too much noise.   I have eaten at this places multiple times and really enjoyed it! For context, I have a severe dairy allergy which causes my tongue and face to swell, develop hives and become ill. However, the last time I ate there (June 27) I ordered a latte with soy milk and vegan pancakes as vegan typically ensures no dairy for me. A few bites in, my tongue started getting itchy. I ate about half my meal, paid and left. By the time I got home I was having a full blown allergic reaction, itchy, swollen and red. I have eaten here with no issue in the past, but was shocked when this happened. I cannot imagine what was used in vegan pancakes to make this happen. Minor cross contamination would not cause such a severe reaction, only directly consuming of dairy products. When my friend spoke with them 3 days after they adamantly denied that this is was possible and so I decided to write this review. If you are vegan or have allergies, please be careful eating here.   The food is ok, but the service is really bad. The waiters seem very bored and in a bad mood. One of the waiters has forgotten most of my order.   Overall poor food quality: dry ham and bread, uncooked rice, pumpkin puree with oil. It was incredibly difficult to get any of the employees' attention when we were seated at the table, despite the restaurant not even being full. We specifically requested special attention due to one of my friend being pregnant, but they served undercooked meat. Additionally, the side dishes were cold. When we brought these issues to their attention, they insisted it was normal. They also failed to apply the promised 30% discount on the dishes, claiming it was a menu without explaining it at the table. One of the staff members even refused to provide her name. Furthermore, despite a notice displayed about the existence of the Livro de Reclamações (complaints book), they did not provide us one. It is mandatory by the Portuguese law to provide the customer with the Livro de Reclamações, otherwise we have to call the authorities. Apart from Manu, who introduced himself and was polite, friendly, and professional, the two waitresses and the employee at the entrance were neither polite nor did they apologize once for all the incidents that occurred.   I loved the vibe of this place, it is very well decorated. The brunch it self was good, but as we were in a huge group the waitress confused our orders. Also we waited around an hour or more because they wanted to bring all orders together.   Nice vegan brunch for 2, for €27. A little bit on the expensive side and left still a bit hungry. However, the food served was nice. Nothing special: plain Pancakes (we didn’t get the vegan ones because they didn’t have them anymore), toast with avocado and yoghurt with fruits. It wasn’t special, not unique, a bit pricey, but it was what we were looking for. Service not personal and a bit slow. Would I come back? No. Do I regret going? Neither. If you are in the area and looking for a brunch spot, it probably hits the spot. Next time I’d order an egg dish - those looked most promising tbh.   I don't recall giving such poor rating to anything. This was my second experience at the place. The first time it was at the beginning and I thought the long waiting time was still an adaptation period. Now there shouldn't be any excuses. The concept is nice and the menu seems promising. The decor is nice and the service should be better. There is a small army or staff at the service of the tables and they are kind of nice and agreeable. But I don't understand why it took them so long to get the group of people ahead of me to their reserved table. After that they were quick to get me into a table, in spite of not having a reservation. They got me the menu and I was told to raise my arm when I was ready to order (a bit strange and , of course it took them a while to notice my raised arm). After ordering the food, something that was already precooked , it took more than 30 minutes to serve the order. The kitchen is really the worst part of the service. It must be understaffed and of no great quality The sushi rice was poorly cooked (don't remember to eat such poorly cooked sushi rice). The tuna was ok. The vegetable were not great. The list mentions avocado but there was none and no explanation about its absence. In summary, I don't plan to return to the place. Which is a pitty because the idea and concept are actually good. Dois de nós pedimos o menu familiar e esqueceram nosso suco de laranja, pelo qual esperamos 30 minutos a mais e tivemos que esperar 45 minutos a mais pelas nossas panquecas, que tivemos que pedir várias vezes. A mesa inteira já estava comendo quando serviram isso. Eles também esqueceram um cappuccino e serviram a refeição para uma pessoa 10 minutos depois que todos os outros comeram. No geral, a comida era boa, mas o serviço era extremamente mal administrado.

  Tasteful food, lots of good options on the menu and such an amazing atmosphere make Balthazar one of the best brunch spots in Lisbon IMO. The table service has to improve though.   This would have been a 5 review as the environment is great and new, the food is stylish and tasty, but the service is best described as "disorientated". When we arrived in this great space, we asked that since we were short in time could we still get our lunch in time. In the end, it took 30 min from the moment we ordered until the moment we received our meal... and that was with prompting the staff. When our food arrived, it was actually cold! Suggesting of course that it had been prepared by the kitchen on time, but then sat there waiting to be served for quite some time. Overall, I am very disappointed in what could have been a promising experience that the food is let down by a service approach that can be best described as "not my job".   This restaurant has a nice menu, but the food is terrible. Four of us ordered different meals. All were delivered cold. Eggs benedict are disgusting when cold. And the sauce, if flavorful when warm, was unappealing as served, even with the salmon. Two of us sent ours back, refusing to eat. The other two just ate the cold serving of their meal because they were so hungry. The second time the food came was not much better. They are also inflexible when it comes to asking for any change in the exact menu, such as changing the bread that comes with the dish or scrambling eggs versus poaching them. Other than a nice server, there is nothing good I can say about this restaurant. Even the server never returned to our table to ask if we wanted dessert or anything else.   The menu was only available in Portuguese. So we needed a little longer to order. We had an avocado toast and a Caesars chicken salad. The food was quite tasty but on the menu wasn’t mentioned that there’s bacon crumble on the salad, which was kind of disappointing because my friend doesn’t eat pork.
