  I wish I had more time in Ponta Delgada so I could come back and eat here again. The tuna in the tile was phenomenal, as was the zucchini pasta, mackerel, and sparkling sangria with pineapple. It's a tiny little restaurant - we were in the shoulder/off season so we didn't have to wait for a table, and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy.   I LOVED eating here. These guys make delicious food, hustle and don’t mess around with nonsense. The lapas (limpets; mini mussels) were outstanding. Mousse was dynamite. Fish soup was delightful. I also just really liked the staff. Good people doing good work. Wish I could have eater there more often. My only complaint (and it’s small) was that the chairs didn’t have backs. 5 stars!   They do not do phone-reservations, if you go there half an hour before they open, you are likely to get a table but ifnyou go after 7 or smth i am afraid you will need to wait long. The food is good overall. We ordered the steak on hot stone, so the meat comes raw and you cook it yourself on the stone. They also serve the same thing cooked and be careful to not order that one if you want to do it yourself.   I went as a group of four at lunch time and we had no issues getting a table. We chose to sit outside, but the inside seemed very nice as well. Service was spectacular! Our waiter was passionate about the menu and enjoyed discussing our dishes with us and some of the history behind them.   Fantastic dinner! We randomly stopped by one evening for a quick beer and watched countless people turned away as they were completely filled for dinner. We checked out the menu and decided to make a reservation for the following night. Glad we did because they were already filled when we arrived for our reservation at opening time (6:30pm). We started with limpets (see video) and they were amazing! My husband had fish soup and grilled baby squid with potatoes and a side salad. I enjoyed the shrimp with pesto pasta.   I didn’t enjoy my food. We ordered the famous octopus cooked on roof tile dish that won an award but I barely ate it. It smelled so bad and tasted very chewy. Super fishy and tough. The fisherman’s soup was good but we asked for it in bread, the bread bowl option, and he brought out the regular bowl instead. Also the wrong bill was given to us at the end so we had to ask for the correct one. No wait at 19:00 on a week day but an hour later it was a one hour wait.   This was the absolute worst meal I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a Thai sausage from a Bangkok street vender. The sweet potato and goat cheese starter was fantastic. But the mixed sausage disgusting. The blood sausage was palatable. Whatever was next tasted like a dry fish sausage that had been digested first by a tramp. The final meat sausage was undefinable, it could have been badger, fox or panda I have absolutely no idea. I actually threw up twice. The only reason I didn't complain was because of my wife who neither agrees with confrontation nor bad reviews. Even though the Limpets she ate made her ill. Avoid at all costs.   Utterly terrible experience. It was starting to rain. There were 4 tables outside with 2 being occupied. We were traveling with 4 small children (including a baby). We asked for the 2 tables and the waiter said the restaurant was full and they couldn't seat us. We told him we could split our group. He then started yelling at us that he couldn't seat us and told us that the rain will get our food wet and that we needed to leave. He then promptly sat the people behind us in line at the same 2 tables. Our experience today was similar to others posted here in the reviews. There is obviously some discrimination occuring here.   Taberna açor is a nice and small restaurant in the centre of Ponta Delgada, close to Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião (Church of San Sebastian). The waiter we had was a very enthusiastic man who loved to explain the portugese menu. The menu was extensive and had possibilities for every type of eater. We chose the "tuna on a tile" dish and it was served in an antique roof tile. This was something else then the waiter had described us, so we were a little surprised to see the dish (see photo; on the left with seafruits and on the right without them). The tuna was a little overcooked, which was a minus for the dish. On the other hand, the sweet potato and vegetables were very tasty. Another minus I should mention was the toilet. The floor was wet and the toilet paper couldn't be distributed out of the distributor where it came from. Despite the flaws, there was a very warm and cozy atmosphere and I would defintely come back!   This place was absolutely amazing. Paul and Nuno were my waiters, and they were extremely attentive and respectful. When I timidly offered to share my table since it was so busy and so many people were getting rejected, Nuno even said that they don't need the money and that they wanted me to fully enjoy the dining experience. I got the Tapas Açor, the fish soup in the bread bowl, and the Tuna Steak that you cook yourself on a hot stone. Everything was absolutely delicious. The house wine was also great, but it's on a rotating selection so I can't vouch for all of them. Portion sizes were large.   My family of six went here for dinner. The hamburgers are delicious and the steak was also great. Flaming Cherizo was good too. Fisherman’s stew in a bread bowl was disappointing. Not much fish and not much stew. Avoid the bread bowl if you order that. The pesto pasta with shrimp was also good. The meat skewers were overcooked and dry and tough. Avoid these. The fried potato chips were good, but needed salt. Bread appetizers were ok. I would not order them again. Service was poor. No salt and pepper were available or offered. When we asked we got two small paper packets of salt for a table of six. Very disappointing. Salad was served and no dressing was offered. They finally offered dressing when we had eaten most of our salads. Finally, one of our party ordered steak and his meal was served 10 minutes after everyone else’s. I would not return here or recommend it to anyone. If I did return I’d only order the hamburger and have low expectations for service.   Our family have had mixed service (sometimes great, sometimes not-so-great) duirng our week in Sao Miguel. This was our last meal before returning home. We got there at 6:30 pm on a weeknight and got a table right away. First, the service was great. The staff was friendly and helpful in making recommendations. We ended up with the fish soup (big chunks of tender fish), bruschetta (with tasty Sao Jorge cheese on top), seafood stew (aka cataplana), and grilled squid (also very tender). They were all good.   The food was excellent. Nice cheese and honey to start, date+bacon+cheese, fruit salad and a tomato pasta. The food was terrific, but the presentation was “home-style” and lackluster. We had the classic strip-loin on a hot plate for our main. The meat was quite good, but ultimately it was a bit cumbersome to do it all myself. It’s a cool concept but I felt a bit of pressure to cook my steak correctly. The front of house seemed a bit abrupt and disorganized. One gentlemen that served each plate gave a description and made the meal really enticing, but the other staff didn’t have the same approach.   Lots of local food specialities that they seem to do well with all. Great wine selection and some local (Sao Miguel) bottled microbrews (in addition to the normal drafts). I personally loved the fish stew in the bread bowl, but it's a lot of food and you might want to go with a lighter soup/dish if you're really eating it as an appetizer and not the entire meal. You MUST get reservations at night in the high season, but lunch hours are less problematic. Check the hours, though, they don't do lunch every day. We got a mixed enchidos and cheese plate which was huge. And some squid, livers, and meat. All the portions were big. The food was cooked perfectly. The ingredients were flavoursome and fresh.   The food was good the tapas are a good portion, and the price was quite reasonable. Would absolutely go again. Room for improvement... some items were not available so they substituted with out clarifying with us and tried to pass it off as the normal dish but the substitutions made a big difference especially when you were looking forward to a particular item. Could also be that English translation wasn't dead on...however google translate has improved quite a bit in the past few years. Another thing i believe would improve in all restaurants around here is a few lessons in service ettiqute like how to welcome people and how to non chalantly walk by to check service needs and it is standard to come by and ask how food is. Also we need to constantly read reviews and look to improve instead of the attitude of aw stupid tourists. There are many English videos on youtube that we can learn from on what's expected in the service industry.   I found this restaurant through the Brandt guide. Soooooo good! The staff were great and spoke good English. Atmosphere is old world quaint and clean- we sat amongst the wine.   Great food at unbelievable prices. I ordered the chicken soup (€1,50), Santa Maria steak (€10) and mineral water. The steak experience was great. You cook it to your liking on a hot plate with oil and seasoning. Way too much steak for one person and I came out smelling like a kebab shop, but highly recommended!   We spent 13 days in San Miguel and went to this restaurant twice. The food was incredible. We had Elizario (sp?) waiting our table and he was a class act. There was a four cheese plate and a 4 sausage plate. WE also had both a fish and meet dish where they brought out a hot stone and cooked them on the table. Also there was a single app that had fava beans, chicken livers and I can't remeber the other two but an excellent dish.   Nice and relaxed place with plenty "tapas / petiscos". If possible, consider to make reservation because, otherwise, you might not have available table. As the restaurant I in a small street, without parking it is advisable to park in the avenue, next to the sea. Personaly, I love "Lapas" and they did it very well. Azores wine is available but, the Azorean beer "Especial" you should ask for bottles. If you choose "Imperial"... It is at your risk :-) The personal is very friendly and available.   Great evening for a group of 6 with lots of pluses and only a few mistakes. Restaurant is two stories, we sat in the more intimate upstairs salon. Tom freely a bit crowded but still manageable. Started with a several appetizers, cheese plate was wonderful, sausage plate was good but not great. Fava beans and chorizo was also very good. Best of all was the limpets, infused with a garlic flavor that complimented these tasty mollusks. Fish stew in a bread bowl was rich and creamy. Less successful was the 'stone cooked' fish dinners. We ordered two different types of fish which were brought to the table raw. First problem... they didn't bring the hot stone to use to cook the fish until we asked almost 10 minutes later. Second problem was that one fish was over 4" thick and never cooked through properly, even after they brought a second stone. The wine and sangria was very good and inexpensive, as was the entire meal. All considered, a lovely night out with just a few glitches. Primeiro problema... eles não trouxeram a pedra quente para cozinhar o peixe até que pedimos quase 10 minutos depois. O segundo problema foi que um peixe tinha mais de 10 cm de espessura e nunca foi cozido adequadamente, mesmo depois de trazer uma segunda pedra. O vinho e a sangria eram muito bons e baratos, assim como toda a refeição. Considerando tudo isso, uma noite adorável com apenas algumas falhas.

We asked our server to suggest mixed tapas for the whole table. We all thought it was too much food. All well prepared. I thought much of the food nice (and local), but not stellar.   This is a very nice Tapas type restaurant. We ordered the "four cheese" platter, pork bites, the beef sandwich, one flamable sausage, one tuna pate. The pork bite was the winner among all, and I have to confess, 3-4 meal is more than enough for two person! The cheese platter is very interesting and combination of that with their local white wine from Pico island was amazing. Don't forget that the cheese platters include other goodies such as jam, butter, honey, etc ;-) you definitely wanna try it. Last but not the least, the place is very cozy and is not designed in a fancy way (which why we like it very much). Anyhow, hope you enjoy your time there.
