  Absolutely the best kept little secret in paul do mar. A lovely and friendly spot , beautiful fresh and delicious food, cooked with love . The owners are the nicest people that helped make our stay In paul do mar even sweeter. Will miss the food and homely atmosphere as much as the beautiful island.   Below Average! Waiter was not really welcoming us, forgot our starters although we’ve been the only guests in the restaurant. Main dishes nothing really special. So called Buddha Bowle is just some rice with grilled vegetables and mayonnaise. Picado Misto comes with salsiccia, olives and a weird brownish sauce. We cannot recommend either of those dishes.   They offer vegan dishes, which is a welcome change. The dish I chose consisted of 4 types of grilled vegetables and chickpeas + wheat kernels. Unfortunately nothing of it was seasoned. There is room for improvement. For instance, hummus (a vegan classic) goes very nicely with vegetables or you could season with the many great fresh herbs that grow on Madeira. I basically paid 15 EUR for a plate of unseasoned vegetables and some mayonnaise. The price/value in my opinion, therefore, was not adequate.   Very nice view for the sunset!! It’s nice that they have a vegan menu and the staff was very friendly. I wouldn’t go there again for dinner. But for drinks and the view for sure. It would have been great if the food had more taste like a nice dressing with the salad or some spices on the veggies or something simple that gives flavour like onions/ garlic with the grilled veggies.   After two recent visits to the Beach-Bar, I have to correct my previous statement, which was based on several visits in October/November 2022 („Unbelievable choice of good food, even of vegetarian or vegan dishes. Friendly service and nice view especially from the balcony!“): Since 2023 the menu was cut short, prices went up and quality of food is now really poor. Portions are smaller, ingredients (even shown on the pictures at the menu) are missing - Buddha-Bowl is just a combination of panfried carrots, capsicum zucchini and snowbeans, served with -what I learnt now- vegan mayonnaise. There are definitely better places to eat at Paul do Mar! Nevertheless: Service is very friendly and view from the balcony still great! Dear owner - I am just reporting my recent experience (and only after the second disappointment in a row!). I am not bullying your business at all , as I wouldn’t have any reason to do so! If you read my initial statement you will see that I shared my joy - so why not also share less enthusiastic experience?   We ate here two times and it was great! Tasty food, good prices and a lot of vegan options. Not that we are vegan, but it's a nice change from eating fries and meat/fish (and rarely vegetables or just ultra basic salads). We had the lapas, bolo de caca, risotto with chickpeas, Buddha bowl and hamburger. All were very tasty (and the fries with the hamburger were actually well-fried, compared to the soggy mess we usually saw in other Madeiran restaurants). And their Strawberry milkshake is to die for, it really took us by surprise. We expected the Macdonald's style pink slush, but got a huge glass of delicious and well-styled milkshake: not too sweet and topped with whipped cream and strawberry syrup, which made every sip a new taste experience.   Came here after the PR19 hike and wow! This is truly a hidden gem. As vegans it can be quite difficult to find a good spot, so when we found out about this place we were so happy!
