  The food was quite good, but in the bacalhão à la Casa de Tulhas it was difficult to find a piece of bacalhao, so it probably “melted”. The lamb racks and potatoes chips were good. However, we got a starter, which we didn’t order: two pieces of bread , two butter, two fish creames and olives.   I have being blessed to be able to travel and visit restaurants around the world, but this place in Sintra Portugal not only the food by the service from Nelson was unbelievable. Please if you ever in Sintra don't forget to visit Tulhas. Highly recommended.   Tiny cosy place to have a good meal. We had a short stop at this restaurant and were not disappointed. We had some lamb chops, sheep cheese with jam, vegetarian soup and some beers. All dishes were tasty, fresh, full of flavour. There are also fish options of course, but we didn't order any.   My small family of adults was looking for something local without being right in the heart of tourism. We wondered upon the Tulhas which was quaint/hip/historic all at the same time. Most notably, the menu was very accommodating to several different language-speakers. We all tried a different type of seafood and could say that the presentation and flavors were delicious. Food came out fairly quickly but then you were not rushed out. We tried the grilled cod, filet minon, and the squid and shrimps. We started with the codcakes which were also spectacular! The waiter was exceptional. He spoke Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. He was constantly joking with the guests or himself and making everyone laugh. Like a psychologist, he managed to bring the visitors closer together and it became a very pleasant atmosphere.   We had a delicious Portuguese lunch here after visiting Quinta da Regaleira. The waiter was super helpful, funny, and attentive. What’s more, he immediately came to our table after we sat down without having us wait for 10-15 min even to get a menu - unless you go out of your way to get one - like other places. After that, we had our meal on the table in less than 15 min. The bacalhau com natas (creamed cod) was delicious, as was the Iberian pork “lizards” (strips). I would have loved to try more dishes, but we were scheduled to go to Parque de Monserrate after lunch, and Sintra is quite the uphill workout. One more reason to go back! Also, the place is relatively tiny and gets packed pretty quickly, so make sure you book a table in advance (which you can do online, because this place understands it’s 2022 and that millennials have some discretionary spending budget now).   Best food we've had in Portugal! Try the clams, they were amazing. Apparently they are the oldest restaurant in town. It's just slightly away from the areas with heavy foot traffic (where all the usual tourist restaurants are).   We had such an amazing experience at Tulhas. Nelson was our server and he explained a lot about the history of the restaurant, very attentative, and was great with our little one. The food was great. We ordered clams, grilled cod, and duck rice, which were all spectacular. The rice had a nice crunch and had a side of garlic and shallot oil for even more flavor.   After seeing Pena castle and the park (best, most diverse forest we've seen in a while and being from PNW with rain forests abound, that should tell something) dirty and sweaty, we debated if we should ride straight to Lisbon and not eat in Sintra when we discovered this gem. The waiter (maybe the owner) of the place makes the entire evening pleasant and wonderful. He is funny, friendly and has lots of stories to tell you. It was a pleasure talking to him. If you are looking for traditional Portuguese food, think of this place as traditional with a twist... a healthy one :) We never had anywhere bacalhau with chickpeas and beans - excellent idea, so much so that once we got back home to Portland, we did it ourselves at home. The polpo was also very good and the wine excellent. Add to that a chocolate with zucchini cake and Port and the day is complete. Great time, excellent food, highly recommended. Thank you, senor...   We were turned off with the chaos on the main streets of Sintra and turned down this quiet street to find this lovely quaint restaurant. With their humor and perfect attendance Nelson and Michael gave us a wonderful ending to our day in Sintra. My choice of drinks was a porto sunrise. Pink port with rose petals. Yummm. My wife had a dry white wine from the wine region of Portugal. Our appetizer was warmed sheep cheese with walnuts and a side of housemade pumpkin jam that I believe was sweetened with honey; what an incredible combo on fresh bread. We also shared a simple salad. The entree we shared was a steak cooked Portuguese style with garlic and bayleaf and butter and was rare. The steak came with addictive housemade potato chips. Dessert was cafe Americanos and a rolled orange tort whose consistency reminded me of bread pudding but rolled up. I had a chocolate zuchini cake slice. This meal will be cherished by us both I guarantee. Thanks Nelson and Michael for the perfect meal.   Terrible service. The man working there today 3rd January at 4pm was extremely rude. He didnt greet us. He was shouting at other customers. It was loud and awkward. We sat down and ordered dessert. Biggest minus goes to the the bathroom which is dirty, smelly and the soap is in a water bottle with a hall in it and looks disgusting, which is disrespectful to customers.   I very much like this restaurant. We ask our tour guide to take us to a restaurant that serve authentic Portuguese dishes. We ordered five dishes from the Tapas section of the menu and everything was delicious. The portions were of good size. I never even made it to the Entree section of the menu (though I had an idea what I wanted). The wait staff was friendly. It's location is on a side street.   Nice place , good food but I have to say I was surprised with the bill, €122 euros for 4 of us (2 adults 1 teenager 1 child) for a normal meal.   What a fantastic little find in one of the narrow streets of Sintra! The interior was very cosy and inviting, filled with lots of Portuguese ceramic tiles. We got the grilled Portuguese cod, and octopus and shrimp, both of which were very good and fresh. The vegetables on the side were cooked well but a little bland. The waiter (Carlos) was friendly, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable regarding all the different wines and liqueurs they had. Overall it was a great way to end our day trip to Sintra.   - They put bread + cheese and other spreads on the table and I thought they were complimentary. They're NOT, and quite pricey. I know this a common practice but I do not approve. They were really good, but because of this I won't put 5 stars + Dishes look inconspicuous but they're delicious. Would recommend the Porco a la regional. + Quick service, and the waiters were very nice (though maybe a bit overwhelming) - Definetly pricey and tourist-oriented, you can spend up to 20 or 25 euros per person which is way more than average.   Bottomline upfront: this place offers great family-like Portugese dishes in a very nice Portugese looking restaurant with excellent service. My experience here was exceptional. This place feels cozy in a well cured sorta way. It feels traditional but not neglected. It offers great Portugese dishes which are served in a cordial and pleasant fashion. Service is prompt, the menu comes in multiple language and so did my waiter. These 5 stars are about my experience here and not about the fanciness or the whiteness of tablecloth.   We stopped by because of the great reviews online after walking through Sintra. Usually they are spot on but I am seriously questioning how in the world this place received positive reviews. We ordered tapas style food which took super long and tasted bad. The bread was dry and old, the cheese did not taste good at all and the olives were disgusting. We ended up oaying 32 Euros for food that tasted disgusting. The waiter was joking around but was borderline rude wirh his jokes. They have a great location but that is it.   The owner of the hotel is very friendly. He is very easy to talk to and we had some pleasant conversation. I even leaned how to cook octopus I the Portuguese way. The dishes are not the cheapest in town, but the quality is also better than a couple other ones we have visited. It's not the best we had in Portugal, but I would say not bad at all. Fortunately it was well-balanced with various sides, not unlike how one might balance a maple dip with a honey crueller and a Boston cream.
