  Our Fado night at Baiuca was exceptional. The food, waitress, singers are all fantastic. We paid 100 Euro for 4 people. You can see our receipt. It includes the cheese, bread, olive and butter they put on the table before our departure. I think you need to ask them to take them away if you dont want it to be included in your bill.   Great place with nice food. Real fado music and a lovely atmosphere. However, they only take cash and don’t seem to tell you that beforehand. They were very lucky we had cards to pull out cash, rather than on our phones, and were honest enough to come back from the atm. I have now edited my review due to the response from the restaurant. I am utterly disgusted to learn that the waiter blatantly lied to us, claiming they only accept cash when, in reality, they also accept card payments. It is deeply troubling that the waiter failed to disclose the true reason behind this misinformation, neglecting to mention that the card machine may have been broken or was it just because they wanted cash - which I had to pay a fee to take out at an ATM. Such dishonesty not only tarnishes the dining experience but also raises serious concerns about the integrity of the establishment. If you are in Alfama or Lisbon please make a reservation and go !!   Great food, great music, fantastic experience! We received a recommendation to this spot from a family member who'd been in previously, and are SO glad we stopped in. With Fado played on the hour every hour (starting after 8, I believe), this spot offered a great meal and a great experience. The restaurant is small- so the reccomendation is to book a table in advance or come later in the evening on a weekday. Bookings can be made via instagram/Facebook if you're unable to call in. Truly can't reccomend this spot enough. Located in a small restaurant with just a few seats, you'll have an up close and personal show of Portuguese fado if seated indoors. You can tell the owner and performers love what they do, and have a fantastic sense of comeraderie. This is a great spot for those looking for a classic fado experience. The food is also pretty great- my husband and I shared the sardines and the house red wine, both of which were very good! 15/10 experience.   We are so glad we ended up here. Most Fado places use prix fixe menus and we were not looking for that much food per person. That's the reason we decided to come to A Baiuca and we are so delighted we did. Note that they seat people in between sets and they don't have many tables. So, if the place looks full, you may have to wait. 100% the Fado! Omg! I had the honor of hearing three singers do 2 songs each (one prior to our meal seating and 2 during our meal). They were each spectacular and emotive in their own way. The ambience is very intimate. It feels like you are in somebody's home (I'm sure it was one once) and the service is warm. They love green and so do I! The lighting is warm and not too harsh. The tables and stools give it a casual feel, but it's the last thing on your mind between the food and the music. The food! Gahh! We had the octopus, rice, shrimp, chorizo and some charcuterie items plus the house wine. The octopus I would order every time. It was so tender, flavorful and the thinner parts were perfectly crispy. The potatoes were the perfect complement. The cheese and bread were excellent and the house wine was quite good. Everyone in our party was so happy with the meal. We have only had a few meals in Portugal thus far and this was the best so far. 10/10 would do it again. Eles amam o verde e eu também! A iluminação é quente e não muito forte. As mesas e bancos dão um toque casual, mas é a última coisa que você pensa entre a comida e a música. A comida! Ahhh! Comemos polvo, arroz, camarão, chouriço e alguns itens de charcutaria, além do vinho da casa. O polvo que eu sempre pedia. Estava tão macio, saboroso e as partes mais finas estavam perfeitamente crocantes. As batatas foram o complemento perfeito. O queijo e o pão eram excelentes e o vinho da casa era muito bom. Todos na nossa festa ficaram muito felizes com a refeição. Até agora só fizemos algumas refeições em Portugal e esta foi a melhor até agora. 10/10 faria isso de novo.

  I ordered the vegetarian pasta for 16 euros. U will get plain pasta with canned mushrooms canned Mais and overcooked grey broccoli. There also was no Parmesan to make that tasteless disaster better. I know I’m in a touristy area where I have to pay more for Ambiente etc but this is just a place that wants to make money this was definitely not a fair price for the received food … 20m away u will get handmade fresh pasta with fresh veggies and sauces for around 12/13 euros with the same Ambiente. I think if u have only one vegetarian hot dish on the menu u should put the same effort and love in that than u do with ur meat and fish dishes. Eu sei que estou numa zona turística onde tenho que pagar mais pelo Ambiente etc mas este é apenas um local que quer ganhar dinheiro este definitivamente não foi um preço justo pela comida recebida… A 20m de distância você vai conseguir massa fresca artesanal com legumes frescos e molhos por cerca de 12/13 euros com o mesmo Ambiente. Eu acho que se você tem apenas um prato quente vegetariano no menu, você deve colocar o mesmo esforço e amor nisso do que com seus pratos de carne e peixe. No final recebi uma dedução de 6 euros porque devolvi o prato e reclamei.

  Myself and my boyfriend had a wonderful evening here. The food is nothing to write home about but the fado experience was like no other. In such a small and quaint restaurant the ambiance was stellar. We had several different singers throughout the night. The music was magical. We were so close to the musicians we got to speak to one of them about his Portuguese guitar which was very interesting. He was very nice and welcoming! Make sure you book this restaurant well in advance though! We didn’t manage to book a spot but they advised us to show up first thing before opening in case that some people who booked would not show up and luckily for us we managed to get a spot.   As a portuguese citizen and as a Lisbon local, I can say that A Baiuca was a huge disappointment regarding the food which was too expensive for the lack of flavor and the short quantity served for 2 people. We paid 46 euros for: 1. Butter and bread 2. Wine of the house 3. Double dish: Alentejo Pork with clams Too expensive for a "tasca". This is a place for tourists to be ripped off. - Bad points: The quantity served is way less than it should be for a typical portuguese food restaurant. A friend of mine and I choose Carne de Porco à Alentejana (Alentejo Pork meat with clams) which is one of the most popular portuguese dishes. The real flavor was missing and there was a lot of cube fries and almost no pork meat cubes. I felt like we were being ripped off, because paying 2 x 15 € for that supposed double dish that actually looked like a single diss. I ate a dish like that in Évora in Alentejo and a single dish there looked like this A Baiuca's double dish for two people. - Good points: The environment was nice because the restaurant is located in a quite touristic and crowded street. The service was nice, I can say the staff was kind and funny. I got lucky because I was solo that I got to sit with two other ladies who didn’t want me to miss out on dinner there. The reservations filled 6/7 tables that were there as soon as they opened.   We made a reservation here for New Year's Eve. When we arrived, they knew nothing about it. They did however seat us at a table we were meant to share with 2 other people for whom it was reserved. The seating was so tight that it was impossible to sit on one side of the table. We asked to sit on the same side and were rudely dismissed. We asked to see a menu, same thing. We were brought appetizers we didn't order and told there is a fixed menu for the night with a charge of 65 euros per person. The waiters were talking rudely about us to each other and giving us annoyed looks. We left after 5 mins without eating or paying anything. They seemed pleased with our decision and so were we.   We really enjoyed the dinner and the music was incredible. I don’t have a lot of experience with this sort of setting, but after reading some of reviews from apparently unadaptable people, we were actually excited to check out a show where they shush people that are talking (I only wish they were even more strict and had stopped people from holding up their lame phones to capture low quality terrible angle shaky hand videos that they will never watch but will certainly ruin my view). Prices are higher than what you pay for a good meal around town, but we really wanted to experience a smaller tavern type feel w the music, and that’s what this is.   We were recommended A Baiuca from our tour guide as we were walking by so we immediately made reservations. This is a place you HAVE TO make reservations. They say they allow for walk in's but only if space allows - and it's not a large location. Since this area is about 5-10 minute walk from the main avenue (Av. Infante Dom Henrique) located in Alfama up an alley/ street. When you arrive they will bring out bread/ olives for the table. They are not free! And water, even tap, is not free and can be pricey on your final bill. The staff don't speak English at all, and won't try either. This posed a bit of a problem when we tried to order a glass of wine, instead the waitress brought us the bottle. We tried to tell her as she was opening it and it was basically no backsy's. I ordered the chicken with salad it was pretty good, and the wine was amazing no matter the hiccup. The fado show was the best part of the entire experience. They will shush you if you speak during the show, so be mindful. Overall, it was a great experience and I would go back.   Extremely disappointment with food and service. We were with a family of 6 (different dishes). The soup was practically a bowl of oil with an egg and pieces of bread floating around. Pork, in pieces and hard, tasted poorly. We also had a pot with fish for two, again full of bouillon and oil, tasted awful. The poor food was not compensated by friendly staff.   Disappointing experience here. Staff are extremely arrogant many times during our wait for an hour to get even the ordered starters. Prices are almost double compared to other similar restaurants and if you sit outside you don’t get any live music which happens indoors. They serve you overpriced bread, cheese and olives without asking for it. We waited for an hour and the starters weren’t even served. Paid €20 for the bread cheese and olives and left.   Highly recommend A Baiuca if you're looking for a live fado and food in a cosy environment! We were so impressed by the talents and their different styles of singing. The service was friendly and excellent; they made sure we are satisfied and happy with what we got. The food was good but the price is on the high side - though we are in the middle of Alfama and with such amazing entertainment (there were 5 fado singers alternating with a duet!) so it's understandable.   Small, cosy restaurant with great Fado performances. There were a total of 7-8 artists who took turns to play the guitar and sing! The music was melancholic. The food was great too (surprisingly!). We called for bread and butter, cod cakes and the soup of the day (Alentejo soup). The soup was the clear winner! For mains we ordered the Grilled Salmon and Sardines. It was filling with large portion sizes and flavourful. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. For a table inside, make a reservation in advance else come in by 7:30 before the performance starts. It gets very busy post 8:30 with people listening from the square. Service can be a bit slow during this period (as some of the artists double up as waiters too!). Enjoyable evening!   We discovered this place by the happiest accident. We had the most delicious sangria and tasty cod pastries, followed by an octopus de lagareiro, which was really good (I live by the sea and have tasted many octopus in my life, so I can say this one was very good).   They didn't respect social distancing at all, we were sitting way to close to two other tables and the fado singers were constantly coming close as well. They didn't have anything vegetarian but a soup and a salad, I got the soup and it was absolutely disgusting, I couldn't eat it. My partner got the steak and it was terrible as well. I asked for a salad and they brought me two leaves, two tomatoes (which tasted horrible) and a mountain of onions. They even cheated on the bill, adding a euro here and a euro there to various plates. The fado singers were good but it honestly wasn't worth it AT ALL.   The music was very good and I really enjoyed the experience. I am happy to pay their $25E minimum but how I ended up paying $37 without even ordering a main dinner is beyond me. Apparently they charge $13E for the bread, cheese and olives they deliver to the table the second you sit down - without mentioning as much. A bit of a scam if you ask me. Just be transparent!! Again, happy to pay for what I order and a minimum for “dinner and a show” but don’t trick me into paying more. That’s deceitful.   I had a wonderful time here when I was in Lisbon. The food was excellent and so was the Fado. The musicians who perform here are really quite talented! I do recommend either making a reservation or showing up early because the place fills up and most people make reservations. It was just me and I went early so it was easy for me to get a spot, but a larger party would definitely need a reservation. If you go later in the evening they will let you in for drinks and to hear the music after many of the diners have left for the evening. I stayed the whole night and thought the 25 euro minimum was well worth it. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Lisbon!   I don't know If I will recommend this place. The Fado was really good (high performance)...but the food was poor! The price was a bit expensive but acceptable because there was the fado performance included. He should ask when taking reservations if there are any children along. This was very disappointing.   Why 4 stars? Really! It is a tourist trap. Meals are awfully expensive (most dishes over 20 euros, water 5 euros etc). I know the musicians need to be paid and all, but that is a steal. One can eat better for half this price. Oddly, waiter kept replying in English although I only made questions in Portuguese (native speaker here). He could clearly understand me as replies were in line with my question (what the heck???). Several Fado restaurants suffer from the same thing: overpriced but serving simple food. To me it seems almost like a scam. Simply don't! (Traduzido pelo Google) Por que 4 estrelas? Realmente! É uma armadilha para turistas. Ele poderia me entender claramente, pois as respostas estavam de acordo com a minha pergunta (que diabos???). Vários restaurantes de fado sofrem da mesma coisa: são caros mas servem comida simples. Para mim parece quase uma farsa. Simplesmente não faça isso!

  The evening for us was spoilt by one of the guitarist who was constantly telling people to shut up and being ridiculously rude about it. It felt like he is sacrificing his great gift to play for us- poor uncultured tourists. Everybody in our group was pretty quiet but he still managed to push me with his elbow. Other than that most fado singers were good and the food was ok if a bit expensive.   Incredibile experience at this fado restaurant. It feels The food is very good, with a home made taste. You are treated as a welcomed guest. It feels like you're at friends place, having dinner in their kitchen. The music and singing was so touching. The singers are amateurs. Some of them will blow you away because you don't expect them to be so good. The whole staff, from the lady who serves the table to the cook will take their turn in the singing and they all manage to touch your soul, even if you don't understand a single word of Portuguese. The guitar players were professionals and very talented. It might be a little bit more expensive than what many people would expect but we left very happy. Você é tratado como um convidado bem-vindo. Parece que você está na casa de amigos, jantando na cozinha deles. A música e o canto eram tão tocantes. Os cantores são amadores.   Be aware that you cant get a special table for you and your partner, you'll get a place close to other clients. Musics and songs are typical and very nice, as well as the food. Octopus baiuca was great. The price is also expensive for the city, at least €70 for 2. We were, us + the other clients very surprised by the boss attitude. He was really angry during the whole evening to not say *issed off...we asked 4 times the check. Despite that fact, the other staff was nice.   It made our experience in Lisbon so much greater. Amazing food, really fresh and with the home made taste. The environment is just amazing. It feels like a party at your best friend's kitchen. This is true and authentic Portuguese hospitality. The Fado music inside is just amazing, the owner and his staff are professional singers.   This place is charming and authentic. Great food and great Fado. Towards the end of the second set all the staff were singing (very well!) including the cooks!   Outragious prices, i was offered ( on the street ) normal price diner 18 euro. Inside Drinks , aqua 5 euro, drink for kids 5 euro.. Without asking they served bread and 3 flavoured small tinned pate.. And charged 14 euro.. I left leaving 10 euro instead 14, ordered no drinks.. Bad behaviour, place looks nice.   An experience! Fado singers are in focus. Expect to arrive 20:00, order, receive food 21:30. In the meantime, the music has started, and an interesting variety of singers perform four numbers in total. The music consists of two parts - each singer sings two fados in each. There's about half an hour of break between the two sets. All in all, you don't converse much, as guests are expected to stay silent when the music's on. Singing was over ca. 23:30 where people promptly started drinking. Minimum order per person is 25 euro. Taking into account that other fado bars and the likes will charge you 10 euro for the singing alone, the prices were fairly standard. 111 euro for four persons - we all enjoyed our food.   This is a very special place. An authentic experience. You must understand that they put together an atmosphere that reminds a tradicion. You dont pay for the music. That is why the price of the food is so expensive for portuguese prices, but people who gave bad reviews here forgot to mention that you can easyly pay 80€ per person in a fado restaurant. And YES, you need to shut up when they sing, NOT BECAUSE it is a fado tradition, because it should be the behavior expected from civilized people. What surprises me is why people go to listen to music and want to talk at the same time? Para los espanholes que han dejado comentarios: la comida es la tipica casera portuguesa, claro que si cobra mas que lo normal, porque la comida incluye la musica, nada es gratis. Y si: mientras uno esta a cantar los demas tienen que hacer silencio, y esto mi parece solamente lo mas civilizado. A very special place, with special people.   Food was ok, and slightly expensive. Although the live Fado was great and making up for the whole experience. It seems a really authentic and felt performance.
