  This is a place we visit every time we go to Luz without fail, it's reserved as one of our 'fancier' restaurants on visits but is well worth the price! The food is always incredibly tasty and the servers/owner are always very attentive and wonderfully professional in their approach to service. I'd recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat as you wouldn't be disappointed!   I had dinner there with friends this weekend. I had the bunny chow and Malva pudding. The lamb meat was excellent quality. The curry was wonderfully flavorful. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient without making you feel rushed and they never seemed flustered regardless of the amount of tables they were serving during the dinner rush. I’m still shocked to have had such an amazing South African experience outside of South Africa.   Wow. We had previously eaten at the restaurant ( well over a decade ago ) and wanted someplace special for our anniversary. We were able to reserve a table on the day - and had the best experience at a restaurant in a long time. The menu is very good with ample options to choose from. The staff is absolutely amazing. Awesome system and every one works well together with the others. Food was fantastic and I especially loved the home made fruit chutney.   Just had our 10th wedding anniversary dinner here. All the staff so friendly and helpful. Our son loved the meatballs. The food was delicious.   Love this restaurant, I've been here before on previous holidays. And was excited to bring my fiancé to try it, so we came for his birthday. We weren't staying in the area, we drove from Lagoa to come and it was worth the drive. The food is incredibly tasty, so much flavour! And the staff are professional and very welcoming. When I told them why we were visiting they brought out a little slice of cake and sang happy birthday which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend the Patesca (if you like spice), Ostrich Capacious, Bobotie, Potjiekos and the Peppermint dessert! If you're not staying here and driving, it's much easier to park at the beach front lot at the bottom of Rua da Varzea and enjoy a beach front walk then head up the hill..   Steaks were perfect, peppercorn sauce out of the top drawer (but be careful if you don't like spicy - it was very peppery, as it should be, and I loved it!). The pumpkin(?) was delicious and sweet and cinnamony. My only criticism was the creamed spinach - it wasn't bad, but compared to the rest of the meal it felt like a let down. Dom Pedro and peppermint tart were also really good, but by the time we'd finished dessert I felt like I had sugar overload. Why didn't you just leave it, you say? Because it was just too good to stop! Service was excellent.   Lekker restaurant spot in Luz. True SA flavours and service. Menu decisions were a bit tough, with some great SA favourites. We enjoyed piri-piri chicken livers, a great bunny chow that was a bit like Durbs on a plate, served with some fab atchar and a bottle of tasty sweet chutney. The Rib-eye steak with baked potato and sour cream was outstanding! A beautiful bottle of SA red, and the fine detail of salt & pepper on the table.   I never expected to find a South African restaurant in a small little beach town in Portugal. Absolutely amazing food, great atmosphere and the super friendly service. It was such a treat to taste South African dishes and hear and speak Afrikaans again.   Food was nice. The Steak was nice but I wasn’t fond of the sauce, Fishermans platter was nice but I would’ve preferred a bigger portion. Service was the best service I have ever had, and atmosphere was great. Overall great place, would recommend. Edit: Went again, got calamari which was beautiful, nice crispy breading with tender meat, and as for my main, LOVELY, I recommend the steak. The pudding was sooo good, it was called the Karoo Pudding, it was very good, similar to a sticky toffee pudding, but better, come here if you want the best restaurant in Portugal.   This place is absolutely amazing, we can't rate it highly enough. The service is top class - it's a busy restaurant but our food came promptly and there was never too much of a wait. Our meals were excellent - the menu is really interesting and everything was cooked to perfection. The lamb stew is AWESOME.   What a fantastic evening we had at The Dolphin. We were received so warmly by the staff. The staff thought along with us in the choice of dish and were served GREAT by everyone throughout the evening! The food tasted delicious, and just like the hospitality it gets an absolute 10.   A bit of plastic found in food. They told me happens all the time due to the packaging they use and that it wasn't going to kill me. It was my 3 year old who was eating the food! They apologised but no attempt was made to rectify the mistake. It would have been nice if they offered to take the price of the dish off the bill. Such a shame because the rest of the meal was nice.   We were a party of 5 and arrived at 18:30, without a reservation. We were told that we could be seated, but had to vacate by 20:00 to accommodate a later reservation. We agreed and had a delicious meal. The feel was like a 5 star restaurant, and set a high expectation. The disconnect was the service and presentation. The 5 star experience quickly wained with a wine opening tutorial to a new server, which was severely uncomfortable, plates delivered 10 minutes apart by one server, and asking twice for the check. I write this with the hope that this will improve as the food is 5 star caliber, but the experience was low end. If improved, this would be a wonderful dining experience.   WOW!!! 5 STAR food and service. We did not have a reservation. It was busy but for 2 people we got lucky. Swordfish cooked to perfection with amazing sauted pumpkin with orange and cinnamon glaze, roasted potatoes and cream spinach (which was so tasty). The New Zealand muscles are a must. Outrageously delicious. Fried calamari with wasabi sauce was just perfect. And the best was the desert, called Karoo Pudding. Hard to explain. Just get one. The service was excellent.   What a lovely evening we had at The Dolphin... and we are sure to return soon. We went all out with shots, a good bottle of red, three tasty dishes each, and loads of fun. The staff was absolutely great, all of them. From drinks in the bar to the professional service with a smile (I'm sure there were smiles underneath the masks), it was super. All three of us had very different dishes and we had different experiences. Not everything from the kitchen had the same standard as the service and the drinks. But in saying that... I think we all ate everything until the very last bite and that should tell you enough. I highly recommend The Dolphin to anyone...   We loved this place so much we went twice in 3 days. Sometimes, when I go back to a restaurant, I get disappointed as it’s not as good as the first time: not here. This place was consistently excellent. I had the beef sosaties both times, my boyfriend had the steak and sosaties. The meat was perfectly cooked, the wine delicious, whatever they’re marinating the sosaties in addictive, and the service was super friendly. 100% recommend if you’re in the area and want to eat excellent meat.   We had two amazing dinners here. The boboetie and the potjie were absolutely amazing. We had to come back again during our stay to have the kudu steak. It was the best steak I ever had (and I'm South African). The staff and owners were really friendly and the whole evening went perfectly. I can also highly recommend the karoo pudding.   Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed our food last night. From the starters to the Ostrich Trinchado, the Beef Espatada, Carpet Bagger and the Kudu Steak.   What an experience.. This is high class dining. Service was very fast and even let us taste the wine and she re filled our glasses. Housewine red is very tasty by the way. Did a 3 course meal and the food was absolutely great. However for Portugese prices it isn't the cheapest. We paid €75 for two including a 3 course and a bottle of wine and water.   Great food and service at this restaurant. Not as cheap as some of the others in Praia da Luz. But its definetly worth it. The food is quality, and is delicious.
