  What a beautiful surprise to find this gem! I really recommend to arrive a bit before the opening hour so that you make sure to have a table outside, considering they don’t take reservation.   Price/quality ratio is good for the old city. Very tasty food (we took seafood tapas and deserts), very good service. Way more tasty than couple of places around we've been to.   Food was well and portions are pretty large especially the steak sandwich which is a sharing dish definitely. Good bread and olives to snack on while you wait for your food to come. Would recommend getting the cheese with smoked ham and figs it is very warm and spreadable for the toasted bread which was delicious. For dessert try the apple crumble and you won’t be disappointed. It is a menu where you check off all items you want and submit it to your waiter so it is a friendly process to anyone who is shy or introverted.   We were weary of the lineup before it opened at 12:15 but we are so glad we got in line! Within only a few minutes we were seated and the food was exceptional. The octopus was perfect, service was great. It really lived up to the hype! The portion sizes were generous for tapas (especially the octopus). Would definitely recommend!   The wait in the line was long, however, we decided to wait since the food looked delicious. We order the cuttlefish, octopus, tuna steak sandwich, chorizo bites, spare ribs, cod dumplings, and a pitcher of sangria. Mind you, this order was mainly tapas so the portions are relatively small - and we were hungrryyy so we knew we could eat most of it. Once we ordered the waiter paused and said “this is too much” and we thought it was a joke but he was dead serious. The food came a suspiciously quickly which we didn’t mind! Before I discuss the food; the presentation was absolutely stunning. Gorgeous looking food, vibrant colors, and terrific plating. The food however, was very very mid - and not of quality. The cuttle fish was like chewing gum and tasting like nothing, the octopus with aioli & tuna sandwich had little flavor, and the food was overall way too gamy in flavor. We ate a good amount of it since we were hungry but left very disappointed with the flavor. Prices are okay, atmosphere and tabling was excellent - but, if you appreciate and are looking for food that tastes good, this is not the best place.   I had a phenomenal time as Tascantiga. I was recommended this restaurant by our driver and it lived up to the hype. The portion sizes are massive, we ordered the beef sandwiches and they came out with two, we notified the server as we thought they gave us two orders but the portion size is amazing and allowed for my husband and I to enjoy our own sandwiches. All the food we ordered was incredible. Taste, texture send flavours were perfection. Customer service was amazing, all the servers and even the owner was there working the floor and everyone was very kind to us. We finished up a Europe tour and this was our overall favorite meal from all the countries we traveled. Food quality was top notch. Don't think twice, this is the restaurant you're looking for!   There were some home runs and some misses but the misses were due to our pallets so I won’t knock the restaurant.   Lovely little restaurant with amazing food. We went for lunch after visiting Pena Palace and Moorish Castle. Good service and friendly staff. It was so nice to sit out on the terrace on a nice sunny day. The food was reasonably priced and had big portions for tapas!   This quaint Tapas restaurant located in the narrow back streets of Sintra was a gem. We sat outside and looked over the city, although it’s a bit obstructed with trees, nevertheless really beautiful. The tapas were among the best we had in Portugal.   Nice local restaurant serving tapas style small dishes. Alfresco dining is available but limited tables. The price is also very reasonable considering we are up in the Sintra hills.   Lovely place to have lunch in Sintra. Very traditional and authentic Portuguese food. Not too pricey as well. About 8 Euros per tapas and 2 were enough for one person. The octopus dishes are great - we had the Seafood salad and the grilled octopus, and both were excellent. The service was very friendly as well. They also have vegan options.   Loved the food here it was worth the 10 minutes wait before they opened at 12:15. Octopus was sensational! The Garlic prawns were stunning as well. So good.   All in all the vibes were nice and glad we stopped here. My friend ordered the cheese platter which was legit. Could easily be a meal it was that much cheese. She also had the sangria which she says was good. Gluten free options were slim so I ended up ordering the prawns which were eh, and also the chickpeas with codfish and that was ok. Honestly the fries I ordered was my favorite so that's saying a lot. Oh and also my friend ordered the potato skins which were frankly potato chips. Some of the other dishes I saw folks eating did look legit but unfortunately due to my gluten limitations I couldn't partake.   By far lunch at Tascantiga was our favorite meal during our Portugal trip. When we went, the entrance was a little unclear (they had it roped off which we thought meant it was closed) but after inquiring, we were seated quickly on their beautiful outdoor patio. The food here was so good. We ordered a few of the tapas: the cod dumplings with olive puree (mostly out of curiosity), the toasted spare ribs, the candied pork cheeks, and the French fries. Everything we ate was amazing (I forgot to take photos of everything because it just looked so good and I couldn't wait). The cod dumplings were texture-wise very different, we liked them. We also had two sangrias. I'm not sure if it's just Portuguese sangria that is so good but I can't stop thinking of that sangria. It was bubbly, not too sweet, and unlike any sangria that I've had before. I'm going to try to recreate it because I loved it so much. The service was great and quick. This was the perfect place for us to recharge during our trip to Sintra. The prices were also so affordable for us. Every restaurant we went to after Tascantiga, we compared to here. I've already recommended it as a place you can't miss to all of my friends going to Portugal this year!   We loved our visit here for lunch after visiting the Sintra palaces. We arrived around 1pm and they luckily had some tables free. We sat on their beautiful shady terrace which was very pleasant and had tapas and wine. The food was delicious with quality ingredients and was reasonably priced. Highly recommend the steak sandwich.   Had high expectations which were not met. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes! We got the chorizo, fried chicken wings, ribs, cod dumplings, and fries. Chorizo was the best! Fatty and flavorful. Everything else was odd. Wings were ok, but very crumbly, didnt taste fresh. Ribs were quite tough, too salty, and didnt taste fresh either. Cod dumplings lacked taste and had a weird density.   The guy seating us was extremely rude, I was trying to talk to him and say we could split into 3 tables and he kept saying our group was too big even though we were willing to split up? Very short, there’s no point in having such an attitude for something so easily fixed. We were willing to wait our turn and split up into as many small groups as needed (there were 8 of us). I’m sure the food was good but if you treat your customers like that and then with tour groups let in huge tours in front of the line, then that’s just a tourist trap at that point. Please get someone with a better temper.   Food is good, however I think it doesn’t quite live up to the hype, as it isn’t exceptional. It you would like to have a table outside I recommend calling in advance to make a reservation as they are always really busy and you even might have to wait in line to get a table. One nice thing about the restaurant is that they are one of the few places in downtown Sintra that actually accept cards.   UPDATE: based on the response to this review and others, the owner is very passive aggressive… and can’t seem to take criticism. more of a reason to AVOID. restaurants should always strive to do better. i realized they changed their original reply to make themselves appear less passive aggressive and try to invalidate my update😂 The octopus was very oily. Once you get to the bottom half of the dish, it’s just coated in olive oil and tastes only like olive oil. The pork cheeks were tender but very gamey. A little hard to palate. The spare ribs were ok, a little flavorless. Overall, quite overrated for the price and 4.5 rating. Probably better off grabbing a quick and cheap sandwich from one of the local bakeries. The staff are friendly and amazing, but most importantly, the food is well priced, beautifully presented and tasted delicious.   When in Sintra this is the restaurant to go to. Beautiful little outside patio with a view and inside plenty of tables. The service was excellent. Very fast they were all very helpful and the food came out quickly. Smiling faces all around the food was delicious prepared perfectly and wasn’t even that expensive.   2 stars for the food and 4 for the location. We ordered the seafood salad, octopus lageiro and tuna sandwich. The octopus was chewy and oily, not sure if it’s because it was over cooked or not fresh (store bought). Same thing for seafood salad, octopus was very chewy, shrimps did not taste fresh. Tuna sandwich was average. Not sure how they got a 4.5 rating. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Edit: changed to 1 star after condescending reply (from owner?). Octopus is my favourite dish, I have ordered it all over the world including many restaurants in portugal, it should never be chewy, after a chat with the waiter he mentioned it is boiled in the morning and recooked with oil, hence it’s probably over cooked.   The tuna steak sandwich was amazing. The steak and vegetable sandwiches were noteworthy as well. The potato wedges were so good as well. Service was really quick so we caught out train which was about a 12-14 min walk through the center of town. Homemade beer was on the mark. The restaurant was cool and has a nice outdoor area.   Let's do this proper. This is the stop to schedule for after a day of visiting the sights in Sintra. The staff is warm, the food (and presentation) is on point, and the atmosphere is comfortable. You arrive and it feels like you're at your extended family cabin enjoying a meal with lived ones. Sadly we had a larger meal planned for the evening so only stopped by for a quick snack but it was well worth it and well deserved after a long day visiting the palaces nearby. The highlight was the mushroom, smoked ham, arugula, and cheese (cant remember what kind it was! @Tascantiga help me out here 😄) dish. Seriously amazing dish. You get the creaminess of the cheese, a meaty mushroom, salt from the smoked ham, and the arugula gives a nice peppery flavor. Order one for everyone at your table. Trust.   Wonderful experience. The 15-20 min wait was worth it, and to their credit, they let us know of the wait time in advance. Food was fantastic, portions were healthy from the tapas menu, the drinks were large, the environment was welcoming and the view from the window next to us was beautiful. Partner notes: as someone not native to Portugal, it was fantastic to see the Portuguese hospitality at its most charming. Traditional Portuguese food was fantastic and left me wanting more (though my stomach objected). The craft beer, a slightly bitter pale ale at a guess, was a lovely compliment to the crispy squid.   Food is average, cuttlefish was chewy and hard to bite, seemed to be a frozen ready to fry by yourself one. Aioli ink sauce has nothing to do with aioli, it’s a cheap colored mayonnaise with no taste. In the seafood salad only octopus was tasty and not over cooked, the sauce was ok, but the rest wasn’t. Shrimps were ok, but still overcooked.   Amazing restaurant, very reasonably priced that’s a little tucked away from the main tourist drag in Sintra. Outdoor seating is available and the restaurant is surprisingly very spacious inside. We walked in without a reservation close to 1pm. It’s a very inviting place with warm staff and friendly and efficient service. Bread is on da house!!!! Ordered 4 dishes to share. The chorizo was amazing and also liked the presentation (chorizo pop!). Octopus was our favorite. Chips come w a dipping sauce that also works well with the chorizo pop. We stopped here after visiting Pena castle. Definitely try the cheese with ham, it’s the right amount of melted state, ready to be spread on a crispy bread.   Really nice place in Sintra. Tapas like dishes so you will most likely find something to your liking. Kids offers (fish fingers, chicken nuggets, burger) makes it easy for a family. We had a nice caipirinha, a demi red, fries, prawns, spare ribs, charcuterie, and so on. Not fantastic, but definitely not bad either. In a place like Sintra, this is a little rare. Staff was nice and polite and genuinely seemed to care (unlike in most tourist traps where the staff couldn't be bothered). The atmosphere is nice and relaxed.   Lovelly and cost family restaurant. The food was great and the service extremely kind. Order at least 3 tapas per person for mains and do no miss desserts...simple but made with love.   Excellent food, romantic place, all details studied. Loved it! - autumn 2018 Update August 2019 - The highlight of my portuguese cuisine experience ☺️ I first ate at Tascantigua in September last year, when visiting Sintra for 1 day. Now coming back again, would have not missed eating here! 😄 And it was 100% worth it: excellent sangria, exquisite prego (steak sandwiches), refined hors d’oeuvres and sophisticated desserts.   Amazing tapas restaurant, serving tasteful , fresh and original food. The service was fast and really good. The waiters were really helpful and could speak many languages !
