  A very nice anf cozy restaurant with super sweet staff. The two ladies who were making the food and serve it at the tables were super friendly and nice. The food was tasty and we really enjoyed it. The starter with shrimps made in garlic butter together with the garlic bread was my absolute favorite. The scabbard fish had a little bit of fishy taste and the Espetada was a bit chewy but overall a good experience. The fries were really good though and the salad was fresh.   The moment we stepped inside we felt the hospitality so 5 stars for that. Food was good, we enjoyed the grilled Limpets paired with bread very much. For mains we tried the codfish and espetada. The fish was a little too salty for my taste and the the espetada was quite tough for my liking. Their homemade Passionfruit juice was however wonderful and refreshing. At the end we were given shots of Madeira wine which was a lovely treat after a good meal. There‘s enough parking space when we went there for lunch on a weekday, and the toilets were clean. Food portion is also good and satisfying. Overall I would recommend this place if you want a decent meal after hiking.   After a great Levada walk this restaurant is a must!! To start we had the Limpets follow by traditional espetada it was delicious and fresh. For dessert we had the local Poncha 😜 it was made on the moment and probably the best we tried in the island!! We can't wait to be back.   Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Madeira. The staff is really nice and welcoming and made sure we had everything we wanted. The food was delicious, the prices are good, especially for what you get. The owner even brought a Madeiran alcoholic drink and fruit before we left.   Came down from Ruivo and pulled in at Marcel's; quirky restaurant with a great host and nice food. Scabbard fish with fruit was good but the fries it came with were pale and underdone, which was weird because the fried sweet potato was Amazing 🤩 so crispy. My friends had vegetarian pastas... our search for good vege food outside Fanal sadly continues as it was more like a vege stir fry with a cream sauce on it, would recommend they switch to a mushroom and garlic pasta and nail it down for the vegetarians.   Nice little place near Santana. Had two mains - Beef with mushroom and cod. The beef was exquisite, specially the gravy. I think the cod was grilled, but it was fresh, not the best I had but decent nonetheless. The owner is a friendly chap too.   Worst experience so far in Madeira - we waited for approx. 20 min. at the table for someone to bring at least the menu - although I went to the bar and asked for it, they just said “wait and we’ ll come to your table” - no one did. Meantime the waitress passed several times along our table - they didn’t even clean the table from past visitors - photo attached. In the end we just went to the bar and ordered something to drink and paid directly there (probably it would have take them another 20 min. to bring it) - and left without ordering the food - by the way we sat there for another 25 min. while having our drinks and they didn’t even clean the table. Perhaps the food is good and maybe they are overwhelmed but we also went to other restaurants in Madeira and it was just fine - so for sure we’ll avoid Marcel’s bistro in the future.   Cute place. The owner speaks English. I ordered prawns with polenta,sweet potatoes and salad . It was pretty good. The vegetable soup was not bad. For dessert I got fruit salad with vanilla Icecream. The waiter let us bring our own wine that we got earlier from our wine testing tour. He even got us ice bucket and two glasses.   Maybe we just got unlucky with our picks, they just weren’t delicious to be honest. We ordered two appetizers (shrimp, mussel) and a main (pork chef special) to share, but the latter was so bad that I ate 1 bite and decided to leave my half, my boyfriend also did not finish his. It ended up being my least favorite for our whole trip of the island. If you go here, ask for a thorough description of the dish, because many ingredients are not mentioned on the menu, e.g. grilled mussels come under a thick sauce of tomatoes, and the shrimp for some reason came sprinkled with what I guess was balsamic vinegar (?). Anyhow, didn’t work for us sadly. 2 stars because despite odd ingredients, the starters were edible and the service okay (mention: the owner asked us if the food was good, but when I politely said sorry I was not impressed, he got extremely defensive and tried to prove that his food was good?! Uhm, sir, I just had it and like I said, no it wasn’t. Weird.) On the plus side there is a cute parrot at the entrance.   Wonderful Restaurant, what a treat! We had lunch on Marcel's beautiful terrace surrounded by blooming petunias. The weather was not great for June but the warm welcome and the quality of the food soon cheered us up. Starters and mains courses, everything was delicious and the red wine that Marcel recommended to us was excellent. Unfortunately we could not stay longer but we really enjoyed the complimentary glass of medium sweet Madeira wine before leaving and facing the chilly wind and rain again. We asked for Bolo do Caco with garlic. They were out and so we contributed on. To our surprise, they went to the local women and got more bread for us and one other party! The food was delicious.   Exceptional service and quality food. I was on a tour of the west of Madeira and we really wanted to eat fish for lunch. But not fillet, an actual whole fish. It was really hard to find. Our tour guide asked like multiple restaurants before we stumbled on this little gem of a place. At first he said he didn't have it, but after checking his freezer, he did have some.
