This experience was absolutely fabulous! The restaurant is part of the Jose Avillez restaurants and is hidden behind a bookcase like a speakeasy. The menu promises that nothing is as it seems and that is true! We started with green “exploding” olives. They were like nothing else I’ve ever tasted. We also had the tuna tartar cone, sashimi, pastor tostadas, fish with rice, French fries and chocolate covered passion fruit for dessert. Every taste was better than the last! If you haven't actually been to a nice restaurant you might think this place is one. The food and wine tasting is very boring and bland. The AC kept cycling on and off, hot and cold. Rare that I give five stars for food, service, and atmosphere. But Minibar is deserving of all of the above. It really starts with the staff. Super accommodating and knowledgeable of the menu. They gave some great personal recommendations. The vibe is one of a kind. You can't generate that, it has to come naturally. I didn't have a chance to see any performance on this night, but I can imagine that would only add to an already fantastic ambiance. Lastly, the food is really solid. Go for the margarita, it's very inventive. The Truffled Egg Yolk dip with the bread was insane! Tuna Belly with Caviar is worth every morsel. Others like the steak, while good, were alright but nothing unique of course. And you must leave room for the passion fruit globe which looks like, wait for it, a passion fruit! We went for Valentines day. It was a set menu at 125 Euro's per person. The tables ate very cramped in and the waiters have little space to move. I was bumped a few times. The service was very slow when we started. Wated very long for welcome drinks. And then later they were rushing the courses. The entire menu was very rich with not many fresh elements. I loved everything about this place! It’s like a speakeasy but more classy and elegant. Theatre and bar feels at the same time. Everything on the menu was superb. I personally liked the tuna tartare temaki cone and the meagre and flower ceviche. Food was presented artistically and I loved the attention to details. Mini bar is an Instagram paradise….but we simply did not enjoy the food or high price of non-satisfactory and sometimes inedible courses. We really wanted to like it, but the flavors and textures clash course after course! We had the €75 tasting menu. Enjoyed the bread, smoked butter, truffle egg yolk (why are truffles in EVERYTHING?!), shrimp “tostadas”, ahi tuna cone, and steak. Certain things were straight up nauseating and served together as one palate clashing course: a sour and salty “green apple”, “olive”, and fois gras pearl. First palate puckers, then oily, then greasy and rich. Dessert was a red beet sorbet lipstick and a chocolate truffle, literally with black truffle again. The service was fine. The old fashioned was fine. We would not return. I don’t mind paying for good food and this was sadly not mostly good enough in our opinion. I was so hopeful about MiniBar but it did not meet my expectations. Let me start by saying the food was delicious and aside from that the rest of the experience was mediocre. This is a very confused restaurant. It seems the concept and execution are both flawed. The service is highly erratic, with waiters running around everywhere and frequently forgetting things. During our experience this past week the waiter hardly had any time to answer questions or chat with us, constantly in a hurry to take an order and run. This in my opinion is no fault of the waitstaff, rather points to a management & training problem. Regarding the food, it's trying way too hard. Many of the portions are comically small, which might work ok in a prix fixe or tasting menu, but fails miserably for the a la carte section. Once our meal was completed no dessert menu was presented and we were asked to move to the bar so they could seat others. They also failed to honor a special birthday request that had been agreed to prior to dinner, all they could do was apologize for forgetting. The space is nice (although layout is very poor) & cocktails were well made. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. From the moment I walked through the “secret” door I could tell I was going to like this place. The tasting menu was just right - lots of small bites to get a wonderful selection of unique flavors and textures. The fish and meat courses were satisfying and just the right portion for my taste. If you prefer to create your own tasting menu, there is an al la carte option. Solo diners: Service was attentive and relatively quick compared to other tasting menu experiences I’ve had. As a solo diner, I’m there to taste the food, not engage in leisurely conversation between plates; so the servers kept the food coming at a good pace. This is informal dining at an exquisite level of detail. I decided that I would focus on the small plates and I wasn't disappointed with everything I ordered. Even the bread came with a long stemmed rose with an edible petal, and you had tweezers to extract the petal once you've found it. The El bulli olives are a classic and is almost like the original. Just skip this spot and spend your money at some of the other awesome spots in Lisboa. You can, and should, do so much better. Don’t get me wrong, cool and hip place, but the quality sadly just falls completely flat. Our first dishes started out really good (but quite overpriced) But when we got the main course the first piece of the meat was good but rest of the piece was severely undercooked (it was raw and cold) but the worst part of the experience was that the servers was quite aware of the situation but decided to do the classical “ignore and forget” our table by not refilling drinks and do detours instead of trying to make good on their mistakes. When they finally came to our table they just removed the plate with the reminding food without any thoughts on how to follow up. For the premium price this place charges you deserve so much more professionalism and level of service. When we finally got our bill (we skipped dessert) they had included a service/tip charge already that we had to specify that we really didn’t think was appropriate given lack of attention and quality. From front of the house staff were disorganized and not working together resulting in us having 3-4 different servers throughout our meal. The food was very disappointing and was the worst food we had during our time in Lisbon. The tuna cone was delicious but nothing I'd go out of my way to order again. The shrimp ceviche was mostly flowers with some shrimps that tasked musky and inedible. One bite and I put the fork down, only to have this dish sit on the table for the rest of our meal even after new courses were served. The other dishes, including dessert, were not harmonious with many elements on the plate serving zero purpose and providing no value to the dish. The chocolate cone is nothing but chocolate whipped cream with a fist full of salt on top. Overall while the space is beautiful Minibar does not live up to its reputation for a meal at its price point. So many better options elsewhere in this beautiful city. Unfortunately my expectation was higher than that after reading all these reviews. I visited different Michelin star restaurants in the world and I decided to visit this restaurant because it's chef was awarded 2 star for his another restaurant (Belcanto). We tried tasting menu. Presentation of dishes was exceptional. But I must say we didn't like the taste of the food too much. Some were very salty, some were very sharp in taste. But cocktails were really good. Started out as a fun experience with interesting tastings. After being ignored by our wait person for literally 30 minutes, we cut it short and left. We'd gone through four "acts" and were ready to order two or three more but our server instead chose to turn a 160 euro meal into a 98 euro meal for no reason we can think of. Service turned from attentive and helpful to non-existent and then it was as if all of a sudden we'd turned invisible - e.g. server would walk right past us, we would speak up and gesture, make eye contact, and she would ignore us. After about 30 minutes of this we cut it short and left. Plenty of restaurants in Lisbon are willing to accept our euros in exchange for some food and decent service. Would not go back. Fun while it lasted, food wasn't all that great anyway, but fun experience - disappointing overall. Take your chances and good luck. I've had better service from cell phone companies. BE VERY CAREFUL. I wasn’t particularly looking forward to my visit. I don’t normally like dark environments with small tables offering bite sized food, but I was pleasantly surprised. The place is lovely, the food is “fun” and the service excellent. Do why the 1 star. I want to bring something to your attention which quite honestly is close to being criminal. •Well in advance we booked a table for 20.00hrs using the online booking system. •We then decided 20.00 was a bit earlier and so we amended the booking to 20.30. Till now all good. We were sent confirmation of all activity, that is, 1st booking with reference number, and then the amended booking which had the same booking reference but with the new time. The meal/experience was great and we left content. I decided to pay cash. Yesterday I looked at my bank statement and noticed I’d been charged €100 by the Mini Bar due to a “no show”. Their computer/records showed that I had a booking at 20.00hrs and never showed up. I phoned and explained the situation and the restaurant offered to refund me the €100. They didn’t ask me for the reference number. All they asked me was, “did you come?” I said yes, and that was it🤷🏻‍♂️ I feel the incident was taken a bit too lightly. Food was all excellent, particularly the tuna sushi, beef and the desserts - the weird and wonderful textures and food disguises is possibly not necessary but is quite fun. I was very excited to dine here, and it exceeded my hopes and expectations in every way. I have dietary restrictions, and I was made to feel not only accommodated but included are cared for by the wait staff. Everyone we interacted with (which during our multi course meal was many people!) was lovely, personable, and added to this wonderful experience. I truly cannot emphasize how fantastic the service was enough to do it justice. The food and the dining experience was fantastic and completely enjoyable. My friend and I were so excited to dine here - everyone who has visited Lisbon has recommended this restaurant for us. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great and the experience was awesome but both my friend and I woke up with severe food poisoning after dining here at 8pm on 9/24. Posting pictures of everything we ate here for reference. I reached out to the restaurant to flag getting very ill just hours after dining here and I have yet to get a response. If you or anyone you know also got sick from eating here in this day or shortly after, I apologize and hope you also didn’t get as sick as we did. Went here for my birthday, and we had a 10:30 reservation but didn’t get seated until an hour and a half afterwards around midnight. They gave us a round of free drinks and small snacks but they ended up charging us for them (we had them taken off the bill though). This place charges 50 euros p.p. if you don’t show up for your reservation but apparently they are too exclusive to pick up the phone or email back. I wanted confirmation of my reservation bc I never received a confirmation email. It was impossible to get in contact with the restaurant for days, nonetheless I was charged 200€ for not showing up to the reservation. Cool space, great drinks and service. The whole "everything is not what it seems" theme is WAY overdone and comes across gimmicky and misleading. The drinks were straightforward as was ALL of the food. Their signature "roasted chicken" appetizer (essentially dried chicken with ricotta and avocado foams) was tasteless unfortunately. The low temp egg yolk w artichoke, parmesan, and truffle was delicious but not sure where the grand mystery was - and the mushroom risotto was exactly that - so again, while very good, there was no surprise creativity in the experience. So that's the basic summary - most of the food and all of the drinks were great - but I really really really didn't get the theme of everything not being what it seemed - so I was ultimately disappointed by that lack of creativity (for the price and the expectations set, you should see something special at every turn). My girlfriend and I were looking forward to trying Jose Avillez’s Mini Bar. It turned out to be the worst restaurant we tried in Lisbon. This review has nothing to do with service, the service was fine. The quality of the dishes on the other hand were disgraceful. The roasted roasted chicken with avocado cream was bland. We expected the tempura avocado with kimchi to be bursting with flavour, it was pretty much a flavourless battered piece of avocado. The prawn ceviche and LT yolk with truffle, like the first two dishes were both presented very well, but were both hugely disappointing. They advertise themselves as having surprising flavours served small portions. The portions part is true and with the prices you would expect much more quality in their dishes than this. We were going to order some mains and dessert after our starters, but it was a no brainer to leave when we finished them. This restaurant felt gimmicky, and we were so disappointed. I expect much more from a guy who is supposed to be one of the top chefs in Lisbon. Afterwards we walked up the road to Oficio, a much better restaurant with creative dishes and the best dessert in the city, their cheese tart. A much better experience here with reasonable prices. Not safe for anyone with allergies. We told our server before ordering, but my fiance was served peanuts without any apology. Luckily he didn't eat them! Even though they were just garnish, they didn't bring him a replacement without the peanuts, so he missed out on some of the tasting menu. If I could give 6 stars I would... We had an exceptional night at Mini Bar. Already entering is an experience as you walk through 2 other restaurants before entering through a secret doorway. The staff was nothing but lovely and attentive, the food was simply amazing with every new course being a surprise and an experience to eat. They even are super flexible with the menu letting you switch out courses. The cocktails we had as apperitifs were also incredibly tasty. To top it all off, they surprised us with a glass of champagne because they saw from the booking that it was my birthday. How nice is that?? In short - will not return or recommend to anyone I know. The good parts: the place has a very sophisticated/sexy vibes, the cocktails were pretty good, service was professional and kind, they even allowed us change some of the dishes in the tasting menu. Unfortunately the most important part of the meal which is the food was very mediocre and pretentious, it feels like most of the effort was given to the looks rather than the taste. If I could I'd rate them an 11, one for every course we had. I don't know enough superlatives to adequately describe Minibar Teatro. The Tuna Cone was my fave, closely followed by the Apple Margarita (not a drink). The Ginginha was great, the wine was perfect, and the service was top notch. When we were done I wanted to start all over, not because I was hungry but because my mouth was so happy. It's a short walk from our hotel (Brown's), which made getting there super easy. Good fun night out with a group of friends having snacks and cocktails. All the food was good and we tried a lot of the menu. For us the place was let down by the really rude waitress. We asked to order some dishes then order more as we wanted (not that unusual for tapas style eating when you don't know the portion size?) but this seemed to really annoy her and she was not welcoming at all, just trying to push the big dishes on us (there are only 2) instead of small bites which is what we wanted. Wonderful food and service! I would go again, the food was excellent quality and preparation. My fav was the been mustard cone and the tuna (tasted fatty). We had one €55 and one €45 menu, it's great that you can order one of each! A place that seems to try too hard on all fronts -- is the food good? it's solid but will not leave you feeling "wow"ed as you might expect from Avillez' restaurants and comparable places. It's not nearly as imaginative as it claims to be and the moments are more dressed up tapas on fancy plating. Are the drinks good? Yes -- however, expect it to be more adapted towards sweeter palettes. What about the service? A hit or miss depending on who you get as your server. Explanations could be made better (I'm still not quite sure if the epic menu included off menu items even though we asked 2 or 3 times in different ways) and certain staff were often impatient. The epic menu -- described as a culinary adventure in tastes and textures -- proved to be sorely disappointing with the most imaginative being the Ferraro rocher (flavors and texture could have been better balanced) and the best executed the slow-cooked egg with truffles and Parmesan. Both desserts were good (a lime yuzu (!!!) mousse bomb and passion fruit marshmallow with white chocolate peanut butter) but skewed on the acidic / citrusy front. For the price and what mini bar touts itself to be, would have expected better in terms of food and service. O menu épico - descrito como uma aventura culinária em sabores e texturas - revelou-se extremamente decepcionante, sendo o mais imaginativo o Ferraro rocher (sabores e textura poderiam ter sido mais equilibrados) e o mais bem executado o ovo cozido lentamente com trufas e parmesão. Ambas as sobremesas eram boas (uma bomba de mousse de limão yuzu (!!!) e marshmallow de maracujá com manteiga de amendoim com chocolate branco), mas distorcidas na frente ácida / cítrica. Pelo preço e pelo que o mini-bar afirma ser, seria de esperar melhor em termos de comida e serviço.

There is a reason why this is one of the top restaurants in all of Portugal. The food is incredible, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is upscale but casual. I won't ruin the surprises they roll out on the menu, but they are gastronomic oddities that delight the pallet. Get the tasting menu and let the chefs do their best. Definitely one of the tastiest restaurant in my life ! We tried our chance in the evening after being refused in the afternoon over the phone. Due to one cancellation, we managed to get a table in this very particular retro atmosphere ! We followed the waiter's advice : one Now On Menu + one Epic Menu (surprise menu). Everything was excellent and the staff was really good, as usual in those awarded/stared restaurants. Final bill...110 euros only with 3 drinks. Brilliant restaurant, the tasting menu is a must! Also, they knock up a fine old fashioned, so don't miss out. We found the best location was to be sat at the bar, however others may prefer a more intimate setting of a table. The staff were beyond friendly and full of charisma.
