  Fabulous seafood. Garlic prawn and the clam starters, very nice. Octopus, their signature dish, just wonderful, and very creatively served. Cod fish a little unusual in texture and taste, but fine.   We arrived with our two toddlers and no reservation on 3/27 for dinner. They accommodated us and provided great service on a busy night. The octopus and local fish were amazing, but the sardines were so good that our kids almost finished the plate on their own. Wonderful dinner with quick service. Thank you for making our night!   This place, the food, the staff, the atmosphere, everything about this place is just fantastic! We had sea bream, octopus & shrimps, fish soup and a dessert with passion fruit and it all was superb 👌🏼 Ms Irina is a fabulous hostess and the whole team is just great, going out of their way to make your dinner a pleasant experience.   Excellent seafood restaurant in Lisbon, easily in the Top 3 best Seafood restaurants in Lisbon. Quite small but very cozy. My partner had the best octopus ever, my God it was tender and full of flavor. I had a whole crab which was super delicious. If you love seafood I highly recommend a visit.   Incredible experience here at Solar 31! We had some of the best seafood we've ever eaten here, and the service was phenomenal. Kennedy recommended we try their Scabbardfish and Emperor Fish dishes and they were both delicious. Seafood was extremely fresh and there was a great ambience to the place.   We arrived and didn’t have a booking but the brilliant team found us a table for 90 minutes and it was so worth it!! The food is excellent… highly recommend the octopus (cooked to perfection), the sea bass and the coffee/ biscuit cake that is to die for!! The service was absolutely delightful, so friendly and engaging and didn’t rush us for a minute despite the large party that arrived for our table.   I would highly recommend to make reservation since this resteraunt is small. I’ve seen people has to wait for a long time. Seafood is fresh and taste good. Friendly staffs, I would recommend to try this place.   Wow, made a reservation here for lunch from some local write ups and so glad we did. It looks like a hole in the wall but the food and staff are outstanding. This is our first time and first day in Lisbon and it is a fantastic start. Knowing little about Portuguese cuisine we put ourselves in the hands of our fantastic waitress’ who did us well. Started with 6 is oysters and the were outstanding and so different from gulf, and easy and west coast North American oysters, very rich oyster flavor. Then had the Breem which our waitress deboned at the table. Another great dish. Asked them to recommend a wine to go with it and had our first ever “green” Portuguese wine, it was a fantastic pairing. For dessert our waitress recommended trying their Fidalgo, a local specialty egg custard and wow, it was fantastic. This was our first day in Lisbon and first time here and we got hugs when we left like we were family.   I definitely recommend this place. It was my best octopus experience in Portugal so far. Good job, you guys! The octopus was fresh, tender, moderately salted and everything I expected and more, because along with potatoes there were also shrimp. Very nice dish. It’s more expensive than some other places, but for me it was totally worth it. PS: don’t bother to ask the waiters about Bacalao or any other salted fish, they only serve fresh sea food. It was probably what initially got us on the wrong foot with our waitress, but as we continued on with a nice and polite attitude, she softened back to us and even treated us to their delicious green wine - perfect addition to the divine octopus. Highly recommend the octopus; and fish was freshly made (sold and cooked by the whole fish).   The food was great, tasty, full flavors. Wine list limited but ok. Service could be improved. Our reservation was for 8pm, it was closer to 9pm before we got our table and 9:20pm before we could order. At the end of our dinner the restaurant was half empty. So they could just phase out the reservations and don't take so many for the peak tourist hours. If we come back we'll reserve directly for 9:30pm!   We had a reservation and were finally seated after waiting and being stared at for a good 5 minutes We sat down along with a table next to us with four people. We had a menu, wine glasses, and water glasses. We waited for 25 minutes for a waiter to come over - no one ever checked on us! In the meantime the table of four had sampled different wine, had their glasses filled with wine and water and were shown a fish that they had ordered and were having prepared.   The food was great at Solar31! We had starters, various fish and wine and everything was great. The fish was fresh and they were very helpful with picking what we like. But additionally the service were great. Our group was very annoying as we kept shifting reservation time and group size, but everyone was super accommodating and super friendly! Highly recommended!   This was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. The octopus is a must have (every table ordered it) as well as the garlic prawns. The desserts are incredible. Highly recommend the Portuguese cream dish (sorry I can't remember the name)...they put cinnamon on top and flambée it table side. It was really fun. But what really made this dinner special was the extremely friendly staff. Everyone was so happy and playful yet still very professional. We were in the middle of a full restaurant but it felt like we were being taken care of in a private home. Thank you so much for the lovely experience!   High quality seafood restaurant. The lady who served us was lovely and took her time to explain everything to us. Both lobster and sea bass was excellent. Here's a breakdown of our meal and the overall impression: We ordered a variety of dishes - clams, mussels, octopus, and a whole grilled seabass. The seabass stood out with its excellent preparation and flavor. However, the other dishes were just alright. The service initially delivered the first three dishes (clams, mussels, and octopus) to our table in a mere five minutes, creating a rushed start to our meal. We had to request a slower pace, which improved things, but waiting an entire hour for the seabass was excessive. It would have been ideal to strike a balance. An online-only menu via QR code, compounded by unreliable Wi-Fi, posed a challenge. Our seating arrangement near the noisy refrigeration unit and next to a loud table diminished the overall experience.   Tourists go crazy about this place because they don't know better but, as a Portuguese, I didn't find this restaurant any special when compared with other seafood restaurants out there that are much better and where the seafood is fresher. The clams were very small and had a weird taste. The crab was not fresh or it was cooked previously, not in the moment. The desert was good though. Not up to expectations. The quality and flavour of the food doesn't match the price, it is expensive. There are much better seafood restaurants out there for the same price range.   I expected a lot more from this restaurant given the reviews but I think my level of expectation is much higher given the very good restaurants I have eaten at in Lisbon recently. Already, when you arrive you have nothing offered, you have to wait for your food to arrive (and it takes a lot of time), so you wait in front of an empty plate... how sad! A small piece of bread and olives is not much and it can make the difference. We had ordered sardines, they brought a salad which was very bland and not seasoned. There was no olive oil or vinegar available on our table. The sardines and the sea bream were not bad but it was not exceptional either. I think the prices are too high for what is served. I left the restaurant, I was still hungry.   Very nice welcome, our reservation had to be postponed for half an hour, which was no problem at all.   I spent 7 days in Lisbon and visited several tapas and fish restaurants around the city. I had 2 meals at Solar 31 da Calçada (on first and last nights) and wish I’d had more.. they were the best meals by far. The quality and freshness of the fish was outstanding, the service extremely friendly (even the fish were smiling) and you can’t go wrong with the house wine.   We came to Cervejaria Ramiro first after everyone every blogs recommended us to go there for seafood. We didn’t have good dining experience there, too rush and crowded and the foods was just on average. We came to Solar 31 for our Thanksgiving dinner and oh my gosh this place blow our minds, from the greeting staff try to sit us down on a busy night to ordering foods, every single staff is extremely friendly and nice. We actually enjoyed our dinner in peace and not feeling rush. The tiger shrimp was delish and juicy. The octopus and shrimps were also delicious. The crab was very tasty and yummy.   Amazing. We looked at all the top rated seafood restaurants in Lisbon for my Partners birthday, and we didn't realise we had this hidden gem right beside our apartment!! We had the garlic shrimp with bread for starters to share and the lobster for main course... Fresh and Delicious!! Not to mention Jaoa, who was helpful, friendly and very attentive.   The food was excellent, honestly the best seafood I've had in a long time. It was a bit pricey but it's worth every cents I think. The staff was friendly, the food was served quickly and the atmosphere was great. There aren't too many tables inside, it felt like it's just the right size. I recommend the sangria too. The digital menu on the tablet was a bit weird though, almost no info on the food and pricing was not clear.   Honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had in Lisbon! We found this place because of the ratings and even though, it looks like a small hole in the wall place, it exceeded our expectations. First off, the head chef came by our table after we sat down and went through the menu in detail, explaining the different kinds of fish they have, including the ones with acquaculture. This was great because it felt very comforting and welcoming. Then we finally got the wild sea bass and wild sea bream. It was simply delicious! Would definitely getting the same if you’re a medium sized group. The servers were friendly, funny and warm. And even the house wine was quite good. Overall, highly recommend! Edit - downgraded one star as the team pushed us hard for a tip at the end, something that never happened anywhere else in Lisbon (and given Lisbon has a minimum wage - tipping is polite rather than about ensuring someone has enough to eat). I always like to tip when I eat out across Europe, but only when the service is good and not when I'm pressured into doing it.   We wanted to try Solar 31 in Alfama but it was closed so we walked 1.5 km to this one. Welcoming personnel, a little bit to warm inside despite it was january. Not too many to choose from menu but we ordered Dourada for 2 persons. Food was delicious. Recommend this place even if it s a little bit pricey.   We had a lovely first night in Lisbon, thanks to Solar 31. We didn't make a reservation, but they were very flexible to schedule a table for us in half an hour. We went to the rooftop bar nearby to have a drink during the waiting time. It was quite nice to be able to do both in my opinion. The staff was super friendly and knew the menu ins and outs. The food was delicious and well presented. I love their traditional clam dish and the "ugly" fish choice, only found in Portugal. He went to each table to make sure we're happy and satisfied. He also took the time to explain the seafood, hidden gems in Portugal and even traveling tips around the world.   Perhaps the bet kept secret of Lisbon - in an unassiming side alley lies this fantastic sea food restaurant (with excellent steak options). Incredible food, the chef is very nice and easy to talk to, the sea food is very fresh and the staff is nice, friendly and very helpful. It's a little tight inside but it adds to the atmosphere and maybe you can squeeze in to that last table to share this experience.   A hidden away restaurant that would be easy to miss but very much worth a visit. We had the monkfish rice which is like a monkfish and shrimp risotto. Very flavourful and very filling. We also had the grilled european seabass (also known as bar or branzino). Also very good served with greens. Fish was a bit salty but other wise had great flavor and texture.   If you are a local you will be annoyed with the service cause there sre plenty of avoidable mistakes. Plates being served out of order, forgetting drinks, etc... If you take that apart, the food actually is quite delicious and fresh, overpriced for Portugal but definitely delicious. I recommend the fresh tiger shrimp and the robalo fish.   Not as good as I hope it would be even though there are lots of good reviews. The menu is not very informative even if it was displayed on iPad/tablet and the dishes are very dull. It is kind of disappointing to see the lobster and the octopus served with just a few potatoes/carrots. Putting a few flowers on the dish doesn’t make it more presentable. I took a few bites of the food and felt that the flavor is just not satisfying. PS: The front area of the restaurant also has a strong fishy smell which wasn’t very pleasant.   We arrived around 6pm on a Tuesday and we got a table of 2 without a reservation (but not a very nice spot). It definitely had no free tables left by 7pm and most people take their time with seafood so waiting for a table should not be a good idea. This is a more high-end place compared to your neighborhood Portuguese restaurant. There are many expensive items on their menu but affordable options exist. The fish soup gave me a taste of home.   My girlfriend and I have had a perfect lunch in this restaurant today. We chose this place based on the review we've found on Google, but even those expectations were at the end exceeded. Main chief and the owner of the restaurant is a very pleasant and a friendly person. He helped us with our choice by explaining a couple of dishes we've asked about. At the end we chose for the octopus (restaurant's specialty) and monkfish with rice. Both dishes were simply amazing. You could just close your eyes and enjoy the harmony of tastes.   This place is not easy to find or well signed, be sure you have good directions. There are two separate dining rooms, go for the larger back room. Staff is friendly and attentive.   I don’t know how I managed to stumble across this place it was a total accident. Holy man. I love coming to Portugal for the fish but this was a totally other experience. For start, I couldn’t decide between two dishes and they reccomended the octopus which I love and it was honestly unlike any grilled or boiled I’ve ever had... it was the absolute softest melt in your mouth octopus.. I had no idea octopus could do that. Service was amazing, this place - it blew me out of the water. As I said: Seafood is always super nice in Portugal but this was one of those few meals I’ll never forget. Was 23€ for octopus, prawns and bottle of water and a dessert, the value is insane for the quality you get. For people commenting on price- it is slightly on the “higher” end for Portugal- you can for sure get very nice meals for much cheaper - but my god this place will not disappoint.   We did not have reservation and was lucky to get a table for 2 at 7:45pm . They were full by 8:30pm. Ordered from the photos in the review , the steak and the octopus. Had initially requested to change the potatoes that come with the Octopus to vegetables but thought best to leave it as the chef created it. It was a whole Octopus and very tasty and tender! Soraia our server was very intuitive. She brought us a serving of vegetables with compliments ... such a nice touch. We had the Portuguese white wine and red house wine and both were very good. Era um polvo inteiro e muito saboroso e macio! Soraia nosso servidor foi muito intuitivo. Ela nos trouxe uma porção de legumes com elogios. Tivemos o vinho branco português e o vinho tinto da casa e ambos eram muito bons. Vimos a sobremesa servida na mesa ao lado, mas estávamos cheios demais para comer alguma. Estará de volta para os outros itens do menu e o excelente serviço!

  Amazing seafood restaurant in town. Fresh seafood, was alive when I ordered, with great selection, including uncommon one like the black sword fish (you can see the before “ugly” black one and the after nicely presented on the plate in my pics here).   This is the most delicious seafood I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Not only was the food absolutely incredible, but the service was outstanding. The chef and owner came to our table before, during, and after every single dish. He made it clear that if there was anything at all we did not enjoy he would take it back free of charge and make us something else. We didn’t need to take him up on that offer because the food was truly mind-blowing. We ordered the oysters, sardines, octopus / shrimp, and the blackened swordfish. After the swordfish, the owner told us that it was a very ugly fish, but made up for its bad looks with its taste. He then proceeded to grab a full raw swordfish and bring it to our table for us to inspect - it was indeed quite ugly, but dear lord it tasted incredible. Ele então pegou um peixe-espada cru e trouxe-o para a nossa mesa para inspecionarmos - era realmente muito feio, mas querido senhor, tinha um sabor incrível. Não posso exagerar o quão incrível é este lugar.

  Great place. Area is not too interesting but dishes are amazing. Waiters are kind and profesional. I ate there the best octopus with shrimps in my life.   I never had a big octopus before nor do i usually go for seafood. We had oysters, octopus and swordfish. I was scared to eat but they are delicious. Friendly staff. Not too expensive. Very busy. I think its the main chef.. he likes to come out to chat to all the customers. He's very nice and friendly.   Wow, the food is great, the staff is great, and the owner/chef is amazing and personally oversees everything, including every table. My wife and I had dinner here and it was so good we had to go back the next night. Now that I am writing this review, I want to fly to Lisboa right now and eat here again. Update: it took almost six years but we did make it back there and, again, it was still so good that we had to make another reservation after the first one.
