Nice authentic fishing village. We stayed just one night in Tavira and I’m so glad we drove here instead of walking to a tourist restaurant in the old town.   A restaurant straight at the lagoon of Tavira! I ordered the mixed sea plate for 1 person, but it was enough for 2ppl! The fish was fresh and perfectly grilled! I love octopus and had so many delicious meals all over Portugal, except here. And unfortunately it was not a just me. My friends and table neighbors shared the same sentiment.   A must place to visit if in Santa Lucia. The Caril (curried) Octopus was superb. The samosa starters were a little disappointing but still good. The Octopus from the oven with almonds, apricot, garlic and sweet potatoes was fantastic - the octopus was so tender. The service was sporadic and we didn't seem to get the same waitress twice?? bit we were in no rush so didn't bother us. The bill, for 2 people came to €68 for starters, main course, Jarro of wine, 2 Keneca's and coffee.   THE place to be if you like octopus! It’s fresh, service is good and I never been desapointed by any dish there. Better to book in advance. The owner is a lady who’s very friendly, she speak English, French and of course Portuguese. They have a Michelin recommendation and prices are reasonable!   Amazing restaurant focused on octopus dishes. In my opinion this is by far the best seafood restaurant from this region. The staff is friendly and agile, the food is amazingly good and the traditional Portuguese cousine vibe is still present (the owner greets you personally on arrival).   Very disappointing experience. We've been coming here for about 8 years now and have always been enjoying the food and atmosphere in the restaurant. The last time we were here was a big disappointment for both food quality and service. The starters were ok, decent quality of the polvo salad and tasty polvo ceviche. For the mains, the quality was no where near acceptable. Both the grilled octopus and octopus a Lagareiro were so dry it felt like they were left in the oven since the day before. The grilled Loulas and chocos were dry and had a lot of burnt spots. The only acceptable dish we had was the Arroz de polvo. On top of the food, also the service is of pretty poor quality. Waitresses are not interested at all and not motivated. Maybe focus a bit more on the experience and quality for the people actually dining with you instead of trying to fill every table 3 times in one shift. They assured me my baby would be fine as long that there was nothing under the table for the baby to kick on to. So I did. In the middle of our main course I heard a loud noise and my 14 month old baby was crying on the floor as she hit her head. Several waiters saw this happen and did nothing. The looked and continued their day. It wasn’t until I stood up and asked for the bill and said that I thought it was very strange that no one came to check on us. Lastly, very disappointing that the owner wasn’t even woman enough to come talk to us after your employees explained the situation. I was not looking for a refund or discount. We were served by several waiters/waitresses over the course of the meal with varied results. A real language struggle at times despite the restaurant advertising with signage at the front that English is spoken. Appreciate you shouldn't go to another country expecting everyone to speak your language, but when you advertise that you can.... Not one smile during our whole stay. They're not hungry, people will come eat there anyway.   We had a very late lunch the day we visited so we ordered the squid to share but then couldn't resist dessert! Service was very friendly and efficient and they were patient and helpful whilst we practiced our Portuguese to order. The squid was well cooked, the chips were amazing but we were a tad disappointed that the salad that was meant to come with it wasn't provided. We had the mango mousse and the caramel mousse for dessert and they were delicious. This stop was also my favourite red wine sangria I had anywhere in The Algarve; be warned though, a litre is the smallest option! I'd recommend a table inside looking out, the atmosphere is a bit nicer as you're not immediately next to the road but as the folding doors open fully it means you're basically outside anyway. We loved that the bill came in a little sardine tin, it was a nice touch.   Very well done restaurant in this small coastal town. Great scenic setting on the beach with the fishing boats strewn across the shore. Then, inside, fresh seafood perfectly prepared in creative recipes. Specializing in octopus, but a good variety of dishes are available. Very good service by staff who are proud off their work!   Incredible! We had 3 different dishes: Grilled Octopus, Baked Octopus with Sweet Potato (this was the best), Octopus Moqueca. All AMAZING Service was great! They are a bit slow, but amazingly friendly!!! There will be long lines (30mins) if you don't schedule ahead. Last, it's in front of the sea, which makes this even better overall.   I learned something new today. I really like grilled octopus! The taste was fresh, of the sea, slightly chewy, kissed with charcoal smoke, and good in a fish-like way. The vegetables and potatoes sides were a nice contrast to the octopus. The potatoes seem to have been boiled in a saltwater, yielding, a creamy, unctuous interior. Lisa had the grilled tuna, sweet potato and a tomato, garlic, onion, and ginger compote. The tuna was grilled to perfection, and the sweet potato with soft, sweet and was an absolutely wonderful accompaniment to the tuna. The surprise on the plate was the compote, which worked extremely well with the tuna. I can envision making it at our house in the future. Service was prompt and friendly. We sat outside and enjoyed the view of the boats in the Ria Formosa. It was on the pricey side, but totally worth it! It’s hard to like what you don’t know!   Amazing food but very poor service! The food is really delicious but the service for Portugal standards is really unbelievable. We had reservation, but were waiting so long time for receiving starters , drinks and menu . As well for food it took very long time to get prepared, even I understood they were super full. So in case you go there for lunch or dinner get ready to wait a bit. As well once you ask for additional water or salt it will take a while. Otherwise food is very tasty!   We stopped by 10 min before they open. Figured they will offer to sit down and offer whine while they are finishing up their set up. The person sitting there seemed to be the husband of the person in charge and told us to "go sit on the bench across the street and make a wish".   Wow wow wow. Did I say wow?!?! Polvo (Pulpo) is one of my all-time favorite foods so when our hotel recommended we go there, we were in! And we were lucky enough to get a table outside right before they filled up and couldn’t seat anyone else for lunch — translation: if you want to go, make a reservation. This octopus was simple and yet insane. As usual on this trip, I wan’t hungry and didn’t think I’d eat ceviche and my entire plate of polvo but it was too good to not eat every drop of food on my plate. This is a very busy & famous restaurant and you definitely need to make a reservation. We initially didn't get a table but we left our number and then they arranged a table for us. In the starters we directly jumped into octopus samosa, octopus crocket and something like octopus bitterballen. Everything was perfect! Octopus samosa is a must try. We tried here a local's favourite Breaded octopus with beans rice, grilled octopus and Baclhau à Bras. We ended with Algarve's 3 delight's dessert.   Exceptionally bad. Waited half an hour just for the couvert and what goes on next is pretty sly… the chap brings out the bits n pieces for the couvert and is actually presenting other items that you think are part of the couvert but are actually charged in addition to. Doing this without explaining what he’s doing and that it is an addition! When we asked politely where the couvert was especially since the table behind had come in 15 minutes after us and we’re already eating their starters, the waiters were touchy and unapologetic. The atmosphere was very strange. Lots of waiters doing not much but only one taking orders. Quite a few people complained and one table just got up and walked out.   Horrible. Not a single vegetarian option, not even fries. I had to ask for fries off the menu as they dont have it as an option on the menu. When they arrived they were rock solid and lukewarm. We were pushed to the back of the line becuase we dont speak Portuguese even though there is a sign on the wall saying "we speak Spanish, french and English" our food was served much later than people who had arrived 15+ minutes after us and had ordered the same thing.   This is a tricky one to review.... Always crowded.... Always a queue to get in....only to find that when you finally get a table, it's all a bit underwhelming. Are your expectations too high or is it just the food is only OK after all? Had the Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato which were OK, but lacked taste and flair. I followed it with grilled octopus, which was tough and served with scorching hot potatoes. In contrast the roast octopus was very tender and delicious and a dish we'd go back for. The local white wine is very nice, although they have a variety of many others. Grilled octopus, spaguetti octopus are our favourites. Although it is one of the most exoensive in the area, you will pay no more than 25€ wine included. We tecommen coming early as it doesnt accept reservations and you have to wait 20-30min which you can do pn a bench by the seafront. Highly recommendable restaurant!   Worst place to go. The service was crappie. Makes Portugal look bad . When we arrived and got to the table the owner came and was very rude. No greetings no nothing. She went straight to ask what we wanted by saying " what do you want?. We've been to many restaurants in Portugal and never had bad service like this place. I don't think the owner knows about customer service. They don't know how to make sangria and they brag that they have the original recipe. We are from Spain and know what a sangria tastes like and how is made. Don't know how they are still in business. Never again And don't reccomend it to anybody. Worse place ever. Never again. I found out that the restaurant was sold and that is why the quality changed. From what I understand is that the previous owners were amazing and so the restaurant. Almost everything here is octopus. The place is unpretentious but was nevertheless packed and had a nice ambience and decor inside even though we dined al fresco (on the way to Praia do Barril).
