  Large, busy, popular traditional Portuguese tourist restaurant. Situated on the main road into Silves centre. Basic menu of barbecued fish or meat served with salad, rice and chips. Actually the chips are pretty good and the chicken piri piri had good flavour/heat. Service a little indifferent and erratic but the staff are under pressure here at lunch; restaurant always at capacity. No dessert options. Inexpensive, great value.   Been eating here regularly over the past 3 years and have been a loyal customer. Today we had a table booked for 12:00 and arrived on time. When we arrived we were told just wait a few minutes. After 20 minutes it became apparent there were no free tables. Other people arrived after us and were seated. These were local people that the waiters knew. The owner is a very nice man and I am sure this wouldn’t have happened if he was there, but after being treated this way we will not be returning. Why allow people to reserve tables days in advance, and then give those tables away to other customers? Awful service and the main waiter (bald guy with earring) couldn’t care less!   Cold chilly night, no atmosphere and outrageously non existent service from chaotic servers. Place was rammed, almost sat on top of each other. More a canteen than a restaurant. lovely tasty chicken, but if your looking for more than 2 or 3 mouthfulls per person order 3 portions each. Tiny chicken comes with a few tasty fries and disgusting precooked white rice. Reasonably quality salad was included also. Bread and olives stale uninteresting and 2 other tables around us commenting on the ridiculous sized portions. Complained on the way out and staff member was rude and unaplogetic. Really cheap so maybe price point dictates this, but it was a complete mess and I certainly would not return.   Excellent restaurant, with the food cooked on the BBQ visited here twice last week while staying in Silves. Once for the piri piri chicken at 11€ for the whole menu, good value for money and good chicken. Second we both had Dourda (as sardines not yet in season) it was cooked to perfection 12.50€ for the menu. Yes the restaurant is busy but we never had to wait long for a table. Will come back when next in Silves and highly recommend here.   Update: My most recent dining experience here & the food is back to 5 stars but the service spotty-- a server didn't even greet us for the first 20 minutes we were there the last time, but my most recent visit & all was great. But wonderful moist chicken again is the good news! And the Piri-Piri sauce is delicious! But not 🔥enough. Mild to me. My only complaint would be that the bread was very dry, and tasted stale, (they said it was due to the very hot weather we were having almost 100⁰F. ) And the olives they brought to the table seemed like they weren't brined long enough, they were very crunchy hard and very bitter. I do not know if they make them themselves or if they purchase them -- and this is the way they are to be eaten, but we at the table did not care for them. Beware: Dessert of simple fruit is included, but they will rattle-off more interesting things, but those cost extra! ************ First Review: The holy grail of Piri Piri has been found. Best I've had in Portugal so far, and the hunt continues. Hot Smokey chickens right off the grill, very mild Piri-piri sauce, so ask for extra if like me, you like it hot 🥵 & cold canecas 🍺 of beer.   Absolutely fantastic spot for lunch after wandering around Silves Market. Luckily we went early and didn't have to wait for a table but there was often a queue. The menu is simple so you get served your food very quickly. We all opted for the chicken, spicy and plain. The spicy oil marinade was very flavoursome with garlic and chilli, fantastic for dipping your fries (afterwards we saw a customer ask for more which arrived in a sauce bottle). Even the plain chicken was well seasoned and not lacking in flavour. €11 per person is an absolute bargain for lovely grilled chicken and multiple courses.   Amazing place where to eat in Silves. They only cook specific dishes (chicken, pork and sardines) on the grill, serving them with fried potatoes and fresh salads.   RESTAURANT SCAM ALERT!!! Waitress didn’t give us the menu. We were 4 people (1 child) and got one plate of cut up chicken (3 drumsticks, one breast and one thigh and 3 wings), a plate of non spicy half chicken. 1 plate of fries and two salad plates - starters (olives bread and cheese). At the end the waitress gave us a plate of oranges. So here’s the deal. We ask her for the bill and she comes back and says 44 Euro. SAY WHAT???!!! So I went up to the counter and asked for the bill. When the waitress saw me she started speaking in Portuguese to her colleague at the till and was acting very guilty. I asked to see the menu and saw that with our order we wouldn’t have even reached that bill. To make matters worse the person paying next to us at the till was paying 10 Euro for 2 chickens. At the end the total receipt bill she printer was 45 euro for things we didn’t even have!! Terrible experience indeed. Manager didn’t do anything either about this as they all tried to cover for the waitress. Lesson here do not trust the staff there as they try to take advantage of the tourists - and most of these reviews are quite possibly questionable because that chicken was DRY. No final, a fatura total do recibo da impressora era de 45 euros para coisas que nem tínhamos! Experiência terrível, de fato. O gerente também não fez nada a respeito, pois todos tentaram cobrir a garçonete. A lição aqui não confia nos funcionários de lá, pois eles tentam tirar vantagem dos turistas - e a maioria dessas avaliações é possivelmente questionável porque aquele frango estava SECO.

  The most affordable local food and great staff can be found in this restaurant! The chicken piri piri and dorade (both from bbq) were delicious! We only spent about €20 for 1 wine, 1 beer, 1 coffee, 1 tea, the dorade and chicken piri piri with fries or potatoes. Also… quite some side dishes were included! And the salad was super fresh and has a good taste. Finished off with some fresh fruit. Wow! If you are nearby, you should try this place! Our local kayak/sup instructor recommended this place to us and it was definitely a bonus on top and at the end of our holiday. The staff was quite busy all the time, but nonetheless they remained very friendly. And I am still amazed about the productive serving system they have in the chaos they sometimes are in! Chapeau! We are happy that they treat everyone equal, whether you are a local or tourist. It was very packed at around 8/9pm, but managed to get a table within a few minutes.   We are fortunate enough to live in Silves and have visited Valdemar more times than I can remember. The service is outstanding and the food quality never alters (it is always outstanding). We have visited Valdemar at least once a month for over 20 years and never have we had a "bad experience". The food is superb and now they serve fish dishes (perfect for my piscetarian wife) it cannot be bettered. 5 stars is not enough.   This restaurant was referred by a friend in Canada who has visited this restaurant for many years while vacationing in Portugal. He said that it had the best BBQ Portuguese chicken he’s ever tasted. He was bang on. My wife and I attended the restaurant on Friday February 7, 2020, and weren’t disappointed. The restaurant is very simple but the entire meal was plentiful and delicious. We started our meal with olives and bread, followed by an amazing salad, French fries and the best Portuguese BBQ chicken I’ve ever had. I had a beer which was recommended by the waiter while my wife had a half carafe of white wine. This was followed by coffee and a mini desert of Oranges with cinnamon on top as well as Clementines and roasted almonds. This meal was exceptional value which cost €20.00 including tip. I’ll definitely be returning to this restaurant and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves BBQ Portuguese chicken. The staff were very friendly and attentive.   We were recommended this place by a lovely lady in ferragudo who said we should simply check this place out if we wanted authentic piri piri chicken. we arrived at around 9pm after a short wait time we were seated this place was packed with locals which seem promising & always a good sign. The waiter promptly took our drinks order then things seem to take a dive from there on out, after what seemed an eternity the waiter return with our drinks but never took our food order so after a half hour 45 minute wait he returned chicken or fish was the question presented to us we ordered the chicken. okay I know the place was busy but we were seated before a clp of locals and still ended up with our food arriving after the clp who were seated after us!.... overall this restaurant is average at best.   This place is insanely good & I’m a tourist. Yes it’s €16 for 2 people but more if you have beer. There’s no menu & you don’t order, they just ask fish or chicken. It’s a chicken place but the fish is outstanding & constantly changing. We’ve been 4 times in a week & one time we had 3 beers & 2 wines and it only came to €24! Total. If you think €16-€20 is too expensive then I can’t help sorry. We love it & cant wait to go back. It’s a busy, buzzy, fast and entertaining place. We love it... This place is fantastic. I would be open to getting my import lisence just to have this piri piri sauce in my house at all times.   Chicken Piri Piri at its finest! We had to wait in line to sit for about 20 minutes and than waited for another 40 minutes to get our food but it was worth it. The place is very crowded at the meal times but you can feel an authentic, Portuguese atmosphere here. Chicken, fries and salad is second to none. The service is ok but also chaotic sometimes. The only one who really knew what was going on was a black waitress and respect for her as they had to service like 100 people at once and there was only 5 service people to do it.   My partner and I just shared a huge meal which included grilled fish, chicken, fresh handcut chips, great salad and the usual bread with a world of trimmings...plus 4 bottles of beer...all for €20. Nearly fainted when they said the price. It would have been criminal not to leave a good tip! This place definitely wouldn't win any awards for appearance but it doesnt need to be pretty (and pretentious) because the simple but fantastic food speaks for itself.
